Sylandra accepted Beth into her protection as she wrapped her arms around the smaller woman. For a moment, she was caught between feelings as she realized that she had opened herself up to someone she really didn't know that well. Her guard had fallen away so easily. She stood there, holding Beth close and a warm glow spread through her. Something like but yet unlike anything she had felt for someone else. It had been close with Siobhan; sisterly, but this was something more. A tear pushed its way out of Syl's eye, trickled down her cheek. Lost Memories Her hand reached up to touch Beth's cheek, to brush away the tears there as well. And to touch the softness of her hair. |

Beth had hoped for a little comfort; she had expected an empty hug; instead she got much more, a warm embrace that made her feel safe. Suddenly the plans she had been laying seemed like a foolishness best forgotten and for that alone she was grateful. Slowly her sobs subsided and the flow of her tears slowed and then stopped. She held something back though, not knowing this woman who held her, uncertain of her intentions. It was the soft brush of fingers on her cheek, the gentle touch on her hair and a sensation reminiscent of the splash of a tear on her head that broke through. Only then did Beth slipped her arms around Sylandra's waist and apply a gentle pressure of her own. Beth looked up at Sylandra's face and saw the track of the tear down her cheek. It seemed unfair that she not return Sylandra's kindness but not willing to release Sylandra, Beth reached up and kissed her cheek softly where the tear had run down it.

A Reaver's Nightmare
|
They all gathered and the Captain began a spiel which finally gave Dom the answers he had been looking for from him. He wasn't sure however if he was glad to know, sometimes being lost in the woods was the better option. This was some party Ian was throwing, more crew than he'd seen him run with in a long time. Dugan usually ran as small as possible, less potential casualties and more money to spread but this was big. This was war. The extra bodies were necessary and some likely there for contingency, with the crack shots he had running with him such as Abe and Becker taking on a used up war vet was redundant. Not everyone was going to walk away from this. Dom felt his hand fingering the bullet still in his pocket, wondering if another bullet had his name on it. He did not speak through out the speech but took mental notes of everything, even scratching a few physical notes down on a crumpled piece of paper. He began to analyze the teams Dugan had put together. Seemed a little odd to have three of the best shots in one team. Becker wasn't wrong in the choice of words. This was indeed going to be heavy and Dom could almost hear the chains move as they started to be pulled to the top of the roller coaster. A bomb squad was a new addition to Ian's repertoire which only reinforced how much in the deep go-se they were with this. The only time Dom thought to speak up was when he mentioned Khei their old cortex jockey. It was true few could match Khei but there was someone on the crew who had made their living in recent years with that kind of work. Dom looked over to Reese, looking as pale and frail as he'd ever seen her but with a look on her face that conveyed the big chip on her shoulder. She hadn't spoken a word to anyone since convening here and stood arms folded near the exit, likely so she could dip the second the opportunity was present. She must have felt his eyes burning into her as she turned her eyes to him. They certainly could use what she had to offer but Dom didn't have all of the details on what she'd done, she wouldn't tell him. He just knew enough that if ever the feds caught her they'd have a noose waiting for her scarred neck. As unpleasant as she had become Dom had a hard time not feeling for her, she didn't deserve what life had thrown her way not many people did he supposed. She clearly hadn't told Dugan what she'd been up to so Dom opted to leave it in her hands. The exchanged look hopefully conveyed that he would keep her secret but if she was ever going to do the right thing again Dugan would need her help. With the meeting convened Doyle approached Ian, pensive look and furrowed brow in play. "You know Dugan. If you had come at me like we're goin' at them you might not have got the drop on me. I don't recall you lobbin' 'nades at me." He spoke in a joking tone but there was an underlying question being asked. Are you sure you know what you're doing? |

A few days passed. Sylandra found the the scans of any direct route to Bellerphon would likely meet with a lot of Alliance or Underground contact. Corporate ships seemed to be fighting as warship, it was difficult to tell who would attack them and who would run from them. CHAOS There was only one way to avoid contact and that was to take a long trip out toward the Blue Sun System and come back toward Bellorphon, the planet being on that side of the Core. ... Bosch took to the training room on the upper deck. She spoke when spoken to, but didn't interact much unless someone approached her, then she was friendly. Jasper Daltry was more so, willing to talk with the ladies; but careful to not get to forward, unless he met with more than a little friendlyness. Edited by Tojoyama, Dec 29 2014, 11:45 AM.

Everyone knew the objective, and everyone knew what try were doing, and for the most part all bases were covered. Mike found himself interested in the newer members of the crew. Abbey had come off well, she fit right in with what Mike was accustomed to and there no issues in sharing the ship with her. Beth had had her issues, but others were starting to step in and offer aid which made Mike sure that she had gained enough support to cope with being aboard Glory. Mike's biggest concern was Jasper, if only for the fact that he didn't know him and they were about to collaborate on an important mission. Becker had found Jasper at his work station, and shared some wasteful small talk before getting down to the important matters. "So what kind of combat experience do you have?" |

Sylandra studied the nav comp's proposed flight plan toward Bellerphon and considered the potential traffic around that planet as well as flooding the system with combat units. She typed in a variety of solutions before accepting one that presented the least amount of contact yet brought them into a tight orbit around the planet. "We're goin' t' spin out t'ward the edge o' the system, then swing 'round Lux, usin' its gravity well t' toss us up int'a hyperbolic arc. We'll shut down engines, goin' dark. The arc'll throw us up over the planetary plane 'n' then back into the system right next t' Bellerphon. We can kick in the heaters 'n' go stationary at our objective." she explained to whoever was in the bridge with her. |

JASPER DALTRY "Grunt." said Daltry. One look at Becker told him that wasn't hardly the only answer expected. He filled him in on his boring time with the combat infantry. Yes, there had been combat, but it hadn't been the stuff of vid legend. "Mostly stayin' low and keepin' your face in the mud. I fired my weapon plenty, but as to I ever hit anythin' by bullet or grenade, I couldn't say. I suppose I just about had to, much of it as there was." ============== GLORY Bridge - It was the tiniest of signals, too short to decode. But it had come from Glory, though the simple diagnostic didn't say from where in Glory. |

They had remained in the embrace for only a few minutes, not through Beth's choice but someone had come on to the bridge and she hadn't wanted to cause Sylandra any embarrassment so she had quietly disengaged. "Thank you, Sylandra," she said softly as she withdrew her arms, the sincerity in her tone unmistakable. She had no doubt that Sylandra had just saved her life and, in the process, given her hope, albeit as yet a tiny flicker, vulnerable, easily extinguished but if nurtured, something that could become more enduring. She had remained where she was, turning back to look out at the stars. She saw them again, her thoughts for the moment stilled as she allowed the beauty of the stars to complete what Sylandra had begun. Eventually she slipped away to her cabin and, exhausted by her experience, fell into her bunk and fell into a deep, long sleep. ~~~ Several days later ~~~ Beth was on the bridge when Sylandra outlined their approach plan. She had been spending a lot of time there, when Sylandra was on watch, keeping the pilot company but talking only when had something to say, which was seldom. Looking forward, watching the stars through the viewport, she had the chance to think things through, both the old history and the more recent. Some things she couldn't reconcile and felt that she never would but now that that little hope had been kindled she no longer felt a strong need to. They had happened and nothing could change that. She released that even the blame for April's death, seen now a little more objectively, was not Beth's alone to carry. She would never forget and knew that she would never be able to entirely forgive herself but she could, perhaps, prevent it from consuming her. Ian was more problematic, being still present and with her feelings for him unresolved with the situation further complicated by the moment she had shared with Sylandra. Beth was good at denial but even she couldn't deny that she had felt something when Sylandra had been holding her, something that even April had't brought out in her. If she hadn't also felt something for Ian, she might have been able to bring herself to accept that she was gay. Accepting that she might be bisexual was a harder ask. Her orientation was still not a question she had formally or consciously put to herself but it was something that her subconscious mind knew was going to have to be addressed sooner rather than later. Sylandra's statement brought Beth out of her musings. "I think I understood some of the words, Sylandra," Beth responded with a little, self-deprecating, laugh. "But was it actually English?"

Sylandra grinned at Beth's comment. "It's how I talk. Lot's a back world chatter makes for a bit 'o a thang. Or maybe meant my technobabble? Ha. Comes 'n' goes at times. Family..." She bit her tongue and her face went white. " trampers. Had a small mid bulk out'a Three Trees. Got hijack durin' the War. Guess I grew up wi' it and just never got it out o' m' system." |

If it had been anyone else, Beth might have missed it but she noticed Sylandra's face pale and it clued her into the rest of the body language that suggested the surfacing of a painful memory. While Sylandra completed her explanation, Beth moved quietly up beside the pilot and laid a hand gently on her shoulder. "Are you okay, Sylandra?" she asked, her tone concerned. Then, remembering what Sylandra had said to her a few days earlier she added, "If you ever want to talk .... " Beth realised that her hand was still on Sylandra's shoulder; she knew she should probably do something about that but she couldn't bring herself to remove it.

Sylandra looked back at the Navcomp and punched in the course she figured would avoid most of the contact, and yet deliver them covertly to their destination, or at least to a close orbit nearby. Flipping the requisite switches, she put the ship into auto, figuring they had days before actually running into any contact. "We've some time t' kill. What say we get's better acquain'ed. I'll tell yo' mine if yo' tell me yours. Looks like t' boys aren't all that anxious t' keep us entertained." |

"I'd like that," Beth said shyly. Her hand had slipped from Sylandra's shoulder as the pilot made the navcomp entries but she hadn't moved from Sylandra's side. She looked around at the expanse of the bridge and decided that she would prefer somewhere they could talk without being interrupted. She liked the bridge, liked the view but it was a public place and the view, she felt, might be distraction. "And the main reason you like the bridge, Bethany?" She didn't need to look at Sylandra to answer that question but she did anyway. "Perhaps somewhere a little more private?" she suggested and then not really understanding what Sylandra had done with the controls, added, "If it is okay for you to leave the bridge."

Beth just made her last comment as Jasper Daltry, the mechanic to the engineer Reese Foster came onto the bridge. "Oh hey Ladies." He looked a little tired as he walked in, but seemed to force some refresh to his face at the women on the bridge. "uh engineer Foster's got it in mind to run some checks on the console back ups." truth be told it was some standard maintenance he was trying to catch up on. The ship never seemed to tire of listing preventive maintenance and spare parts check and diagnostics. Daltry gave the a simple little charming almost schoolboy smile, like he sensed something; but seemed to fall back on his natural good looks, yet not quite sure just what he was sensing. A little bit of a simpleton maybe, sincere even? Or just naturally like a fox, smiling a little too pleasant while thinking of dinner. ![]() Jasper looked back and forth between Beth and Sylandra. He'd talked to them some, tried to flirt just a little. He'd not seen any interest, but still; he was here on official duty. Maybe a little dedication and devotion to service might impress. Nothing else seemed too. (( OOC . sorry, just thought I'd flop a bump in the road)) |

Sylandra smiled simply and waved at the console. "Be m' guest. I've set the course 'n' put 'er on auto. Was just goin' for a break with Beth. Girl time, y'see." It seemed this new man had an over abundance of confidence. Not something that was attractive to Syl, but to some it might come across as strength. A brief memory of another flashed in her thoughts. His name brought back too many memories. A trigger that she would rather avoid. Still, he was one of the few unattached males in the crew. And had a certain cuteness to him. She smiled again as she ducked through the hatchway, hoping Beth would be right behind her. |

Jasper said: "Oh hey Ladies." Beth jumped in surprise and turned pale when she heard his voice. Jasper's attempts to flirt with Beth hadn't elicited any particular memories but they had made her feel uncomfortable. It wasn't necessarily Jasper's fault; she had never been the target of flirting and had no idea how to handle it. Her response, when she recognised it, was invariably flustered retreat and when she had prior warning of his presence, her strategy was avoidance. She wished she could be as unruffled about it as Sylandra. As a result, Beth wasn't just following Sylandra, she was hot on her heels and her glance at Jasper did not include a smile but more the look of a frightened, hunted rabbit. "My cabin?" Beth suggested breathlessly as she passed through the hatch; the prospect of using Sylandra's cabin and thus being right next to the bridge and thus Jasper rather unappealing. "Or perhaps further afield? One of the passenger cabins?" Even her own cabin seemed too close to the rest of the crew. "Now you're just being silly, Bethany," she told herself and let Sylandra lead her wherever the pilot chose.

Jasper watched the two women leave, then looked out to the black. The tiny light indicating a transmission had left Glory was still on. He approached the console, looked over his shoulder, shrugged; then turned back around and turned the indicator light off. He then left the bridge and headed to the upper deck. |

"I hear that's the way to do it," said Mike to Jasper's 'face in the mud' description. He was glad to be away from that war. Though they weren't far off's start of a new one. "So if we hit the fan you can handle it. Hopefully it won't get that far but it's good to know. If you don't strap a gun these days, let me know and you can visit the armory." Soon enough, Jasper found himself with something to do and made for the bridge. Mike was left alone in the engine room, the engine of Glory relentlessly humming in front of him. With no pressing duty, Mike lent back against the wall he had been standing by. His head dropped back against the wall too so that he was looking up, and the closed his eyes to listen to the hum of the engine. |

The week before Ian had said his peice and waited til the others left. He wanted to spend some time with Abe but wasn't sure if he should or really could. At least not like he wanted to. As he had spoken he had looked around the room. It had not excaped him that Reese had not spoken at all He still remembered the slap that was heard 'round the 'Verse from when he had kissed her ... only once ..... Still, she was a friend and family, he would have to talk to her, sometime. Dom had made his way to him by that time.
Ian knew the tone and the underlying question being asked. Are you sure you know what you're doing? Ian smiled his crooked smile "Dom, I'm more like you in these things. The Point and shoot type. I have more of the big picture than I'm comfortable with." He paused. "It makes us dangerous." Once more. "Yeah, I know what I'm doing. More now than that day in the Trenched near Hablong on Verbena. I truly am sorry about that." Old memories surfaced of that day. The day he had killed the man in front of him. Days later He was roving the ship as was his want in the Black. Ghost and Ryder still rode his hips, though his Duster was on the Bridge, tucked behind the Crash Seat. As time found him, he was near the upper deck by where Sonya had set up her gym. He heard the grunts of exercise and arrived as Bosch was finishing up whatever she was finishing up. "Hey Bosch. How's tricks." He paused and added "Just what do i call you, anyway. Which do you prefer, Bosch or Ryobi?" His pda went off and he looked at a message from the automated systems. It had detected a comm signal. The signal lasted a short time. "Just a second." He moved to the comm unit on the wall in the hall and activated it. "Bridge, what do you know of a comm signal that just happened?" He had just missed the ladies as they left the bridge. When no answer came to his liking he turned back top Bosch. "Gear up. We may have a saboteur." |

Dugan, "Hey Bosch. How's tricks." He paused and added "Just what do i call you, anyway. Which do you prefer, Bosch or Ryobi?" "Tricks are good. And I'm both." There was a rare look of slight confusion on her face which quickly disappeared. "But you know me as Bosch, that's good." Then the look on her face was that same sex machine nympho from long ago. Bosch moved close to him, her hand lingered near his groin. "So.. just to be sure Ian, I'm never going to get my hands on this?" She backed away, already knowing the answer. Then a mischievous smile grew on her lips. Same old Bosch, shifting emotions. Psycho killer, lover, friend, Glory family. The shifts seem to move through her without her ability to control them. That, or she was truly gifted in the art of what she projected. Ian's pda went off and he looked at a message from the automated systems. It had detected a comm signal. The signal lasted a short time. "Just a second." He moved to the comm unit on the wall in the hall and activated it. "Bridge, what do you know of a comm signal that just happened?" He had entered the work out area and watched Bosch finish her routine, then spoke "Hey Bosch. How's tricks." She had answered him without being out of breath. Unsure of himself and her he paused for a beat and spoke added. "Just what do i call you, anyway. Which do you prefer, Bosch or Ryobi?" "Tricks are good. ... And I'm both." He saw what he thought was a rare look of confusion on her face but that which quickly vanished like it had never been there. She continued to speak after a moment. "But you know me as Bosch, that's good." Then Ian saw the look on her face was that of the same sex machine nympho from long ago. Then, in the blink of an eye, Bosch covered the distance between them and moved in close. Ian stood still as he leaned against the door jam and had his legs crosses, one ankle over the other, one foot flat on the deck and the other toe down. She still moved like a Corba, Ian thought, but, for some reason, he was not afraid. She had stopped next to him and her hand lingered near his groin. "So.. just to be sure Ian, I'm never going to get my hands on this?" She backed away, already knowing the answer. Ian looked into her eyes and calculated angles and answers. What he wanted to say was 'I'm in a commited relationship...' What he said was something a little different "Never say never." Then a mischievous smile grew on her lips. Ian saw again the same old Bosch even with the shifting emotions. Psycho killer, lover, friend, Glory family. To Ian the shifts seemed to move through her without her ability to control them. That, or she was as gifted in the art of what she projected as Ian thought she was. His PDA bleeped an alarm tril and he looked at the message from an automated program he had created to relay Ship's information to him. It had detected a comm signal that lasted a short time. It had come from Glory. It was Mindcrime all over again. Ian would not let that happen. "Just a second." He spoke as he moved to the comm unit on the wall in the hall and activated it. "Bridge, what do you know of a comm signal that just happened?" No answer came. Not surprising in the least. Not with Auto-pilot programs and such. So it was without a sense of imminent danger that he turned to Bosch. "Gear up. We may have a saboteur." From under the loose robe she wore around her tight catsuit she produced a pistol and a knife. "I'm always geared up Ian." Ian then did something that even surprised himself. He took a step toward Bosch and reached out a hand, cupping the side of her face. "I really am glad you're with us." For just a moment, there was something in the look. Something real. Like maybe he meant it and that the something could even develop into something more. He dropped his hand and moved off, hoping to run into Abe. He really needed her help now. His hand was still warm where he had held it against Bosch's face. |
