Sylandra and William had dragged the hostage into one of the empty cargo bins, and chained him up against the wall, spread eagle. His feet inches above the floor, all nice and secure. Syl nodded as William went back to the bridge to handle the ship. She pulled up a small crate and settled down on it, keeping an eye on her captive. With an after thought, she kicked open the door and slid her bag, with her pistol inside, through the opening. The door, springing back on its hinges, slammed shut as the bag cleared. She still had that stiletto in her boot, and her combat training. She waited. The ship was just reestablishing contact with Glory when he grunted and rolled his head to the side. She sat there watching his eyes flicker and then open. Recognition came to him in a moment; he spit blood out and twisted against his chains. "Just tell me you're Alliance an' I'll make it quick." She studied his face; his reactions; his slightest movements. She drew the blade as she stood, facing him with a darkness in her eyes. She stepped once, just out of any possible reach, the blade swaying hypnotically in her hand, first left, then right, catching the glint of ambient light and casting it into his eyes. He winced.

"You and me both, Mike," Beth responded, laying a hand gently over his and giving it a soft squeeze. "You and me both," she repeated. "How about you stay there for a while and have a sleep. We'll move you later," Beth said, her hand still on his. "You'll be stiff and sore for a couple of days but it's just soft tissue damage so as long as you do some gentle exercise to keep it mobile without going over the top you should be well on the way to recovery within the week." She looked down at her hand on his and sighed softly. "Assuming someone else doesn't take a shot at us," she said and then looked at Mike's face, the trace of a cheeky smile on her face as she added, "or the Captain doesn't dream up another way to get us killed." She chuckled softly, and then said, with a little bit of irony in her tone, if only because all the women on the ship were spoken for to some extent or other and opportunities would be few given the current situation in the 'Verse, "You'll be up chasing the girls in no time."

First Mate

A couple of days. A timer ticking down from 48:00:00 formed in his head. Two nights and he'd have the strength to leave. At least, that's what he heard. Then there was everything else he heard. "Assuming someone else doesn't take a shot at us," Far too likely, he thought. Were they even out of the woods yet. Becker wasn't strong enough to care. Not any more. His eyes closed as he rested on the table. "or the Captain doesn't dream up another way to get us killed." His eyes widened and he glared at Beth who was too busy chuckling at her joke to notice. She wasn't even aware of the foot in her mouth. He puled his head up to follow her and raised an eyebrow. Thinking about the severity of what Dugan had led him and others in to, Becker couldn't formulate a response. "You'll be up chasing the girls in no time." Now that was funny. Not good funny, but depressingly funny as Beth was unlikely to know his past hits and misses. Funny in a 'I'm not laughing' kind of way. Funny in a, "you should go now Beth," was the nicest way he could put it. His head dropped to the table, and he hoped to be left alone so he didn't have to repeat himself. He wouldn't quite be able to play nice for their emotional doctor. At least Mike wouldn't be able to think when he was unconscious, |

Mike said: you should go now Beth Beth looked at him, puzzled, wondering what she had said to make him speak to her like that. "I'm sorry," she said, her intonation and emphasis suggesting she was anything but sorry and more than a little put out by his reaction to her attempt at levity. It was a typical of Beth that she would use a passive-aggressive response to both Mike's reaction and to the knowledge that she had overstepped the mark somehow along the way. It had left her feeling guilty about her behaviour and nervous that he might talk to the Captain and suggest that they should find someone to replace her. She didn't think they would go so far as to toss her out an airlock but she thought that they were probably not feeling all that generous just now given all that had transpired. And then there was what he might tell Sylandra and that was more terrifying than anything else she could think of. But Mike was right, if not for the reason he was thinking of; she did need to go and check on Abe and then find Sylandra. Despite her feelings of annoyance, guilt and near panic, she still had the presence of mind to check the monitors that were still attached to Mike and managed to close the door to the medbay quietly behind her. "He's got a right to feel grumpy," she reminded herself as she walked down the passage to the cabin Abe was occupying. "He got shot and all you got were a couple of bruises," she told herself. Beth was even quieter entering the cabin that Abe was in than she had been leaving the medbay; if Abe was sleeping she didn't want to disturb her. She checked the vacuum pump and the monitors to make sure that all was well, intending to speak only if Abe showed signs of being awake.

Glory - Bridge Ian took the capture and sat in the Second Seat. He looked at images of his son as Sonya maneuvered the Glory into proper docking with the Galiano. Once the ship's docked Ian stood, gave the capture back to Sonya and with the scent of jasmine wafting about his head he left the bridge with a smile on his face. "Thanks Sonya. You're the best mother a son could have." He stopped at the doorway and looked back. The room was a mess with wires every where. Reese had really done a number on them. Reese had hurt his crew. His friends. His family. Reese was family. She was like a sister to him. Although one that he had kissed .... once. So maybe she was more like a distant cousin ... a kissin cousin. But even cousins needed to be taught a lesson now and then. He had Graci, his sister, had fought a time or two. Knock down, Drag out fights, until his older brother George put a stop to it.. He shook his head, and turned back to leave again. "Sometimes I wonder if I'm really any kinda father..." The door to the bridge closed behind him. |

Sonya said: "Speakin' of which, you see a little sunny leprecahn anywhere? She'n your mechanic prolly need to get work on some of this duct tape and bailing wire repairs?" Siobhán suppressed a giggle. She was indeed already working on repairs, hidden behind a panel in a space that only someone as small as the pixie could work in comfortably. She decided to hide the fact that she was already working on making more permanent repairs and logging them properly for the time-being. The bomb was, fortunately, something of an anticlimax, even if there was a gaping hole in Glory's side that would take a dock and no small number of credits to fix permanently. Ian said: "Thanks Sonya. You're the best mother a son could have." Even behind a panel further from where she had last overhead a conversation between Ian and Sonya, Ian's words came through clearly and the little sunny leprechaun nearly dropped her data pad in surprise. She might have caught the data pad but she didn't manage to prevent herself from uttering a little gasp of surprise or from overbalancing, and falling against a loose panel with a crash.

SONYA Gulliver heard the noise, moved over to where the little imp had been working away. She pulled up the panel. There were lots of way to move through the ship, she'd not realized Siobhan had somehow got to where she was. Sonya expected Gizmo, instead, "Siobhan." she said with surprise, the realization that the news of her having a child was now shared. There were plenty of reasons she had not spoke of Ian to her new lover. Good reasons. Or they seemed so at the time, she'd been preparing to tell her. Now though, they all seemed foolish. Stupid. "I..." Sonya tried to gather her thoughts to the little speech she'd had in her head when the time was right. Fear took her though. Would this ruin things? "I... was going to tell you, I just... seemed like..." Sonya looked at Siobhan, best as she could as the pixie was in a literal tight spot, even for her. "... just, lots of people would get at him. To get at Ian and me." ... oh god, she'll think I don't trust her.. ".. and I .. I should be with him, not here playing soldier.. " ... oh god, oh god, she'll think I mean not with her... Sonya just flopped back on the floor, sat on her butt, and drew her legs up close to her body. ============= (( OOC. soon as we can finish up current conversation, I'll move us to Galiano and Glory separating, say 24 hours later? )) |

ABE - GLORY Abe was laying there with her eyes closed listening to the vacuum pump doing it's thing. She would have gone to sleep, but too many things were roaming through her head. Well one thing anyway. A man. Ian Dugan. She wished she could get up and go see what he was doing. She wanted to help him. He was hurting and she wanted to help. So when Beth quietly slipped in, she more than welcomed the distraction. "I'm not sleeping," she said as she opened her eyes and watched the doctor do her duties. "Is the machine doing its job?" Of course it was or else Beth would probably be moving a little faster. It was a silly question. So she changed subjects. "You get to check on everyone? Sylandra OK?" |

Abe said: "I'm not sleeping. Is the machine doing its job?" "It is indeed," Beth replied, a little unnecessarily but then she hadn't really figured out that Abe had read her answer from the fact that she wasn't moving fast. Abe said: "You get to check on everyone? Sylandra OK?" "Not yet," Beth replied unhappily as she completed her checks on Abe and the vacuum pump. "Events have conspired against that so far. But now that I have checked up on you, tracking down Sylandra is my next priority." The thought of Sylandra brought a smile to her face but the reminder that she was injured brought the frown back. "Would you like some help going to sleep?" Beth asked. "I can give you a sleeping pill if you like." A period of quiet sleep would do Abe a lot of good but she had never been one to push chemical solutions on to people who weren't comfortable with them.

Ian made his way from his ship to the Galiano. "Request permission to come aboard" He spoke to no one but did ask the first person he ran into where they were holding the prisoner. One he got direction and found the room, he tapped on the door and entered. The first thing he did was to walk up to the man punch him across the face. The man's head snapped to the side, fast, with the force of the blow, then came back more slowly under his own power. He looked at Ian, spat blood and a tooth. "That the best you can do?" Still in motion, Ian continued on his path, out of range for the man to reach. He did not even bother with an answer. He walked to the far wall, spun around and leaned against it. He took in the room and spoke to Syl. "Knives are ok. You can really do a number on someone with small cuts. Lots a small cuts. Bleed a person for a while. But what I prefer is the feet. Turn the bottoms into hamburger. Ever see a man walk on feet that have been turned that way? Well, he walks a little like ... me." There was threat there ... and it showed in the eyes of the man chained to his wall. |

Beth spent a little bit of time stabilising Bosch's hand as much as she could so that she had the best chance of saving what was left of it when Bosch was ready, from a medical perspective, to be operated on and when the situation was sufficiently stable that she could risk starting a lengthy procedure. Even so, her work had not taken as long as patching the ship and so Beth was not far behind Ian. The thing that had taken the most time was finding out where Sylandra was without alerting her and allowing her escape proper medical attention. Beth had learned that much about Sylandra in their short association; that she put duty before her own comfort. Beth thought it was commendable even though the doctor in her found it frustrating. Ian said: Knives are ok .... .... Ever see a man walk on feet that have been turned that way? Well, he walks a little like ... me." Beth had shrunk back into a corner, horrified and fascinated at the same time. She wasn't completely concealed but she had come in quietly and had hung back from Ian so she hoped that neither he nor Sylandra, with their attention on the prisoner, would notice her presence. Beth didn't want to know what was going to happen. Beth needed to know what was going to happen. So she squatted very still in her little corner and watched with big, round eyes and with her heart in her mouth, ready to put her hand over her mouth of she thought she was going to make a noise.

Slash was well impressed by his position as prisoner of Glory and Ian Dugan. They were cold blooded killers just like him and his employer. He'd known that before he took the job, but the money was, well.. really good. "What then? Ya think I know somethin? ax it. I'll tell ya. But if'd be death, get on wit it. AYDEN - GALIANO No one really answered Ayden on if she could get them anything, but she found herself in the kitchen anyway. She looked around and managed to find some flour, yeast and some other things and set about making some fresh bao. As she did, she worried about things. She worried about Brandon. She worried about Rex. She even worried about everyone on the Galiano and Glory. And that woman... Bosch? Her fingers... Ayden swallowed thickly as she thought about the state they were in when she first saw them. How she must have suffered. Finally, she got them made and put them aside to let them rise. Then she leaned over the counter, letting her weight rest on her hands. Rex... Was he OK? She hadn't heard. The thought of losing him was unthinkable to her. Not now since they just found each other and were going to go get Brandon one day. She didn't even hear him open the door and slip in. He wrapped his arm around her middle and pulled her against him. "What's up Doc?" She turned in his arms to face him and their kiss was sweet and light. "Not a doctor, you know. I'm just a medic," she whispered to him. "Did you come to help me?" "I'm sure I can be of some use, stirring something..." She felt heat wash through her. God that man could get her blood pumping with just one sentence. Especially if it was charged with innuendo. "Break some eggs maybe?" Ayden leaned in and kissed him soundly and with a little more passion. "Don't know about that, but I know I have at least an hour before the bao needs to be baked," she said softly, letting her hands runs up his back. "Do you have anywhere to be?" |

"Hello, Sonya," Sonya's pixie replied, smiling, because she always did and besides, it helped hide her embarrassment that she had been caught eavesdropping, though that had not been her intention. Despite the smile her eyes showed her concern as Sonya stuttered her way through her explanation. The concern was not for what Sonya was telling her but because she was so obviously torn between her duty to Glory and her duty to her son and because she was so obviously upset that she was fumbling her explanation. She clambered out of her little corner, made easier now that Sonya had removed the panel completely and sat down beside her lover. "Silly," she said fondly as she put an arm around Sonya and pulled her close. "I don't have any children of my own but I understand a mother's need to protect them and from what I can see you are doing that, even though it means you are separated from him." Siobhán kissed Sonya's head and then turned it so that she could kiss her on her lips; a soft, gentle kiss, of reassurance, not passion though that was ever near the surface and wouldn't take much to bring it out. "I will understand if you decide to go back to him and, if you would like me to, I will come with you," she offered and then kissed Sonya again. "Of course Ian might grizzle if we don't fix his boat up first," she added with a soft laugh that suggested she wasn't bothered about Ian grizzling.

Interview of Slash Slash seemed a little relieved and perhaps surprised that they didn't know? Then he smiled a little, "you must have a lot of enemies in high placins' if ya don't ken that. Was a man named Corso something, I didn't 'ave much ado wit him, but he'd be the one providin' the financins and intell." "Renwick took it as a contract, did 'er own lookin' into things. somethin' about loose ends and some serums or somethin'. Renwick had 'er own reasons though. some Alliance operative or some such 'n her bein at odds. Old rivalry ya know. Yeah, guessin' ya know 'bout those eh?" "dis operative did a number on her school marm hubby, left him a mess; so she took this on personal. never like those kin of work, but the money was mighty good." ========= SONYA GULLIVER "yeah." Sonya said in response to Siobhan's remark of going with her. "I"m thinking it's time to get outa this life." "patch her up for now I guess, I conjure Ian and William ain't gonna want to stick around long linked up like we are, not much distance from the attack." Then a beep and tweet from the control panel. Sonya looked. "you got the external comm links working." she said, then tapped a couple buttons. "ian's got it set up to pick up anything relevant to Glory." and then the two of them watched the broadcast. Sonya's eyes looked sad at the shootings presented. She looked at Siobhan. "Yeah. I think maybe we could sit this war out and maybe go raise my baby?" ============== REX YANGTREE He was a little slow on the uptake, internally he was processing what had happened. What the role of Galiano was, how he could use it to find their son. His blank face at Ayden's cooking time announcement turned to a bright smile, "really an hour? you can't slow cook them somehow?" Rex pulled her close, his hands playfully pulled at her clothing.... "Oh, maybe we should go to our cabin? Though I've fond memories of you and a kitchen table or two... " a glance at the make shift kitchen. "this one is not befitting a lady of your stature.... not to mention your, er, vocalizations." |

ABE - GLORY Abe was glad to find out that the machine she was hooked up to was doing a fine job of reattaching her injured lung to the chest wall... Or whatever the scientific verbiage for that was. She was sad to see that Beth was a little distressed about not being able to get to see Sylandra or her injuries yet. "Don't let her sidetrack you," Abe warned. When she was asked if she wanted something to help her sleep, she thought about it for a moment. It would be a good way to shut down the inner dialog going on in her head, but if something else should happen, she would be dead to the world and because of that maybe even dead altogether. She couldn't let herself be that vulnerable. "No. I'm good. I will try to get some on my own." She did feel a little worn out though. Maybe she should try to get some sleep. Then she watched as Beth moved on to check on her other patients. One in particular. ![]() Abe didn't know how long it was, but she fell asleep and fell hard. The events of the day taking more out of her than she was even able to admit. AYDEN - GALIANO Ayden wondered what Rex was thinking about. He didn't quite seem there for a moment. Maybe he was hurt? Exhaustion or oxygen deprivation while in the vacc suit? All sorts of things ran through her mind, but he finally snapped to. "really an hour? you can't slow cook them somehow?" He pulled her body close to his as he went about tugging at her clothing. She couldn't help but giggle. "I can work wonders in an hour," she teased huskily. "At least until we can get to things all proper like." She pulled his shirt out of his pants and let her hands slide up the bare skin of his back. "Oh, maybe we should go to our cabin? Though I've fond memories of you and a kitchen table or two..." Ah yes... The grand kitchen in her father's house. She wondered for a moment how they had managed to get away with the night they had 'christened' the kitchen table. She leaned and nibbled a bit on his collarbone. "this one is not befitting a lady of your stature.... not to mention your, er, vocalizations." She smacked him in mock offense. "Well, I'm not exactly a lady of stature anymore am I?" she reminded him. Yes, she was far from her days as a debutante. "And I thought you liked my vocalizations." She kissed him softly on the lips. "Maybe we can compare the stability of my prep table here and our bunk? It could take a few tries to get a real opinion, you know," she mused. "But I will follow your lead. I want to spend time with you. Today was hard. I've never... Well... It was hard." She just wanted to be with him. |

"Oh dear,"" Siobhán said as she watched the broadcast. A dissinterested observer might suggest that what had happened to Glory was in some way poetic justice. "What's it about?" Siobhán asked, semi-rhetorically. "This new war, I mean. The last war was obscure enough at times and in the end I didn't see much difference between the two sides. I took or assisted in the taking of many lives and the destruction of a large number of facilities but looking back I don't believe any of the lives I took or the friends I lost were worth the outcome." she appended. Sonya said: "Yeah. I think maybe we could sit this war out and maybe go raise my baby?" "I like the idea but can we?" she asked softly, wanting to establish what was reasonable, not wanting to seem antagonistic. "Is anywhere safe? In general or for us in particular, now that we are known associates of Glory and Ian?" Siobhán sighed softly and pulled Sonya a little closer. "I wish I knew whether abstaining is sensible or just sticking our head in the sand and hoping our bums don't get shot off." She felt the warmth of the woman beside her, thought of living in a nice little cottage somewhere away from the bustle and strife, of bringing up a child and adding to the collection and compared it to what William and Ian were offering. It was no contest. Siobhán went up on to her knees in front of Sonya, took Sonya's hands in hers and leaned forward to give Sonya a long, warm kiss full of love with the passion hinted at but not the main focus. "Let's do it; get your son and find a quiet corner and build a home for us based on love and peace. We'll defend it from the destroyers but we won't take it to anyone and we can let like minded people join us, take in more children. Build a little oasis," she said and went in for another kiss to show she meant it. Edited by Clare, Oct 12 2015, 11:28 AM.

Ian listened to what Slash had to say and was about to speak when an alert came from his PDA. Usually it just bleeped, but this time, the system triggered on something about him specifically. He took out his PDA and hit Play.
Ian leaned against the wall for support. How did they get this information? They had planted EMP's and took out the central core. They had also used an Alias for his crew. None of there faces were clear enough. He had to show his iDent to get thin in. Everyone else should be in the clear. He knew that Blue Sun was good, and connected, but not like this. He still had one trump up his sleeve. He had the copy of the program they were going to use. Now they needed to get the ship up and running to make a run. Ian had a plan. "Slash, today is your lucky day. You get to live. Once Syl is done with you, we'll put you in an escape pod with a week's rat's. You might be able to last two if you work it right." He looked at Syl. "Find out anything else you can, any way you can then get what's left of him into a pod He turned to leave and saw Beth in the corner. "Beth! Make sure you take care of Syl before she gets too far into her work." He left the room and made his way back to the Glory. As soon as he passed into the ship proper, Gizmo ran out from where ever he had hid and clambered up to Ian shoulder and wrapped his tail around his neck. He thumbed the All Comm. "AS soon as Syl and Beth return, we need to part company and head to Haven for repair." He thumbed the unit off and went to check on his crew. They would have a lot to discuss. Maybe it was right for folk to leave. It'd be safer. |

Ian said: "Beth! Make sure you take care of Syl before she gets too far into her work." Beth couldn't have felt slighted by Ian's order if she had wanted to but instead she took it as authority to deal with Sylandra's injury without Sylandra being able to make too much of a fuss lest Beth invoke Ian. Not that Beth wanted to have to either rely on either Ian's authority or on invoking him directly; she really hoped that Sylandra would submit to her administrations without fuss. She walked toward Sylandra and placed herself between her and Slash. It wasn't just to ensure that Sylandra's attention was on her though for the moment she was happy for Sylandra to believe that her approach was to make sure that Sylandra was attended to first. Beth had an ulterior motive; she didn't want to see Slash tortured, she didn't want to see Sylandra doing the torturing and she didn't want to believe that Sylandra was capable of such a thing. "Is this where I want to make my stand," Beth asked herself. She wasn't sure but she could make a start without having to follow through to the bitter end. She believed it would help if she knew where she stood with Sylandra but she wasn't so naive as to believe that Sylandra had to know herself. "My looking at your wound is long past due," Beth said quietly but firmly.
