Seems legit. QMx does a lot of legitimate Firefly 'Verse products and lore writing. I'm skeptical though, and will stay tuned. The path of 'social games' these days is a grim one.

I've seen comments that seem to present this along the line of Zynga style gaming. Much would be disappointed if such. But if more along the line of MMU, that might be fun.
But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free I've got nothing but affection for all those who sailed with me
Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow. Things should start to get interestin' right about now

Fingers crossed for an actual game, rather than one of those point and click time wasters.

Surely Browncoats would march on whoever is responsible if it ended up being a Firefly version of Farmville. Surely.

Be realistic here, we're talking about Fox. It's not like they CANCELLED OUR SHOW AND TRIED TO STEAL OUR HATS OR ANYTHING. They'll milk it for every dollar it's worth, especially now with Whedon making headlines.

If you are interested in a game coming out with the firefly vibe (or at least open world space ships) check out star citizen. Insanely talented devs working on this with a whopping crowd sourced budget. They're going for fully detailed ship interiors, on foot and in space, open wold. It's not an mmo but you can play with friends. So it's pretty damn close to us living our or dreams of being mal... or in my case reavers.

There will be large multiplayer elements, Skarlet, but it'll be a server based deal, as I've been reading. Rather than straight up MMO, you can join massive servers instead, or play LAN/on your own if you wish.

Imagine if you took graphics a full proper generation ahead of where we are now, crammed together Freelancer, Evochron Mercenary, Wing Commander, and a dash of Eve Online, added ground combat, and just about everything was considered (from the hands of your pilot to the planets he will walk on, the cockpit he will sit in, the escape pods he will run to, the interiors of the capital ships his dog fighter will fly through, etc)

That's a close approximation of what Star Citizen will be. It's.

Going. To be. Glorious.

Ahroro - there's a lot of in-engine-in-'game' footage going around. In fact, a lot of the 'CGI' tv-advert style trailers online for the different ships are rendered in-engine, which is kinda friggin' scary.

For citizens, (that is, anyone who's bought the game + a ship), there's a program called The Hanger, which is essentially the building blocks of the program that will become the game. You install it, download a patch, log in, and it drops you in the game engine, in 'your' personal hanger in space, and lets you explore all the things you currently own. It's being updated pretty much monthly, and new stuff on the game drops almost fortnightly, the rate of reveal is downright scary.

I have the Constellation ship. (I may or may not have backed $250AUD into the game, making me a Rear Admiral).

To give you a rundown, the Constellation:

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121117101022/starcitizen/images/e/e2/Constellation_Mk3.jpg

It's the 'Firefly/Millennium Falcon' of the game's first set of ships (more are being released every month, from tiny dog fighter to massive scary-ass capital ship.) The Constellation is one of the larger ones out right now, so big it can even fit a snub fighter in its bay (which it comes with! The P52 Marlin!: http://cdn2.dualshockers.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/CONSTELLATION13fightertopfront-copy.jpg)

These ships are scaled, by the way, so if you look at the cockpit on the Marlin, that's a human-sized chair, obviously. Gives you some sense of scale.

http://images.wikia.com/starcitizen/images/b/b6/Image11.jpg

A cutaway of the interior of the Constellation, which can actually be walked around in right now in the Hanger.

Comes with two 360 degree turrets mounted to the neck, as well as a bunch of other armament mount points (some not visible in that cutaway.) Four massive, Xwing like engines can actually shift into different configurations: http://assets1.ignimgs.com/2012/11/15/004jpg-19d369.jpg (Cruise configuration here, engines close, guns away.)

Here's the kicker: http://www.force-unifiee.fr/images/star-citizen/constellation/4.jpg

It houses up to 4 players. FOUR. /PLAYERS/. As in, not NPCs. As in, Captain, pilot, gunner, engineer. As in YESSSSSSSSS.

Not that every player doesn't have their own ship - but you need more people to man bigger ships. So this is how it rolls.

Twenty upgrade points plus additional engine upgrade points means you can actually deck it out for combat, salvage, mining, or more. It's stupidly versatile.

... And this is just ONE. JUST. ONE of the ships in the game. A larger, and more fleshed out one, yes, but just one. There are sports-car looking fighters, chopped up looking pirate ships, military bombers, there's two capital ships thus far, and so much more.

This game. Looks. BOSS.
