Greenleaf Map![]() Planet Data Name: Greenleaf. Equatorial Circum: 22K Grav: 0.98 Population: 220? million Gov/Law: Alliance Presence, local law presides; Official Law is minimal at any significant distance from the two cities. It can, and does, get called in to all points on the planet, but it would be a rare thing indeed if an Alliance or Local Police were anywhere interior on the continents as a matter of patrol. Weather: The north and south hemispheres mirror their climates. Hurricanes are common along the northeast and southwest coasts in both the spring and fall of both hemispheres. Summers have low, but consistent amounts of rain; winters have rain almost 50 percent of the time. The northern and southern tips of all the continents have bands of open plains mixed in among the junglewood. Freezing temperatures occur in the far north and south and the only firs and pines exist here, along with rather unique plants and animals for each of the six extreme points. These rare locations for some exotic animals attract rich tourists and hunters (registered and illegal alike). Greenleaf is often referred to by its longtime inhabitants as Barsoom, partly in an historic context, partly to refuse to recognized the Core renaming of the planet a generation ago. General Description: Greenleaf is a success of terra-forming technology. The planet is stable on a 10 degree axis, has perfectly sized moons for gravitation stability and tides. The planet was well stocked early with a wide range of jungle and forest plants and animals. It is now a haven for thick jungles and woods. The two main cities thrive on the trade with those that live in the interior of the planet's three large diamond shaped continents. The citizens of the interior mostly live in, on and around huge city block sized harvesters that roll slowly through the continent of Burrows. These folk are known as Harvesters. No one but registered corporations (with their own Harvesters), hunters or government officials are allowed on the continent of Theseum, with the exception of a few resorts and visitor sites on the coast next to Carter City. The third continent, Greystoke, is strictly off limits ('yeah right'), some say as a nature habitat, others say for some corporation to strip clean at a later date. There is a small Alliance Station on the Western Tip to ‘keep the Deja Thoris trash’ off the continent. It works pretty well, or not at all, depending on who you ask. The land is rich with edible plants and game (a lot of which can eat you as well) and living off the land is not a difficult adjustment for a hearty settler. These semi-nomadic groups are known as Tribers. They are most plentiful on the Burrows Continent. It is difficult to sustain a large village however as hunting gathering is the primary culture. Each continent has stories and legends of the loners living off the land and avoiding the Alliance. They are usually peaceful and trade with Tribers or Harvesters occurs, but because the land is very sparsely populated, tales of terror are not uncommon. There are rumors of interconnected tribes living completely off the land (cut off for the last 25-75 years) are pretty persistent. A few such small tribes have been located, and if on Greystoke or Theseum, removed to Burrows. Import/Export: The Primary imports are tech, equipment, hardware, any staples of the Core. Exports are food, plant and animal products, and basic components of medicines (the junglewood offers plenty of basic ingredients for numerous medical products, and perhaps research as well). Some locally crafted items made from junglewood raw materials are exported, but not significant. Burrows Continent Population: 136,000,000 (110 Mil interior, 1 Mil at Deja Thoris City, 25 Mil on equatorial West Coast) Gov/Law: Each of the huge kilometer ‘quasi-cube’ harvesters are a town of themselves. These harvesters each hold about 600 folks, most of them related. They are a culture and law unto themselves. There are 55,000 registered Harvesters on Burrows, almost all of them family or owned by the workers. A few corporate Harvesters work Burrows. Unregistered Harvesters are not tolerated, and since they are not that hard to spot, do not exist. More than a few Harvesters have been abandoned in the junglewood, left behind by those that just couldn’t make ends meet anymore. Once word gets out of one abandoned it is quickly jumped on by salvage hunters (and even other harvester folk) for parts and equipment. Tech: Low, except for the huge harvesters that slowly grinds its way through the junglewood, and their tech is strictly related to keeping the Harvester itself going. At the pace of 2-3 Kilometers an hour, there is a lot of activity near the harvesters. Sometimes tent cities spring up, or settlements for a few weeks pop up in the direction of a harvester and then remain a while after passing by. Theseum Continent Population: 80,000,000 (50 Mil in the interior, 30 Mil along the equatorial east coast) Limited access. 100,000 plus Harvesters are run by Corporations, and not all that successfully. The family owned Harvesters of Burrows seem to be able to under-bid and over-produced them. Carter City Hover City between Thesium and Burrows with settlements on both coasts: Population 4,000,000. Strongest Alliance Presence on the planet. |

DEJA THORIS CITY![]() Population: 500,000, One of the largest cities on Greenleaf Planet. Gov/Law: Alliance Vice-Governor and locally recognized authority. Firearms and melee weapons are worn. There is trouble on a regular basis, but the locals support the alliance police in trying to keep it under control. The towns and villages that dot the dozen kilometers outside the city fence are rarely patrolled by alliance police, but they do managed to maintain order for themselves – for the most part. Get any farther away than 50 kilometers and things can change. Farmers and hunters near the city stay on guard for low lifes (a.k.a. strangers). There are not any organized gangs or thieves, those are visciously hunted down, but a lot of folk low on their luck and the food chain resort to whatever violence is needed to plunder and steal their next meal. There are a large number of criminals and bandits living out in the junglewood near the city. Tech: Good Spaceport and repair facility, other tech is low. Economy: Construction of Harvester ‘Cubes’ which are the slow moving harvesting/processing plants that move slowly through the junglewood; processing of plants and animals flown in from the Harvesters; repair of shuttles and spacecraft moving these goods; political leaders have tried to develop a local craft industry using junglewood materials, which has worked well, but is not especially profitable yet. Tourists interested in the interesting plant and animal life of the junglewood and the extreme north and south tips of the continents often come here if they cannot afford the luxurious excursions that are chartered out of Carter City. A lot of shuttle flyers operate here, flying to and from the Harvesters to Deja Thoris. Crates and cargo containers of raw materials harvested in the junglewood are brought to Deja Thoris for sorting, packaging for space, and shipping almost entirely to the Core. There are a fair number of speculators and investors here, looking for a way to cash in on what they believe to be a very lucrative market for the products of Greenleaf. They are not the first. They also came just before the war, but scratching a living out of a Harvester is hard, most of them make it because they are family owned cooperatives, just getting enough profit to keep running, making repairs and keeping it an on-going operations. Business is good, business is profitable, but it’s a low margin and hard work. |

Central Section. Corporate Buildings, Alliance Administration and mostly the affluent. Well patrolled by official Alliance Security Firms. Suffolk. Newest section of the city, the growing upper middle class. Well patrolled by private police. Northstar and Hong King Tsao. The lower class sections of the city. A mish mash of decent neighborhoods, ghetto, and slums. If you don't know your way around, it's best to not stray off Port Market Street, which runs from the docks all the way SE through town. New in Hong King Tsao is the Quian Ken (Heaven within the Mountain) Triad. It is an old Tong in the Core but new in Greenleaf, eager to make a mark and gain control. The local gangsters are not pleased. Their H.Q. is in "THE HOUSE OF STONE", a well build fortress in the heart of Hong King Tsao. Bordertowns. The very poor, though they scrape by; housing and living conditions are poor. Dangerous. A Few Kilometers Out. The roughnecks, tough folks living off the land mostly, they don't like strangers. Some illegal trading posts if you know where to look. -------------- The Edgar Rice Landing Area and Port Market Street is the center of activity for spacers, flyers and traders with the Junglewood. The Street ends at the Harbor Master Building and Square - that being the center of the docks and landing area. Surrounding it are all manner of shops and stores for life on Greenleaf. - Places in the Edgar Rice Landing Area and Port Market Street: Ixquic Tavern. This is where most locals gather, as well as transient spacers. Looking for work, looking for information, looking for trouble; this is the place to be. The Jane Hotel. Quite a few spacers and dock workers live here, leading off the alley behind it are private shops and apartments where most of the local folk that support the docks live, work, and shop. Malithar's Outfitters. Full one-stop shopping for anyone venturing into the Junglewood. Their Gunstore has just about everything legal, and if you can talk your way to Malithar himself, plenty of illegal weapons as well, or so folks say. Brothels: There are others, but of note (both have a small bar and rooms): Lola's Cabana is higher class and a few blocks into the city, but still on Port Market Street; Penelope's is where the blue collar class goes, and if you're in the mood for some big kink... the basement will have it. Federal Marshall Derik Domo and Ranger (local sheriff) Jessik Domo. Brothers, they are quite adept at walking the fine line between Core, Alliance, Corporations, and locals. Derik and Lola are hooked up and live on the top floor of the Cabana. Folks are divided and inconsistent on their opinions of the brothers. Some say they hold Deja Thoris together, others that they are just corrupt skalawags taking advantage of everyone they can. There are all manner of jobs available: flying intra planet flights to and from Deja Thoris to the Harvesters; and transporting goods to and from the Core. Information about locals and the lay of the land isn't hard to get, just ask. Discerning the truth from the wild legends the locals seem to half believe is another matter. |
