Eli was headed for the cargo bay, assuming that's where his First Mate had disappeared to, and turned abruptly to face Monte as the man caught up. The questions, the look on his face, the tension of the situation, it all made the Captain start to realise how obscene the situation had become. He let out a long sigh, a serious look on his tense face. "That man... what's he doing on my ship?" He pointed rudely back up towards the kitchen, disregarding the fact that Daiyu seemed to have taken up residence on board that night, too. He was starting to remember bits and pieces now, the morning rush of blood to his head slowly dissipating. The fight, the companion - he remembered that. He even remembered the stranger, that familiar face that for some reason set his blood to boil. But after sitting down for a drink or two, the Captain's mind was still fuzzy. "I don't remember sending out invites, Monte. Not to him!" He spat the last words, his voice dropped to a whisper again, face red and coffee still in hand. He remembered, just slightly, that he and Monte had shown up at the tavern just as the fight was ending. something about the companion. But that man... what was it his business, Eli and the Reyne? He put the Captain's hairs on end. |

Monte stared deep into Eli's eyes, seeing the redness there, the distant fuzz that was just now starting to fade. "His name's Minato Saionji. Don't know all that much about him; he was involved in the fight, Africa said he held his own. At the bar last night, her and I questioned him. Seemed likable enough. Thought you might be interested in checking him out. What with the drinking, we all ended up back here. " He held up his hands at the growing anger in Eli's face. "Now, I didn't make any offers. Bunked him down in one of the spares and made sure he wasn't packing. If there's a problem, he's off the ship. But you seemed pretty mellow last night. Quite right with the world, even." |

The yell echoed from the internal bowels of the ship and Carrie not only winced, but her shoulders lifted as if she'd been hit. Her head turned slowly and looked towards the stairs, waited a moment and then looked back to the Sheriff. "Might give me a minute. Think the celebratin' last night mighta made him forget a few things... I'll be right back." Not wasting another second, she backed away from the cargo doors and headed up the stairs, taking them two at a time, coffee still in hand and sloshing a little dangerously in the mug. Turning into the halls, Carrie was careful not to take a corner too sharp for fear of running into Eli and giving him a coffee shower. Finally, she came across Eli and Monte face to face. Apparently, Monte was trying to fill Eli in, for which she was grateful. Over Eli's shoulder, she gave Monte a slight wave, a silent question as to whether she needed to step in or if he was alright to handle things. That raised an eyebrow on Carrie's features. It wasn't so much that Eli didn't remember, but the tone, almost a venom, that was used. Finally, she cleared her throat. Loudly. They weren't that far removed from the galley and kitchen, which meant not only would the crew be hearing the conversation, they'd likely be seeing Eli at a moment he wouldn't really want remembered. "Not to ah... interrupt the reminisce, but the Sheriff is down at the cargo doors..." She let the words hang in the air. If Eli was remembering things from last night, Carrie was suddenly unsure of how her presence would be taken. Especially after he'd been yelling for her. Edited by Trina, Oct 17 2013, 03:14 PM.

The freelancer gracefully took the cup and quietly whispered his thanks to the woman, before moving to regard Eli. Kenji's eyes never left the Captain's tormented face, he saw the mistrust burning in the man's gaze. He felt a tug at the back of his mind as he saw him tense up. "I just wa-" he tried to apologize, before the man stormed out. "This changes the game a little He thought as he scanned the room, He noted Monte whisper something to Africa before tailing Eli. Kenji finished off his cup of coffee, and set the mug carefully in the sink. He turned to Daiyu and nodded, "Well I'm glad you're alright.[/b] He then regarded Lupin and Africa. " I thank you both for the assistance, but it seems I've overstayed my welcome." He said a grin on his face, "Farewell" The man turned on his heel and headed down the corridor that the Captain went down assuming it lead to the Cargo Bay. His silent steps were that of an assassin, though he was in no condition to fight, it also aided him to slip about undetected by the human ear. Step by step he down the passage way until he heard the Captain in a rage.
He slipped from the shadows and moved towards the two men. "I apologize if I had done anything to anger you sir, He said his voice an even, somber tone. "I was hoping you'd be able to grant me passage off of this planet and back to the core. Though if you deem it necessary, I will leave. He said the somber tone deepening, a hint of sadness crossed his face. He noticed Carrie walk up and exchange words with Eli. -edited-Goin' for 3 now haha Edited by Ahroro_Deltori, Oct 17 2013, 03:07 PM.

Eli bit his lip, listening to Monte, and as the mans hands flew up in front of him as if to disarm a psychopath on a warpath, the Captain suddenly felt a pang of guilt. What was he doing? He was acting a fool, a tightness in his chest, and he'd clearly sullied his image the night before. Before he could respond, though, there was the newcomer, the one who'd been introduced as Minato, and Eli's teeth ground together in silence as he spoke his piece.Elijah stopped him there as he become aware that Carrie had just arrived downstairs. It felt like an awkward Mexican Standoff, no one speaking for a moment. The Captain, it seemed, need to progress things. "You... Mr Saionji..." What a lie, he thought. "... please... help yourself to some breakfast. I need a moment with my crew here." The look in his eye was icy, crystaline like glass, yet the man gestured to the kitchen once more, as if confirming that having the stranger on board didn't bother him. On the contrary, there were clearly a lot of drunken hazes that needed sorting out. The gorram Sheriff. Eli swallowed, thinking, having dismissed the pain in his side for a few moments at least. He just nodded then, mulling over the situation at hand, ignoring the fragments of what he did and didn't remember from the night before. Finally he sighed, exhaling long and deep, ahnds on his hips. "Let's see to the Sheriff, then. Monte..." He placed a hand on the mans shoulder for a moment, softer eyes now directed his way. "... my apologies. Can you see our guests are seen to for breakfast?" He didn't wait for a response, still working away the fuming confusion under the surface, and started on his way downstairs. |

Carrie stood, looking for all the world as if nothing 'exciting' had just happened, waiting for Eli to draw close. Once he did, she held out the coffee in her hands with a look on her face that denied a refusal. Then her gaze shifted to Monte and Minato and she shooed them back towards the galley. Monte was given a nod that clearly said she'd take care of it, as best she could. Turning on her heel, she fell in just behind Eli. "Sheriff wouldn't say what he wanted, or I'da taken care of it already." Instead of bringing up the previous night, she opted to deal with the situation that was approaching. "Doesn't seem too fussed though. More like he's just followin' up." |

Lupin was enjoying himself, possibly a little too much, and he continued to drink his coffee to help cover up his large grin. Sure it might seem mean to mess with the captain's head like he was, but he kinda had it coming and would likely return the favor. Besides, he couldn't think of a better way for someone with as unsavory of a history to make connections and get along with everyone on the ship. Speaking of the crew others began to show up in all variaions of a rough night. Lupin made sure to keep polite and say hello to each person as they came in especially the new arrivals. And after the numbers thinned out from Monte, the captain and Kenji all stepped out towards the cargo bay he got up to pour himself another cup and said to Africa and Daiyu, "How are you ladies doing this morning?" he cheerfully asked to distract himself and them from the 'conversation' that could be heard echoing from the cargo bay. Looking at Daiyu he asked, "Are you still ok after last night?" He was concerned for her but was honestly the type who may have kept walking in that situation. But that was yet another difference between the core and the border planets. |

Kenji stood there fuming as Elijah's eyes pierced through him. Kenji locked his gaze with the veteran's and nodded slowly before taking in a full view of the ground. "Alright..." he affirmed chewing on the inside of his lip. He wasn't there to cause that kind of trouble, nor was it his ship. He spun on his heel and walked the way he came as Carrie shooed him off. A storm cloud hung low over his head as he slipped back into the galley and took a seat. Hearing the exchange between Lupin and Daiyu. Edited by Ahroro_Deltori, Oct 17 2013, 03:48 PM.

"How are you ladies doing this morning." "Very well. After all, the gentlement on this boat all behaved as they should." She gave a look to Daiyu to let her know the companion... had not been taken advantage of as Daiyu seemed not certain. heck, even the Captain didn't know?... but she knew the Captain, so Africa was certain. Africa rose and playfully kicked at Arsene's chair. "up you." she said in a false bossy voice. "Let's get fed." she said in a poor rim accent. She had decided everyone needed food. Real food, not coffee and sugary pastry. Carrie had cooked up breakfast and there is still mostly sat while everyone eyed each other over their coffee. With a smile at remembering all she had done in her night (and not done) she tried to reassure those that remained that it would all work out. "It's a good boat and a good crew. The Captain and First Mate will work it out." and Monte, he seemed to be one that interjected himself into a solution. as a solution. good man. Africa started serving anyone present a full plate with a large helping of everything that had been prepared. Edited by Tojoyama, Oct 18 2013, 04:30 AM.

Monte turned on his heel, following Kenji back to the galley, after seeing Carrie take Eli's lead. Africa was joking with Lupin and then offered to make breakfast. After Kenji took a seat, Monte stepped to one side of the doorway and leaned back against the frame, keeping on eye on everyone. As he watched Africa move around, he felt a warmth in his chest. Even with their understanding of not rushing into things, there was definitely a deeper connection there. A feeling that was growing stronger. He smiled deeply and satisfied. "Breakfast smells good. A good meal to get the day started." |

Pembrook was about to tell Carrie that he wasn't concerned with last nights scuffle but the yelling started and she just as quickly disappeared into the ship. Not one to slip across the threshold without being properly invited he simply looked in through the open door. Seeing the bedraggled captain make his way down the stairs he wished that he would've had such a blissful night noting that the morning wasn't as blissful. He waved a bit as Eli approached and started off to the point. "Captain I won't keep you as I can see you are still recovering. To sooth any type of concern you may have for me last night is a closed case. Far as I will say my only complaint is your crew didn't kill any of those animals." He gave the captain a sympathetic grin. |

Eli mumbled something along the lines of "Goodmorning Sheriff, what can I do for you?" thought it ended up sounding like an indistinct jumble or words that he justified with a smile and a firm handshake. From beyond the threshold of the door a streaming, agonising blast of sunlight met his hangover full on, and wincing in pain the Captain ushered for the lawman to enter.Eli wasn't really sure how to take that, smiling nevertheless and nodding his head as if the chance to kill had somehow slipped away from him the night before. The comment, though, only brought up further questions, and the Captain shifted his weight from one leg to the other, head cocked to side as he asked. "Then what might be the occasion of your visit, Sheriff? We here were just about to get on our way." He deliberately didn't look at Carrie for that one as nothing had been discussed on where they were going next just yet. It was only half a lie, though - once the two new faces on board were dealt with, the Reyne was taking to the sky. That is, unless duty called. |

Eli had said nothing to her, on the remainder of the trip to the cargo doors or about leaving. It had been a fair bet they would, but Carrie hadn't heard word of it. She hung back, near the stairs, letting Eli and the sheriff conduct whatever business had brought the sheriff to the doors of Reyne. Leaning against the railing of the stairs, she 'busied' herself with cleaning her nails, which were actually immaculate for once. The mention of leaving garnered no reaction. Least he didn't go gettin' all angry and odd when he saw me. Either that or he developed one hell of poker face overnight... The very thought put a smirk on her lips. That was always a possibility. Shifting her thoughts away from the awkward end to her night, she idled on what the Reyne might be looking to do next. He'd probably thought on it, but hadn't made a call as yet. That's how it had been so far. Jobs had come at just the right time. Carrie hoped this time would prove no different. |

Lupin got up out of his seat and fallowed Africa, "yes mam," he joking replied as he offered to help with carrying the plates to the table. ash he was helping Africa was doing her reassurances to the companion. "It's a good boat and a good crew. The Captain and First Mate will work it out." Lupin set down a plate and chimed in, "We're your friends. We're not like the others." He sat down and even though he wasn't the breakfast type he didn't turn down the meal and began to eat with the others. Looking at Africa and Monte he asked, "So do you all always have such crazy nights after making deliveries?" He kept eye contact for the most part as he took another forkful of food from his plate. The thought in the back of his head snuck in that while this wasn't exactly as good as the 3 or 4 star restaurants he was sometimes able to enjoy it was most certainly better then his old life's day to day living when it could get to it's worst. He quickly shook the memories of having nothing but rice and beans sometimes for weeks at a time. This certainly was a better way of living, thing was could he keep up the honest lifestyle. |

"So do you all always have such crazy nights after making deliveries?" said Lupin. Africa flushed, just a little, and looked at Monte. When she realized Arsene was probably referring to the fighting and not the making out and kissing the night away with Monte, "Oh. No." She didn't really know though. "It's my first time, so;" well, no, now maybe they would think first time... with Monte, which it was, but first time with a man. Which it wasn't. She smiled and smirked and suppressed a giggle. This mood she was in was totally delightful. Nothing could spoil such innocent simple joy. Africa looked at Lupin, he seemed deeper than he wanted to let on, or cautious somehow; . . wary? "I'm not sure how usual those sorts of things are." Then a look at Daiyu, and the simple joy lessoned just a little. There sat a woman that only a night ago had almost been brutally raped. If not for the stranger's instincts. She turned to Kenji. "Do you always have such a sense of imminent danger.... " "... Freelancer?" |

Pembrook took off his hat almost embarassed and put it back on. "Well captain I only have two deputies to watch the group of six from last night. I have at least twenty or so hard cases scattered about the badlands and no one else really to turn to. We won't meet another crew who can handle themselves like yours in quite a while. What I'm asking for is sparing some of yours to ride out with me to clean up the rest of em. I have the horses just not the men. He tried to gauge Eli's face but he didn't give a glimmer of his thoughts. |

Kenji sat there ruefully, as he contemplated his next steps. The conversation bounced between Lupin and Africa so he really needn't pay attention. He just sucked down another cup of coffee and stared at the table his thoughts a blur. "After the bar, and a wonderful conversation with Monte and the Shepherd...." He thought trying to remember what happened. "The Captain never quite took his eye off of me, as if he saw right through me..." Another deep breath and Kenji was back in the real world.Kenji's emerald gaze rose to greet the woman's. A smirk emerged to replace his scowl. "Sadly it appears to be a gift gained over time." He placed the mug on the tabletop and drew his shoulder length hair behind his ear revealing a scar. It went from his right cheek bone and followed a line past his earlobe. "The 'Verse is a cruel mistress, one we all must answer to. That summons, was one that nearly took my life." The freelancers features softened as he brought his hair back down to hide the scar. "It was either adapt or die..." he finished before pouring himself another cup of the black elixir. |

Elijah listened intently as the lawman spoke his piece, rubbing the thickening stubbled on his chin in contemplation as the situation laid itself out before him - the Reyne was being contracted as guns for hire. The thought was naturally occuring for Eli, with his history in killing and all, but after thinking it over again the Captain started to question just what this kind of work meant for his crew mates. He stared at Carrie, specifically, as he contemplated the offer. She was a smart woman, straight up and down, and she was loyal as hell, too. But that didn't make her a gunslinger. It wasn't just his First Mate, either. There were some he knew were clearly capable of handling themselves - as the haziness of last night proved - but was the stowaway ready to ride out into the desert, guns blazing? Was Monte? "The badlands, you said? Dare I go speculatin' on what that means?" Burying one hand deep in his pocket, Eli produced a crumpled pack of cigarettes and prepared one for lighting between his lips, courteously offering Carrie and then the Sheriff a stick as well before lighting his own. "Carrie, what're you thinkin' on this? Clearly we made a mark on the town last night, this crew of mine. But how far does it go, this whole nasty business, when folk need help?" He already had an idea of what the answer would be - likewise, he was almost certain of just how the conversation between the three of them was about to play out. That was his job. Carrie's, on the other hand, was to make sure he did it right. |

For the first time since coming aboard, Carrie took the offered cigarette after crossing to join the captain and sheriff. Somewhere in her expression was a hint of mirth at the fact that the job had presented itself, holding true to the pattern. Also swimming in that expression was the faintest hint of concern. She could use a gun, but she was by no means well practiced with one. Taking a slow drag, Carrie looked more at the sheriff than Eli, then shifted her gaze as she exhaled. "I dunno that it's always 'nasty business', helpin' folk. Worked out well enough for me so far." The message was subtle, but she knew Eli would pick up on it. She'd helped him and she'd landed herself in a decent spot. That wasn't always the case, but if one wasn't willing to attempt, things often passed by and there were no second chances and no going back to regain the opportunities lost. Her eyes shifted back to the sheriff. "And you never know when there might be future possibilities based on helpin' folk out in times of need." Her mind was turning towards future deliveries of goods for the town, but that was always a slim chance. Mulling over things, she considered the crew. There were a couple she wasn't sure about, mostly the two new folk, but there were still some questions on the others. Sure they'd handled a brawl alright, but this was 'running and gunning'. |

The Captain had agreed with Carrie before she'd finished speaking, having weighed up the options at hand in his head. It was handy, to be honest, having work fall into place before them right after they'd officially become unemployed. And these folk - well, they sure weren't the type he'd feel comfortable about leaving unassisted. The town had treated them well for the 24 hours or so they'd been there. "What the hell..." He rubbed his face again, still groggy from the deep sleep of the night before, and shrugged a shoulder down the hall towards where the rest of the crew were still likely enjoying their morning meal. "Why don't you come on in, Mr Pembrook? Er, Sheriff. Have a bite, tell us a tale or two? No doubt my folk will be interested in offering a hand." He took a step forward, nodding for the lawman and for Carrie to follow, his temporarily distracted thoughts now returning to the scene he'd made earlier. There were still issues to be resolved and the new faces on board were dominating his mind for now. The coffee in his hand had cooled, needed to be refreshed, and Eli lead the way back to the galley hoping for a better entrance than before. |
