A few heads turned when they heard the ominous clink-clink of a chain. It was the kind of sound one would associate with a fugitive - you know, the type they had around their ankles, some poor damned soul shuffling along, confined by his cuffs - and that was enough to pique curiosity. When folk saw the rifle, however, and the woman carrying it on her back, they were quick enough to return to their drinks, wide eyed. It was midday in Canyons Head, a small backwater slum of Deadwood, and Skarlet was only a few hours off her flight. Exhausted, feeling sweaty and dirty, this one had been a tough one. The young lady had come a long way, across multiple planets and with much unneeded blood on her hands (though, since when did that bother her?) to get to such a dank place for the climax. That aside, though, she was happy enough to finally arrive - this was a big one. The bar was typical for this kind of locale - quiet, grimy, barely lit at all and with that peculiar smell of infused sweat and blood and alcohol. The man at the bar never stopped staring at Skarlet from the moment she entered, chewing methodically at some gum and examining every detail of the new arrival. He was a large man, stained shirt and all, a balding head showing his true years and a crooked nose that proved he wasn't one to take shit in his establishment. "And what'll you be having this afternoon?" He ignored the rifle - everyone always did - as the young lady approached. |

Before she could blink Theda dashed from the wash basin and was throwing on her clothes. As gun shots continued to echo from below she got herself together in record time. Lastly she fastened her gun belt and positioned it just so, pistol on right hip and knife along with a couple of extra mags on her left. Pausing before exiting the room Theda pulled the mid-sized autoloader removing the magazine to see if it indeed was loaded, a motion of habit more than necessity knowing full well it was topped off. She slammed the mag back into the grip and racked the slide. Upon opening the door the shooting had seemed to come to a lull, her heart meanwhile pounded inside her chest like mad. In her mind she ran through multiple scenarios that could be taking place downstairs none of which put her mind at ease. She slowly moved toward the staircase with sidearm drawn carried at the low ready position as a few patrons scattered past her looking for cover further away from the shootout. The scent of gunpowder flooded the hallway as smoke slowly drifted up from below filling the balcony. It was an aroma Theda had become all too familiar with as of late and had grown to become fond of in a disturbing way. As she edged around the corner she could hear a voice call out. "COME OUT O' THERE Ya' tal mah piss ants! I'll skin ya' 'live and make ya' in'ta my new hat brim!" Theda's eyes went wide as she couldn't believe what she had just heard. "It can't be, can it?" She queried herself. Crouching lower she continued closer toward the railing until she could peer down into the saloon. Through the thick haze she could make out a few figures, The attackers most likely... She reasoned, and the one in particular was regrettably a past acquaintance, one that deserved to be put down like a dog. Theda tried to position herself for a shot, it would be problematic leaving her a bit exposed but she had to take the chance. From her vantage point she couldn't see the bar area or who they were shooting at, as the balcony was directly above the counter projecting out into the room four or five feet. She struggled to steady her shaking hands waiting for his head to pop up again. "C'mom, breathe... easy now." ...She coached herself, knowing full well time was of the essence. Slowly and purposefully she staged the trigger just at the moment a shot rang out from under her position. This is it! ...She concluded and time was up. She pulled the trigger bringing the firearm to life engaging any target that moved below, first Rattlesnake and then his accomplices, when done she got off about five shots before taking cover. . ![]() . By this point Skarlet's voices were near deafening once again, even over the sound of the gunfire continuing to hammer into their cover. They wouldn't stop arguing, one set wanted her to simply hide, "Run! Wuo duh tian keep your head down and stay safe!" Broken glass and cheap booze were covering the floor, Skarlet could feel a couple of shards on her body. Rattlesnake and his two cronies were shooting wildly, despite not having a clear shot. Bit it served well to keep the two heads down. Skarlet noticed ty looking up at the mirror above them, "You need to calm down, let them waste their bullets." Even Skarlet had to admit that her voices did something besides torment her. But she didn't have much time to take the advice to heart. "Wait for a chance to run!" "And let us get shot in the back? "It's a chance isn't it?" Skarlet wanted to scream, tell all of them to shut up and let her handle this. None of their contributions were helping her, she was trying to argue with herself and fight for her life "SHOOT BACK DAMN IT! Why are you letting them live!" Skarlet swore she spoke out loud, because Ty seemed to read her mind... well her minds. "Two shots, I go low, you go high. Take the kneeler, I'll take Rattlesnake. On three..." Skarlet looked over towards him for a moment. She already found cracks in his plan, mostly the fact that her pistol didn't exactly fire quickly. Ty would probably be more efficient in putting down the two. BUt he had already started counting so Skarlet grudgingly agreed, "On your lead." She pulled her knife from the wood and flipped it around before sliding it back into her sleeve. She tried to Tyson's countdown seemed to last an eternity, Skarlet's own dementia seemed to want to draw it out and make her miss the mark. She checked the bullets in her magazine, 6 bullets left. Using her hectate rifle wasn't an option here, while at this range it would practically rip "Three!" Skarlet let Ty move out of cover first, hopefully draw the aim. It was a force of will that made Skarlet stick to their agreement, as if him putting the bullet into Juilan would She placed her first shot, aiming for the man with the wounded let as he would be easy prey. Skarlet had zero qualms about putting down someone who was wounded. She fired off her first shot, looking to put a bullet in his heart. The second she fired the first shot her hand was immediately pulling back the bolt while she shifted her focus to the man still standing, looking to place her bullet right into his throat. |

As the two of them came out of hiding, there was a fog of smoke filling the room. Behind Rattlesnake, one of his men was flat on the floor, the other waving a shotgun around at the stranger off to one side. Rattlesnake, himself, had a sawed off shotgun at his hip, the last blast having blown a chunk of bar into splinters adding to the chaos in the room. Shots echoed down from overhead, someone on the balcony firing randomly into the throng of tough guys. Ty's round hit Julian's left thigh, causing him to whip to one side, bringing his blaster too far around and the shotgun belched past Ty's head, missing it by a foot. Skarlet's shot, meant for the one henchman that was now down for the count, ricochetted off the door frame and sought out some nondescript landing place. The stranger, although prone at this point, both guns still blasting away, hit his opponent, the second henchman behind Julian, and that man dropped his shotgun, clutching at his ribs before dropping. The echoes of gunfire failed to cover up the obvious sounds of emergency vehicles' shrill whines in the distance outside. It seemed that this interlude would quickly devolve into interruption and interrogation. Fellow Bounty Hunter: "William"

Skarlet saw her shots miss, swearing under her breath. However the gunfire seemed to die out slightly, she could clearly hear that several of the guns had been silenced. She reloaded her magazine, the smooth motion showing she had plenty of practice handling a gun. Too bad any observer most likely wouldn't know that it was forced upon her. But as well as the gunfire she could also clearly hear sirens. "More blood to shed! More people to slaughter!" "No no no! If they take him away you'll never get him!" Skarlet growled, the frustration was really starting to get under her skin. Now they were living on borrowed time. Worse is that Skarlet was bound to have a criminal record, she was on the move too much to know if any of the more atrocious murders she committed have stuck to her. The constables in the vehicles rapidly approaching might not only get their hands on a psychotic pirate but a wanted serial killer as well. "If the officers get him then he's going to spend the rest of his life in the cell, you'll never get your hands on him." Skarlet looked over to Ty, who almost had buckshot take off his head, "Teaming up with them was a mistake, now you have to wait for him to finish before you get your turn." She needed to get a hold of Rattlesnake and get him out of this place. She ducked out of cover, aiming and firing another shot at rattlesnake's legs to keep him down. She ducked back into cover, "What if he knows how to get free from this damn rifle?" She looked to Tyson, "We can't just leave him for the cops. Is there a back entrance?" By now she wasn't trying to hide the fact that she was a bloodthirsty maniac. "ooooh what if he knows your name?" She paused when she heard that, she couldn't hide the fact that something was eating at her. "He gets taken away, neither of us gets him." |

A crashing rush of wind blew in the front door, sending part of the half frame structure cascading across the room, knocking Julian off his feet. He barrel rolled into a nearby table, sending glassware and a bottle flying. Bullets continued to rain down from overhead. Ty had gotten to his feet, at one end of the bar, and winced against the onslaught of smoke and debris blown in from outside. Skarlet, her single shot pistol hanging loose in one hand, braced her back against the backside of the bar while various bits of barroom flew overhead. Theda, once her shots had scattered the remaining citizenry below, pulled back from the edge of the balcony, only to find herself being pelted by debris from the blast at the door. Sirens accelerated outside as something very large descended near the bar. Dust and wind blew in what windows had gone undamaged, and filled the dive with confusion beyond the gun fight that seemed to die out. The Stranger pulled himself up and tugged a bandana over his face to protect against the dust cloud. He moved to Rattlesnake's side and kicked the shotgun away. Gripping the thug's hands together, he whipped a restraining band around them and tugged the big man onto his feet. "You two come with me if you want to avoid the Law!" He made movement toward the hole in the front wall where the door used to be. |

Theda was quite dismayed at her exhibition of marksmanship. "Ai Yah Tien Ah!" She blurted out in frustration. The pilot needed to refocus her efforts and fast as she could clearly make out the approaching alarms. Before she could reengage her target the sudden blast showered her in debris as she fell flat to the floor. The gunfire had ceased as Theda brushed off bits and pieces of what once made up the front entry to this establishment only to see through a swirling dust storm a stranger handcuff Rattlesnake. "Just Shiny." she muttered sarcastically to herself as she regained her footing. The tavern's new churning environment could only mean one thing, a ship of some sort was parked just outside where the front door once existed and this bloke was about to exit with the one man she hated most of all. Over all the clatter she could barely catch him speaking to others in the room. "You two come with me if you want to avoid the Law!" Sidestepping the law would be a smart move right about now for as surely as death they were coming. Theda refreshed her firearm with a full magazine before holstering and fetched her bag. She shook off the scattering of rubble and slung it over her shoulder. Then with hands held high she descended the staircase. "Don't shoot I'm coming down!" She announced in her loudest outside voice. . Ai Yah Tien Ah = Merciless Hell Edited by Rolemancer, Dec 9 2013, 06:02 AM.

Skarlet was very divided about the turn of events. Even more then she usually was. With the sirens drawing closer and the wind blowing telling of ship engines being close Skarlet put away her pistol, once again stashing it in her dress while she unshouldered her rifle. She pulled back the bolt, checking to make sure that one of the massive bullets was loaded, if she needed to flee she would at least attempt to disable their craft before making her escape. Maybe the presence of some firepower would scare some caution into their pursuers. While she was doing this the strange bounty hunter had kicked away Julain's shotgun and restrained him. While Skarlet was happy he wouldn't drag someone to hell with her the rest of her wasn't quite so happy, "HE"S A LIAR! He said we'd get him first." Skarlet ignored her voices, she knew that he was looking to prevent Julian and everyone else in this firefight to get put in a jail cell. She sat on the bar before wheeling her legs up and around the bar to hop down onto the other side. She walked towards Julian, she couldn't wait to carve into him. While she stared at Julian she heard the click of a knife causing her to look up. She could see a copy of herself leaning against one of the pillars of the "He's a bounty hunter Skarlet, this is a trap. How do you know if he's not going to turn you in too?" "Or we could stab him in the back, and turn in Julain's bounty, keep the money for ourself!" Despite the voices Skarlet knew what the right decision was. "Lead the way" |

James strode to the hatch and threw it open to the gaping hole in the former bar. He could see his partner dragging the target fugitive forward, and three others falling in behind. He waved franticly to urge them on, the sirens whining in the distance giving more incentive. "Come a runnin' boy! We got to scoot!" Reese stood by as well, Jack being close at hand to the bridge so they could make a fast retreat as soon as their passengers were boarded. Ty had jumped the bar right behind Skarlet and holstered his weapon. James: ![]() William:

William dragged the secured and unconscious Rattlesnake aboard the vessel and with James' help, they hauled him further back into a secured confinement area. As they did so, James called out over his shoulder, "Jack, get us out o' here. Once out of atmo, hit the big yellow button. We'll be hard pressed to get out before they come a lookin' for us." Ty, Skarlet and Theda piled in behind them and Reese hit the hatch release to secure the airlock. Jack jogged to the bridge and put on steam to get the ship heading skyward. |

Jack sighed as he slid to a stop almost falling into the pilot's seat, and pulled the yolk back and began rolling the throttle forward. Moving the ship away from the building, that was at this point, more than a little likely; on fire. He sighed as he pulled back more stiffly on the yolk, and gritted his teeth. What part of not a crack pilot did this James person not understand? Those people now down in that cargo bay should have all been thankful, that by the grace of Buddha the man did accidently land the ship on the bar. Not many streets after all had beacon and automated landing assistance. He reached over and pushed the button for the in ship com system. "Brake atmo in fifteen, at which point you and I are going to have a conversation about what my skill set is and bloody isn't." He released the button and felt the shutter move through the yolk, as gravity started to fight back against the ship trying to escape her steady grasp. Wolf rolled the throttle further forward to compensate an push on through to the black, rolling it all the way forward as he felt the smooth caress of the black end the trembling of the yolk. Giving them a quick full burn, as he reached over and pushed the large yellow button. |

![]() William appeared on the bridge, and tapped Jack on the shoulder. "I got this. You're relieved. Go say hi to your new buddies." He dropped into the pilot seat as soon as Jack got up. His hands flew across the panel, stabbing this one and that in some mysterious order. As he spotted the yellow button. He giggled at it and turned back to Jack, giving a conspiratorial wink. James settled into the chair and kicked his heels up onto the edge of the table. Gathered around were Ty, Skarlet, Theda and Reese. "Well, now we're on our way. I'll collect the bounty and we'll divvy it up appropriately. I know a few of you want the scoundrel dead; that could still be arranged. I have to make arrangements with my benefactors first. Then we'll see who gets what piece. " He leaned back as if considering before continuing. "Might be that I could use your talents on some other ventures. Do you work together very often?"

Wolf stood and moved from the pilots seat as he nodded at the man, watching him taking the seat and go through a series of button presses. As the man looked at him at gave him that stranger wink, he felt his fingers tighten around the grip of the firearm on his thigh. He walked away, fighting the urge to put a bullet in the strange persons head. Heading out of the bridge he walked quickly down the hall way, and headed down the stairs to the cargo bay. Looking around those who were now gathered in the area, he took each of them in in turn. The new girl was a particular sight, either she was crazy; or wanted people to think she was. Though he supposed the answer to that unasked question would come out sooner or later. For now he locked his gaze on James and strode towards the group, his fist clenching as he walked toward the man. "When you got behind me on the baroness, I thought I was dealing with a professional. Everything from that point however has been a complete contradiction." He growled as he walked forward, he wanted to hit the man but; he wouldn't. At least not yet, there was still the matter of just what was going on here. "First that mad dash through the halls of the baroness holding a severed hand, and now you have me land us in a city street and take out the front door of some hole in the wall bar. For what, the craziest hot exvil in the history of any operation I have ever seen. All just for some punk bounty, that you could have hit with a taser and locked in a cold box." His eye locked on James, as he waited for the man to speak. Edited by Jack Wolf, Jan 12 2014, 10:16 PM.

From the moment that Skarlet stepped into the vessel it was obvious that she was not comfortable here. She had followed her impromptu savior because it was literally that or trying to talk her way out of a prison cell, not very good odds for the cold blooded killer. She didn't take her eyes off of Rattlesnake when one of the crew members disappeared into the bowels of the ship. Like a feral predator watching her preferred prey slip away her eyes followed Rattlesnake as he was taken to confinement, it seems she would have to play nice a little longer. "Getting taken way, just like I said. Skarlet snapped back to reality when she was led to a table. She didn't seem too troubled by the motion of the ship leaving the planet's atmosphere, possibly tipping the others off that she had spent more then her fair share of time in a ship. As Skarlet looked around the bay she saw a copy of herself leaning against an exposed girder. She could already tell which voice it would be by the glint in her eye and the smirk on her face, "Played beautifully, just like I said. Your not going to get to him." She closed her eyes for a moment, but when she opened them she only saw the reflection of herself standing down a hallway,"Never going to learn your name, you'll always be Isaac's little lapdog." Skarlet's teeth clamped down on her tongue to stop herself from screaming. The more casual tone of the captain meant that they were most likely safe, yet she didn't seem too at ease for reasons that were obvious to her. She still had her pistol hidden onto her encase her voice's prediction was about to come true. As the captain began to speak she unshouldered her rifle, unloading the box magazine before pulling out the bolt to eject the bullet left in the chamber, it wasn't like she could set down her weapon as a gesture of peace. She just listened to what he had to say, nonetheless she didn't like it one bit. Her head snapped to the side when she saw another man walk in and begin ranting. The sudden apperance almost made her produce her welrod and be prepared to put a bullet into him. Her voices had her on edge, being so close to a chance to kill Rattlesnake seemed to rattle them up, getting revenge always did. In a second she glared back to the captain, her anger with this news was clear to see. She leaned forward on the table, "I was promised that I would have my time with Rattlesnake. Jien ta duh guay I'm going to let him get a prison cell. He owes way too much for that." Unfortunately that news made her almost completely glance over what the captain was offering. Working on a crew would mean that she could get from planet to planet much easier, that and a paycheck would be a big bonus. Credits from the latest kills she's gotten were dwindling, and with most of the surviving crew having some form of bounty on their head tracking them might be a tad easier if under the right guise. Of course... Skarlet would gladly throw it away if it meant she got some time to properly flay Rattlesnake. |

Besides, as I understand it, there was some concern about how to deal with having him in custody, or dead, " He looked over at Skarlet, pointedly, "when the 'authorities' arrive. They were, most likely, in his employe." He turned in his chair, facing Skarlet directly. "As for your personal time with him, we have plenty of time to spare. Theda made a run for the ship not sure of what was to follow. After all she had been looking for a ride off this rock and here it just about fell into her lap, there was no time for second guesses. She trailed behind as the last to enter the ship that awaited them just outside where the bar entry once existed. With all the smoke and commotion Theda never even noticed it was Tyson Hazard right in front of her. When the whole event seemed to settle down Theda found herself in what seemed to be the ship’s galley. Her eyes were watery and irritated by the smoke and dust she had just raced through. As her vision improved she began to glance around the table at what and who she just allied herself with. Theda's quick scan ran past all the faces then suddenly stopped and back tracked and set firmly on Hazard whose attention was occupied elsewhere. She rubbed her eyes a few more times not trusting them to be working clearly. At the exact moment she was sure it was him the Captain joined them at the table and began giving them an update on where things stood. So far it sounded pretty good, at least on the surface...plus she wasn't one to turn down a portion of a bounty she accidently stumbled upon. An offer of work sounded even better, things might be on the rebound at long last. She noticed Ty hadn't seen her yet in the dimly lit room and as the Captain completed his little intro she thought it about time to chime in. "Might be that I could use your talents on some other ventures. Do you work together very often?" The Captain concluded. Theda spoke up as she motioned toward Reese and Skarlet... "Don't know these fine folks, but as for this Big Lug over here, we've worked together before, though it has been some time ago." It was about then that another member of the crew waltzed in and interrupted the conversation around the table. Theda kept her eyes on Hazard as the newcomer and captain traded verbal jabs. "Hey Stranger." Hazard's former confidante and friend had so much she wanted to say to him, but this was all that came out. Edited by Rolemancer, Jan 17 2014, 10:43 AM.

Wolf hand clenched into a fist as he stared at James, his mind moving through the scene of how easy it would be to pull his pistol from its holster and put a round in the man's head; just a quick draw and simple squeeze of the trigger and James, well he would be gone that quick. But he didn't do it, regardless of how much he wanted to at this point; how every fiber of his being screamed for him to. He inhaled deeply, then breathed a quick sigh; as he fought back the anger. He looked to the woman that looked like a punk goth serial killer, all rolled into a petite package that normal would not bother then old veteran; but something about that girl set his teeth on edge. She reminded him of some of the more rare incenses back at the training house, not quit right; a sickly sweet smell that burned the nose. The kind companions were taught about but rarely used, unless the client requested them. He saw the way she looked around the room, as if looking at some figment of imagination. He that to pass, thought he wasn't sure he should. He looked the other woman as she spoke up, then looked around the room to the others gathered. His eyes fell on Ty and all the came to mind was an old file he had read in his time in the C.I.D. though not much of note really stuck out. Alliances and affiliates didn't really matter to Wolf much these days, people were people after all. They all had some kind of past. Instead he turned his attention back to James and sighed. "Soon as I find my old friends I am gone, long as yours don't get in my way; what goes on is none of my concern. Let slasher there have a go at the scum bag you captured, I don't really care about any vendettas and vindications that the people here have toward the man. I am sure the man isn't a saint, as I am sure no one here will do worse than I did myself back in the day." With the Jack took a long drag from his cigarette, as he produced he flask from his pocket. Breathing out he let the smoke drift into the air, as he brought the flask to his lips and tiped it up. Letting the scotch inside pleasantly burn its way down his throat, before screwing the cap back on and sliding the shining metal back in his pocket; before leaning against a nearby crate and preparing himself to listen to the rest of this meeting. |

Skarlet stayed silent. But what the captain told her made her half mad smirk become a shark toothed grin in an instant. Oh how badly she wanted to shout to her voices, she was right and they were wrong! They weren't going to take Julian away from her. She visibly got eager, hell she practically didn't hear the part where the captain said that he wanted to get out of the range of any system patrols. She was already uneasy, wanting to tear into him right this second. She breifly wondered about the walls of this vessel and how well they would soundproof their "conversation" since she didn't want her new allies to come to Julian's aid when the screaming started. She saw another copy of herself walk into the room, standing right next to her. Skarlet only gave a few glances at her, not even giving the copy her full attention. It was the exact opposite of the doppleganger from before. Her posture was hunched, her arms wrapped around her midriff like she was chilly, or terrified. Her eyes lacked the aggressive nature that had become a concrete part of Skarlet, her expression gave away her extreme sorrow, she looked like she was about to break into tears in any second. She looked over the others, "Why do you have to hurt him?" Skarlet didn't give this voice any attention, "These people are going to put him in a prison cell, he won't hurt anyone anymore. We can be happy here." To Skarlet it wasn't about that. Skarlet leaned against a nearby wall, not seeing any seat that she could sit down at. "I'm going to do much more then have a conversation with him" She stopped herself from giggling at the prospect, but her smile didn't fade. "Consider the difference between alive or dead my signing bonus... I'll work with you." |

![]() James nodded to Skarlet. "Fair enough. Take a time to refresh. I'll update you on access." The group break up as James stands, goes to the locked cabin and double checks the lock. He then turns and heads forward toward the bridge. Others shift around and either find comfy chairs or empty cabins to unwind in. |

A day passes as the Galiano heads toward its secret destination. The corridor is dimly lit while passengers and crew alike are tucked away into their respective cabins. Only William remains in the cockpit, taking his shift at the helm. The deep dark of the Black lulls him into a restless slumber, his feet kicked up on one edge of the bridge console. A dark silhouette slips out of its shadowy container and approaches the locked cell of the prisoner. The glint of steel flashes as they try to pry the lock. Finally, it snaps and the shadow slips inside. The silence is deafening. |
