The fall of the goliath Zuggarat did little to change the lives of those imprisoned by quarantine in orbit around Verbena. Shock, anguish, depression, and apathy among the many emotions felt yet quickly brushed aside when the quarantine lifted and life moved on. As it always does life must move on. A rushing torrent of water that throws you over a waterfall or a quiet brook that lazily drifts by soothing and soft. In orbit of Londinium Two months after the fall The Grey Reyne sat docked perfectly with a large commercial skyplex where she had just completed her maiden voyage with her new captain. Her mysterious passengers gone without so much as a thanks for the ride. She sat there waiting. Waiting for the next job to come along and sweep her back into the Black where she belongs, flying free. Her crew though small was determined and the opportunities here on, or directly above, a core world were next to limitless. This is the beginning of a new journey for a new captain and his crew. |

Lupin watched as the captain went through his back and unloaded the revolver, a practice that would have done if not originally running for his life and being unsure of whose ship he got onto. Lupin took the bag and made sure it was zipped up and set it aside. He smiled a bit knowing what was coming, "You're gonna hate me for this Captain, but your ship was the first proper ship I saw with the door open and no one in sight. Don't worry it wasn't that long but sometimes all you need is just a couple of minutes when someone goes off to use the facilities." Looking over at the lady standing in the room as well for only a brief moment without the least bit of an accusation he continued. "Don't hold it against your crew. After all it is part of my profession. But the same can be said about the other way, If you like I'd be happy to give you a professional opinion on the ship’s security and even do a check on the systems to make sure it ain’t open to anyone on the Cortex." He gave the captain a sincere and pleasant smile, "Like I said sir, I respect you and would like to make up for any wrongdoing I did to you and yours." He then dug into his bag and offered a roll of money that has obviously seen better days. It was the same 800 credits that were left over from his failed attempt to cheat Mr. Cady out of a much larger sum. "I want you to have this; it's all that's left of that money I mentioned earlier. I just wouldn't feel right if I didn't offer you something for the trouble." |

There was a slight pause before a loud voice piped through the speaker. "Well I'm mighty pleased you answered the phone there darlin'. The names Winston Campbell and I am in quite the pickle. See I'm going to tell you up front that I have been black balled from my usual cargo transports by a certain crime family I've run afoul of. Now I have a shipment of foodstuffs and school supplies that I need to get to Athens. The folk there can really use the help better yet they can pay for the help and ya'll are the only ones I can go to for this job. I was pleased as all get out when ya'll showed up seeing as I haven't really seem you around before. New faces means a chance the syndicate might not have gottin' the word to you yet." The message was voice only and Campbell's accent was a thick Texas' drawl. It could be imagined that had there been video his hat may have held ten gallons. He spoke so fast and so boisterously that Africa and Monte couldn't get a word in edgewise until the man stopped to take a breathe. |

Monte tapped his lips with a single finger and then whispered. "You chat and I'll relay to the Captain. Be right back." He figured that instead of using the ship's comm, this tidbit best be delivered in person. And after all, exercise was good. He slid out of the seat, make a quick dash back out, down and forward to the storage room where Eli was still interrogating the stowaway. "Eli, we have a potential cargo. Man wants to avoid mob entanglements. Suggest you take this personally." |

Carrie had been all set to head off and take the incoming call, but Eli had sent Africa and Monte. He was involving everyone on crew, which was good. It definitely seemed to be helping the crew come together. That and she got to hear how Mr. Lupin had managed to sneak on board. And the offer he made, to look over the ship's security and even his last creds helped settle some of the doubts she had about him. Standing back, arms crossed, Carrie was able to see Monte return before he spoke. Instead of the call being from port control, it appeared to be a potential job. However, the phrase 'avoid mob entanglements' threw up all kinds of red flags. It was enough to put her a little more on edge and her arms dropped and her posture got a little more stiff. Looking to Eli, she let her gaze linger on him for a moment and then it shifted to Arsene. "Could be a chance to test someone's abilities... and let him work off the debt without takin all he's got left in the verse..." Her choice of words was deliberate, and probably was going to put her on some thin ice. The man hadn't harmed anyone, despite the opportunity to have killed everyone in their sleep. If he'd had any intentions of stealing the ship, he'd had his opportunity. Instead, all he'd done was kept himself fed and out of sight for as long as possible. |

Elijah was mulling over what Arsene had said when Monte came back down to the storage compartment, double time. He relayed the information and the Captain gave pause for a few moments, thinking over the situation. Both of them, really. A job, possibly with mob implications, and a stowaway, who needed dealing with. He'd have preferred to stray away from both of them. You're a Captain now. "Right. Thanks." He nodded to Monte and then turned to Carrie, gesturing to where Lupin was still seated. "Set up Mr Lupin in the empty cabin. Store his weapon in the lockers." He then turned to their new guests, eyeing him carefully before continuing. "You'll settle yourself and then stay put until I'm back down here. We're just getting started." He then headed for the door, giving Monte a 'keep an eye on them' nod of thanks as he left, heading for the stairs. Arriving up on the bridge, Eli found Africa making what could be described as small talk, and he heard the strong accent of this so called 'employer'. The promise of work was good - Eli had sincerely planned on arranging for something new, now that the transporting of passengers was done, but he'd had little direction. Doesn't mean this is ideal, he reminded himself. Mob entanglements set off alarm bells on its own. But what harm would come of hearing the man out. The Captain took the co-pilot seat and tapped a button to open up the comms his way. He gave a nod to Africa, waiting for an opportune moment to interject. "Mr Campbell. Elijah Harmon here, Captain of the Grey Reyne. I hear you're in a pickle?" |

"Yes captain Harmon I am. Now I have some cargo crates chock full of foodstuffs and school supplies that needed to be bound for Athens weeks ago. I'm in debt up to my elbows with a local crime family and have been black balled by my usual contacts. After I get the buyers payment I'll be set up to pay my debt off but that is simply my problem not yours. I will pay what you cypher up as shipping costs and an additional twenty percent for you and your crew." Campbell finally stopped talking. Even the back round comm static seemed to convey Campbell's desperation. |

Carrie gave Eli a quick nod and took the gun that was found in Arsene's belongings. Watching the captain leave, she was a little piqued to find out what this job was about. For now, that would have to wait. Looking back to Arsene, she motioned for him to follow and waited for him to stand. Pressing her lips together, she sighed heavily through her nose before leaing the man out of the storage and into the corridor. "Interesting don't even begin to cover the luck of this ship," she murmured to herself. Glancing over her shoulder as she made her way to the empty cabin, she ensured Arsene was following. "How many ships did you watch before sneakin on this one?" She couldn't resist asking the question, her cautious nature still in place. |

Lupin smiled upon the news that he was going to stay aboard. Which was good since work for him was very skimp in the core and even then a change in scenery would do him good. He picked up his stuff and fallowed Carrie through the ship. He could overhear her muttering something and made the assumption she wasn't happy with him or the captain's decision. He looked down and nodded his head at the question, "Well honestly, I didn't watch any ships. It was pure luck, I said I was in a rush and I literally went aboard the first ship I found. But if you meant ships total I'd say about a dozen or so. And at least 4 of them were too small to start." |

Monte dropped in behind the stowaway as Carrie led him out. It was just a short corridor, so the trip was pretty fast.
"Well, maybe if we have need of someone skilled at sneaking on board ships, we can use you. Otherwise, what other kinds of skills do you have to offer?" |

Africa explained the need for the Captain to discuss terms and specifics. The man seemed to understand. So Africa asked what he might know of the children, how many folk lived at this place, what exactly is a crime family and syndicate and what would they do if they did learn of Gray Reyne, expressed her fascination with his accent and her own unease at even asking such a question. She was sincere and delighted with interest and anything and everything the man would say; even if it took to a turn down a hard path. She moved away when the Captain had arrived, stayed to watch the interchange. |

"Alright Mr Campbell... hold the line for a moment." Elijah hit a button to mute the interchange and turned to Africa. He gave a nod of approval for her greeting of the businessman, then gestured to the console beside him. "Jump on there, will ya, and see if we can't find anything on Mr Campbell here. Just anything out of the ordinary, you know." He turned back then, finger hovering over the button to return to the conversation, and paused for a few moments to think over the whole thing. He didn't see any other choice at this junction - how much longer would they wait for decent work came up? "Mr Campbell. I think you're in luck. Perhaps you've got some coordinates where we can arrange a meet and greet and a pickup of goods? We're available whenever you see fit. By then I'll have a ship expense sheet nailed out for our trip to Athens." He smiled politely, disregarding the fact that the conversation hadn't been via video stream, and awaited a response. |

At first she didn't realize the Captain meant her, but then she nodded in the affirmative and took to the comm. Africa began typing out inquiries into common databases, citizen open fact libraries. She started common search avatars on the man's name, Athens, the coordinates when presented, the locations of pick up and delivery. Everything mentioned. And not knowing that it might be best to not include some things in a cross reference, added in organized crime, loansharking, and other common crimes to include 'the Syndicate'. Then asked the data avatars to cross check and put out multiple matches and follow. Nothing anyone that hadn't lived with computers couldn't have done. |

The voice that came over the speaker was overjoyed. "Captain Harmon you have made me a very happy man today. I can't be meeting you myself because I have to stay in hiding. My men can deliver the first load of supplies to you ship for your inspection with a customs officer. After those are sealed by customs the rest of the shipment which is already in customs lockdown will be delivered. Just because I'm in trouble with bad men doesn't mean I do bad business and I kept a few crates open to show I am above board." Africa's search was turning up all kinds of information of mundane value on Mr. Campbell and all of it except some gambling problems and a minor misdemeanor run in with the Feds when he was eighteen seemed clean. Much of the gambling issues pinged off the syndicate cross reference. "My foreman Mr. Sutherby will collect your expense sheet. Depending on how you want paid, hard currency or wireless, Sutherby will either swipe my card or go off to get the cash." |

Africa made a summary for the Captain, tagged the references. It reminded her of papers for school. She let the avatars run a bit more, made a list of references and took the initiative to put together some possible contacts for jobs based on what she had come across. Then she turned her attention to the discussion under way. It sounded ideal to her, just what her imagination would have conjured. Taking food and medicine to those that needed it. It felt good to see good hearts working together for the betterment of others. |

"Well Captain if that sounds good to you my men can be there within the hour. You have truly made me a happy and hopefully some safe man. Ha!" Campbell awaited the word and could be heard in the back round give orders in anticipation of the affirmative. Meanwhile Africa's terminal lit up with the exact coordinates of a farming community named Coopersville. Far enough away from the chaos that made up Athen's major ruined cities. |

Elijah mulled the entire situation over in his head for a few moment, tapping one foot on the floor. Finally he leaned forward in the chair, smiling at the information his new crewmate had pulled together, and hovered a finger over the conversation termination button. "Very well, Mr Campbell. It's regrettable that you won't be able to make the rendezvous yourself, but I'll have my ship and crew prepare for the cargo's arrival. Within the hour we should have a full payment contract prepared." He nodded again, as if on video, simply out of instinct, and his hand touched the button. "Good day, sir. Glad to be doing business." Her terminated the call, then turned to Africa. "Interesting day, isn't it?" He smiled, the bitter morning mood raised a little with the prospect of work. It wasn't the kind of work he felt he'd be feeling a bit guilty about later, either. Things were looking good for the Reyne's second voyage. "Alright, what've we got on him?" |

After Carrie escorted the stowaway to his cabin, Monte sighed and turned to head down the corridor to the stairs leading back up to the upper deck. Arriving at the bridge, he stood in the hatchway waiting on Eli to end the conversation with the patron. "Eli, I have run into stowaways now on two different ships. I'm afraid that this escalates from uncomfortable to near disastrous. If we need to post a guard on the ship whenever we are in port, I'm willing to offer my services as such. Lock up all access and inspection of all cargo coming and going. " He shakes his head seriously. "There is no telling what kind of trouble someone can make if they can just slip on board undetected. The next thing you know, we'll be fighting off a ship jacking. And the next time one does, I'm for throwing them out the airlock. If they're lucky, we'll still be in port." |

Carrie showed Arsene his room and reiterated the Captain's note to settle in and not go anywhere, though she really didn't figure she had to. With that, she turned her path towards the weapons locker. It didn't take her long to secure the gun and yet after locking it up, she stood there looking at the closed door. She wondered how well she was actually managing if someone had managed to sneak on board. He'd said not to hold it against the crew, but Carrie took it personally. Shaking her head, she finally headed to the one room on board that she felt completely comfortable, completely at home: the engine room. There wasn't a whole lot of need, but she needed to hear the hum of the engines. They'd always soothed her nerves, even if she never got any answers. |

Eli had just finished with Africa when Monte entered, unaware of the question that had been asked, and began briefing the Captain on his experience with stowaways. None of it bothered him too much - it all seemed fitting, the likeliness of someone like Arsene causing trouble was high, and Monte was more suited than the rest for such a job. Eli, risen from his seat, clapped one hand down on Monte's shoulder as he nodded approval. "Definitely. Your expertise won't go unnoticed. You're Public Relations, after all. When it comes to folk boarding, noticed or not, security of the Reyne falls to you." It was nice to have a crew that didn't need too much coaxing along - were they all like this, or had Elijah gotten lucky? Either way, he was grateful for the way his three crew members managed themselves on board, and made sure to let them know as often as possible |

The Captain took in the notes Africa made with a quiet professional demeanor. She considered offering her opion that Campbell seemed honest and his story checked out. There was more concern on the mysterious stow-a-away. That he was not tossed out the air lock didn't surprise her, she had never believed those stories. Chamberlain rose from her seat. Carrie would be wanted her to double check preflight, and a check of the cargo deck might be in order. They were taking on what sounded like a lot of goods. She waited a moment, the slightest bow, "Sir?" to ask if there was anything else. |
