It has been two long months since events on board the IAV Ziggurat. Now it's just called The Fall. Having survived the chaos of Verbena and making it off world alive, Ian Dugan and Tobias Hawke find themselves staring up at the night sky of the planet Ghost, a nearby gas giant, the aptly named Zeus, sat lazily on the horizon. Things had gotten rather messy in the Kalidasa sector of late, and the small planet was now being used to dispose of the various remains. The air stank of death, a scent the pair were all too familiar with now. It shouldn't be long now...

Roughly 300 miles above, the Glory slowly dipped into the planets orbit and began their descent. Captain Becker stood on the bridge, trying to catch a glimpse through the think clouds below. Having spent weeks trying to locate Ian, break the blockade somehow and rescue them, but with no luck. Just as he was about to give up, a coded Cortex message bounced to the ship, with only a set of co-ordinates. He hoped it wasn't a trap, Niska just rubbing it in, but something felt right this time, like maybe this could be for real....

Karyn had taken her time getting settled into the ship's routine, introducing herself to the rest of the crew and making amends to those who were skeptical about her allegiances. She was now part of the crew. She ran her fingers through her short cropped, dirty blond hair, straightened the thin tank top that she usually wore on board ship, and tugged tight the belt holding up her short trousers.

Sitting down at the pilot's console, she eased the Glory down through the atmosphere, watching the gravitational accellerameter and compass, keeping the ship on a steady bead toward the landing coordinates. Dense clouds filtered past the windscreen as the Glory descended. A gentle wind catches the ship and buffets it for a moment, but Karyn compensates and keeps it on a true corse.

"Getting close. Should be seeing a landing zone soon. Do we need a welcome party in case this goes sideways?"
But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free I've got nothing but affection for all those who sailed with me
Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow. Things should start to get interestin' right about now

"Sideways?" He began. "This thing's already upside down." Picking up Dugan was simple, it was written, but Mike hadn't wrapped his head around the Tobias angle yet. It was his understanding the Tobias was the bad guy, the one who shot Cole, to then discover he was the reason Ian had stranded himself was perplexing.

Still, Dugan was captain of this boat and far better than Mike at it. That said, Becker had taken to command better than expected. He'd assembled somewhat of a crew from the leftovers of the IAV Ziggurat. The crew already built for Glory remained except for Dom who left no reasons for his departure. Anders had also took his leave after Tristan had been transferred to a medical facility. As an old friend, Sonya was kept around both to aid Mike and aid her in coming out on the other side of whatever it was she was going through. Karyn had gained Mike's trust, and had showed herself very capable, that made her valuable. Then there was the trio of Remy, Biff and Jenna. The first had offered his connections as a companion for passage, which had come useful for a job or two in the past two months. Biff had leant to hand as a gun, always gratefully accepted. And Jenna was afforded passage too, but had kept herself as quiet as a... you know.

"I'll take a Gun with me, just for the sake of what might happen. You've seen this ship make surprise for everyone. I'd prefer you here, watching the ship." He gave a moment's consideration. "Might be a non issue depending on where they are and where we land." Becker squinted his eyes through the viewscreen. "Are you sure there's a planet through all this?"

Sobriety sat well with Biff and his dramatic weight loss from the events two months ago sat well with him as well. He felt better, stronger, faster, and best of all clear headed. His depression seemed at bay for the moment giving way to how great he felt. He hadn't felt this great in a long time.

The two months leading up to today he spent with his friends Remy and Jenna earning their place on board. It was nice to have work again and he threw himself to it whenever the occasion required. It was also nice to have some downtime together. Finding out that he actually likes Remy and Jenna for who they are as opposed to just being connected by seemingly random explosions every time they try to talk to each other. He got the vibe that they felt the same and was glad. It had been a while since he had real friends.

A few missions here and there came and went mostly without a hitch. Seems that lady luck had taken a turn for the better for them after all the dung she heaped on this ship and her crew. The one black spot was Dom's departure with not so much as a see ya later. From what he'd been told that's how Dom showed up to the ship too just out of no where. Biff liked Dom and the few times out with him found his skills very useful. Such is life in the Verse though. Some come and some go. Someday that could be Biff too he supposed.

Biff sat in his cabin weapons cleaned and ready to go in deep meditation. He was in tune with everything going on around him. He could hear the hum of Glory as she entered the muck they were flying through. Almost there. Biff took two deep cleansing breaths and slowly opened his eyes. He stood up from the floor and strapped his side arm to him. Suzanne sat glistening in her meticulously clean state staring at him. "I'll get you if the captain wants me too and stop looking at me like that." He smiled wide as he opened the door and headed out to the bridge for orders.

Sonya spent the last two months the way she did most of the last thirty. Exercising. She found herself quickly back into a condition she'd not had for many years. It had been harder and harder over the late years to stay in top form. Now she seemed to have her old endurance and recovery back.

The strength machines she nearly tore apart, the quiet pitter patter of her running the ship was constant; steps, and climbing too up and down the lower cargo deck that run up through the ship. Archery down the hall of the top cargo hold. The old swimming machine she'd bought in her early days with Glory was back up and running.

With this new crew and people she was cautious. Remy and Jenna seemed close; so she'd backed off working closer to him. And Biff was part of them. They were all part of that mysterious adventure that concluded with the fall. Which they had a great deal to do. Glory was dead. So were all of them. If anyone knew different. . . They're names were those of terrorists. Dead terrorist as they were listed, or at least she was.

Karyn took to first chair on the Bridge. Mike's trust in her was the one thing she doubted about him. Sonya took to just Mike, Khei and Trina as far as trust goes. She kept her own counsel though mostly. Went through some comprehensive test by Trina to see if anything could be detected. Mike, Kkei and Trina were old Glory, even if she didn't know two of them.

Around Karyn she kept her word to Captain Becker. Professional. She'd given out all she knew of Glory, and clearly she was the better pilot. Alliance training and experience. Sonya knew despite what bush pilots said and thought; there was none better that true flight school and hard hours on the stick.

As best she could she tried to appear happy, flirty - she did miss having someone to share her bed, and showed good spirits. It was usually pretty easy, she never had slept much, now just a few hours, four - sometimes less was all she needed. More time to work out. Too much time to think.

They didn't have an actual engineer or even a mechanic, so Sonya lent a hand best she could. She didn't have anything but the basics, but she kept an eye on those that were hired temp while docked or on the dirt to keep her girl running.

It didn't matter what she felt about these people, all kept at a safe distance.

Glory was still hers.
And she was still Glory's.

- - -

Sonya sat in the junior position on the bridge: monitored traffic, long range scanners, ship's diagnostics. There wasn't much to do, nothing to see; Karyn flew by instrument. Gulliver was about to turn to let Karyn know the thrusters were running just a bit hot at the current angle, but the slight correction was already made.

Khei had spent the first week holed up in her bunk, only emerging when called upon or do grab some small something from the galley so she wouldn't starve.

Even then she was rather disconnected from her surroundings.

Once Tristan had been taken off the ship her mood seemed to improve more readily. While it took a couple weeks, she had now returned to normal.

She'd, at least, met everyone aboard but her awkward social nature kept her from spending much time near the others. Instead she kept mostly to her bunk or the engine room unless she was summond on other orders.

In stark contrast to the few days leading up to the destruction of the Ziggurat, Trina had found the last couple of months quiet medically, if not a little challenging at times. Her own injuries hindered her some and the tests run on Sonya trying to discover what had been done to her had come up with no answers and yet, not additional questions. At the very least, there'd been no further altercations between Sonya and Karyn, which was a good thing.

Khei had seemed excessively quiet, though she seemed to be coming around. The other new faces, Biff, Remy and Jenna also seemed to be settling in. There were only a few dark shadows that lingered in the back of Trina's mind. Two were the departures of Anders and Dom. Neither had said much in leaving, but Trina had made sure to send waves to both. To Anders, thanking him for all of his help and a further apology for her behavior when he'd come aboard. To Dom, wishing him safe travels and a hope to see him again.

The last shadow was the absence of Ian. It had taken some time, but word had finally come that Ian was, in fact alive. In the time between losing him and hearing from him, they had done a few odd jobs, thankfully injury free. Now, sitting in the bunk she and Mike shared, Trina was making another attempt at playing her guitar as she felt the ship shudder a little in way she knew meant they were entering atmo.

As badly as she'd wanted to play before, the shoulder injury had just been too painful. Now, she could manage to play, though not for nearly as long as she was accustomed to. There was a certain hint of anxiety at what they were going to find when they landed, but all they could do was prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

One Biff Calhoon was moving to make an appearance on the bridge and Mike saw him coming. "Biff, you spared me the trouble of going shipwide." If Karyn was to stay with the ship, Biff was the best man to be carrying a gun for Mike. "I'd like you join me when I head down. Not that I expect anything. Just that the unexpected is to be expected. Not that I really expect it because then it wouldn't be-" He cut himself off before that circle of thought persisted. After a throat clear, "so you'll be joining me."

"I did want to ask something though. All of you," he added, seeking Karyn and Sonya's attention too. If all went well, the burden of command was due to be relinquished soon, but there was a matter he wanted to cover. "If it's true who Dugan went down for and that he's-" and another cut off for unnecessary information, and a fresh start. "With all you know about Tobias, how would you feel about him coming aboard?" Becker saw potential friction, and he had often tried but couldn't fathom his own reaction. He needed others to weight for both reasons.

Remy hadn't forgotten about what had happened, it had been two months since Ian had "left". Remy didn't like it, but in the past two months he had tried his best to make himself useful, not only to the crew, but for himself. Remy had enjoyed actually being in one place - or one ship - for more than a few hours and he, Biff and Jenna had decided to stay on board.

Remy kept himself to his closest friends on board, only ever really being seen with them, unless he was asked to do something by the new captain. Remy was a companion, and was generally a people person, but this was a different life, and Remy wanted to try and keep that behind him.

Remy found himself aimless walking around the ship, with no real job to do...

Biff smiled and gave a nod. "Got ya captain." Biff had anticipated the next question for awhile and was surprised it took this long to come out.

Biff didn't believe half the propaganda machine spat out about Tobias Hawke and from what he'd seen when he crashed into their lives he was mad as a hatter. He was a bigger danger to himself then the Alliance or any underground clandestine organization. Whatever they did to him was wrong and the maniac was going to get himself and everyone around him killed if he's still strung out like he was.

"Big tall and crazy and I kind of have a mutual respect love hate thing going but the man is certifiable, and I'm not making excuses for him when I say that whatever this super secret cloak and dagger did to him is messed up. He's a mess and liable to get everyone around him hurt. However, he may need help."Biff nodded to Sonya. "Look at what the Alliance did to Sonya and they have the best equipment. Tobias might be damaged goods but, and I hate to say it to all of you, he's just as much a victim."

Karyn watched the ground approach and balanced the thrusters to keep them hovering as she slid the ship into position closest to the fluttering teeshirt marking their landing zone. As Mike brought Biff up to speed, she glanced sideways at Sonya, sitting in the co-pilot seat. At the mention of Hawke, she watched for a response from her twin before speaking up.

"Look. As far as I am aware, he was just another cog in the machine. I don't know if he was the one that brought down the Zig or not. If Ian was confident that it was important to rescue Hawke, then that is something to pursue. "

She eased up on the throttles and the Glory settled down on her landing struts with the bare minimal shift as the weight of the big bird found its perch on solid ground.

Becker wanted the opinion of Karyn and Biff. She wasn't so sure about her. There was that feeling that she was different. And he could tell.

Of course, Sonya had made it pretty plain that she hadn't even believed Tobias Hawke was real when the subject had come up before. And then after convinced he was, that he was, actually, a terrorist. And a pirate. And a murderer. So... why would they be bringing him on board?

Old news.

Biff directed the answer to be something to do with her. Victim.
Karyn too. Hell YES Karyn too.

"you think I'm rutting crazy... " she said to Karyn, then shook her head with a bit of a humorous smile. Pilots can joke about crashing and dying and being crazy. It's a flygirl kind of thing.

"It's a mistake. And dangerous. But yes. Dugan's Captain, and he wants him on board, so. That's it." She looked to Mike and nodded.

"Besides, things are gettin' right boring; I been thinking of taking another whack at Karyn just to liven things up."

Khei silently nodded to herself as she made all the routine checks in the engine room to make sure everything was running as it should.

She'd spent enough time with Glory's engine that she was confident in her ability to keep her running by now.

She also found comfort in the solitude the room provided. It had helped her recover emotionally over the last couple months as she kept herself busy.

Mike pursed his lips together and looked over to Karyn for a reaction. After a moments time, he held out a hand to indicate Sonya while keeping his eyes on Karyn. "You gotta admit that's kinda funny." He was confident that the pair would maintain their physical restraint, but the verbal swings had been quite a show.

Back to the matter, there seemed to be a universal truth. Whatever Dugan said went. Even from a two month absence he held the respect to make people follow him where they would not take themselves. Internally, Michael had to ask if he was capable of that. He'd settle for the success of their jobs and everyone still being alive. "Well thanks for the input boys and girls." He patted Biff on the chest. "I'll meet you in the cargo bay."

On that Becker took leave from the bridge, not heading straight for the bay though. Instead a quick turn into the first mate quarters, sounds of a guitar being plucked welcoming him in. "You're getting better." he shared with a smile as he came through the door. His first task was to lean toward her and steal a kiss. Mike then rounded up his usual suspects; coat, hat and trusted iron at his side. "Won't be long until I can hear a whole song from ya." He shared as he geared up.

Biff walk off the bridge and back to his room. When he got there he picked up Suzanne and slung her on his back. He put a couple extra magazines in his pockets and some for his side arm too. The combat knife never left his belt and he picked up his cortex device the broken one. He stared at its blank screen for a time and then put it down again and walked out.

Outside in the hallway he saw Remy down walking his way. "Hey there how are you today? Nothing like a little atmo to get you restless right? I'm heading down to the cargo bay to meet the captain about getting...ur...the captain. What are you up to?"

Karyn looked hard at Sonya, but there was a twinkle in her eye as she shrugged.

Then back to attend to the pilot duties as she put the thrusters into idle and swiveled her seat around to stretch her long legs out and lean back, taking that kink out of her small back.

"Sure, any time you want to work out some of that stress, I'm available."

Sonya was last off the bridge, "I was joking. Cynical like." She smiled with a laugh.

"O.K., O.K." She tapped the top of the door leaving the bridge for luck. "You get me girl."

Gulliver followed with only a stop for the big hand cannon she'd found in the old storage. Big .50 calibre. Not a woman's gun, she liked that. Strapped it on her left hp.

Trina grinned at Mike's words after returning his kiss and paused the tune to lay aside the guitar. Sliding off the bed where she'd been seated, she put the guitar back into its case and closed it up. "No, not too long. Nearly there as it is. I take it we're close to the pick up point?"

The fact that he was gathering things up, arming himself, was enough to answer that question. She asked anyway, somehow needing confirmation that they were getting Ian back. She'd worried about him, but there was little they could do when they couldn't get word from him. "Should I come? I can bring the medical supplies, just in case."

Somehow, she figured he'd tell her no, but it never hurt to ask. They all wanted Ian back, though she still held reservations about bringing Tobias on board. She and Mike had talked it over privately, and Mike trusted Ian's judgement. She did as well, but that didn't mean she wasn't worried a little.

"Yep. I know we've had a few wild goose chases, but I'm thinking this could be the one." A quick check on his weapon, one of the things he had to keep reliable. Becker was set to go.

Michael's brow furrowed, his head shook quickly and his denial came in two shoot bursts of syllables. "Nu-uh. You were shot remember. That's why you're grounded. And I know I was shot, slightly, but that was completely different." He was joking around, but he promptly reached over and took her hands to deliver a more convincing message.

"There shouldn't be any problems. But if there is trouble, I want you here on the ship and I'll bring the trouble to you." The wording didn't quite match up the sentiment he was trying to deliver. "The trouble will be knocked out," was his recovery. Another kiss helped matters.

"There's little reason why we shouldn't all be in the galley celebrating within the hour." He began stepping towards the doorway backwards. "But er. Make sure the med bay's prep. Just for the sake of it." Seemed unwise not to have her ready. Just in case. Michael held himself in the doorway for any final words before he pressed on.

At first, Trina made to argue about being grounded, but let it go. She shook her head at Mike's wording and watched him head towrds the door and pause. "Be safe all the same? Please?"

As he took off, she followed him into the corridor. Her heading was towards medical and she spotted Biff and Remy. "Hello Biff, Remy." She gave them both a smile and paused in the hall. The two were both good in her book, though she'd noticed that Remy seemed out of sorts. Almost as much as Khei had. Idly, she wondered about seeing if Remy was up to helping with a 'welcome back' meal for Ian.
