Abe was roaming the hallways aimlessly, thinking about the last few days. She had taken to walking the ship with Ian and while doing that they had talked about numerous things. They were like mini dates where they were getting to know each other all over again.

Then she grinned.

They had also been getting to know all the nooks and crannies on the ship. Places to grab a little bit of privacy without heading back to either one of their bunks. God, that man could kiss. They were holding back on doing anything else, but his kisses and his embrace? That was enough for now. It had to be. It would be so easy to give in to their growing attachment and fall back into the intense passion they shared before.

But going slow would be better.

She stopped as she heard the faint alarm of Ian's PDA sound. As she listened, she was able to isolate where it was coming from and jogged that way, just in time to see Ian and Bosch come out of the gym. Bosch had her weapons out. She jogged up to Ian's side.

"What's up?" she asked, slipping into work mode. "We have trouble?"

Jasper Daltry had been heading for the gym on the upper deck, he stopped as Bosch and Ian came out, about to head down the stair. He heard the last of the conversation, including about the comm signal.

Then Abe came up the stairs, Bosch had a gun and a knife out.

Daltry stepped to the side looking unsure what was going on.

"Uhm. I turned off that comm signal just a minute ago. Sylandra and Beth were there, I figured they'd handled it." He looked nervous about how he had handled it, or maybe the two dangerous women facing each other with the third corner of a bizarre triangle/Dugan right there.

Of maybe that he'd sort of ratted out Syl and Beth...

He gave his innocent smile with a shrug. "I was about to do some yoga, you need me somewhere else boss?"

Just then a signal went off on the bridge and Ian's PDA.

Quote:

"Glory, Glory, this is Biff Calhoon identification Moon Dog - One. I know I left you all without even a word. I get it but I had some things to do and Cole left acting really strange. Anyway I lost Cole's trail and I was on my way back to you. To home. Seems though that I ran into yet another speed bump and my ship has crashed. I am alright for now but my leg is injured and I'm banged up pretty good. I seem to be out of booze too. If you can please help Glory. Coordinates to my crash sight are uploading following this message."

=========

On the bridge the crew would discover that their mission would need to be delayed.

Data and scanning again showing their approach to Bellerophon blocked:
Quote:

Admiral Barrabas of Alliance Naval Command has hereby called all reservists to active duty. All Core worlds remain on a heighted state of alert after last weeks terrorist attacks. Admiral Barabas with the full vested authority given to him by Prime Minister Xiu-Chan Lee has declared Martial Law in all Core Space. Alliance patrols are authorized to stop any vessel attempting to enter or leave any part of Core Space with or without cause. Failure to comply with an order to stop will result in your ship being seized and all parties on board will be designated as terrorists and traitors against the Allied worlds and be brought before a military tribunal for judgement.

They could, if they so desired continue on to Deadwood.

Ian was about to answer Abe when Jasper arrived. Once he told them about turning off the comm indicator Ian's PDA went off with an alert.

He read the message.

"Biff ..."

At first there was a smile, then a frown. He had just read his code phrase for trouble. 'Moondog one' meant "under duress" It was the one he had come up with for his crew, just in case. Someone had forced Biff to send that message. One of his crew ... his family ... was in trouble, but so was the Alliance itself. He had meant what he said before. There were no Purplebellies or Browncoats. There was just the 'Verse and it was up to him and his to save what they could.

"We got trouble all around. I need a full systems check to see if we have an automated beacon or if someone on this crew is a traitor. Or if we have a stowaway who is,

He paused, looked at each of them.

"Round everybody up, meet in the galley, I need all hands."

Then he read about the Admiral

Things sure went south in a hurry

A scan of the ship would reveal that there is a strong signal coming from the locker rooms.

Inside her cabin, talking with Sylandra, Beth was completely unaware of the events that would cut their private time short.

The cabin door was locked and with the privacy bolt pushed home so that it couldn't be opened from the outside, even if the electronically controlled latch was released. It wasn't because what they were doing was wrong in any sense, they were, after all, just talking but Beth had felt the need to shut the outside world out.

And neither was Sylandra. Unless someone got on the ships' intercom, both women would be ignorant of the other goings on, and Syl would be concerned when she found her navigation plot changed.

The corridor was getting too gorramn busy. She glanced over at Ian and Dude was in her hand at her side already.

Ian's PDA alarm sounded and he read it quickly.

"Biff ..."

He had a smile on his face, but it quickly dissipated. She was about to ask about the message, but he spoke.

"We got trouble all around. I need a full systems check to see if we have an automated beacon or if someone on this crew is a traitor. Or if we have a stowaway who is," "Round everybody up, meet in the galley, I need all hands."

"I'm stayin' with ya'. Whether it be a traitor or a stowaway, yer in danger," Abe whispered to him. "I ain't takin' no for an answer, so don't even try to object."

Then he continued to read and his expression seemed to worry a bit more.

Things were way to gorramn interesting now. She didn't like that on her home ship and she sure as Hell didn't like it that the danger was so close. Ian was important to the resistance and if she had to, she would take a bullet for him. After all, he was also her man.

Mike had left the engine room. He rounded a corner to find a unscheduled gathering between a captain, a gunhand, a mechanic and a schizophrenic machine. That stopped him in his tracks.

"What's going on?" He looked at Bosch 'geared up' and at Ian and Abe's expressions. "There's a thing isn't there? What's the thing?"

Bosch waited for the Captain and his little shadow gunbunny to head to the galley for the meet. She seemed amused at Abe, her gun out too. It seemed funny to her until she realized she still had her's out. She put away her pistol and knife as though there was no real need for them. Yet.

Jasper Daltry headed straight to the galley. He poured a half a cup of coffee and filled the rest from a flask he nearly always carried. Daltry took a seat and put his feet up on a chair.

Ian stole a glance at Bosch after Abe had whispered to him. It said ' What am I gonna do with her.'

from Becker

"What's going on? ... There's a thing isn't there? What's the thing?"

"When isn't there a thing. Biff's in a trap, we have a sabatour or a stowaway, or both. Meet in the Galley."

He spoke as he walked

"Call out on the shi's All Comm. I need every one there. Reese, Dom, Jack and Jamie, Sly Beth and all. Meet us there, or call from there."

By the time he had finished speaking he too was outside the galley. It wasn't that big of a ship afterall.

Jack and Jamie both arrived and at the Galley around the same time after hearing Ian's request over the intercom. "Whats going on?" Jamie looked over to Ian.

Sylandra and Beth heard the comm call and came out of Beth's cabin, following the others to the galley.

"Wha's up?" Syl tightened the gun belt and checked the draw on her massive pistol.

During the time it took folk to arrive Ian had his PDA set up to scan for the signal. It was located in the Ship's locker Rooms.

"we have a moving transmission on board. It could be Gizmo, but I doubt it. So, it must be the source of our current problems. It is located in the Locker Room on the Port side, aft. Bosch, go round back and come from the back of the ship. I'll be coming in from the front.'

"The rest, get ready to kick some Pi-Gu. I want Mike, Jack and Jamie to back up Bosch, Abe, Jasper and Dom will back me up. Reese, set up for a hard burn. Syl, plot a course to Deadwood. Beth, prep the Med bay. We may need your expertise."

He began to move, not waiting to see that his crew did as he had asked and knowing they would.

He loved his crew.

Even Bosch

Maybe even Jasper.

Upon entering the locker rooms, Ian was able to ping his PDA against the signal and determined it was coming from one of the lockers. It was between 3 lockers. It was either Jaspers, Doms or Khei's old locker.

They were almost immediately joined by Becker as the group started to pool as they moved towards the Galley.

She caught Ian giving Bosch the look that communicated that he was either annoyed by the fact that she was protecting him or was embarrassed or making fun of the fact that she took it seriously. She was a little hurt, but that wouldn't stop her from doing what she needed to in order to make sure Ian kept walking and talking. Sure, she knew he could take care of himself, but with times like this - especially times like this - things could go pear shaped all too quickly.

Out of the corner of her eye, Abe caught the look that Bosch gave her because of that whole thing. Abe was a little annoyed, like she was getting the vibe that Bosch thought she was a little reactionary. Then she was amused by the fact that Bosch seemed startled that she still had her gun out and quickly put it away.

Abe didn't. If there was a traitor aboard, none of them were safe.

The whole ship got the call to meet in the Galley and everyone showed up, wondering why they had been called. As they assembled, Abe stood back from the crowd, studying each and every person there. She was looking for the odd expression or facial tic or whatever it was that raised her hackles. Her instincts were pretty good most of the time.

"we have a moving transmission on board. It could be Gizmo, but I doubt it. So, it must be the source of our current problems. It is located in the Locker Room on the Port side, aft. Bosch, go round back and come from the back of the ship. I'll be coming in from the front.'

Like Hell he was going in from the front, she thought.

Like Hell she was going back him up too, she thought. She should be going in first to clear the way.

But he didn't give her a chance and moved quickly straight into the locker room. She shot him a look that said we will talk about this later. She didn't know if he saw her, but she was hopping mad.

Ian narrowed the area down to three lockers. She knew who they belonged to - well two of them actually - and she really hoped it was something planted in the empty one.

"Might be that I'm naturally paranoid, but what chance is there that the person that placed the signal in here might have it booby trapped as well?" Abe asked as she motioned to Jasper and Dom to stay together so she could watch them.

She really, really hoped it wasn't Dom. She liked him. She wasn't sure about Jasper. She hadn't been able to spend any time with him. She could tell he has his secrets though, but then again, didn't all of them?

Beth followed Sylandra to the galley and found a quiet corner. Her head was still spinning from the ease with which she had started to share her past with the pilot. With her thoughts focused on what had been said and what had not by both she and Sylandra, Beth really didn't get to grips with what was going on.

"Yes Sir," she acknowledged quietly when Ian ordered her to the medbay and prepare for potential casualties. She immediately slipped away, passing the medbay and entering briefly before returning to her assigned post.

There was nothing to do except check the stock levels in the first aid cabinet which she kept unlocked for anyone to use and to release the locks on all of the rest of the cabinets, the ones that contained the prescription medicines, surgical supplies and all the rest of the paraphernalia that was stock in trade for a GP and a surgeon but which in the wrong hands could cause all sorts of trouble. The only other thing to do was turn on the steriliser to make sure the reusable items were ready for use.

Two minutes after entering Beth was, as she had expected, ready and at a loose end and it was then the reason for the detour to her cabin became apparent. She sat on one of the two chairs in the infirmary and opened the flat thin back she had brought with her from the cabin and drew out a bamboo hoop with fabric drawn smoothly across it, a sheet of paper with little crosses, dots and other symbols on it, a blunt needle and some skeins of thread of various colours and hues. Drawing a couple of strands from one of the skeins, she threaded it through the eye of the needle, referred to the piece of paper, carefully counted across from a point on the cloth and inserted the needle from the back of the fabric. She drew the thread almost all the way through and then pushed the needle back again before repeating the process, each loop capturing the tail of the thread on the back of the fabric until there were sufficient loops holding it from sliding through and then focused her attention between the paper and the fabric.

It was as good a way as any to keep her conscious thoughts away from both the conversation she had had with Sylandra and the prospect of having to deal with traumatic injuries. In particular it kept her from thinking about how she would react to the blood that would accompany such an injury.

Ian had caught the vibe off Abe and knew she was getting upset. The color in her face was also a tale-tail sign. The blush of anger was redder than embarrassment but, still, the color looked good on her. Ian knew from experience that the punches that would soon follow would feel so good so he got what fun he could have now. Pay day was comin soon.

He followed the signal to the locker room and with his PDA in one hand and Ryder in the other, he stepped into the room and moved quickly to the left, both eyes open and alert for trouble. The move made it easy for Abe, Dom and Jasper to enter. It also made him less of a target, not being outlined by the doorway

Once he ascertained there would be no bullets flying his way, he checked the PDA and followed it to the three lockers. Jasper, Dom and Khei. Abe motioned them to come closer together. Ian admired her professionalism but knew it wasn't Dom. If Dom was gonna do something like that, he'd take over the ship first

Jasper was with them when the signal moved...

So Ian went for Khei's locker until abe's voice stopped him.

"Might be that I'm naturally paranoid, but what chance is there that the person that placed the signal in here might have it booby trapped as well?

"Might not be a bad idea."

He looked aft, toward the back of the locker room.

"Bosch. How fast are you at dodging shrapnel? Is your armor strong enough?"

Bosch moved to the locker.

She waited a moment, "Don't seem likely to me. Secret transmission and sabotage don't go together."

Bosch opened the locker with seeming indifference to the result, except of course, she did stand out of the way. And did it with the speed of a card sharp shifting a card around in a deck.

Sylandra threw a casual salute to Ian before turning fast on her heal and heading into the bridge. As she entered the bridge, she paused to lock down the entrance hatch. "If we're 'n trouble, best I be locked down."

She slid into the center seat, deactivated the auto pilot, and brought up the nav-comp display. As she shook her head dismissing her previous plot, she tapped out the new destination to Deadwood. It would be a long journey, up over the top of Core worlds, and a long burn toward the Blue Sun out on the far edge of the 'Verse.

"Here's hopin' we still make time for the main event. If the Purplebellies get their Cortex replacement in before we can blow it... we're all gonna be tanked." She grumbled to no one in particular.
