For her part, Carrie had kept a clear head while the rest of the crew had taken to drinking. Mostly. The walk back to Reyne had been interesting. She, Eli and Arsene had trailed a little behind what looked to be a bit of a budding relationship or, at the very least, a much closer friendship between Africa and Monte. The two had stayed terribly close the whole trip back and had disappeared together behind closed doors. Arsene had seen himself off and she, like the night they'd met, helped a slightly drunk Eli to his door. She hadn't put herself to bed until she'd assured herself the rest were bedded down for the night, or at least in their rooms as some didn't really sleep. She'd then stayed up a little to actually open up the engines and have a peek around. Nothing so worn or damaged it couldn't wait a while was found, so she'd put herself to bed, but idle thoughts had kept her awake most of the night. Now, she was just finishing up breakfast and coffee for the crew when the banging started. Moving the food so the others could plate it and eat when they were ready, she poured herself a cup of coffee and then a second, Eli's usual cup, and set it on the counter. With that, she started out of the kitchen towards the bay where the banging seemed to be coming from. She paused and keyed up the ship's com. "Coffee and breakfast in the mess, folks. Cap, sounds like someone's at the door. Your cup is waitin' for ya. I'll get the door." Releasing the key, she headed down to the bay and crossed to the doors. Before opening them, she took a peek at who might be standing outside. Sheriff. He did say somethin' bout talkin' to the Eli... She started the door cycle, but only allowed the doors to open partially, a 'safety' habit she'd seen used in her days. "Mornin' Sheriff. Believe Captain Harmon will be joinin' us shortly." It was only belatedly that Carrie took note of her less than First Mate look, so she passed on introducing herself as such. Rose colored t-shirt, long ago stained, coveralls, the arms tied around her waist, slightly oversized boots and hair loosely pulled back, he'd probably take her for the mechanic anyway. Still, she offered the man an easy smile and a hand. "Carrie." Edited by Trina, Oct 9 2013, 12:35 AM.

Lupin awoke in his bunk to the ship’s com with a kink in his neck that he began he had to pause for a moment to recollect the night’s events and the fact he wasn’t in the city anymore. Despite the time spent aboard it was near impossible to get use to the quiet, with the exception of the knocking, and the sense of seclusion that came with it. He rubbed his neck as he sat up and noticed he was still wearing the same clothes from last night. He took a moment to wash his face and comb back his hair before putting on another shirt. It wasn’t so much a hangover but rather a long night he suffered from and as he was about to walk out the room he noticed his jacket was missing. It took him a couple of moments to remember he had given it away and at this point it was best to consider it gone. He made his way into the galley, kitchen, dining room, whatever you would call it. All he knew it was too early to worry about what to call the room but it had coffee and that’s all he cared about at the moment. He finally found the coffee and poured himself a cup musing to himself a quote from a mad journalist he remembered reading once, "Those of us who have been up all night were in no mood for coffee and donuts. We wanted strong drink." A little cream and a little sugar later he had himself a cup full of bliss and sipped away contently. |

The CO2 reverberators kicked in with a quiet click and whirr along the main shaft line. Africa woke, eyes opened softly. Her left cheek was on Monte's chest, his arm was wrapped around her. Chamberlain blinked a couple of times to flick away the dream state. But it stayed a bit longer, she maybe didn't want it to do so fast, then the little misty sleep faded away and she remembered it. The undressing, the kisses, his hands. Her hands. Mouths and tangles in the sheets, talking and fingers tracing across each other's bodies. Then more hands and lips and ... mouths. Pulling and hugging and grinding up against each other. Like teenagers? no, just soon to be lovers. maybe. Africa Chamberlain smiled and bit her lip. "Hmm." Her right hand lay across his stomach, it moved around him, she snuggled her shoulder in under his arm just a little. Monte stirred to the touch, his eyes flickered briefly as other parts of his body responded involuntarily to her nearness. His soft snoring faded into heavy breathing, and then into a cough. His lips found the hairline and his morning kiss brushed her hair back away from her forehead. His hand slid gently down her back, feeling her arch against his touch. He smiled gently and pressed closer. It felt good, this closeness, this familiarity. Even if their physical shenanigans hadn't quite reached climax. And then the smell of black java whiffed into the room and he came more fully awake. Africa pulled the sheet off his chest, and lowered it past his groin and the rather fully pressed underwear. "Testosterone in males is produced overnight." Her face turned to his. "You sure you don't want me to do something about that?" He'd understood, or that's how she would always remember it. Just how far to go, how fast. Even when she wanted more, and he certainly did too; there had been restraint despite the passion. Respect and lust, longing and patience; the potential for more and the desire to walk the path slow to enjoy each moment along the way. She leaned and sat up on the bed, her fingers just barely touching his lower stomach. Africa was naked from the waist up as well, her breathing was long and slow. And she still smiled happily. Another deep breath, "Or maybe just coffee?" It wasn't a tease, she felt she understood where they were. A beginning without predetermined destination. An adventure to share privately among two. Africa Chamberlain found her shirt and put it on. She was incredibly giddy happy. Leaning against the door waiting for him to walk her to the galley, she just watched him move. And smiled without restraint. ![]() A joint post created by MacTrom and Tojo |

Sheriff Pembrook looked at the woman in the door with the eyes of a weary man who spent the night half sleeping at his desk. "That's fine miss, thank you." He tipped the brim of his hat at her and shook her offered hand. He smiled at her."Carrie, Sheriff David Pembrook. I believe we've all had a long night and I won't take up much of your captain's time. Just a quick word." Pembrook took a step back to admire the Grey Reyne. He hadn't seen a vessel this nice around Coopersville in many years. |

Monte leaned on one elbow as he watched her as she pulled her shirt on. Her delicious form was outlined for a moment against the sheerness of the fabric, and he felt his passion returned. He sighed and slid his legs over the edge of the bed, standing as she stepped to the doorframe. Picking up his pants from the bundle on the floor, he pulled them on before standing and walking over. His thumbs drew the suspenders up over his shoulders and he leaned in for a quick kiss on her cheek. "Ok, coffee and then a chat with the rest of the crew to find out what's on the agenda for today." |

"OK." Africa said. A tiny bit of tears appeared suddenly. She held his neck for a longer kiss than he might have intended. "It was wonderful, that is, I mean. You're really wonderful." He was. Monte had treated her with respect and kindness and; and when she felt like it was just right, some raw passionate kissing and petting. He seemed to know just how and when and how far. She scooted out the door then, looked back, figured to give him the 'but don't be getting cocky' line... but she didn't say it. Just smiled with too much schoolgirl excitement and headed on ahead of him a few steps before stopping and waiting for him to catch up. It seemed too fast then. 'remember last time' HE LEFT! and then she stood, one hand just a little farther from her body. She willed him to take it as they walked on to the galley. |

Eli skipped the last stair on his way down, half by accident and half in haste, stumbling slightly as he broke into a short jog in the common area. God damn it... just my luck, he thought, seeing Arsene sitting across the room with a steaming mug, eying the Captain with concern. Elijah gave a corny grin. "On purpose, my friend." The Captain moved across the room with a little more grace now, tediously trying to dissect the looks he was getting from Lupin as an indicator of just how hungover he looked. The pains in the mans skull had mostly subsided now - subsided, or just drowned out by the smell of coffee. "My gorram mug." It was muttered under his breath as Eli searched the kitchen - there were dozens of mugs on board, the majority of which were actually duplicates of one another. Boring, bare, ceramic clones. But his mug was his, it had been from day one. Getting through a morning like this, one with such a hazy prelude, wasn't going to be easy without coffee. Coffee, in his mug. "Seriously, Arsene... if that's my..." He stopped mid sentence, one finger extended in a semi-mock, semi-serious accusation, as he caught sight of the still hot mug of coffee sitting on the counter. Carrie. The Captain sighed, lowered his hand, took his mug. A long sip. Bliss. He remained standing at that, totally oblivious still that the vessel actually had a visitor, and eased himself into the hot caffeine hit that instantly revitalized his body and soul. Looking at Lupin up and down, the Captain figured he didn't turn up too bad - that, or maybe it was just Eli who'd had a bit too much to drink. He decided keeping the absence of recollection from the night before to himself. "Big night, huh? Really something, for a small kinda town." He smiled, as if there was some inside joke that neither of them actually got. His poker face was astonishingly bad. |

Kenji awoke to strange surroundings as the scent of metal and recycled oxygen entered his nostrils. His head throbbed as his eyes took a moment to adjust to the artificial light in the guest quarters of the Grey Reyne. "That was one hell of a night.." he grumbled to himself as he rose unsteadily to take in his surroundings. He noticed the sink in the corner of the small compartment. The merc quickly used it to wash his face, the cool water exciting his pores. He shut off the running water as he looked into the mirror at his reflection. He took a deep breath as he noted his bruised temple and a slight cut on his forehead. He removed the fabric from his knuckle and rinsed out the wound. "None the worse for wear.." He said turning from the glass, as he gathered his gear from the bedside; Big Iron and his two newest trinkets from the previous nights scuffle. The asp aptly named Cleo, and the sidearm Ivory. He slipped Cleo in his pocket before holstering Big Iron. He checked to make sure Ivory was empty and the safety was on before slipping her in his right pocket. He felt for his credit chit, along with the slip. Both were still tucked away in his breast pocket. He strode to the door and poked his head out checking around to figure his way to the Cargo Bay. He shrugged and took off in a random direction following the scent of coffee. |

Monte stepped in behind Africa and slid his hand into hers while they walked into the galley. He watched Eli confront Lupin something about the mugs on the table. He shrugged and gave her hand a squeeze. "Have a seat, I'll get the coffee." He released their grip, although it reluctantly, and moved to the counter and poured two steaming mugs. He fixed her's like she liked it and took his black. There were also a handful of pastries that had been absconded from somewhere, so he collected a handful onto a plate and brought them along with the mugs, carefully balanced in one hand. He slid sideways into the chair closest to Africa and set the mugs and plate onto the table in front of them. A grin crossed his face as he nodded to Eli. "So, Cap, what's on the agenda for today?Any pings on possible cargos?" |

Africa watched with near disbelief as Monte 'waited on her'. She was perfectly capable of doing that herself, but watched him move as though it was perfectly natural for him to be doing what he was doing. The coffee had just the slightest amount of cream in it, when had he noticed that was how she made it? Of course she noticed such things all the time, a constant state of meditative awareness practiced for thirty years, but it was uncommon in.... in what? Men paying that sort of attentive detail? to her? Dema never did that. And he was trained to make such observations. That was different though. They were different. She immediately dropped the foolish notion of such a comparison. With the contemplation of the mountain she might be making out of a mole hill gone - she took in the rest of the crew. There was of course, no shame that she'd spent the night in Monte's bed. It had been a loving and pleasant experience. 'more than that' She was practically beaming. Her smile lit the room even as she sipped at the coffee and reached for the blackberry filled danish. |

After shaking the Sheriff's hand, Carrie took a sip of her coffee and watched as the man stepped back and looked up at the Reyne. A swell of pride surprised her, but the lopsided smile didn't. With his head tilted back a little, she got a better look at just how worn the man was. "Look like you could use a cup of this," she indicated, lifting her mug slightly. The subtle movement made her glance towards the stairs and listen a little closer. So far, no sounds of approaching footsteps, but then she knew Eli sometimes went without his boots. More often than not, if the truth were told. With the presence of the Sheriff, Carrie replayed what she knew of what had happened the previous night. Most of which she'd heard about well after. However, of late she'd been holding back in her personal interactions with the crew. There were some jumbled and confusing emotions and thoughts in the back of her mind that never really seemed to go away. They'd come to a jarring halt after something was said, and her mood had gone a little darker than usual. Now, with dawn over them, a night of getting the crew, new and old, to the ship and the morning of seeing they had a meal on the table, the lightness of mood had returned. She was determined to keep it that way, even after Eli appeared. Course, he may not even remember what he said last night... |

Lupin smiled at the captain as he regained his composure, "Clearly on purpose", he confirmed. He looked the captain then the boring mug that he was using; fortunately enough Eli was able to find his mug. With all well and both men having their coffee Lupin decided to have some fun and pull the captain’s leg, "Yeah last night was great. At least until the cops showed up." He did his best to avoid giving away any hints of deceit and continued to sip at his warm beverage. He smiled at Monte as he came into the room as well keeping what he said hushed unless the captain was to bring it back up. He took another drink from his mug and casually asked the captain, "Aren’t ya supposed to be meeting someone outside?" |

Until the cops showed up... "I'm sorry, what?" Choking back the mouthful of coffee he'd been trying to savour, as to avoid it coming back out again, Eli instantly wondered if the timing of that little comment had been predetermined. He leaned against the counter, staring at Lupin, eyes narrow. "The cops?!" The questions came out as a choked whisper, yet full on aggressive, and Eli's mind was racing too fast to give Africa and Monte any more of an acknowledgement than eying them both as they entered. Lupin seemed to shrug it off, mentioning some folk the Captain was meant to be meeting - none of which made any sense to Eli. He'd heard Monte, but the priorities of the hungover man were clear. "Someone I'm meant to... gorram it, what the hell? What cops?!" |

Africa enjoyed the Danish, real or not, the taste of the Blackberry fillings was tart and sweet. The coffee strong. She was relaxed and as such everything was being taken in. Her normal state of unconscious awareness; soft and calm, yet every ready. Actively her thoughts were more lusty, she turned to look at Monte. "That was fun last night." He'd been such a gentleman, not pushing her; thinking the alcohol had her at a disadvantage. Mostly she'd been willing, but the whisper of uncertainty, of too much too fast had held her back. And he'd sensed it and . . . A moment she stopped, switched to remember about the cops coming. Did Arsene mean after they had helped the companion? Or was that later? A look and smile for everyone in the room, she wanted to engage them. The Captain seemed to be suffering some memory scrambles from his drinking. Arsene, he just seemed relaxed and laid back. Monte. Monte was like a rock, a big cuddly teddy bear rock. She thought of engaging the situation at hand, but she had one much more pressing matter. "Would you like to stay in my room tonight?" She asked Monte. edited to my mistaken orientation of where everyone was, thanks Trina Edited by Tojoyama, Oct 16 2013, 04:19 AM.

Most of the night was a blur. She didn't recall drinking, but then again, she didn't seem to recall a whole lot about what had happened in the bar after the introductions. Regardless, she never could keep her liquor. A flaw, some would say, but Companion's were never really encouraged to drink the harder stuff. Above all else, you were supposed to maintain your civility and it was hard to keep your wits about you with the good stuffing pumping through your veins. Wine was a different story. Daiyu could hold her wine just fine, but such luxury seemed woefully absent from this borderworld crawl she had wound up in. Must've been the liquor that had done it. The woman was completely unaware as to where she was, a low mechanical hum being the only distinct noise....It was different, but familiar all the same. The more time the Companion spent upon that rather uncomfortable bed with her eyes closed, the more she was beginning to get a good feel for where she was...and it definitely was not a hotel room. "Coffee and breakfast in the mess, folks. Cap, sounds like someone's at the door. Your cup is waitin' for ya. I'll get the door." A voice echoed through the room as it garnered an obviously displeased groan from the Companion. Her eyes cracked, the darkness of the room cut into several smaller sections by little flickers of light, mostly artificial she'd rightly assume as the world started to come into focus just a 'tad' more. Seemed she found herself on a ship, though it was hardly all that surprising. After the night she'd been through she reasoned that somewhere between introductions and waking up, the Captain must have invited her to the ship. ....Wait...She didn't? Her body jerked up almost instantly, wondering just what she had bartered exactly to board this vessel and blew a sigh of relief when she noticed that no body had been occupying the space beside her. Not that any of them were particularly dissatisfying to her tastes, mind, it was just a horrible breach of etiquette for the woman to act in such a way outside the confines of the Companion Registry....But she imagined trading sexual favors for a ride hadn't been entirely unheard of. Well, no matter now. She didn't remember a lick of it and there wasn't much to be figured out by sitting in a dark and cramped room all by her lonesome. Head throbbing the woman managed to stagger up and fix her clothing, rather delighted to see that she had the foresight to bring luggage with her to the ship. At least she wasn't totally absent minded. A new day meant a new dress and a freshly groomed, if not frazzled, looking Companion. Course, Daiyu didn't know just how many of them knew she was even there...No one had checked in on her, no one was in her room, and her memory was as black as could be on the matter. "Might as well find out." She murmured as she quietly stepped from the small room and carefully navigated her way through the ship until she managed to stumble her way into a rather curious situation. "Someone I'm meant to... gorram it, what the hell? What cops?!" Enter the rather awkward Companion, now standing behind the group of people as she rose a hand to cover her mouth with a yawn. "...you have nothing to fear, no?" She was sure her presence was fairly surprising for some of them, if not all of them. She had no better way to introduce herself though....Granted, she was mildly unnerved over how nervous the Captain seemed to be regarding the law; but, she saw no reason to question it. The crew had saved her life so whatever business they got up to was surely none of hers. |

Elijah's mouth was still hanging open, ready to barrage Lupin with more interrogations, when the unknown voice piped up from behind him. Turning so quickly that he almost lost some of his coffee to the floor, the Captain was wide eyed as he acknowledged Daiyu had entered the room. Oh god... who is this? He didn't say anything at first, trying desperately to recall the events of the evening just passed, and finally managed to compose himself in the most casual way as possible. "Well... no. Nothing... I just... you slept well?" The poker face again, this time a little better than before, the Captains cogs turning over as he pulled together what fragments of the nights before that he could. If this gorgeous stranger - stranger who, apparently, he'd invited on board the ship - wasn't too worried about the cops, maybe he shouldn't be? Suspicion started to creep into his mind, a side-eyed glance shot across at Arsene... was he being played? It was difficult for the man to ignore the obvious state of play Monte and Africa seemed to be enthralled in, something the man had seen coming and yet hadn't totally been prepared for. No time for that now. He straightened up, thinking calmly, and decided breaking the ice was the best was to go about things. "Coffee, then?" He gestured to the steaming pot for the companion to utilise, a friendly yet still unnerved smile on his face. I'm never drinking again. |

Kenji padded silently through the corridor, his fingers brushing along the bulkhead as he made various turns throughout the belly of the vessel. "Transport vessel or not..., This is like a Yu-ben da labyrinth" He moaned, continually shuffling through the passage. He found himself at a set of steps which lead to darkness. "I'm too hungover for this." He groaned retreating the way he came. After 10 minutes he returned to the entryway to the guest quarters. A sigh escaped his parted lips as he took off in the opposite direction. Eventually he heard voices coming down one of the halls. It was a bittersweet sound as he realized it was the voice of his mark. He was in no condition to go through with the job. He trudged forward towards the artificial light of the galley.
"Yes, I'd love some... Black please" He croaked as he came into the mess hall. He scanned the room and saw the crew minus one. Monte and Africa were closer than they had been at the bar. Lupin just as quiet as he was the night before, but he seemed different, more relaxed. The companion apparently caught the Captain off guard. The freelancers mind swam as he picked a spot at the threshold, leaning in to support himself. |

When the Captain had spun to face Daiyu it had presented her with a rare occasion of being almost completely blocked from the view of the other's -- an opportunity which the woman took to exchange a puzzled look with the captain and vaguely mouth the question 'We didn't, did we?', something which would have been hard to pick up on but her face was probably enough to spell the question out to the man. Sure, she hadn't woken up with anyone but that was just a minor technicality, she of all people knew that much. "Well... no. Nothing... I just... you slept well?" "...Well enough, thank you." She responded, voice still low as if the woman was still trying to shake the fuzziness from her mind. There was a slight clearing of her throat, the Companion giving a small nod in reply to the offer for coffee. She'd personally always preferred tea, but at the moment it hardly seemed like the right time to be picky about it all. That was when another stranger appeared. Faces were somewhat of a blur at the moment, but the woman just politely smiled as she poured both herself and Kenji a cup of coffee before quickly passing Kenji his cup and taking a sip from her own. Once the caffeine was in her system she decided that now was as good a time as any, a little clearing of her throat following. "I do apologize, I don't usually drink." It was about the only thing she could think to say at the time...At least hoping to offer some sort of explanation as to why she was about. Never again. |

Eli became tense as he heard the words, not so much because of who had spoken them, but more out of instinct upon realising there was someone unaccounted for in the room. Tense, his body rock solid, the Captain slowly turned to face Kenji, staring the man in the eyes, a look of shock slowly turning into a glare of rage and suspicion. That man. That face. Jesus Christ, what was happening? "..." He opened his mouth, said nothing, took a step back. The man's eyes went from Kenji to the glamourous companion - is she flirting with me..? - and then to Lupin, who seemed to be quite content with himself seated at the table. A quick glance, one of desperation, was shot across the room to Monte and Africa, but the Captain found no solace there. Finally, he broke, defeated, and the words came out as a calm whisper as he stared at the floor. Swallowing deeply, eyes blinking tightly in self control, Eli finally looked up, surveying the kitchen as a whole. "Excuse me a moment." It wasn't directed at anyone in particular. Eli turned, walking quickly from the room, and before he'd even made it through the threshold of the door headed downstairs his shouting began. "Carrie! CARRIE GORRAM IT!" |

Monte watched as the galley filled with people and then Eli got confused and turned away. He tapped Africa and with a quick kiss on the cheek, stood and followed Eli out the door. Catching up to him, he looked quizzically at the older man. "What gives, Eli? Don't you remember last night? The fight, the companion, the other man that we brought aboard who helped us out?" Confusion was all over Monte's face as well. Seeing the Captain at a loss like this, brought many worries to him. |
