In vast contrast to the huge, extravagant spaceport half a mile or so away, the dive bar that James found himself in that morning was evidently one of the less civilized places on the fancy Core world. The adamant traveler had shown up a little over an hour earlier, lingering around the quiet, run down bar in the hopes of stringing together some work. He'd heard, on the small transport in, that this was one of the nearby places that small time Captains frequented, looking for crew.

So far, the rumour hadn't led to a whole lot.

Two men sat down the bar from James, chatting rarely and downing filthy glass after filthy glass of bourbon. The morning hour didn't seem to worry them - by the drab overalls they wore, one could assume the pair to be dock workers. Not the fancy, trim and proper landing pad scuttlers - no, these two looked like mechanics or engineers from the underground hangers where the tourists didn't lurk.

Besides the pair, the bar was quiet. And for good reason - it was barely 11am.

Idly swabbing through the console screen that was ingrained in the bar before him, James Tucker went once more through the 'currently docked and looking for crew' vessels that were registered with the spaceport. He'd shuffled through the same names all morning, a few coming and going but none taking his fancy. Most were commercial liners only looking for high paying passengers or VIPs.

Something caught his eye, then - the visual of the vessel, nestled down on a landing pad far too large for its size, was stoic at best. Rust, dents, peeling paint. The screen logged the vessel as a small transport ship named Valorous. It's Captain, a man logged as Nicholas Hunter.

And it'd just landed.

James continued to read up on the 'Valorous', he made sure to memorize the name of the ship's Captain and the name of the landing pad that the vessel was docked on before he switched off the console screen. To most people, the bar was a less than desirable place to find yourself, especially on such a civilized planet as Ariel, but to James, it was a haven of sorts, these were the type of places he was used to frequenting, they reminded him of home, a place he rarely got to see these days.

"See-you 'round," James said before he gulped down the remainder of the non-alcoholic drink he had ordered, it wasn't that he didn't drink but James liked to keep sharp and alcohol tended to dull a man's senses. Live was more simpler as you traveled closer to the border planets, but not here, thing's were just complicated.

He stood up from his stool, picked up his leather jacket which he had put on the seat next to him and headed for the exit.

Once he had got outside, he slipped on his jacket and began making his way toward the docking area, he hadn't been here long but he vaguely knew his way around.

Work had been hard to come by recently, ever since he left his parents ranch he'd had no luck in finding a paying job and it wasn't like he was being picky, but work out on the border planets seemed to have dried up, which was why he had come to a place where he was far out of his comfort zone. Hopefully the 'Valorous' and it's captain had a job for him.

Outside the streets are quite busy - only a few vehicles, though pedestrian traffic is heavy in all directions. The city is well awake and operating now, huge office buildings and shopping centers towering over James all around. Small skiffs lined the sky, buzzing this way and that, the indistinct drone of society engulfing anyone who stopped for a moment to observe it.

Very few pay heed to James as he walks by, despite his less than formal attire. Most people here are either dressed formally, for work, or obscurely, keeping up with some crazy recent fashion trends.

Far down this main thoroughfare are the huge towering cement walls of the shipyard and the entrance to the main terminal building.

As he continues on, the feeling of eyes in the back of his skull starts creeping into his thoughts.

As he made his way through the crowd, James noticed that while nobody really paid attention to him, most people made sure to keep their distance. Given that Ariel was a "civilized" world, James' revolver wasn't in it's usual place, in his holster that was attached to his belt, instead he was keeping it tucked into a pocket on the inside of his jacket, it wasn't very comfortable but it was the best place to keep it.

He sighed a relief as he reached the main entrance to the terminal building, he was glad to be getting out of the heavy foot traffic, he wasn't used to that many people and the big crowds, having grown up on one of the border planets.

There was what looked to be a security guard, standing at the entrance to the terminal building, he scanned James with his eyes before looking away, seemingly having lost interest. James took this as a signal he could go inside.

James headed into the building, but stopped at the doorway. He took a moment to look over his shoulder and look around at the huge crowd of people he had just emerged from, he couldn't shake the eerie feeling that somebody was watching him.

He told himself that he was just being paranoid and headed further inside.

The interior of the huge terminal was just as busy and bustling as the streets beyond. There were crowds going in all directions and huge holo-screens high above which showed a mix of commercials and advertisements and information on departing cruise liners and transport ships. The workings of this huge metropolis were all but a mystery to someone who hadn't experienced the chaos of such a large terminal before.

Nearby there was a small terminal for personal use which accessed the flight records of docked ships and directed folk to their landing positions. It only took a few moments for James to gain access and look up the location of his prospective ride of this rock.

As he worked the terminal a small queue formed behind him and, as he was finishing up, a few harsh words were muttered under the breath of the stocky, bald man standing behind him. The man hastily moved up to the console, wrapping his leather jacket tightly to his body, and started tapping away at the screen with an impatience that almost came off as anger.

People were a little different in the Core...

Now with the details of the land pad on hand, James was ready to make his way out. There were a number of small taxi buses that were constantly ferrying passengers around the docks. He'd need to go through an Ident scan checkpoint first, though, and the matter of any weapons on his person was likely going to arise.
