It has been two long months since events on board the IAV Ziggurat. Now it's just called The Fall. Having survived the chaos of Verbena and making it off world alive, Ian Dugan and Tobias Hawke find themselves staring up at the night sky of the planet Ghost, a nearby gas giant, the aptly named Zeus, sat lazily on the horizon. Things had gotten rather messy in the Kalidasa sector of late, and the small planet was now being used to dispose of the various remains. The air stank of death, a scent the pair were all too familiar with now. It shouldn't be long now... Roughly 300 miles above, the Glory slowly dipped into the planets orbit and began their descent. Captain Becker stood on the bridge, trying to catch a glimpse through the think clouds below. Having spent weeks trying to locate Ian, break the blockade somehow and rescue them, but with no luck. Just as he was about to give up, a coded Cortex message bounced to the ship, with only a set of co-ordinates. He hoped it wasn't a trap, Niska just rubbing it in, but something felt right this time, like maybe this could be for real.... |

Requiem for a Hawke
|
(OOC: Moving Trina with her permission.) There was a very soft chuckle from the young doctor, but it faded quickly. She stepped away quietly, preparing the diagnostic tools and monitors she'd need to affix to Hawke. Every now and then, Trina would glance back at Hawke, and if she could catch his eye, smile reassuringly. Every time she glanced back, however, she took in more of his damaged form, and her heart sank a little further. He was 'broken', but he was still 'working' - she hadn't come across this type of thing on Glory, if ever. She wanted to help him - she'd want to help anyone who was suffering, but Hawke... She didn't really know where to even begin. She turned, again in silence, giving the monstrous man a colder, more analytical eye. Approaching, she fearlessly reached out, taking him gently by the jaw, turning his head this way and that with a soft, cold touch. Tobias recoiled from the touch, but she lingered, and he seemed to begrudgingly accept. Pacing around, Trina took in his wounds, inspecting the mechanical structure on his back in greater detail. She brushed it gently, but Hawke didn't seem to feel it - not that she was surprised. The slightest of winces came as her fingers ran along the cold, pulsing metal spine. She briefly examined the ports at the top of his spine, raising an eyebrow - they were class 5 advanced bioports - so said the labels around them - the kind of tech you'd only see in the dead center of the Core. She shook her head. "Unfortunately, Glory isn't equipped to even begin dealing with your level of... Advancement." She smirked. Pacing around again, her boots clicking in the otherwise silent bay, she found Hawke's glinting amber eyes locked on hers, studying her from his slumped position. She smiled across at him - she would have smiled down at him, but even slouched, his head height matched hers. It was like a tiger, a cold, calculating tiger staring out of a cage at a passerby... "So, lay down... Er, as best you can. We'll just have to scan you like the rest of us mortals." She smirked again, somehow managing to remain plucky and calm in the presence of a monster. In silence, Hawke begrudgingly laid down, his limbs, all three of them, hanging off the table. He shuffled his legs together and rested his arm on his chest. Immediately, Trina stuck some small pads to his chest, head, and finally, his abs. Her hands lingered briefly, as she professionally affixed the small sticky pad to his body, making sure it was perfectly in place and pressed down - an accurate reading was important, after all. Hawke gulped, and the young doctor drew her hands away, turning to the scanner with every ounce of professionalism a good doctor would have. Tobias simply laid there with a raised eyebrow. "Trina." She said, suddenly. Hawke craned his neck slightly, turning back when he realised at this height, all he got was a good view of the good doctor's rear. "... Don't really need to introduce myself, do I." Tobias grumbled. "Why would you think that?" The snapping of a few heavy switches being flicked rang in Toby's ears, and something dropped in his stomach - the kind of gutteral panic a normal man would feel at the sound of a gun's hammer cocking. "We haven't been introduced, have we?" The scanner pinged, and began making all kinds of noises. Satisfied, Trina scooted the shifting chair toward her with a boot, and sat, turning to watch Hawke. The man's chest rose and fell, a single sigh - she was right... "Tobias... Hawke. A pleasure, Doc... Trina." He grumbled. For a brief moment, there was silence, as Trina smiled, and Hawke turned to gaze at her. A sudden, blaring 'BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE' rang out from the scanner, and lights began flashing on it. Trina snapped to the machine, then back to Hawke. She sat there for a moment, staring at him with a knit brow and wide eyes, before somewhat-less calmly rising to the scanner. Still staring at the readouts of the machine, Trina's trained hands immediately found Hawke's throat, pressing gently into one side with two fingers. "I don't... Y-You're going critical?!" Flipping switches on the scanner, a few more alarms rang out, and Trina's eyes went wider still. She scampered around the far side of the table, diving for a drawer with containing syringes and vials. Just as she managed to open the draw, the cacophany of alarms merged into a single, low 'beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' - the sound of someone flatlining. Her head snapped around, and she found Hawke sitting, elbow on his knee, with one of the pads in his hand, and a small, harmless grin on his face. "Eaaasy Doc... I'm fine..." He cooed. "You're in severe bradycardia-" In a whirlwind, Trina strode past Hawke to the monitors. "And you're... What?" She turned, the situation sinking in slowly, taking in Hawke's calm demeanour, relaxed posture and smile. "You're displaying a pain reaction that should have you writhing on the floor - your heart rate is bottoming out at 25bpm..." She took a small penlight from her person, and brandished it at Hawke's face. His pupils almost vanished in reaction - so quickly for a brief moment Trina forgot she was looking at a man's eyes, and thought she was looking at an animal. She flicked the light back and forth, and the pupils bounced back and forth like camera lenses almost... "Consistent dilation, no temperature spikes... Hm." Hawke's grin grew only slightly. Finally, Trina reached over and flicked a switch, silencing the incessant flatline whine, before looking back to Hawke. Her light blinked off. "Care to explain yourself, Mr Hawke?" The young doctor intoned. She may not have taken too kindly to being lead around as such, especially with such a panic. "Would if I could, darlin'. They jus' do that." "Organs don't just 'do that' - You can't just-..." Trina sighed, rubbing her eyes. "Would you care to explain why you're not drooling on my medbay floor, howling in pain as your readout says you should be?" Hawke just shrugged. "Comes and goes, I guess? I dunno, might be the arm arcin' out constantly - Can't really feel it anyway - look, can we get back to the spine? It's a bit urgent." Trina cocked a head with an incredulous look on her face and a raised brow, but she quickly regained her demeanour. Something was very wrong with this man. She turned on her heel. "I'm afraid the medbay will be your home for the time being aboard Glory - I'm going to be running scans for days..." She sighed. Something pinged on the machine. "You're a very broken man, Mr Ha-" "Tobias." "... Tobias." Trina perused the readings. Hawke spied a syringe she had kept hold of from the far side of the room, and his smile faded. "Well... It seems I've got some bad news and some good news..." She tapped her chin idly with the penlight in one hand. Hawke's fists clenched. "Bad news is I have no idea what's wrong with you, and I'll need to find out in order to help you. The good news-" "And my spine?!" He growled, suddenly. "... The good news," Trina turned with an ever so slightly smug smile on her face, resting a hand on Hawke's bare shoulder. "Is that your spine seems fine from initial scanning. It'll take me a bit longer to determine-" As she spoke, Trina turned back to the readout, and suddenly every scan flatlined. Flicking her gaze back to Hawke, the mountain of a man had begun pulling the sensor pads off his body. Whipping her hands out and shaking her head, Trina pressed against the last sensor pad on Hawke's chest, splaying her hands out to prevent him from taking it, while very gently trying to keep him seating. "No no! Tobias, you need to stay here for now, you're far too damag-" A very large, grizzled and scarred hand came to rest on Trina's, prying them away with little effort - the tiny sensor pad with it. "Y'know damn well you can't stop me..." He growled in a... Curiously restrained way. Trina sighed, shoulders sinking down as his words sunk in. In a flurry of movement, Hawke seemed to launch up, and there was little Trina could do to stop him. "Tobias, please - I can't help you if you don't let me." "Didn't ask fer help. Jus' fer information." He threw on his shirt, buttoning it up with mechanical speed as Trina backed away. Coat, bandana, hat and glove, and in less than a minute, the Verse's Most Wanted Man stood before the young Doctor, just as he had entered. "Thanks for yer time, Doc." As if none of it had happened at all. "I appreciate it, really." He shot the young doc the smallest of smiles, then made for the door.
In that same breath, the very devil himself stormed out of the medbay at full height, a dark tower moving away from a stunned and silent Trina. He made to cut a beeline straight between the two figures in conversation, letting his feet carry him along a path he did not know - toward the galley, apparently. "All yours, Skippy." Hawke growled to the man who had stood watch outside the door, whom the unidentified woman was speaking to. "But you WERE asking for help..." Trina huffed, slapping down the plastic syringe onto the table with a sigh. |

Biff could only imagine the answer that would come from the bundle of surprises Sonya is. "I don't know where does -" Hawke strode out of the medbay. "Well good to see you up and about." Biff tipped the brim of a hat he wasn't wearing at Hawke and looked in to see Trina's frustrated look and then turned back to Sonya. "Anywhere he wants?" He gave a chuckle and waited to hear Sonya's reaction before making his way towards the galley. |

Karyn shook her head slowly. "No. Not going after the Captain. Besides, I get the idea he and Sonya had a thing, and it might be too spooky for him; me being a spitting image an all." She turned back to the console to ensure the ship was on course and the general collision alarm was set before sliding out of the seat. "We're on auto, so maybe we could head to the galley and grab a bite along with the rest of the crew. " |

Remy aimlessly checked the cupboards, he knew how to cook, but when he had a full array of food stuffs to work with, being on a ship, most of the food stuffs concerned protein bars, and mainly stuff which would keep for long periods of time, hardly anything that would make for a "banquet" that the Captain deserved. Plus, it was mainly Trina's idea, and he didn't want to step on any toes, so he just checked the cupboards, for no real reason other than to keep himself busy. He then started to get the kitchen equipment out, and started by lining them up, making them ready to use. Remy was soon joined by Ian and Sonya, and Biff. Remy stood there awkwardly, not really knowing what to do or say, Remy believed he was the reason that Ian was lost to the crew for a short while, Remy had been given a job, and he had failed at it. Remy didnt look the Captain in the eye, and just kept on looking at the cutlery, moving them around, making sure they were at a perfect right angle. Inanimate objects, things that were of his control, he liked that. It had been so long since he had done 'a job' that people felt strange to him, which was weird considering his occupation. People needed Remy for his job, but that was exactly that, they came to him, in his own environment, a place he 'controlled' for the most part, but ever since going 'on the run' many things, and many people had been out of his control. |

Her face lit up at the lame joke, her eyes sparkled. "Yep." she said. Her eyes turned away from Biff to watch Hawke stride down the hall with steps that seemed to take two strides for one. "Isn't he hurt, er crippled. Uh, broken?" When the others headed forward, Gulliver moved on to the galley as well. |

The Bridge "You go ahead. I'll stay here for a while." Without people to keep him active there was much to think about, and as choice was given to him, He chose the later. "Besides I gotta check up on the Tobias situation. Make sure you save a couple of plates." He was thinking of himself and Trina being late to dinner, unaware they Hawke had already checked himself out of med bay. Becker released a sigh like breath and stared out into the black, stoney eyed. Edited by Becker, Jun 17 2013, 03:24 AM.

Ian saw the look on Remy's face and he walked to the man. "Seems the time I looked we had some protein mix just about ... here. Damn. They move it." He had poked around in the cupboard for a few seconds, sure that he could help. He move one last item out of the way "Vou-la!" he exclaimed as he pulled out a bottle of Scotch that was covered in dust. He leaned into the man and whispered. "This is non-alcoholic. We finished the real stuff years ago. Don't let on." He winked and turned to those in the room. "I purpose a toast." He turned back to Remy, taking note of the man. "Help me get some cups to the table" He saw the way he stood, the shape of the man, his soft face and strong looking yet slender hands. Either he's sly or he's a Companion. I can use a man with the latter talent. So how to broach the subject, cause if he is Sly then I'll have ta make him a passenger. he thought. |

The Captain walked in, he had a air of confidence about him, a certain natural charisma, something which was necessary in a Captain, you had to believe in him, and Remy to a certain extent did. The Captain told him that it was non-alcoholic and Remy smiled, helping the Captain with the glasses after being asked, taking them over to the table, and placing them down in order for the "whiskey" to be poured into it. On the side of the room, on the counters, were the food stuffs that Remy had placed there, in order to make, or at least, prep "the feast" that was meant to a 'welcome back' meal for the Captain, and Remy looked around the room, as more and more people came into it. People whom he had "lived with" for a while, but hadn't really gotten to know. This had been the longest he had been on a ship, and Remy was glad of it, especially after all the running he had done prior to getting on the Glory. |

Karyn put her hand on Mike's shoulder as she left. "I'll save a seat. Don't get too lost out there." She nodded at the windscreen and the glistening star pattern outside. As she entered the galley, the others were settling in with food laid out on the counter and Ian and Remy pouring out drinks. She spotted Sonya at one side and moved over toward her. A sideways glance told the other woman that there was an understood peace between them while in the common area. "Mike asked me to hold a place for him. Care to join us at the table?" She moved to the counter and picked up a plate and started filling it with various food stuff that looked at least palatable. |

Biff nodded. "Yeah I just think he keeps forgetting." With a smile he entered the galley and took up a seat where his back wasn't given to any entrance. He grabbed an apple and started to eat it. They would not be good for long and he enjoyed the luxury. Biff saw Remy retreat in the presence of Ian emotionally by the look in his eyes. He wondered what that was about. Either Ian had been a client at one time or his friend blamed himself for what happened two months ago. I'll have to ask him about that later. In the meantime he smiled. Everyone was gathering together. a complete crew again and then some. It was nice. |

"Mike asked me to hold a place for him. Care to join us at the table?" Karyn moved to the counter and picked up a plate and started filling it with various food stuff that looked at least palatable. "Maybe." She was looking Remy up and down. He seemed strangly vulnerable again, like back on the station when the gose was hitting the blades. "I think I might do a little fishing, only so much ... I can burn off . . lifting weights and kicking your ass does goes so far." which was of course a joke. Karyn had been teaching Sonya to fight, but Gulliver was still a flounding freestyling twit. She didn't move right away, she waited for some snotty or better yet, slutty response. They'd discussed the dry spell of two months on a ship of testosteronie enhances males. And now there was a cyborg, the jokes they made about that, and the Captain. "You really should see about getting the Captain naked." Then Gulliver stood talk and stalked her way to Remy. He'd been a gentleman on the ship, concerned about how she was doing. Rutting truly sincerely concerned. Sonya wasn't sure, she wanted him to check personally, but there was this thing with Jenna. But she'd decided that wasn't a thing. At least not a thing that was going to stop her.

Requiem for a Hawke
|
He had vanished almost mid-step, passing around a bend on the stairs - like a ghost. As people began to gather in the galley, a sense of normalcy began to return to the ship, to Glory. There was a vague feeling of happiness. Then, like a crack of lightning, but before the thunder, a tower darkened the entry to the galley, but only for the briefest of seconds. Tobias Hawke, all 6'7" of the most wanted man in the 'Verse, strode into the busy galley, apparently not aware it was busy. Browncoat and shirt sleeve rolled up, Hawke was inserting the mangled remains of his robotic limb, now no more than a glorified extendable cutlass, into its shoulder socket; a little ruckus came in the form of sparks and some smoke, but as he twitched it up and down to ensure it was fitted, he realised, finally, that the galley was full of people. There was a long pause. Hawke wondered many things in the brief moment he scanned the room. One of the more notable thoughts was if it would be less awkward if he drew his weapon. It would, but that wouldn't help the situation any. Slowly, he began rolling down his browncoat sleeve until it was past the arm, to which he then simply looked as if he simply lacked an arm from the elbow down. He turned, slowly, to find the Captain in the room. "Crosseye." He growled - or perhaps it was his usual voice, it just always seemed to sound like a growl, though Ian would know otherwise. After he locked eyes on Ian, Hawke seemed to actively pay the rest of those present no mind - he clearly had no intent on joining dinner... Or even interacting with the crew at large. "Need a place to hide from that pretty lady Doctor o' yours - her hands're colder than the Winter Campaign... Where's your engine room?" His volume dropped after calling to catch the Captain's attention. Striding over toward the man, he paused before the Captain and sniffed the air. "What're ya servin' that swill fer? Ain't a drop of alcohol in that cup..." He grumbled more to himself than even the Captain. |

Karyn snorted at the suggestion. Then with a twitch of an eyebrow looked directly at Sonya. "I didn't think that appropriate with you and he having a child. Is that all over with now? Not that I'd throw him out of my bed..." Then she took a seat and draped her jacket over an adjacent chair to claim it for Mike. She settled into the various bits of meat and vegetables on her plate. She watched sideways as the others stabbed and scraped at their food. Not that I haven't seen hungry soldiers before... and smiled weakly at the memory. Then things got dark for a moment as a huge hulk filled the doorway. The Browncoat entered, sparks trickling down his half filled sleeve as he approached Ian. Some comments passed between them, and Karyn felt the small hairs on the back of her neck raising in instinctual alert. Her eyes hardened and narrowed in deep focus as she tracked his every movement. So this was the Monster of the Black. She felt her heart skip and her blood pressure increase as he came slightly nearer. She swallowed some bile along with the celery bits that were currently in her mouth. She gagged and took a sip of the weak drink from the cup in front of her. It was a distraction and broke her concentration. |

Med bay seemed hollow and cold as Trina looked down at the readings that had been recorded. They couldn't be right. He was walking, talking and while he was in pain, he gave no indication that he was breathing his last. Despite what the medical readings said. None of it added up and it all left her sitting down on the chair, her eyes vacantly fixed on the hand held clutched in her hands in her lap. Distantly, her mind recalled having thought about making dinner but there was a faint scent of food in the air. Remy, or someone else, had seen to it. And somehow, she didn't have the heart to join the crew just yet. The very idea of food seemed to turn her stomach after what she'd seen. It wasn't that she saw a monster. She saw what a monster had done to someone. Done to Tobias. And that scared her more than he did. |

Becker had suffered time alone the bridge, contemplating blame and responsibility as it concerned Cole, Tobias and himself. It wasn't easy thinking, and a rash need for distraction some him raise and head from the bridge. His target the medbay to catch up on the latest. Upon hitting the med-bay, Mike caught glimpse of Trina and knew instinctively what to do. Though he considered himself innept at knowing how to deal with others, this seemed obvius and he was quickly next to her and wrapping his arms around her. The look on her face had expressed an unspoken need for it. He held her securely, allowing her head to rest on his chest. For a moment thought wasn't necessary, but he was soon left wondering what brought this on. "Tobias?" Who seemed more apt. |

Trina had risen as Mike had crossed to her and put her arms around him, hand held still clutched in one hand. Silence hung over them for a little while and she was so very grateful that he had come when he had. Somehow, he'd known she needed him even before her own mind had flashed the realization. She heaved a heavy sigh when the one word, one name question came from him. Instead of looking up, she held him tighter. "Yes... and no. Not something he did. Something that was done to him." The words couldn't possibly make sense to anyone who hadn't seen what she'd seen. Even so, they almost didn't make sense to her. "He doesn't want my help. Walked out." Mike hadn't really been away from her for that long, but in the present moment, she felt like it had been far, far too long since he'd hugged her this close. Slowly, she took a deep breath and finally looked up. "I don't know what's going on with him, but the readings I took... he should be dying, not walking around." |

Mike's brow had furrowed. He'd walked the man back to the ship and not found major cause for concern with relation to Tobias. Perhaps because concern was hard given, but Hawke had displayed a tenacity which signalled some level of well-being. "He's a stubborn hoon dahn. Some things stay consistent." Despite being a new man, that trait held. Maybe it was the universal factor that made him him. Becker leaned his head down, finding the positioning to plant a kiss on Trina's forehead. "You did what you could Trina. He's set to figure out the rest himself. Don't fix yourself as the one who needs to take care of him" |

"How do you always know what to say?" Trina sighed, smiling ad Mike gave her forehead a kiss. Maybe he was right about not trying to fix Tobias, but the readings and implants nagged at her. There had to be something to all of it. Catching herself doing exactly what Mike suggested she not do, she grinned. "I may need to find a distraction to keep me from setting my 'medical sights' on Mr. Tobias Hawke." Already, she was laying aside her cortex and giving Mike another squeeze. |

Breaking a grin, "I don't," he protested, "I let my thinking drop and get lucky." He tilted his head around so that he could lays on Trina's face and vice versa. "Plus I think you're a little sweet on me and er..." His eyes had narrowed in a mock conspiratorial way, but the slight turns at the corners of his mouth showed echos of jest. "Bias. That's the word, you're bias." Becker was just glad that whatever nonsense he could drop from his guns, seemed to distract Trina, cheer her up a little. A smile widened on his face as Trina gave him a squeeze. "I've got people waiting for us, they're saving us plates." He couldn't help it, he was already leaning forward into a kiss. "Maybe that's all the more reason to take our time." |

"We're just friends." said Sonya to Karyn, regarding Ian. "Parents." She pondered that a moment, decided to open up a bit about, 'the arrangement.' "What with Glory being in the target of... " Then Tobias entered. Sonya let her spoon rest on the plate. She'd have been more scared of the monster but the shock of the entire play was ... well, sort of comedic. Sonya smiled, amused at the whole thing. Most especially how the man talked to Ian. And ignored them. This should be interesting. 'yeah', send the bizarro terrorist to the engine room.
