It has been two long months since events on board the IAV Ziggurat. Now it's just called The Fall. Having survived the chaos of Verbena and making it off world alive, Ian Dugan and Tobias Hawke find themselves staring up at the night sky of the planet Ghost, a nearby gas giant, the aptly named Zeus, sat lazily on the horizon. Things had gotten rather messy in the Kalidasa sector of late, and the small planet was now being used to dispose of the various remains. The air stank of death, a scent the pair were all too familiar with now. It shouldn't be long now... Roughly 300 miles above, the Glory slowly dipped into the planets orbit and began their descent. Captain Becker stood on the bridge, trying to catch a glimpse through the think clouds below. Having spent weeks trying to locate Ian, break the blockade somehow and rescue them, but with no luck. Just as he was about to give up, a coded Cortex message bounced to the ship, with only a set of co-ordinates. He hoped it wasn't a trap, Niska just rubbing it in, but something felt right this time, like maybe this could be for real.... |

Trina turned from the counter with her bag as the strange hissing sound from the hallway grew louder and louder as it clearly approached the medbay. Placing her bag on the secondary bed, she was very nearly to the door when the doorway darkened, top to bottom. A man she didn't know then all but staggered in on top of her, leaving her to side step and stumble out of the way. He was clearly in bad shape, and not just unsteady on his feet. The proffered apology was waived off as she again approached. "Medical emergencies always take precedence. All other plans can be put on hold." Is this the one they called Tobias? she wondered to herself even as she reached to help him out of his coat. Her own imaginings had him larger than he truly was, though he was still an impressive size compared to herself. She offered him what she hoped was a reassuring smile. "Somehow, the way Ian and Mike spoke of you, I was expecting someone taller." She meant it a soft jest, intended to break any tension. "Let's start with that blood on your lips. See what we can do for that and then move on." |

Ian walked in behind Tobias, just after Trina had answered his All-Comm. The ship shuttered once as it broke Atmo. He realized that the former Alliance Office would be his pilot, and was already on board and ready. The shutter came at about the time Tobias tried to take an unaided step with out the stretcher and made his stumble. "Tobias, Trina and Remy. Remy, Trina, this is Tobias." He braced himself in the doorway as the ship settled out, back in the Black and took a deep breath. "Can ya smell it, Toby? We're home." He had started calling Tobias, Toby, soon after Tobias had started calling him Crosseye. The MacKinzie's used to call him Black-Eye. It was just as bad. "Doc, we'll leave things in your capable hands. Take anyone you think can help as a second. I'll be deferring to your judgment, as well as Mike's, for the time bein. Bein as I was out of the loop for a while." He nodded once to those assembled and turned out of the Med Bay. "So, Mike. A job for our old friend, Neiska huh? How did it go? Any complications?" He began to make his way toward the Bridge. |

Becker couldn't help but roll eyes and sigh at Hawke's display, finding the over-abundance of pride unnecessary. Mike then found what was left of the man heading his way, and proceeded to lead the group up to medical. The only thing he had to deal with on the way was the slight turbulence that take off afforded. When he laid eyes on Trina, he shared a tight lipped expression that suggested all was not as he wanted. That was the most he could share before she was burdened with work. Promptly he took steps down the hallway to make way for Tobias, company and a raised stretcher. Then peered into to see work getting underway. Before being pulled away by Dugan. "Biff. Stay with your pal. Make sure his okay." It was shared somewhat warmly, but his true intention was to keep Trina safe. Against what exactly, he was unsure, just wary. A final glance to her and he moved on. Niska wasn't at the fore front of Becker's mind. "Erm, no, it was fine. Simple stuff. Not the cleanest of deals, and there was talk of help finding out captain which never came through. But the money was sound, kept us flying." Michael took stock of the lack of company then held an arm out to bring Dugan to a stop. "Tobias." He said setting the subject. He hesitated, and held himself as contemplation as he tried to say the right thing. "Are you sure about this. Is he not the guy that shot Cole? We've sworn to kill those who have done less to our crew." His mind flittered to one Tyler Lindon for his actions against a certain mechanic. |

Requiem for a Hawke
|
At more than a foot of height over the... Frankly overly-attractive young Doctor, and almost literally double her width, she earned no more than a smirk from the mountain of a man through her comments. The removal of his coat came with a good deal of reluctance - it was hard for Hawke to tell if it was simply wounds slowing him down, or that... He felt wrong without it on? As the duster came off, the Doc was given new insight into Hawke's... 'Condition'. His mostly-brown, but once pale blue shirt had large, dried patches of a colour similar to the bandana he wore around his neck - crimson, though on the shirt it was significantly more aged than the bandana. The sleeve of the right arm was rolled all the way down to the wrist, and the other sleeve was rolled up to the elbow... But nothing stuck out. Hawke grimaced as he raised his only arm and took off his hat - the harsh light of the infirmary bathing his dirt-smudge, heavy-stubbled face for the first time in a long, long time. The scars he bore seemed to stand out even more in the light, grooves and shadows along what would have otherwise been a handsome face - a face some people clearly hadn't taken kindly to in the past... "Internal..." He muttered, sounding as gravelly as they come, in response to the Doctor's querying about his lip bleeding. "Not countin' the blood nose your ship gave me, mosta that blood's from inside." He reached up to the first button on his shirt, and fumbled with it for a moment, before managing to loose it - the second one coming loose of its own accord. "Ain't the worst, either..." He wheezed a little. With the bare hand, he pulled at the cloth, revealing significant, but old bruising on his upper chest that seemed like it went much further under his shirt... And the ends of even more scars... What horrors awaited the young doctor under this man's shell? "Three ribs..." The grizzled gunslinger sighed, amber eyes turning to the ceiling as he scanned his memory. "No, Four... Fractured clavicle, splintered left shin, hip socket shattered, probably something with my shoulder blade, not rightly sure... That's all I could find out on the run, anyway..." He rolled his right shoulder gently. His fingers grazed the left side of his chest. "And then the tertiary bolting's come loose, welds are shattered, the casing's entirely wrecked... Sensory and pain receptors went haywire..." He seemed to shudder at the last part. Finally, he looked down, and gave the smallest of smiles - the smallest of hopeful smiles to the very pretty young doctor. "Just hopin' to the gods above it didn't start to pull out of my spine..." He tried a chuckle, only to turn away suddenly and hack up half a lung into the crook of his only elbow - a spot now dampened with a dark splotch, and his lips again touched with blood. His cryptic talk of metals and wires and casings and receptors... What did he think he was, a robot? He seemed even more reluctant to remove his shirt any further, and it became hard for Tobias to meet the Doctor's gaze. Edited by Balketh, May 30 2013, 03:24 AM.

Once in the medical bay Biff chose a cozy corner and pulled a stool over and sat down. Biff gave a slight chuckle at that. Trina had the guts to make light of the most wanted man in the Verse. She was a pistol in a firecracker all right and Biff was glad she was on their side. Already he had seen her skills as a healer and she was amazing. It was nice to be patched up by someone competent for a change. Biff nodded. He had every intention of staying with the newcomer. Not so much as guard but as curious bystander. This man in front of him had been mangled and mauled. Destroyed by the Alliance and whoever else was involved in his "upgrading". The man was a stranger even unto himself. |

Karyn watched as the windscreen filled with stars. The Black is and always has been her home. Since she was a child, brought up out of the heaviness of a gravity well, sitting next to her father as he piloted the shuttle up to a high orbit station. The glory of all those pin points of light; the smear of the galaxy swathed diagonally across the span of the port looking out into the ever night; the thin crescent of Ghost below and the majesty of the gas giant beyond. It all made some kind of sense to her. A sense of belonging. She nodded to Sonya as the other woman adjusted the slight imbalance between the two powerplants that held them tight against the terrific pull of Ghost's gravity. The Glory shook off the last of the planet's hold as she tucked its nose away from the planet below and the gas giant beyond, pointing outward, ever outward and urged the thrusters just a tad more. The ship slipped away from the planet and its satellites and headed into the deeper black ahead. "Did Ian or Mike indicate what our next destination should be? Or do we just pick a star and go for it? " There was a smirk on her face as she faced her twin. |

'why be here now?' They'd got back Dugan, so now it was Glory again. So they'd be doing something foolish or stupid. Maybe not, maybe both. But dangerous. Someone would die. Of course, they could just work jobs off the grid. They were doing just fine with that. Raw materiels from her contacts on Greenleaf, Remy seemed to know all manner of people that would like to hire a ship that didn't exist. And Niska and Badger. She didn't like them. Pompous and overblown. Always trouble. But good money. It might be time to move on. She looked at Karyn. More to learn though. The fighting. Instead of bringing back fighters to her haven on Greenleaf, she could learn. Why not? She was in the best shape of her life again. Something restored her to peak form. And fast. yeah... 'something'. Hand to hand from Karyn, arms from Biff. Smoochy smooth talking from Remy, 'god that man needed a good rut, or she needed one from him'. Like there'd be a difference. And now there was Ian and electro wiz-bot cyborglatron. Yes, she needed to keep learning. Or was that an excuse to stay? "Did Ian or Mike indicate what our next destination should be? Or do we just pick a star and go for it? " There was a smirk on her Karyn's face as she looked at Sonya. Gulliver forced a smile from her deep doubtful thoughts. 'stay up.' She looked at Karyn. "No one said anything." She looked back to see if anyone was coming on the bridge. Sonya could hear someone approaching, she'd left the door open. "Naturally I'm for Greenleaf." Gulliver waited until she heard Dugan right on the door to the bridge. She repeated the end of a story she'd already told Karyn. "... and then Captain Dugan was here, lickety split on the bridge he shows up. Naked as the day he was born; well, not really as the day he was born. He'd grown a bit." Sonya suppressed a laugh as she looked out at the stars. |

Outside of Bridge
"I do believe it is. But, put yerself in his place. His ship was attacked, folk were all but dead around him and then he's runin toward an escape pod only to see the shadow of several armed people." He paused.
He poked his head into the Bridge proper, a smile on his lips. "Nah...I came out fully grown, Like Artemis from the head of Zeus. Fully grown, armed and armored. A mean and dangerous man." He pulled back into the hall and faced Mike once again, the smile gone as if it never had been there. "What would you have done? Cole died because the people that had Anders were evil and attacked first. We just got in the way. ... Tobias is crew and all crew deserve a second chance. That's all I'm askin Mike. Give him his chance. If he blows it, I'll pop a bullet in his Brain pan myself." He put his hand on the taller man's shoulder. "Can ya do that Mike?" He was not blind to all the troubles that Tobias brought with him, but he was crew, what else could he do. |

Glancing aside to Ian and Mike before they both left, she nodded to them and relayed a look of reassurance to both that she would be fine. Then, her attention returned to Tobias. Once the jacket came free and without really thinking about it, she gently folded it and laid it aside on the secondary bed. The internal bleeding she had guessed at, but the list of injuries Tobias began rattling off gave her a slowly clearing picture of what she was up against. When at last his words trailed off, she put one hand on the large man's shoulder and pressed her lips together. With her other hand, she gently reached to take the hat from his hand. "I know someone... someone I can trust... that can give me information regarding artificial limbs. If you'll let me, I can contact them and learn what I can about trying to repair that for you. Your name will never come up." Around her, the medical bay faded, the fog of memory drawing forward the image of the clinic. The beds were simpler, the walls wooden and Tobias became less the monster and terror so many others had portrayed him and just another hurting, wounded soul in need of help. "As to the rest, the internal bleeding may well heal itself, but we'll want to watch it." Pausing, her pale eyes studied the man's face, her head tilting slightly to one side. "You look as if you could sleep for a week," she finally said. While his injuries were harsh, the first cure she could see that was in most dire need was the simplest: rest. "I can give you something to help with the pain, but it will likely put you to sleep. I can check you over while you sleep, and let you rest. If anything is critical though, I'll need your permission before you fall asleep to deal with it immediately." |

As Ian poked his head in, made his defense and popped back out, Karyn shook her head at Sonya. "Would think that would have been hard on his mom, what with a full suit of armor and all. Or do you think she split her sides laughing?" She turned back toward the nav comp and plotted in a course for Greenleaf, just to see what it would take in duration. "If nothing else, Greenleaf would be fine with me as well. A little R&R and get settled up with our various needs." |

Becker considered Dugan's words, trying to pin justification to Hawke's actions. There was a line of sense to it, but Mike struggled to commit. If only it was Cole and the complicated chain of events that the XO had involved himself in. Gaze fell to the floor and his head shook. A hand on his shoulder brought his view back up to meet the eyes of Glory's captain. A second chance. Understanding. Something akin to forgiveness. Becker wasn't sure he could offer any of these. But, after some hesitation and a diplomatic choosing of words, "I can follow your lead Ian." The XO was prepared to follow his captain anywhere, whatever the weather. "So." Becker stepped forward, further onto the bridge and onto the next subject. "Straight back into the swing of things? Want I should line up some work?" After a brief spell in the captain's chair, Mike had become capable of dealing with many of the ships affairs. Acquiring jobs was one of them, and it was something that made him feel more worthy of his current position than he had previously. |

Sonya tried to think of some clever retort. She knew Artemis and Zeus were gods when they were still on Earth that Was. But the birth myth she was clueless to. Karyn popped in with one though, "Yeah. If his mama can laugh at his grand entrances, why not ever'one?" At the flight plan laid out she took one of her more serious looks at her look-a-like. Maybe she could... - When they stopped at Greenleaf after the fall, Sonya had helped them meet some contacts; then she went off. Alone. While the ship loaded up with illegal natural raw materials she had gone to see her son. Her other extended family. Times were hard. They needed... everything. she could ask if anyone wanted to go to a little jungle village where.... no. Don't let them in. Not there. "There's some great places in Deja Thoris City if we want to risk it this time. Been long enough, no one will think Glory if they see this Mayfair.... will they?" |

Requiem for a Hawke
|
With his bag and coat away, Hawke already felt naked. It was as if he could feel something changing in Trina's perception of him, and immediately felt cold, turning his gaze away. For a moment, he glared at the man in the corner, even though his words were directed at the doctor. "Unless you got horse tranqs," He growled, "I'll sleep when I'm dead." With a kind of gruff ham-handedness, he began to unbutton his shirt, turning his eyes from the man who'd followed him in - a guard for his time on the ship, no doubt. "Anyways, I don't need an expert - I AM an expert.... Apparently..." He said with less of a growl, eyes widening slightly as if he were... Confused? "What I need for ya t'do is... Scan my spine. I need t'know if the structural supports have started to pull free. Then I jus' need time with a... A welder." He shuddered involuntarily, but only a little - he tried his damnedest to hide it. His eyes widened just a tad more, flicking back and forth over nothing as if someone were reading his words to him, words he had never said before. "An' I'd appreciate it here if Skippy waited outside while y'did. An' dun you worry, I'm sure doc here could end me 'fore you even drew yer gun. I ain't gonna hurt a hair on her pretty head." He gave a wolfish grin to the other man, but even that was forced - the comment, not so much. Finally, he managed to get most of the buttons undone on his terribly dirty shirt. The colouring of his torso underneath... Didn't look natural, from what little could be seen. He sat, for a moment, staring off to one side of the medbay, his only hand holding the front of his open shirt together. He glared at the scruffy looking man in the corner briefly, demanding he step out with eyes alone. "Yer a professional, right?" He muttered. Without turning, a hawk's eyes flicked back to the young doctor. There was a legitimate hint of concern in his eyes. How could the 'Verse's most wanted man, the monster himself, Havoc - Dread Pirate King, the man of legends, whose name wasn't simply household known, but nightmare told, across the entire 'Verse, be nervous about taking off his SHIRT? He was clearly a fit man, there was nothing to be ashamed of..... Or... Was there? "Y'won't gawk or faint or nothin'?..." He grumbled some more. |

Biff stared off onto the floor. He was vigilant but wanting to give Hawke as much privacy as he could sitting where he was. When he heard Hawke talk about him to Trina it brought a smile to his face and another chuckle. "Hawke I can give you that. From outside I'll be able to keep others out while Trina's working. The door stays open though. No offense but in your current state you may not be too stable." Looking to Trina he said, "I'll be right outside." With that Biff took his stool out of the medbay and sat down again at the door out of visual of the wounded man. He was curious about the mans discomfort but imagined he wouldn't be any more comfortable with the entire situation if the roles were reversed. |

Remy heard the chatter over the comm link, then felt the ship shudder into life. It still took him a while to get used to the fact that they left on a moments notice, but he should have been used to that, especially with the adventures that he had before coming to the ship, he just thought that being on a ship would be different. Trina had errands to do, and Remy nodded at her, indicating that he would make a start on the food situation, he didn't want to give her any unjust worries, especially with the Captain coming back, and already there being a medical emergency. Remy walked with her to the Med Bay, was introduced to Tobias, whom he had already met on his adventures before the Glory. Remy made his way to the Kitchen, not really sure what he was to do. He randomly checked the cupboards for food, anything which would go nicely together. |

Bridge Ian nodded once and stepped into the Bridge proper. He surveyed his domain and smiled. "Mike, I think we need some actual down time first, before we get back into things." He pulled off his coat and hung it over the back of the Third seat and looked back at Mike. "You know, that was my first job onboard, when I got here. Getting us jobs. Then I was given the ship. And here you are following in my footsteps while makin yer own way." The smile on his lips reached all the way to his eyes. He looked over the charts. "Greenleaf. It's been too long. It's a good place, and we'll use the Gilgamesh IDent." He looked at Sonya and saw ... something. "Maybe no side trips this time, lest til after Tobias gets fully back on his feet." He missed his son, but he knew Sonya would keep him safe, even if that meant that he would not be seeing him for a time. He wondered if that was what Sonya was having trouble with and wondered what he could do about it. |

Once the ship waa safely in the black, Khei made a quick check around to make sure everything looked and sounded right. Satisfied that they weren't likely to run afoul, she finally emerged from the engine room and ade her way to the kitchen for a bite to eat. She stopped dead in her tracks when she spotted Remy already in the room. She'd at least met everyone but names escaped her and she had kept away from everyone for the most part, leaving them all as strangers in her mind. She swallowed hard, the usual feeling of awkwardness in social situations setting in, as she stepped into the kitchen, clearing her throat. Erm.. Dun mind me. Becker shrugged with his eyebrows."I'm all for a break. We've got the funds for it. Plus with all these changes we could use some... adjusting time." Though Becker didn't see any potential issues, a lot of the crew did have to adjust to the new captain. And he had to adjust to Tobias. A little time for that was welcome. Sonya didn't say anything, but if Ian Dugan thought they would lay over without her slipping out to her hideaway he was seriously mistaken. And if he thought she wouldn't drag him to see his son he'd ... be easily persuaded. She cocked a smiled at him with the twinkle in her eyes. "And a mechanic. Khei's helped out," or someone had been. Sonya never saw much of her, but someone was keeping the systems checked over. Which was good, she didn't do systems and software. Hardly understood the easy maintenance. "though I don't hardly get a glimpse of her. Karyn too. And ex-Captain Becker." Sonya smirked at Mike, she had a pretty good idea how happy he was to have Ian back. Friend wise and the lightening of that captainy burden.

Karyn watched the interchange with Ian and Sonya. There was something there, alright. She wondered what the future might hold for her as well. At the mention of a mechanic she grimaced. "I can handle electronics, if that's needed. Spent some time under consoles, many a time. Also hacking into systems, if that's something that might be a requirement onboard this vessel." She broke into a bigger smile. She sat back as she eyed the board, green all across the panels. She reached into her breast pocket and drew out a half smoked stogie, popping in into her mouth to crew on it without lighting. |
