Abe was lost a little watching Ian heading towards the bridge that she was only half conscious of the fact that Beth had approached. "Perhaps that is something I could do, Abe" "Hmmm?" she said absently until she shook her head and slowly turned her attention to their new doctor. "There seems little enough else for me to do. There are only so many times one can check the medical supplies before losing all touch with sanity," "Oh! You're talkin' about the cookin'?" she said with a laugh. "Sorry, I was mighty distracted for a moment." And boy howdy, she was. She had to remind herself of her and Ian's vow to do this right this time. "So you'd like ta do the cookin' regular like? That's just shiny by me," she told her with a genuine smile. "I know how ta cook just fine, but it's not exactly somethin' I'd want ta do every day." Oh yeah... So not doing that. It just wasn't in her make-up. She was a gun-hand and unless some pancakes or protein needs to be swiss cheesed on a regular basis, she wasn't really interested on anything long term. She'd rather cook on her own terms. "I don't think anyone has volunteered for the position, but ya definitely have my vote. The kitchen is yours," she laughed. She was glad that the woman wanted to do something like this. She seemed a little lost, puttering away in the Med Bay. Abe got a dead serious look on her face then. "Ya do cook well though, right?" She waited a beat and the grin returned. "Just kidding. I'm sure you'll do well. I'm glad ya volunteered." |

Abe said: "Ya do cook well though, right?" It was a fair question and for a moment Beth took Abe seriously until the other woman smiled and admitted to her comment being made in jest. Beth wasn't about to let her get of scot-free though and didn't return the smile, instead, keeping the same serious expression on her own face and frowning a little more. "I like to believe that most people survive my cooking, though that might be wishful thinking on my part," Beth said and then continued in the same serious tone, "There is, I believe, a rumour that someone even came back for seconds but I am told that one shouldn't believe rumours." She smiled briefly to show that she too had been jesting and for a moment her face transformed, showing how she could be if she allowed herself to relax a little, frown less and smile more. It would take a lot more self-confidence than she had for that to happen. Mike said: "Everyone to the galley. Crew meeting in five minutes." "I might make a start by putting the kettle on," Beth suggested. "If crew meetings are anything like medical staff meetings at the clinic people will be needing refreshments." A cloud briefly crossed her face as she thought about the people who attended those meetings and wondered what, those who had survived, were doing. The memory of one face in particular drew her attention and she turned away from Abe, heading into the galley, both to implement her suggestion and to hide the tears welling up in her eyes. "How long?" she wondered as she filled the kettle. "Will it ever diminish?"

All systems were go. Glory was fit as a fiddle. The new systems were certainly complicated, documentation left behind written at a mechanical/engineering level. CORTEX access was sketchy at best, hackers and counter hacker, Alliance and apparently the Underground were blocking signals, intercepting and sending out all manner of disinformation and viruses. .... Jasper Daltry looked over the latest 'legitimate' wave: http://lostinserenity.com/topic/8923502/1/#new He smiled as he entered the Galley. He'd heard of such rumors in the crime family he'd once been a big part of. They'd parted by mutual agreement. He was old school grunt and labeled not reliable. Which he took as no one wanted him around. Which was good enough for him. He'd taken the fall and been out of circulation too long. There was no one wanting to claim Jasper Daltry. Daltry ha deliberatly not cleaned up after going through maintenance and diagnostic checks under the direction of 'boss' Foster. He figured it'd make him look hard working. He stopped near Abe with his cute smile on, "Miss," and nodded his head in greeting. His eyes moved to follow Beth. 'Hmmm,' he thought, 'that one looks nicely vulnerable.' ![]() |

Sylandra settled into the pilot's chair and spun up the nav-comp. Dialing in the request for course to Bellerophon, she pondered the options. Do we go straight or try to avoid contact? I'll set Alpha as true and Beta as second. She tapped in the solutions and ran the diagnostics to make sure there were sufficient fuel and stock for the trip. "12 days. Cut it shorter by Hard Burn, but that runs fuel tight." She closed up the console and headed for the galley to join the meeting in progress. |

Once everyone was gathered Ian started telling them the job. "We dont get paid for this, per say. I do have funds allocated for this and other jobs, so dont worry. Everyone will be getting paid." He paused and leaned back in his chair. "Some of you know that the Cortex is acting funny these days. It's because the Alliance and Blue Sun are trying to corner the Cortex market. If they do, then all comms will be theirs and whom ever they want. We wont have any. So we have to stop that." He paused again to let that sink in. "There is a building on Bellerophon that holds the program to the next generation of the Cortex. Our mission is two fold. Destroy the building, with the program still instide, before it's uploaded and get a copy of that program so we can pass it out next time the Alliance tries this. And they will. They have before." He paused again and took a drink of coffee that he had poured before sitting down. Too his left, Jamie took a drink of hers. She'd go with them. "I'm thinking that the Alliance will know its us and what we're about as soon as we get in system. So we'll give it to them. I'll lead one team. We'll go in with explosives blasting away as we do. I'll hack the mainframe and get a copy, once we get near enough. If we actually get caught, give up. Dont put up too much a fuss Syl will lead the second team that will actually plant the explosives and blow the building to kingdom come. Once that goes a third team will start and make enough noise for us to get away." He paused again, looking around the room "We all know that Murphy will be in residence so everything I just said will go South along with us getting into the system. Main thing is to get a copy of the program and blow the place sky high." "Any questions?" ((OOC) Jamie moved via Captainy powers. I have emailed her and am waiting a reply.) JASPER DALTRY Daltry figured he'd best make a contribution. "I've been a few shoot outs, not my best thing." he held up a wrench to indicate what he knew best. Not really, but whatever foolishness this was, it seemed like a suicide mission. "I've set explosives, though I don't know much about making them. And I could rig up something to make plenty of noise." He played with the wrench a little, pretending to be engaged with it while he checked the reactions of others. Jasper wanted to be valuable, but stay out of the firefights; if that was possible. He'd not bought into this madness that was the second 'verse war. But he realized that couldn't last. It was started and he was in the middle of it. |

Sylandra looked over at Jasper. Jasper? Jason? Was it a coincidence that their names were similar? She shook her head absently before turning back to Ian. "I've a stock of timers, remotes 'n' trips. C4 'n' other compounds that I can make into blasters. We can set it up t' blow at our command, or I can set it as a fail safe t' blow if someone tries t' defuse it. Either way, it's gone. Jasper can be my second. " She turned back with a serious look on her face. "Don't worry. I can handle any trouble we run into." |

Beth stayed quietly in the background, coffee pot in hand in case anyone wanted any more and feeling more like a servant overhearing a discussion than a participant. Her face looked pale and her expression anxious. It wasn't so much the thought of going into danger that worried her; in her current mood she felt no fear of dying, instead thinking that it would be in many ways a relief; it was more realisation that there would be injuries, however well things went, and the sort of injuries would mean blood and she didn't know if she would be able to cope with that. But she did want to be useful. "Where would you like me to be, Sir?" she asked, her voice tremulous and her face pale with the frown lines etching deeply into her forehead. "With one of the teams or standing by on Glory?" In her nervousness, the coffee pot dipped dangerously before she realised it and righted it though the hand that was holding it continued to tremble.

Ian listened to Jasper, Syl, Beth and the rest of his crew that spoke. "Mike, I'm gonna give you the choice as to which team you're on. Here, with Blaze or with Syl. Jack will take the team you're not on and Dom will be with me. Beth, I think you'd best stay here and be ready for anyone who comes back back with holes in them. Reese, I'll need you to have the ship ready for a full burn out of here. I know it's bad in Atmo, but it just might come to that." "So, my team will be Me, Abe and Dom. Syl's team will be Jasper and maybe Mike or Jack. The Blaze will have either Mike or Jack. Jamie, Reese and Beth will stay here. Questions?" Abe listened to the conversations and then to Ian's instructions. "So, my team will be Me, Abe and Dom. Syl's team will be Jasper and maybe Mike or Jack. The Blaze will have either Mike or Jack. Jamie, Reese and Beth will stay here. Questions?" Yep. She would be making sure Ian stayed alive. Plus doing her job as well. Edited by abbey, Dec 17 2014, 11:09 PM.

"Well what we lack in hacking, we can surely make up for in destruction. This is our kinda gig." Becker thought back to all the flaming wrecks they had left behind them. And now they were trying to do it on purpose. Mike would have used the words 'cake' and 'walk' if they weren't so jinxed. "Sounds like we're all watching each others backs too." Mike looked around at those gathered. Jamie would hold the ship down. Jack would do his thing on Blaze. Ian, Abe and Dom were sure to raise hell. And he and Syl could manage that quietly. Between them was enough to keep the opposition bamboozled. "I'm good with this." |

Sylandra nodded as Mike joined her team. She pulled her bag up and set it on the table, pulling out her devices and sorting them out. Various timers, def-cord, and blocks of plastique. Several grenades of various colors. Extra box magazines as well as her trusted flash suppressor. Finally, she held up a large spool of piano wire. With a grin, she shoveled them back into her bag, and zipped it close. "We c'n do this 'n' have fun 's well. But do recall the proverb of a well planned mission once't meets the enemy." |

Beth wasn't sure whether to be relieved at being left out of the more exciting part of the job or annoyed at being excluded. On the one hand, she couldn't fight to save herself, with or without a weapon and she knew she wasn't very good under pressure unless it was a medical situation and she would be worried about being a liability. On the other hand, it meant waiting around with nothing much to do except to worry about how the mission was going and whether, in the event of casualties, she would be able to do what was needed or end up fainting or running away. On the plus side, she would perhaps get a chance to get to know Jamie and Reese better. "Yes sir," was all she said in response to Ian's decision on her deployment.

Jamie nodded at her assignment. She would't let anything happen to her home. Not this time. Ian looked around the room, finished his cup of coffee and raised it toward Beth in a 'May I have another' gesture. "That will be all for now. We have 10 to 12 days to get ready. Do what you can while shipboard. I'll get plans and prints as I can and we'll all rewiew them." |

Abe listened closely as she stayed close to Ian. She wanted to touch him to reassure him that she would have his back, not that it wasn't already obvious, but she refrained from it. She briefly wondered exactly how they were going to act when around the crew. They were a couple, but there was a professionalism that should be carried out. Becker spoke about who would be staying with the Blaze. She gleaned that he was not a pilot and that Jack definitely was. Sylandra was definitely in the thick of things since she had the boom portion of the job in her skill set. Becker volunteered to be with her. "Is this as heavy as it sounds though, we gotta be talking security on top of security." They might just have that. It would have to be something to consider, but Ian had other ideas. "Worst case scenario is just that, Mike. But more like, to keep it secret, they wont have too much" "Times like this I wish Khei was still with us. I need more hackers than I got now." True. A hacker might be able to get through security and find out where they had people posted and schedules for shift changes. "Well what we lack in hacking, we can surely make up for in destruction. This is our kinda gig." Yep. Destruction could be rightly effective, especially if it is widespread. The bigger the boom could confuse the security enough to let them escape. "Sounds like we're all watching each others backs too." "I'm good with this." Abe was too, especially from a distance and using Wyatt to place some strategic shots. But she would be wherever Ian was. That was a certainty. Sylandra agreed with Mike's observation that he would be teamed with her and she pulled out her tools of her trade. It was impressive. Smiling she seemed satisfied with what she had and placed them all in the bag. "We c'n do this 'n' have fun 's well. But do recall the proverb of a well planned mission once't meets the enemy." Fun indeed. Abe was in the mood for fun. Somehow shooting a gun qualified as such. Beth then indicated that she knew that her place was on the ship, waiting for casualties. Hopefully there weren't any. Ian motioned at Beth to get him another cup of coffee. Instead, Abe took hold of his cup, walked over and refilled it. Then she came back and handed him the hot mug, placing her other hand on his shoulder for balance. After all, it would not be a good thing if she accidentally spilled it on him. Plus, the contact was welcomed by her. Then Ian dismissed them all. "That will be all for now. We have 10 to 12 days to get ready. Do what you can while shipboard. I'll get plans and prints as I can and we'll all rewiew them." She needed to talk to him. She wanted to know exactly what he planned to personally do. She needed to not be surprised when things actually got under way. Plus she had the powerful need to be near him, privately and alone. Go slow, Abe, she reminded herself. It would be so easy to fall back into their past actions. When they were together before, it was beyond passionate, a raging fire of emotions. She'd rather have the long slow burn or building something a little more lasting. But she didn't plan on doing that from a distance. |

Beth was a little slow on the uptake when Ian indicated that he would like more coffee and could only stand in stunned silence as Abe deftly removed the coffee pot from her hand, refilled Ian's mug and then handed the pot back to her. If that wasn't bad enough, she then had to watch as Abe returned to Ian and showed the same familiarity with Ian that she had in the cargo bay. "Foolish girl," she scolded herself, not for the first time since Ian's return to Glory. "You had your chance and blew it. You have no claim." But she couldn't bear to see any more and putting the coffee pot down she quietly slipped out of the galley. The obvious places were her cabin or the medbay but instead her feet took her forward to the bridge. The forward viewport drew her and she just stood there, looking out at the stars and wondering how it had gone so wrong. The breakdown that had caused her to give up surgery had turned out to be a blessing in disguise, having led her to a new vocation doing something she believed in and to a family where she had felt at home. The fire and its aftermath had destroyed all that. She made no move, continuing to stare out the viewport, her body language, even from behind, radiating quiet despair. She wasn't seeing the stars. Instead she was thinking about the best way to make it look like an unexplained event so that no one would feel guilty, especially not Ian. It would leave them without a doctor but she rationalised, if it could be dignified that way, that it was likely to be little different to her having another breakdown the first time she had to perform the sort of surgery likely to be necessary after the mission. Still she didn't move. There was no hurry. It was something better done on the night watch when her extended absence was unlikely to be missed. Beth felt calmer now that she had a plan. All that remained was to find the courage or the desperation to put it into action. "I'm sorry, April, I should have been there for you. I will follow you soon and perhaps we will meet again," she said quietly, not realising that she had spoken out loud.

After the meeting, Sylandra left to her cabin, dropping her Go Bag onto the deck next to her locker. The tiny figure on her desk caught her eye and she smiled sadly. Just 'nother job. One o' these days, I'll deal wit' that scum took you 'n' Uncle away. Not just yet. I need more time to track 'em down. She turned back and made her way back to the bridge, to check on their headings. An Autopilot was one thing, but her caution was beyond that. There was someone else there; Beth? The mid darkness of the room and the other woman silhouetted against the deeper Black made it all so etheric. Something about her stance...
She stepped forward and gently placed her hands on the woman's shoulders. "You're in capable hands. We don't give ourselves over so quickly t' the darkness. Look, if ya need t' talk, I can help." |

Despite the hum of the life support and the other noises of a ship in flight, Beth heard Sylandra coming up behind her and so didn't jump when she felt hands on her shoulders. Her first instinct was still to shrink down and slip away but she held herself erect as the other woman spoke. Beth received the messages with mixed feelings; on the one hand, gratitude that someone seemed to care; on the other hand fear that they would become family and go the same way as her previous families. She craved the security but feared the commitment to something that might not last. She might have taken issue with the statement about succumbing to the darkness so soon for the darkness had been present for all of her life but it wasn't something she felt was appropriate to say. Suddenly, desparately Beth felt the need to be held and she turned to face Sylandra and leaned toward her as the tears started again and her body shook with silent sobs.
