It has been two long months since events on board the IAV Ziggurat. Now it's just called The Fall. Having survived the chaos of Verbena and making it off world alive, Ian Dugan and Tobias Hawke find themselves staring up at the night sky of the planet Ghost, a nearby gas giant, the aptly named Zeus, sat lazily on the horizon. Things had gotten rather messy in the Kalidasa sector of late, and the small planet was now being used to dispose of the various remains. The air stank of death, a scent the pair were all too familiar with now. It shouldn't be long now... Roughly 300 miles above, the Glory slowly dipped into the planets orbit and began their descent. Captain Becker stood on the bridge, trying to catch a glimpse through the think clouds below. Having spent weeks trying to locate Ian, break the blockade somehow and rescue them, but with no luck. Just as he was about to give up, a coded Cortex message bounced to the ship, with only a set of co-ordinates. He hoped it wasn't a trap, Niska just rubbing it in, but something felt right this time, like maybe this could be for real.... |

Biff could do nothing but laugh at the big man and his ability to shake off the impossible. He, however, kept his mirth inside. Biff didn't think that Hawke was dealing with his trauma how he would with humor; he thought he was being serious. The big man did look run ragged and Biff offered up help. "Hawke in all seriousness if you need a hand back to the ship just let me know. It's really not that far." He was a big boy and would speak up if he needed something or just shrug the help off. Either way Biff was beginning to like the man for his bravado. It grated on the nerves much like Biff's odd humor when it showed up. Biff turned his attention to Ian not waiting for Hawke's response. "Captain Ian. It's good to see you safe after the fall. Captain Becker has kept the candle burning for you sir and I'm honored to serve aboard Glory. She's a fine ship and she's been a safe port in the storm. My friends and I owe you both", he indicated Ian and Michael, "a great deal." |

Remy listened to Trina as she talked to him, it seemed the Captain would be returning, and a 'feast' would be laid out for him. Remy had respect for the Captain, he had brought in him and his ragtag people, without really a second thought, but Remy dread to think what the Captain would think of him after the disaster in trying to rescue Hawke. I'll walk with you, we might as well start discussions so we waste little time, and can get straight to work in the Kitchen he stated simply. Remy then motioned for Trina to lead the way. Gulliver stopped in her tracks. This wasn't the same purple belly. Karyn's not only cracking lame jokes, she's actually worse at it than Sonya was. Gulliver started moving. "Only one comedian on the bridge crew Wychovski." She took a few steps. "And until one shows up, I guess we might make one 'tween us." Now on the far side of the ship from which Ian and the others approached. She scanned the horizon through the scope, pulled the rifle strap tight up on her shoulder. There were cattle grazing in some tall grass. She'd left the comm open. "Fresh beef?" She started to mount the scope on the rifle. "What's the max for poaching, I mean, would that be added on our terrorist sentance?" |

Leading the way to medical, Trina didn't take too quick a pace, not wanting to out pace Remy. "I wasn't really thinking overly fancy, just something where we could all at least sit down and enjoy the crew being back together." As they walked, she recalled Mike recounting how Ian had been lost from Glory. He hadn't seen the whole event, but had gotten the full story. She wondered if Remy felt responsible in any way for Ian being lost on Verbena, but in her mind there was no blame. "Any thoughts on what to have?" For now, she avoided asking the sensitive questions that rolled through her mind. That was a conversation probably best left for Remy and Ian to have. Still, her nature led her to want to encourage Remy with the fact that Ian was the type to give second chances. This trait was clearly evidenced by the fact that Ian was bringing aboard Tobias. |

Ian listened to Becker as he talked and took note of who stayed and who left. He was glad that Tristan had been taken care of in a good way. Too much death that to have one more. He felt sorry for the crew of the Horizon. The ship was now surely scrap now. It wasn't too far from the main shipping lanes. Ian nodded his head a Biff as he spoke. and turned back to Mike. "Having a Registered Companion on board might not be such a bad idea. Especially until we clear our name. We'll have ta change the registry and the IFF transponders of the Glory to one of our other names." He clapped Mike on the shoulder. "You get to finally learn how ta do that." He paused as Mike waved toward Sonya. He heard cattle lowing in the distance. It was a good meeting point. "Who's up in Blaze?" It was the only shuttle left and Ian would have had someone provide air cover, just in case. Mike was a good man and Ian felt he would have too. "Sonya our primary pilot? Who's secondary? How's Karyn shaping up?" So many questions to ask. So little time. he thought. "Did you ask anyone The question?" He knew Mike would know which one he was talking about. |

Becker cocked his head and subdued a smirk as Biff paid him compliment. There seemed to be agreement in Dugan's manner and that was welcome. Before long Mike received the clap on his back. "Well I did unofficially slip back into the Gilgamesh name. Gil Grissom's ship if I remember rightly." On Becker's second return to Glory. That had been her and her captain's alias, the happening had stuck with him. The questions came thick and fast, which was good because Becker hadn't thought to send the shuttle up. Quickly reassessing his call, he was confident he hadn't fumbled badly. Everyone was safe and sound and had been so far. The other questions Mike could answer and so... "Hey Karyn's great. I'd even say if you wanted a decent XO-" He cut himself of, before Dugan did so and offered reassurances. The grin on his face indicated he was half smiling. "Her and Sonya switchover like clockwork. It's more fun when they're both up on the bridge though." The question. "I... nearly did. But it didn't quite feel right. Plus they all chipped in on the Zig, figured that for similar sentiment." "There's plenty more to talk out." Mike suddenly seemed a little eager, his speed picking up. "Had to fall to Niska for a little work. We also had to replace some engine part that was acting up. Oh and erm," He tried his best to hold back a smile, "Me and Trina are sharing quarters" He promptly rounded the terrain and put Glory back into the view, Dugan's first sighting in two months. |

Sonya didn't bag the cow. The sound of a shot, the alarm of a poacher, or even the wrath of the Captain should have been enough. But the idea one of these huhndahns on the ship would have some code about skinnin' what you kill. Making a face at that disgusting proposition, she turned to scan the horizon with the scope still on the rifle. Nothing. She turned and headed back to join Ian, Biff, Becker, and .... ... Sonya slowed from her slow run and walked the last few steps, her first full gaze of the Cyclone of Horrors. Or at least that's what the graphic novels she'd once read had called him. "Hey." she said to him, a little gulp and then she was on Ian Dugan. Arms and a leg around one of his, big kiss on the lips. "Good to see you." Sonya had no plan to have done such, but there he was; and the dangerous man he was with, something stirred. Knowing what it was didn't matter. Don't think about such things. Gulliver stepped back, cracked a smile and let her eyes wander over her former lover. "So, you packing a hidden gun 'sides ghost and rider, or you just happy to see me?" Then she laughed with much joy and a little tear. All again a surprise to her. Then tried to compose herself. "So..." she kicked the dirt with a toe. |

Ian listened as they walked.
That's good as Gil, himself was on Verbena. Seems he sent his ship on ahead, just prior to the lockdown, if ya believe the records." He had asked about the designated pilot as Dom was no longer there. He thought of the Companion and his quiet friend that had saved them all back on the Ziggurat. He'd have to see if they wanted to stay on more permanent like ... as crew.
Ian smiled at the thought but shook his head. "Nahh, the best person for the job already has it.
Ian smiled at the thought as the sight of his ship came into view. She sat in a low depression, out of sight from land craft. She looked beautiful. She looked like home. Mike picked up the pace as Ian saw Sonya walk from around the back of the Glory. He heard the sound of Tobias's knee brace and felt for the man but kept pace with Mike.
Ian nodded as he watched Mike and smiled because the man was trying his best to hold back a smile of his own
They were at the ship and Ian stopped altogether. He clapped Mike on the back. "Good for you" He caught the scent of Jasmine and his smile grew bigger still. Then he was attacked. It was a short lived fight before he succumbed to the inevitable. The attack was all arms and legs and lips. He fell into Sonya's embrace with a muffed moan as he kissed the mother of his son for the first time in so many years. It was heaven to him, and hell when she pulled away.
She stepped back and smiled
She laughed and so did he. It felt good to be home. "Both" He chuckled as he spoke. 'Guys, this is Tobias Hawke. Friend and crew. Tobias, this is part of the family. The rest are on board. Play nice everyone." He stepped on the ramp and into his ship. Then he spoke in a very phony Latino accent sing-song. "Lucy, I'm Hooommmmeee!" The smile never left his lips or his eyes. |

Requiem for a Hawke
|
Finally, it was in sight. Hawke had passed off Biff's offer for help without so much as a grunt, and pressed on toward the ship, each step hissing pneumatically, making his duster bellow even more dramatically. With his free hand, he pushed the saber back into his stub of an arm with a soft click, returning it to the stump of a limb it was before. An attractive woman ran out to meet Ian, and Tobias paid her absolutely no mind. He paid no one any mind as his boots touched the hull for the first time in, apparently, a long time. "Friend? Cute, Crosseye." He spat on the dirt just before moving into the ship proper. "Friends don't kill your c-" Before he could even finish the sentence, the was a loud bang - though to the trained ears of all present, it possibly wasn't a gunshot. In all of a second, it seemed as if Hawke had been shot, taking a leg out from under him and smashing his face into the deck. Hawke's duster whipped out violently, and something ricocheted lightly off the inside of the cargo bay. No guns were fired, though - the trained ears of those around him could tell it wasn't a rifle shot, or even small arms fire - the piston supporting his left leg had completely blown apart, and his leg buckled sideways. Over two months of not having an arm still his reactions hadn't warmed to the thought. With no leg to support him, Hawke seemed to basically crumble like a tower, driving his left knee hard into the metal, soon followed by his face. Ian was perhaps a little too familiar with this motion by now, but each time it had happened, it had gotten worse. In all of a second, Hawke found himself slumped face first on the deck, with a bleeding nose, a taste of copper, and only a hand and a foot on deck to support him. Peeling his face from the cold metal floor, he drew a ragged breath. "... Yeah, I think I'll take that help now, lad." He half craned his neck back, calling vaguely to the one who'd offered help before. Even as he managed to push himself up to a kneel with one foot, he pulled his hat low, hiding his eyes for the moment. "'Friend', indeed..." He growled at the hull floor. |

"Let's get her-" there was no time to be finishing sentences, not when Sonya was to be rushing the captain. He still put it down to her being out of character, but he was glad to see a more positive side of it, as was Dugan by the look on his face. Mike shook his head and waited for Ian to lead the way on his own ship. The captain did so with great theatricality. Then came the pop, the one Becker instantly likened to a gunshot. He briefly crouched and tried to figure the gunman's location, but things started adding up to another reason for the noise. Becker was left looking down at Hawke asking for help as he lay in the dirt with one good leg. Biff was sure to help him, but Becker knew an extra hand wouldn't go awry. Though still unsure about Tobias, Mike knew what the right thing to do was. After hesitation, he continued on into the ship. It was difficult for him to channel thoughtful consideration for Hawke regarding Cole and who was at fault. It was too difficult to pinpoint understanding, or place forgiveness at this point. Becker was a good soul though, and after searching through bits of cargo in the bay, he brought a hover stretcher to the top of a ramp before prodding it in Biff's direction to aid him. Becker turned back to Dugan. "Okay let's get her airborne. We'll find somewhere more-" He ceased, a little embarrassed. "I'm sorry. Gotta shake that." |

Biff hung back from the group following them all the way back to the ship. They had their own greeting to do in their own unique ways and he let them at it. When the piston blew from Hawke's leg Biff flinched to duck but knew it wasn't weapons fire. War reflexes were a hard mistress to shake. Hawke went down hard and Biff saw some of the contempt and reservations the others had toward Hawke. Biff knew about Cole but had never pried into further detail. He was mentioned here and there but he was gone before Biff ever set foot on Glory. Hawke to him was the maniac gunslinger who he fought with side by side in a ruined cafe parking lot. It was a short lived acquaintance but that's how Biff usually meets people. Remy, Jenna, Glory, they were a fluke, good luck. Biff kneeled down to help the big man up. Michael brought a stretcher and they set to securing him to the thing. "Engine room or med lab?" Biff stifled a laugh as the words came out of his mouth. "Sorry. Too soon." Biff shook his head. He was content going on happy. If he was making inappropriate comments without thinking then he was becoming happy. He was unaccustomed to the feeling. "Med lab med lab." He cleared his throat. |

"Lucy, I'm Hooommmmeee!" called Ian. Sonya shrugged her shoulders and made a face to indicate she had no idea what that meant, in a playful, 'he must be crazy' look. Then she followed them up into the lower cargo deck. Orders were issued to get under way, by Becker. Which was of course still his job as X.O. but there was a bit of something. Sonya smiled, this was getting better. Then there was a shot. Sonya went down to her knees in sudden shock. She looked around, brought the rifle back around to shooting, barrel aimed out the door. She scooted over to the controls and shut the door. Stood up. The others had the giant on the stretcher. Sonya went to look after locking up her rifle. He'd been shot. In the leg, all blown apart. Flesh? Metal. Not shot? What happened? Biff made a joke. Sonya looked at Biff, not getting it yet. Then over the most wanted man in the verse. "oh. good one." He WAS a monster. But Ian had brought him on board. So now. He was their monster. Sonya stroked his face lightly. "Don't worry we always have the best doc on Glory. We keep em right well practiced too." |

Remy was an empathic being, it was in his 'training', the woman felt sorry for him in a certain respect, and Remy knew why. He had been at fault for Ian being separated from his ship for more than two months. Remy dreaded to think what would happen when he got back, but then again, Remy had done what he could to ingratiate himself with the rest of the crew, hopefully that would make up for any misdeeds, also Biff had been accepted quite well, and Remy knew that if Biff was accepted, he would be for the most part, because he Biff and Jenna really came as a package deal. She questioned him Honestly, I have no clue, but I think it should be an event, for not only to Captains return, but also to celebrate the crew, new and old alike. Maybe we could have a buffet of some sort, something that includes everyone, from wherever they are from? he stated |

The joy of being aboard the Glory was short lived before a small hell broke loose. Ian had heard it before, but the results then, were less spectacular. Tobias had face planted in the grating of the Lower Cargo Bay and came up bloody. Most everyone looked for a shooter, but not he. He had seen the cause a few times before. All of this happened because the piston in Tobias's leg brace had given out again. Biff and Mike had gotten a stretcher and Sonya had put her rifle back in the main stores locker. Course, it had been hers before. Ian moved to the Comm unit on the bulkhead by the main Airlock and thumbed the All-Comm
He looked at the chaos, turning the unit off and smiled anyway. "It's good to be home." Still smiling, he followed his crew into the Med Bay. Edited by ian dugan, May 27 2013, 11:47 AM.

Karyn nodded to herself as Ian made his announcement. Back into The Black. Good times. She shifted to check the in ship cam covering the cargo hatchway and made sure everyone was on board before bringing the engines on line. With a gentle shudder, the thrusters came to life and started gathering power, ready to defy gravity and lift the heavy craft up off the ground. "Departing in 5 ... 4... 3..." she started the countdown, overriding the internal comm. Settling back into the pilot's seat, she cast a glance skyward, ensuring a clear sky overhead. |

Her next move was towards the counter where her med bag was. She offered Remy an apologetic smile. "It seems I'll have to hold off on the meal for a bit. Unless you want to try to get that started and I can come help when this medical emergency is seen to?" |

Sonya headed straight to the bridge. Karyn was counting down. Gulliver took second seat. She looked over the diagnostics, the engines were looking a little out of center ideal parameters. They really needed a full time engineer. She'd hit Ian with that. Where the hell would they get one though. Her limited experience had helped very little. She knew Glory, but a mech knew systems. The only success she'd had in filling in trying to keep Glory running had been finding an old bottle of a previous engineer's scotch. Sonya said nothing. They were in the pink, looking good flying right out of the atmo. Enjoy. |

Requiem for a Hawke
|
Hawke coughed, blood mixed with saliva dripping from his lips. He waited for the other man to appear, the one he had known from before, one of the few faces he did recognize. A hover stretcher came into sight, and Hawke laughed. The man helped him somewhat to his feet, and every bit of pressure, every touch felt like fire - terrible, terrible fire. Still, all he could do was chuckle. "There is no way," He coughed, wiping the blood away with his only hand. "You're putting me on that godforsaken thing." He swallowed and grinned as they tried to sit him down. "Only corpses ride those things." He muttered, the smile vanishing briefly into a much darker tone. Pushing Biff back gently, he reached over with his right hand, and pressed a button on the controls of the hover stretcher. It slowly began to rise to about chest height of the others, little cooling fans picking up speed to match the workload. Swinging it around, he rested the stretcher under his stub of a left arm, and used it as leverage to begin walking. He didn't stop, moving off into the ship toward the fine-hatted man who'd brought the stretcher in the first place, the pseudo-captain. Even with a guide, the medbay was found with relative ease. Perhaps it was simply a logical location for a ship of this size and structure, or perhaps it was, again, the memories of old Hawke guiding his broken shadow of a self to an old haunt. --- In the Med Bay... The hissing came first. Every other step, a pneumatic hiss, amidst heavy footfalls, the sound of a man dragging himself forward. "Sorry, Doc..." A haggard voice came from the doorway. Stooped below the top of the medbay's frame, supported by a floating stretcher under... What was left of an arm, stood the Verse's most wanted man. Even with his ragged, wide brimmed hat pulled low, amber eyes flashed underneath. His other hand had found the doorframe, and a right foot came forward first, revealing the hodge-podge welded industrial piston strapped to his leg, articulated roughly at the knee. Leaving the stretcher at the door, he bravely endeavoured to take a left step, and the remnants of the shattered piston clanged, hanging loose, and the leg clearly couldn't take his weight - perhaps his right couldn't either. His balance was shaken, the billowing browncoat, more like a full length coat for most, lingering as he stumbled into the bay, catching himself quickly on the main operating table with a clatter. Hawke drew a harsh breath, a wheeze almost. "Didn't mean to... Y'know... Bring you a real job an' interrupt plans..." He turned and rested against the bed, and even so rose a head and shoulders above others present. His head dipped low, and something dripped from his lips. Something red. |
