<<Enter Nick Hunter from The Baroness>>

Nick punched the access code and opened the hatch into the cargo bay of his ship, Valorous. He walked across the empty cargo bay, his hand grasping the metal of the railing and pulling himself up the stairs, across the catwalk and up into the hallway. He passed the bunks and his own cabin door, and entered the bridge, and began activating switches for pre-flight.

For a moment, he paused. Sam would need to get the fixes done, the repairs managed, but since they had new found employment, she'd have to make the repairs on the fly while they headed for Ariel. It didn't matter. She could manage. He presumed his pre-flight checks, made sure the ship was ready to depart, refueled from the station, and headed back down to the cargo bay, to await the delivery of the cargo.

He pulled himself onto a spare crate of food, and sat, his boots dangling. The curiosity was eating away at him, he wondered what they would be delivering. Maybe he'd do some investigation once they were on their way.

Africa and Monte retrieved their trunks from the storage locker and followed Samantha to Valorous. Inside she moved them to the side and waited for assignment to quarters and duties.

She took out her PDA and pulled up some Aurora class specs from the CORTEX.

As she studied the basic maintenance and routines Africa remained vigilant to the others.

A short time elapsed before a cargo lifter arrived, escorted by four men in coveralls and porting small firearms. One steps forward and reads a clipboard and then looks the ship over. With a shrug, he looks at Nick and waves the board in one hand. "You Capt'n Hunter? Ship's Valorous? Want'a make sure we got the right one. Got a crate here for shipment. Says it's not to be disturbed. Got a time lock and security code. Once delivered, the lock will deactivate. Sign here." He presents the document for Nick's signature and then turns to two of the others. Waving them forward, they toggle the controls on the lifter and guide it up the cargo ramp and into the bay. Disengaging the lifter, the men move to the exit and hesitate.

Nick slipped off the crate and guided the loader with the crates into position, pointing with his arms. The foreman approached him, and handed him a clipboard.

"That's me, correct. I'll take that, thanks," Nick nodded, peering sideways at the crate. He handed back the signed clipboard, clicking the pen loudly in the nearly-empty cargo bay. "Thanks very much."

He watched the men and the cargo loader head for the door, following them to the hatch.

Sam skipped on to the ship with the crate in her arms. She whistled as she walked, walking towards the engine room. She quickly turned on her heel facing Nick. "Hey, I'm going to go stick this stuff in the engine room, then do you want me to show the new people to their rooms? Or can I get right to installing? Sam had had a lot of social interaction today, and she kind of wanted to go hide in her engine room and set up her hammock, install those parts, she had her own list of things to do before anything else.

Course, Nick was the captain. What he said went. She readjusted her grip on the box as he signed for packages. She smiled a closed lip smile at the other men who brought the items aboard. Her arms started getting sore and she needed an answer. "Or, if you need a snack I can go grab and cook up some rice or something,"

She took a look around the cargo bay and smiled with a deep breath. "We're home. We're actually home. We've got work, we've got passengers, we've got new parts, this is us. This is our life," she said with a smile. "Anyway. What should I do," she asked, finally refocusing.

AFRICA CHAMBERLAIN

Africa rose and moved a few steps as the crate was loaded and the Captain spoke with the longshoremen. As he moved to the exit with them she shadowed him. Samantha asked about tending to the engine room, she waited for instruction as to if she was to get put to work.

The longshoremen seemed to wait a moment, as though there was something else.

Monte watched the loading, a double barrel shotgun nested in his arms. It wasn't likely to be a problem, but you never quite know. He shuffled on his feet, back and forth. Africa was shadowing Nick, and Sam was getting ready to deal with the engines.

She had captured the crate from him just before they got to the ship, and he could understand her desire to dig into her find and play mechanic. After all, it was her job and her discovery.

Soon, they'll be off into the Black and then things will settle down.

Nick sealed the hatch after the men and closed the outer airlock doors. He turned back to his crew in the cargo bay.

"Y'all need some quarters. Sam is in room two, you both can have rooms three and four. My quarters are in the bow, under the bridge. Go on up, you'll find the rooms are quaint enough, not a lot of window, but the little porthole is probably enough."

He pointed up through the ship, up the staircase toward the inner areas.

"Feel free to have a look around, best you get to know this place inside and out. Check out the mess, infirmary and the like, but best be hopin' you don't need to know the infirmary." He pointed to Sam.

"You, come with me." He turned and slid open the door to the shuttle bay, crossed the launch deck, squeezed past the Aeneas and through the opposite door, the armory. He waved that his sister follow.

Sam watched as Nick gave his little speech, and as per usual, she got room two. She liked room two. It was her room. Always had been, probably always would be. He was in captain mode now though, and that meant she had to be in first officer mode. She nodded along, shifting the box in her arms a few times, before nick spoke directly to her.

"Well, okay," she said, not really understanding why she had to go to the armory. She didn't like the armory. She didn't like guns. She was a pacifist. Sam gave the other crew members a smile and a nod as she turned to follow. Her arms were getting tired from holding the box, but she carried on anyway. "What's up?" Sam asked as they walked through the halls.

In the cargo hold there was a loud crash, a metal crate that was not there before had tipped over and fell to the plating on the floor. The lid was now slightly bent to the side and with some force you could remove it in time. The metal container was long almost 6 feet with a decent amount of width. It almost resembled a coffin. This particular container was not listed on any port documentation. Upon closer inspection there was a strange symbol of a circle with stars and the words 'BIOTECH CORP' engraved in the symbol.

Nick opened the weapons locker with the numeric combination. He reached in and withdrew a revolver, six shot, and clicked out the magazine spun it once, verified it was loaded, and clicked it shut. He slid the safety on, and handed it, handle first toward his sister.

"I've suddenly realized that you don't have any real weapons on you. That buck knife isn't going to do you any good in a gunfight. Take this." He shook it slightly, noticing her aghast look.

"I'm not asking you to have two of them like me," he said, shaking his hips slightly, so the holstered pistols nudged his legs.

"...but you need something. I ain't discussing this."

He pushed it into Sam's hand and locked the armory locker door. He shoved past her and back into the cargo bay.

Monte threw his pack into the #5 cabin and checked his double sling shoulder holsters, with loaded automatics. Slipping his thumbs into his suspenders, he grinned and strutted around the small cabin, feeling pretty good about his status on the ship, and with Africa. Seemed they were hitting it off pretty well and his thoughts wandered to the potential for more fun in the slowness of interplanetary travels.

He noticed Nick heading toward the cargo bay and decided to follow

Probably just checking things out, but I'll tag along to show my intention at doing my job.

Sam watched as her brother unlocked the weapon locker and took out a gun, checking the magizene and then handing it to her. "No, I-" she started, but her brother wasn't having it. He handed it to her with a no nonsense glare. She was a mechanic. She didn't want this, this was a deadly object. This was something that she didn't want to hold, to carry, to protect herself with.

But, before she could add anything to the conversation, he walked out and a crash sounded through the hall. "Na shi shenme?" She asked to no one in particular as she put the box down and jogged to the cargo hold, to find the box slightly bent. "Captain," she said into the wall comm unit. "You might want to come down to the cargo hold. I think we may have a situation on our hands,"

Nick and Monte arrived about the same time, followed shortly by Sam. The strange container lay half on its side, the lid cracked open and steam seeping out. Monte shook his head slowly. "Where the gorram go se did that come from?"

There was a dial on the side of the crate that seemed to be used to fully depressurize the lid so it can slide off easily.

AFRICA CHAMBERLAIN

Africa arrived just after the others. She looked at the crate from a distance, then slowly walk a large circle around the crate and the others. 'why did a crate that they were not aware of fall open?'

She stopped opposite of Monte, gave him a quick look. Her position allowed them to see behind the other. And her position allowed her to see and hear, not just the cargo deck but through a door to the rest of the ship.

"What the tyen shiao duh..." Nick said, entering the cargo bay from the shuttle bay, and looking down on the box, the stamped logo, the odd shape of it. He went to the wall console, scanned the short list of cargo manifest. It wasn't listed.

"This must've come in with the cargo." Nick said, walking around the box, noticing the pressure seal control, and pointed to the release switch.

"See that there? That's a pressure release dial, we open it, we can't close it again. One of you mech heads want to verify that for me?" He said, stepping back, putting his hand on his mouth.

He wasn't sure what to do. On one hand, if he opened this, he was in definite violation of the terms of business. On the other, that could be some kind of hazard to his crew, to his ship. He squatted low to look at the edges of the container.

Sam took 'Mech-Head' to mean her, so she piped up. "Well, in any other situation, given a few hours, I could probably re-depressurize it, but see how it's bent a little?" She explained with a point. "That's what makes it a whole different ball game. It's not exactly easy depressurizing something that isn't a completely sealed box. So, if neccisary, maybe. Maybe I could re-depressurize it, I would have to first get that dent out, check for any other pressure leaks, and with the pressure pump I have to work with, well, the suction isn't too great," Sam babbled, before noticing her brother's icy glare.

"Long story short, about a 30% chance i would be capable of redepressurizing it," she said, before quieting down and folding her arms. Biotech. A combination of Biology and Technology- never a good mix in her mind, and there was probably nothing good in that box. However, it was Nick's decision on what to do. She'd follow along.

Monte walked around the box and shook his head.

"We have one legit cargo with a timer lock on it, and now an uncharted one with a pressure seal. My suggestion is we push this one " he tapped it with his toe " out the airlock. Since it's unregistered, it's none of our concern."

Africa wasn't certain about the risks of opening, leaving alone or spacing the pressurized storage container.

But there was one concern she had. "Aren't these containers used for suspended transport of live cargo... couldn't someone be inside?" She looked around. The Airlock would be the safest place, someone in a vacc suit tethered. If it's dangersould it could be ejected."
