As the pair entered the Zephyr for the first time, the smell of stale, slightly damp air washed over them. The main airlock was huge, and rightly so. Massive crates were stored just inside, filled with enough supplies to keep a family of settlers going for months, longer if they didn't like their kid too well. But that was nothing compared to what lay just beyond. A few metres ahead a regular sized airlock door hung open. Stepping through, it would be easy to forget one was still on a vessel. The room was the huge, the ceiling stretched up into the distance, a series of walkways connected overhead, darkness even further beyond that. As far as they could tell there wasn't even a roof. Immediately before them lay a long table, in the centre of which sat an empty trough, dozens of small stools were bolted to the floor around it. To either side of this, makeshift walls had been erected, they rose to just above head height. Behind this, a small complex of bunk beds and lockers, enough to sleep 50 folks easily, each. The place was huge, and they were less then fifty footsteps inside the thing. The vessel had a gloomy atmosphere to it, despite its 'spick and span' appearance. Everything was clean, the place well lit, yet it seemed so dull and uninteresting. |

Blaine walked into the ship, immediately he was hit by that ship smell, the recycled air, sweat, and fuel, it was something that took getting used to. There were crates, lots of them, Blaine didnt know what the guys on the ship were up too, but he wouldnt question it, he just wanted to get on with his job, no questions asked. Blaine carried on walking, and saw a long table, with lots of stools, but Blaine hadn't seen many other people boarding, so where were all these people? Was the ship bigger on the inside that it looked. Blaine looked at his "companion" and shrugged. |

Stephanie wrinkled her nose to the smell that assaulted the odd couple as they entered the ship, though she didn't show any repulsion and ensured not to miss a beat. She continued in, her large companion Blaine shrugging to her as she glanced over once shoulder, and she returned the gestured with a nod and a frown - 'tell me about it'. Having been given no true directions, Steph continue on, one hand holding the strap of her backpack and the other hanging freely beside her sidearm. She headed straight ahead to get a look into large 'pens' that held the bunk beds and lockers. It was damp, dim and smelt like a thousand years of mould and mildew had someone liberating the interior of the ship from its human masters. "This sure is pretty, hey hun?" She didn't give a smile, though, and continued into the large walled off section to see if there were any other travelers who might have some reassuring words. |

As Athena continued into one of the sectioned off sleeping areas, the only sound her keen ears could pickup were the echoes of her own foot falls and the drone of an engine somewhere far ahead, deep into the back of the ship. Past the table and behind this wall she spied dozens of freshly made bunks, beside each of which lay sets of lockers, some now slightly rusted but still sold. Not a soul was to be found though, in this section anyway. At the far end of the table lay another, human sized airlock. This one appeared to be sealed however. |

"Hmmm." Steph stopped once she'd entered the bunk area and took in the scene before her. There was room here for a dozen or so families and she was almost definite that this space before them wasn't the only living quarters on board the Zephyr. From her general knowledge the young girl was starting to assume just what kind of ship the hulky mass around them had once been. "Figures, I guess, boat this size." She said, thinking aloud. "Would've come cheap once they decommissioned." Something still didn't sit too well, though, and she casually pat the sidearm on her waist as she turned back to Blaine, as if to ensure it was still there. "Funny looking luxury liner, I'll admit." She gave a smile, taking a few steps back to him until they were only a foot or so away. Her voice lowered, smile gone. "Pretty sure this used to be a prison ship or something... definitely not worth the coin we paid." She rolled her eyes and continued out of the large sealed off sleeping area. Surely there were other passengers somewhere nearby. |

The hatch was sealed tightly, a task indeed for anyone lacking the strength, but Athena was able to spin the locking wheel freely with but a single hand, and the hatch swung open before them. With it came another wave of odors the faint smell of food and the hum of the engine grew louder. In front of them stood a huge, circular sink, with dozens of taps, mirrors and soap dispensing devices. Half faded images and phrases had been drawn onto the mirrors, recently enough to. To either side, dozens of doors, behind each of which lay a rudimentary toilet. Still not a soul to be found though, although if one was listening carefully enough, they might pick up the faint sound of boots on decking, which seemed to be coming from somewhere above. |

Steph talked to him, Blaine just nodded at her, he was trying to get used to his surroundings, and also his mind started to go to emergency exits, and contingency plans in case this all went south. There was something strange about the place, it was empty, yet had so many rooms, and had a very sterile feel about it, something which didnt sit well with Blaine. Steph carried on talking, and it seemed that he had some misgivings about the ship they were on, she seemed to think it was a former prison ship, and he nodded in agreement, the thing about Prison Ships is that they were generally well guarded, not in a person kinda way, but in general, lots of gates, lots of keys, things like this could make it difficult to escape if they needed too They walked through another section, and finally there seemed to be some kind of proof that there were other people on board. whats going on above us? he asked. Steph wrinkled her nose at the new smells, even those of food that were probably meant to be inviting, and gave a shrug to Blaine as she wandered carefully by the sinks that lined one wall. It didn't look much like a five start floating resort, that was definitely clear. Despite the combat boots, the small girl barely made a sound as she walked, as if read to pounce at any moment like a cat. "'least we're not alone?" It was legitimately a question, as if the assurance of other souls on board wasn't necessarily a comforting thing. While she still didn't feel threatened, nor out of control of her situation, it was wandering by the large bathroom area that finally put Stephanie on edge. Maybe nothing was off, but it sure as hell didn't feel too good to be waltzing around her. "What's say we see about getting upstairs, yeah?" Her tone, from playful, loving, carefree wife, had changed now. She was in her primal element for the first time since meeting Blaine and noted that she had to be careful not to give too much away. She continued on, comforted a little knowing that the huge man had her six o'clock, and started looking for some way up to the upper level. |

Behind the massive, circular sink lay another closed airlock hatch. As Athena approached, an aged voice rang out, seemingly coming from various different sources. 'All hands, prepare for undocking, disengaging from the Baroness.....now' The vessel shook under foot for a brief moment, before the calmness of the black returned. Echoes of celebratory laughter could be heard from somewhere up above. "AND AWAY WE GO!" came a familiar voice from behind, as a grinning Mr. Nuts half ran toward the pair. "C'mon, Captain always like 'ta glare at new travelers." he added with a guttural chuckle, swinging the airlock hatch open before him. It screeched open, obviously in dire need of some fresh oil, not that anyone seemed to care. They were now at the rear of the vessel, the sounds of conversations and the occasional hushed voice could be heard ahead, but Mr. Nuts veered off to the right and toward one of the access ladders. |

It seemed like they were disengaging from the Baroness, there was a slight jerk, and they were off, Blaine was glad to finally be off that place, it had seemed like a lifetime since he had joined the Roisin and been stranded on the Baroness. Blaine followed the people, and it seemed that there would finally be some other signs of life onboard the vessel, as they walked towards noise. |

Stephanie shivered a little when the echoing groan of the ship disengaging from the station shook her on her feet, the booming voice of Mr Nuts far closer than she'd expected. Turning to face him, offering up a bleak smile as, the young girl nodded with courtesy. "Of course." Then to her companion. "Hear that? Private sit down with the Captain. Honoured guests, I think." Her words were playful. Her mindset - far from it. Something was already amiss and there was no way for her to know just what it was. Either way, caution would no doubt get her through it. That, the cold steel of a handgun on her hip and the hulking, walking mountain that was her new colleague. She'd been through worse. Steph followed Mr Nuts then with a playful nudge into Blaine's side that said 'keep your eyes open', heading for the ladder that went up to the next level. |

Their rather strange new friend had managed to fly up the ladder despite his less than atheltic apperance, and was already moving across the decking which over looked the floor below. As the pair followed, the sounds of cheerful banter grew, as well as the occasional 'sir'. Upon reaching the top of the ladder, it was clear this had been used as a prison ship before coming under the command of Captain Haverlock. Below them were dozens of people, scattered between various bunks, some slept while others sat whispering to one another, there must have been at least 20 of them. Mr. Nuts poked his head out from a door further along the decking, which turned off to the right into a huge, otherwise sealed room. "Waitin' for a written invitation are we?" he asked with a gleeful voice, before disappearing back inside. |

Blaine passed by Athena, following their guide through the large, open airlock hatch with a new keenness. As he turned the corner he was greeted by the small shape that was Captain Haverlock. The man stood there, all five foot of him, with a look that seemed to cut right through you. Glancing up and down at Blaine he quickly added. "Not that I don't like to look of you, but it is at this point that my common sense requires an ident check." Blaine glared sideways to Athena, pulling the card from his wallet silently and offering it to the Captain. A uniformed man stepped forward from behind a console, taking both his and Athena's cards, which were then scanned. A few moments later the man moved across the bridge, stepping behind the Captain and whispering something in his ear. "Very good Mr. Drumm." he said with a confident nod, looking back to his two new passengers. "You're clean, perhaps your husband here would enjoy a tour of the ship..." he began, meeting Blaine's gaze as his mouth began to open in protest, before adding "...I insist." And with that, Blaine was escorted off the bridge by a rather enthusiastic looking Mr. Nuts. Haverlock then turned his smiling face to Athena. "Mr. Nuts mentioned you were anxious to get out to the Rim, no destination in particular. I simply wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't ask: why?" |

The entire time Stephanie had been watching, analysing, every action that the crew members took. When Blaine was escorted away she didn't protest, but waved a simple goodbye to him as if it was quite an understandable request to separate them. Her internal alarm bells were ringing though and the young lady resisted the temptation to place one hand on her piece. No need to bring attention to it. In fact she crossed her arms carefully as the Captain began to speak, the bottom of her fatigue jacket brushing over the handgun to steal it from sight. The bottom of the holster was still poking out at the bottom of her thigh, though."It's a long story, Captain, but I'm most honoured to be aboard your vessel here. Thank you, truly, for taking as along for the ride."She shifted her weight from one leg over to the other, feigning the nervous yet giddy first-time spacer look. "As far as travel goes, the man and I were off to see some new worlds. You know, see about a quieter life. Got some old friends out there in the Black we thought could use a visit." She deliberately refused to give a straight answer, though the babble seemed to come out coherently. It was much easier to uphold a farce when those being deceived never had a clear idea about what was happening on the surface. |

"A quieter life out on the Rim." he repeated aloud with a warm smile. "It almost sounds romantic. Very good." he added, glancing back to Mr. Drumm and motioning him back over. "While you're sure to escape the hussle, bustle and general chaos of the Core, I think you'll find the Rim shall provide a whole new type of 'noise' for you to deal with." said the Captain, the smile slowly fading from his face and returning to his usual un-nerving glare. "Life out here is not easy, it carries no value other than years survived. Even then age comes at a price." he added, turning to take back the two ident cards from the man before returning them to Athena with a gracious nod. "Mr. Nuts will take fine care of your husband, show him all the worst smelling parts of this honourable vessel." he stated with the faintest hint of a grin. "In the meantime I'm sure you'd like to get settled, find yourself a bunk, unpack and such?" he asked in a way that didn't quite come out as question, more of an open ended direction. Behind Athena, two security personnel appeared with her and Blaine's belongings in hand. |

Michelle "Mikey" Sanchez stood over the simple stove, sweat starting to bead on her forehead as she worked at the early meal prep. She smiled to herself thinking of the appreciation that would be coming from the passengers when they discovered her culinary skills. Most times, they would only have various protein pastes to contend with. But she had ways to spice up that concoction to satisfy even the most finicky of tastebuds. She wiped her forehead with the sleeve of her gown, brushing down the full apron in front and flicking bits of splatter off the front onto the floor. Her chef's knife sliced over and over against the pseudo carrot, dicing it into fine little shreds. These she added to the broth simmering on the back burner. A quick taste of the mixture gave her satisfaction that it was all coming together. Setting the knife into the wooden block, she turned to the cutting board and began rolling the soft tortillas with a mixture of meat paste and bits of vegetables. Placing them side by side into a casserole dish for later. She stepped back and took a breath, placing her hands on her hips, and licking a dribble of sauce from her lower lip. Glancing down, she admired her figure. Felt confident in her abilities and her position on board this well equipped vessel. Her left hand twitched in a nervous tick. Time enough for Love. |

"Of course." Athena returned the smile to the Captain as he joked about their destination. It was true enough and she didn't plan to hide it - their motives for retreating to the Rim were questionable. That's what the wad of cash was for. So far, everything in hand, it seemed that the cash had done it's work, too. A chat with the Captain, though - maybe just his way of saying 'I know you're here'. It didn't bother her either way. As long as the journey was uneventful. "Well, thank you for your hospitality, Captain. I'll take my leave." She hid any sign of surprise to see that the pair had been separated - where Blaine would end up was anyone's guess. It was more than likely he'd be back by her side within the hour, but Athena had struggled in recent years to drown out that inner skeptic. She turned to face the security officers who had her belongings in hand and gave a polite smile 'thankyou' to them each. "Please, lead the way gentlemen." She followed, keeping her eyes wary, looking for something, anything, that may have been out of place. The chunky steel of her handgun still safely by her hip was all the reassurance she needed. Sure, it was their boat, but if push came to shove, she was still in control. At least, she thought she was. |

One of the uniformed men flashed Athena a quick grin as he took her baggage, while the other escorted her off the Bridge and toward the lower deck ladders. The Captain leaned back in his chair and sighed. "So her travelling companion is a known hunter and she's just as sweet as apple pie. Keep an eye on her Drumm." he said quietly to the man by his side, then turned his attention back to the wall of screens which displayed the ships status and course. "Bring us around toward the belt via that gas giant, a slight deviation from the original course but I'm feeling lucky today." he commanded with as much gusto as he could muster. Meanwhile, Blaine found himself sealed into one of the engine access chambers with Mr. Nuts. "And ya see this one? That there's a home-made compression coil. Not sure if you know this but thems a right pi to replicate. Managed to make this one from scratch!" he declared excitedly to an ever silent, less than impressed Blaine. Now on the lower decker, one of the uniformed men peeled off and headed toward the front of the vessel while the other continued escorting Athena toward the aft. "So, enjoying your trip?" the remaining guard asked, breaking a somewhat awkward silence. "I mean eh, it's a nice ship...." he began, glancing about as he spoke and trailing off as the reality of the situation sunk in. "Food's not bad." he decided on with a warm smile. "Morning chow call should be soon enough. Not sure what time it was where ya departed from, but out here we run on Rim time, makes the trips that bit easier." The man slid one of the unlocked gates aside and headed toward the sleeping quarters. The sound of actual life increased with each step. Turning a corner toward the portside of the vessel, Athena was greeted with the sight of three giggling children chasing one another between a series of empty bunks. Somewhere in the distance a voice called out testingly. "Kids? This isn't funny...." which did little to stop their laughter. The guard turned to Athena and nodded "This is it, best bunks on the ship, least used anyway. Just grab one that tickles your fancy and if anyone bothers you just holler for me. Name's Dave." |

Mikey finished up the morning preparation of fake eggs, meat spread and salsa rolled into tortillas with sides of steamed rice soup. She slid four such collections into small plastic partitioned plates and those onto a tray. The rest she gathered onto a rolling cart. "Bridge crew should be gettin' hungry 'bout now. I'll serve them first. Then the customers." She chatted softly to herself as she balanced the tray under her left arm and made her way through the connecting corridor toward the mid section. Glancing to the side as she passed the observation deck, she took a quick glance down onto the small gathering of passengers. Then she was past and entering the bridge proper. A smile greeted her as she passed the tray around to the bridge personnel. Brief comments on her food brought a smile to her face and she accepted the jibs with grace. Once done there, she went back to the mess and gathered the food cart. |

Steph took note of their journey, where the pair turned and where the other security officer disappeared to. Retracing her steps, if need be, was never hard for her hyperactive senses. She gave a quiet smile to the three girls, wondering just how many other passengers were on board, let alone children. At least she wasn't alone, as it had first seemed. Though Blaine was nowhere to be seen, Athena grimaced at the sight of her bunk. She'd surprisingly slept, and lived, in worse places. "Thanks for that, Dave." She turned, giving him a genuine smile and held out one hand to formally acquaint the two. He seemed on the level. "Name's Stephanie." She grabbed her baggage, hauling it across to one of the bunks by the wall, and left it idling at the end of the bed before turning back to the man. "This morning meal - where might that be held?" She asked, assuming her earlier recon had already sighted the eatery. |
