System Access / Cargo Bay

Ian heard Mike's reply right after Abe's. He looked back at the dead man whose head was laying at an odd angle to him body.

Unless he's one of them Zombie things that the Gemini ran into a few years back, that Huhn Dahn is very dead

"You stay here, now. I'll be back fer ya soon."

He thumbed the comm and stepped into the Cargo Bay proper. The lights flickered on and he heard a couple of bangs, thuds and groans from the engine room and then everything steadied out. THe air quickly cleared out now that the power was back

"Beth, do a triage.

He was not aware that Beth was in her Cabin with Abe by that time.

Ian heard Syl's comm and saw her moving away from him, dragging a person.

"Syl, hog tie him and get up to the bridge. Make ready to get us outta here. I'll go check on Bosch and plant charges to force the disengagement of the Firefly. We can come back for salvage later. Fire up whatever weapons we have online and shoot off a warning shot. Let them know we still have teeth."

He ran to the weapons locker, took out three shaped charges and two grenades before running to the airlock and into the firefly. The charges and grenades were in a pouch and Ghost and Ryder were out and ready to sing their song.

BRIDGE

Sylandra picked up a third ship arriving in the vicinity of Glory. A transponder signal identified it as Galiano, an ally on the side of the Independent Faction.

...

HALL
Becker found nothing in Machine Gun Kellie's pockets except for a sizable wad of cash and a lipstick.
The other assailants all had cash, a few incidentals, no identification.
...

ENEMY FIREFLY

The Firefly was attached with a simple standard docking bridgework, it would not be difficult to disengage it. The Glory Cargo door was cut open to make a small entry. A quick welding job should take care of that.

Jasper Daltry stood at the damaged door. "I guess your gonna want me to fix that?" he said to anyone near by, or just to himself. His eyes were red and puffy, his gaze was the the thousand meter stare variety.

Inside the Firefly Dugan entered the cargo deck Bosch stood with her back to him.

Her left hand was up on a heavy steel crate, her fingers had been cut off and burned with a welding torch. The person doing the torture and disfigurement stood on the other side of Bosch. The figure stepped to the side, sat the torch on the steel container with her left hand and moved where Ian could see her.

It was Rose Renwick.

"Sorry for the difficulties Captain Dugan, but as you might have guessed, this is personal."

Rose held out a gun toward him but turned it to point at Bosch's head.

"I did hope to have more time with her."

GALIANO

( from Galiano thread )

It had been a period of time while the Galiano sped through the Black on its way to rescue Glory. William, Sonya and Rex manned the bridge as the ship ran on Hard Burn, driving hard toward their destination. William shook his head. "Don't look good. That's the rub. If we come out and they're dead in space, we might get a hook on her for a tow, but we'll be low on fuel as well. If there is something else going on, we'd best be ready for anything."

In the Black, two scavengers were joining their partners in feeding off the dead ship. They were still a short distance away, but their complement of Marines would turn the balance.

Galiano's thrusters were state of the art, still only months old and primed for pursuit. The blips appeared on her scanners well before the scavengers would detect her approach. The proximity alarms echoed softly through Galiano's corridors even as William and Rex were analyzing the readouts.

"That's Glory. Her config was fed into our Nav so we would know her anywhere. There is something adjacent to her, and two others closing. We'll reach her about the same time as they do. Until we get a visual, we won't know if they are hostile or rescue."

He turned to Rex. "Best we're ready for the worse."

GLORY - ABE

All hands, count off. One more down. Who's here and who's hurt. Where is Bosch!

"Still... here..."

Abe heard the others sound off too. Seemed like all the unfriendlies had been dealt with, but you never know. She was about to say that Bosch went into the Firefly when she heard someone approaching. She steeled herself to deal whatever blow was necessary. If anyone came in the room, they'd be meeting Dude first hand. And not in a friendly way.

If only those little black spots would go away.

"Daltry comin' in."

Abe relaxed and let her hand drop. She saw Jasper come in along with Beth and then he slipped out to help out some more.

"you're up."

With a huge amount of effort, Abe rolled out from under the bed until she was on her back in the middle of the floor.

"Got... shot... point blank..." she gasped. "Armor... stopped... bullet..."

If she could only breathe.

"Think... lung... collapsed..." she told her, not trying to be a doctor, just trying to help. "Bosch... in Firefly..."

Then she heard his voice on the comm.

"Beth, do a triage.

God... He was still alive.

He was going into the Firefly. Down where there could be more assassins. Alone. She looked up at Beth with desperate eyes.

"Need... to breathe... Ian... Needs... Help," she ground out. "Stim... shot... Gotta... go..."

She hoped Beth understood.

"He... could... die..."

Then she heard another voice running through Ian's comm (which I am assuming is still on).

"Sorry for the difficulties Captain Dugan, but as you might have guessed, this is personal." "I did hope to have more time with her."

Yes, there was indeed more folks intending them harm inside and by the sound of it, Ian had come across this person and whoever she was, it sounded like she had bested Bosch. If that happened, then Ian was in big trouble.

She was not going to lose him. She looked up at Beth, her desperation getting stronger.

"Stim... Please..."

Abe's eyes began to roll back into her head. She was losing consciousness fast.

GALIANO - AYDEN

"That's Glory. Her config was fed into our Nav so we would know her anywhere. There is something adjacent to her, and two others closing. We'll reach her about the same time as they do. Until we get a visual, we won't know if they are hostile or rescue."

Ayden heard it all from the doorway to the bridge. This is where Rex had gone and obviously something was afoot.

"Best we're ready for the worse."

Which means things could be bad. So she spoke up.

"There could be wounded. I'll get my things," she said, looking determined. She nodded slightly at Rex as a greeting and a pledge that she knew things could go sideways. "Won't be long."

Then she turned and bolted back for their bunk. Maybe he could lend her a couple of weapons. She only had the one.

Sylandra hitched the unconscious man over to the staircase and picked up her shoulder bag. Reaching inside, she pulled out a length of cord and tied him to the stair's stanchion. She checked over her pistol/smg and swapped clips before following Ian's order to head for the bridge. Before she could get there, she caught the voice over his comm unit. Rose? She winced. She had had a run in with the bitch before. It wasn't pretty.

She backtracked to the hole in the airlock and slid sideways through, gun up and ready. She paused briefly to watch the drama unfold before sighting the red-dot on Rose's forehead and pulling the trigger.

Enemy Firefly - Cargo bay

The smell of burnt flesh brought back too many memories for Ian. It took him a couple of seconds to bring his mind back from the battlefield and trenches of yesteryear to the Cargo Bay and Bossch, here and now. In that time Rose had stepped out from the shadows, a gun in her hand.

AS soon as she moved the weapon from Ian toward Bosch, Ian fired. His pistols had been at the ready as he entered. As he pulled back the trigger he noticed the red dot appear on Rose's forehead.

He had fired both weapons at center mass. They did not jam and he doubted that he missed. Not at this range. Even Rose she wore body armor, the head shot would take her down.

((OOC) Ian does seem to leave that thing on. Hope he remembers it before going to the bathroom ...)

After instinctively looking around to see if anyone was watching, Becker pocketed the stack of credits he found in Kellie's pocket. "That sure eases the pain." Though not quite as much as he would have liked. There was nothing else to gain from the assailant, he needed only to sweep her away when the danger was gone. Speaking of which...

On comms. "Jasper, get that gun online so we can start throwing stones." They'd put in most of the legwork, it couldn't be far from operational now. After a painful climb to his feet, a sigh of exasperation and a tough walk, Becker made his way to the weapons position he had formerly taken with his new assault rifle in tow. "Gimmie a green light Jasp." She was loaded, just needed power.

"Eeek!" Beth exclaimed when Jasper grabbed her by the collar and brought her up short. Intent on running as quickly as she could she hadn't heard Jasper coming up behind her.

Abe said: "Stim... Please..."

"No," Beth said firmly, the mouse gone and the voice of confident trauma surgeon coming out of hiding. There was some blood but it wasn't arterial and it wasn't coming at her and although she had perhaps gone a shade or two paler she was holding up.

"This is real life, not some vid drama. It will only make things worse and you will be even less able to help Captain Dugan, quite possibly permanently," Beth continued though she sounded like she was wavering. It was not because she thought it would help but because she had never been able to stand up for herself except in a properly staffed and equipped operating theatre where her word had been law. She had had reasonable success as a general practitioner in standing her ground and giving patients what they needed rather than what they wanted. Being in a combat environment was something brand new for her and she was feeling very much out of her depth.

Seeking a way to gain support and divert her attention from Abe's request, she turned to Jasper. "We need to get her in to the med bay and we need to get that armour off so I can run a scan to see how bad the damage is,".

Siobhán on Galliano

Siobhán knew she probably should have gone to her cabin and got some rest but she wanted to be close to Sonya, even if Sonya was too busy to pay her much attention. She was cognisant of the potential for her to distract her lover so she stayed in the background and watched her work, tinkering around the edges of a design project she was working on but avoiding the substance of it, knowing she was too distracted to do it justice and would probably just end up having to do the work again.

William said to Rex: "Best we're ready for the worse."

"I'll get kitted up and meet you at the airlock," she said and headed for her cabin where she checked her knives were all in their proper places and picked up the rifle she had acquired at the space station. She gave it a quick once over to check for damage or dirt and then checked the ammunition which amounted to the grand total of one-and-a-half clips. She put the full clip in the rifle, chambered a round, removed the clip, inserted another round from the other clip and reinserted it into the rifle. It gave her an extra round and from experience that that one extra round could make all the difference. The spare half-clip she put in a pocket in her overalls and then headed for the airlock.

JASPER DALTRY on Glory

Jasper had looked through Beth as though he had not heard or she was speaking some lost language. He'd drifted on to the Cargo Deck.

He heard Becker's order and stumbled to the comm near the breached door. "Systems are up." A pause. "I think" His face showed confusion, did he start them all up again? Then he noticed something that couldn't possible be real.
"Er, Becker?... did you know we had a space monkey on board?" Gizmo had been there for a moment.

A check would show that all lights are green though numerous diagnostic warnings about low pressure, value leaks, power failures parameters dropping were all over the control board.

.......
ON THE FIREFLY.

Rose Renwick dropped to the floor of the firefly. Dead.

Bosch simply stood in her track, showing no pain or awareness.

.......

GALIANO

On the bridge it was clear the two enemy ships in proximity were wary of this third ship that had just arrived. They veered away as though they were considering options.

"I don't think they want to play." said Sonya at the Pilot's controls.

Rex met Siobhan at the airlock. He'd all but ignored Ayden. He was in war mode, a quick assurance that she wasn't about to join them was all he needed to keep going.
Yangtree looked over Brannigan, prepared for a firefight. There wasn't time for any real tactical discussion. "Cover the left, I got the right. Anything in the center is first come first to kill."

Then Yangtree smiled at her and gave her a little hip check. It was like they were already old comrades in arms. He didn't know what they 'd be walking in on. A mop up, a massacre of them or potential enemies. Just like old times. Ready to die, not willing to let that happen; but so much out of the realm of what you know. Still, you put on the mask and checked your weapons and got ready to go through the breach.

He thought of Ayden. it won't end like this. No. We have a destiny.

William smiled and nodded in agreement. "With us being in Alliance Patrol mode, I imagine they won't be sticking around. We'll make dock to Glory's starboard cargo hatch. We'll be close enough to comm link to the crew's personal comms by then. We'll get their sitrep and see if they need assistance."

With the two scavengers speeding away, Galiano nestles up to Glory's side and Sonya lines up the airlocks, and a companionway is established between the ships. William toggles the comm channel. "Glory, this is Galiano. Ian? Anyone there? We are ready to board, but need a sit rep from you. Don't want to come blasting away as we board."

FIREFLY

Sylandra lowered her pistol, but stayed alert. She slid around the cargo hold, opposite Ian and Bosch's position. Heading further into the ship, she did a quick clearing before returning to Ian. "Ship's empty. I even checked some o' the hidieholes that I know of from my time on a Firefly. "

Firefly - Cargo Bay / Glory - Cargo Bay

Rose crumpled to the deck like a puppet with it's strings cut. She may have been pretty, but she was a snake and deserved what she got. Ian was aware of Syl moving around the crate that Bossch's hand was worked one and that she went further into the ship. He eyes never left Bossch. He crossed to her and saw her hand. He knew that it was bad. With the parts that went into her making, Ian didn't think that it would be too hard to replace a hand. It may not look as good as the rest of her, but ...

For the here and now, she needed help.

Ian moved beside her.

"Bossch ... Ryobi.

He moved in front of her, a hip between the crate and her body. He raised a hand and touched her cheek, pulling her face toward his. SHe looked ... drugged ... under a spell ... hypnotized. Whatever, she was out of it.

Ian looked at her damaged hand. At the charred stumps of her fingers and breathed through his open mouth so he would not have to smell the sweet cloying scent of cooked flesh. Technically he was now tasting it ... but he wasn't really smelling it.

He took a bandanna from his coat pocket and tied it over and around the stump of her finger-less hand to keep it out of her sight mainly.

He had replaced his weapons long ago, after they had sang their powerful song and let his coat fall to cover him like a shroud, letting his arms be free. He took Ryobi by the shoulders and turned her toward the Glory.

"Come on, Mei-Mei, let's get you home."

He had gone all of three steps before Syl returned with her report.

Ian nodded once.

"Salvage what you can, we leave in ten minutes. Dont worry about the trash, we'll just let the cold of the Black take her. Search her before you leave. I'll send help as soon as I can.

He stepped through the hole and intro Glory when he heard the sound of another ship docking. Ghost was in his hand. He would not let any more harm come to his crew.

Quote:

"Glory, this is Galiano. Ian? Anyone there? We are ready to board, but need a sit rep from you. Don't want to come blasting away as we board."

He holstered his weapon and slammed a fist against the comm button.

"This is Ian. We have wounded and one prisoner. Come help with the salvage and you get forty percent. We're leaving in twenty minutes.

He switched to All Comm

"All Hands, this battle is won but the cost is always too high. All wounded head down to Med Bay or count off. Doc, we need ya in the Med Bay."

He shut off the comm and hit the button to open the airlock where the Galiano had docked.

"Come on Ryobi, just a little farther."

((OOC) Assumed that Bossch was catatonic and would move where guided. Will edit if needed.))

GLORY - ABE

Abe was hoping that Beth would give her what she needed in order for her to go help Ian, but it didn't seem like it was going to happen.

"No," "This is real life, not some vid drama. It will only make things worse and you will be even less able to help Captain Dugan, quite possibly permanently,"

Abe's eyes narrowed at the diminutive doctor.

"I... can't... lose him..." she wheezed out. Then a tear ran down her face. "Need... breathe..."

She was getting unbelievably lightheaded. And it was beginning to scare the Hell out of her.

"We need to get her in to the med bay and we need to get that armour off so I can run a scan to see how bad the damage is,"

What if she couldn't get it together? What if the lung damage was extensive? She had sidestepped the bullet, but the impact had done a good amount harm. It was good that it had. A direct blow to the heart could've killed her.

Then she heard something that alarmed her even more. The docking of another ship. Her gaze solidified somehow and she peered at Beth.

"More?"

"Glory, this is Galiano. Ian? Anyone there? We are ready to board, but need a sit rep from you. Don't want to come blasting away as we board."

They knew Ian. This was good right? Then she head music to her ears.

"All Hands, this battle is won but the cost is always too high. All wounded head down to Med Bay or count off. Doc, we need ya in the Med Bay."

Everything was going OK. Their intruders had been eliminated.

She looked over at Beth and succumbed to the lack of oxygen.

GALIANO - AYDEN

Ayden arrived relatively quickly to the airlock, med bag in her hand and a gun strapped on her hip.

"Cover the left, I got the right. Anything in the center is first come first to kill."

She caught the hip check, but blew it off. She had a job to do. But the thing is, Rex didn't seem to note her arrival. She almost thought that he hadn't expected her to want to come along.

Then she heard the voice of someone from the other ship.

"This is Ian. We have wounded and one prisoner. Come help with the salvage and you get forty percent. We're leaving in twenty minutes.

So she spoke up.

"Knew I had made the right decision. They have wounded. I can help."

Sylandra returned to Glory after her cursory check of the Firefly. She holstered Bruce and nodded to Ian as he set about organizing the rescue party. She bent over Rose's lifeless body and stripped off the dead woman's equipment belt, weapons and patted down pockets for any valuables. Satisfied that she had everything of importance, she stepped through the hole and rested against the bulkhead, touching her side gingerly as the others came through the opposite airlock.

When she saw the woman with an obvious medical bag step through, she waved her over.

"Knife slice on my arm 'n' possible cracked rib. I can get around, but just lettin' you know my situation."

She let the air out of her lungs with a gradual sigh, feeling the pain start to spread as her adrenalin faded. The blackness at the edge of her vision tried to tunnel down her sight, but she shook her head and crushed her eyes close and then open again. The sparks of light in her vision blinked a few more times before clearing. She pushed her leg straight again and stepped away from the bulkhead.

The other two scavengers had taken off.

As Galiano crew entered Rex Yangtree went to an apparent less attentive mode. He stayed fairly close to Ayden, yet tried to keep an eye on the entrance to his own ship. While trying his best to look relaxed, he was still alert.

He figured he could play orderly. Now Ayden would be calling the shots, or whoever Glory's doc is.

Sonya Gulliver, once given clearance by the Captain moved to Glory. She took note of the carnage. When given the opportunity she asked Dugan, "Need anything?"

.....

Roselyn Renwick's body had weapons, cash, a picture of a much younger her and an equally young man. An old time wedding picture.

On the ship are the recent history in the logs.
Stolen during the recent war, contacts with Alliance Special Operations.
A hunt for code name Bosch/Ryiobi, then learning that 'it' (that's how Rose referred to Bosch) was with Glory, then a hunt for Glory.
A purchase of data information on Bosch, learned by Rose. Records are hand written, but Bosch is a failed model experiment with severe psychological damage. It was supposed to have been terminated, but then was used by several different covert groups, being bought and sold with her code words to control her.
Contact then with agents of Corso, a private contract to take out members of Glory crew.

.....
Bosch remained catatonic physically, though an exam would show she is conscious and can feel pain, but she is unable to react.

JASPER DALTRY
Is dehydrated and semi-conscious having moved to the observation area and curled up on a couch.

.....

Glory systems are functioning, barely. She can fly and fight.

"Jasper?" Beth queried, then not hearing an answer she turned to discover that he had disappeared.

"Bother!" she said, which was about as offensive as her language got and then she set about making Abe comfortable.

Ian said over comm: "Doc, we need ya in the Med Bay."

Beth leaned over to the comm unit and pressed the button. "Just next door to the medbay, Captain, with Abe. She possibly has a collapsed lung and I need assistance to get her into the med bay. Jasper was with me but he has gone walkabout." The latter wasn't intended as a condemnation, more that she was concerned that he had disappeared and that he might have wandered into danger.

While she waited, Beth turned her attention back to Abe, starting by removing the armour (and anything that prevented her getting to the armour) before running her hand scanner over the lung. "Nope, it's a ...." she said, looking at the results....

Quickly she pulled a large bore needle out of her bag that had a valve on one end and feeling down Abe's chest she counted the ribs, felt for the gap between the third and fourth and plunged the needle in to it, far enough but not too far and was rewarded by an initial hiss of air through the valve which became a regular series of hisses that gradually diminished

".... tension pneumothorax," she completed, checking for other injuries as Abe's breathing returned to normal and some of the colour started to come back.

"You'll be okay, now, Abe," Beth said. "But you will need to rest for a day or two and no running around getting shot at for a week or so," she added with a smile. "Do you need pain relief?" she added and then, in case Abe had ideas about getting up, said. "And you are to lie still until someone comes to help me get you into a bunk in the medbay. Then I will get a little vacuum on that tube so that your lung can reattach itself to your chest cavity."

For comms. "They're letting us breath." Using the old fashioned technique of looking, Mike had seen the pirates get muscled away. And before he had fired only the only approaching ship, they had proclaimed they're. "Just Galiano... here." A little relief meant a little less need for adrenaline. Mike became aware of the weird feeling in his head, a sharp pain reminded him of the hole that was expelling blood from him. "We should..." Mike couldn't finish. He lay his head forward and against a girder for support. Just about now, the ramifications of being shot were setting in. He switched off his outgoing comm.

"I should..." ...get to med-bay.

He pulled himself away from Glory's guns and slumped against the nearest wall. Using every wall, railing and nook he could get a hand to, he began pushing himself. "Don't pass out. Don't pass out." Was what he told himself as a enormous fuzz filled his head and told him he was going to pass out. Gripping onto railing, Mike practically slid down the stairs to the bottom deck, and the fact he was still firmly planted on his feet at the end of it gave enough amazement to keep him awake.

"She told me once," said Becker now within earshot of the med-by. "I'm a B positive." Trina had tried to educate him once or twice. "That's one in ten people you know." He hoped by now, Beth had seen him, leaning against the wall, with blood stained clothes below his waist wound. He pointed at the bullet hole. "Anything vital here?"

The wounded are taken to Med Bay.

Ayden and Beth take care of them.

Jasper Daltry is located and taken next door to keep under observation.
There's a lot of mumbling about monkeys

Bosch has some bruises but show nothing out of the ordinary except for the cut off fingers and her catatonic state, which does not reveal a source.

Sonya convinced Rex that Glory is not a worry and he relaxes a bit and offered to help scavenge the firefly, which has a decent supply of various goods and crates. It will take more than 10-20 minutes to load it all to Glory or Galiano.

GALIANO - AYDEN

Ayden pushed by Rex and Siobhan when she saw that there were wounded. The first one she came across was a woman leaning up against the bulk head. She was about to ask, but the obviously veteran soldier beat her to the punch.

"Knife slice on my arm 'n' possible cracked rib. I can get around, but just lettin' you know my situation."

Ayden nodded at her and admired the woman's strength. Could she ever be that strong? Cause that might be what she would need to get Brandon back.

"You sure? My name is Ayden by the way. Just give me a yell if you start feeling worse. OK?" she turned and looked around surveying the other areas for more injured. She felt bolstered since she saw her straighten up and step away from the bulkhead.

But then she heard the sound of someone who needed her more.

"Don't pass out. Don't pass out."

She turned towards the sound just to see a man come sliding none to gracefully down the rail and actually land on his feet at the bottom of the stairs. He hadn't seen her yet.

"She told me once," "I'm a B positive."

He seemed rather out of it though, she just hoped she didn't spook him.

"That's one in ten people you know." "Anything vital here?"

She stepped cautiously towards him.

"Name's Ayden. I'm from the Galiano. Bit of a medic," she said with a smile. "Nice to know blood type in advance. Cuts down on the work."

As soon as she figured he had seen her and hadn't been spooked, she looked at his wound, pulling his shirt from his waist as she went.

"Looks like a through and through, but I need to find your med bay to poke around there some more," she said as she slid under his arm for support. Care to show me the way?"

GLORY - ABE

Abe came back to semi consciousness when something big and sharp was stuck in her side. Was she being stabbed now? The only thing about it was that it made her feel so much better.

".... tension pneumothorax,"

Oh God... Air. She could breathe. After a couple of minutes, she even managed to pry her eyes open to see Beth's lovely face above hers.

"You'll be okay, now, Abe," "But you will need to rest for a day or two and no running around getting shot at for a week or so,"

Abe smiled a bit.

"S'not my call. Can ya' ask the bad guys for a pass?"

"Do you need pain relief?"

"Nah. Not yet. Pain tells me I'm alive."

"And you are to lie still until someone comes to help me get you into a bunk in the medbay. Then I will get a little vacuum on that tube so that your lung can reattach itself to your chest cavity."

Abe immediately began to try to sit up.

"That's also not my call. Maybe we can get two passes from the bad guys?" Abe said with a pained look on her face. "Help me up, Beth. I am sure it will be better if ya help me than if I do it myself."

Mike had to take a moment. He heard a voice, looked up and there was... wow. Smiling at him too.

That said. He had never seen her before, and she was in the middle of Glory. He pushed his shoulder into nearest wall, and placed a hand on the gun at his hip. "You sure?" He asked with raised eyebrows, though the feeling of pain was showcased on his face. "The last pretty woman I met tried to kill me."

Despite how jaded he was, Mike couldn't bring himself to draw on or threaten such a seemingly kind hearted and unarmed girl. Despite what a small part of his mind was telling. He relented, and the hand dropped from his hip to dangle. "Well I say tried. She's actually pretty on course by my guess."

Mike fully conceded as she started playing doctor on him, pulling out his shirt and checking the wound. Then she took his arm to offer support. "Okay, but just this once. Tell the captain I was really hard on you."

Becker did his best to hold his own weight, not wanting to put any pressure on her, but there was much beyond his control at this point. He slumped onto her shoulders, and made efforts to lead and indicate the way they were going. Luckily they were pretty much next to it.
