Darkness abides where rocks smash into one another. In reality, the distance between these rollicking juggernauts is immense and the likely hood of collision is merely infrequent. Distance makes objects harder to see over these vast distances, and yet, there is always that slim, coincidental chance that one's eyes and tracking device happens to be aimed in just the right direction at just the right time to catch that curious glint off the barest of reflective surfaces at just the right time to spot it even from such major distances. Such was the case for Jim-Bob Gellispee, one rather unbeknown asteroid miner, who one day made the discovery of his life, much to his chagrin. Too bad for him, as this event will be that which drives him to destitution and despair as his life crumbles around him. For our heroes, it could prove to be the opportunity of a lifetime. It has been two months since their last paying job and the enthusiasm over being well paid and enjoying the life style that that has brought them is wearing off as the number of digits in their respective bank accounts descends into oblivion. No word has come down from their Patron, and the tension is beginning to tell in their interactions with one another. |

After stashing their gear away in their bunk the hulking man ducks his way back out into the corridor and towards the common area, grumbling as he meanders in, Gorram ships built for gorram midgets... he groans before slumping down on a seat. |

After securing the course, Sebastian retreated from the bridge and joins the rest in the common area, taking a moment to fill his mug at the kitchen counter's brewmaster. He stood for a moment, his eyes scanned each of the others. His older body creaked slightly as he stepped forward and then dropped into the last open chair. From out of a vest pocket, he drew out a sheaf of papers and spread them out on the table. "Ok. So here's the bit. You've all heard of the Black Sabre? Pirate ship run by one Tobias Hawke? Well, one of Cai's contacts, a bartender in the high port over Greenleaf, reports that there was an asteroid miner who claims to have seen a ship which could very well be this mysterious vessel. Says he was pretty freaked out and the 'keep put him up to keep him quiet. Give us a chance to get over there and interview this miner. Get the details on where he saw the pirate. Get a lead on the possible base. Follow up and maybe land this mercenary or at the least, get a claim on the treasures he must have stashed there." He leaned back and put his right hand to his chin in thought. "Course, badness requires high finances, right? We're looking at a finder's fee determined by what we find out there, with a base payment of 50k for the team, in case nothing results from our investigation. We're looking at a trip to Greenleaf; I have the ship on course right now, and then an interview with the miner. From there, we'll determine the next course of action. Thoughts?" |

Erideth raised an eyebrow towards Sebastian as he outlined the plan that he had in mind, but kept quiet until the end of his explanation. She crossed her arms as she thought about it. She'd heard about the Black Sabre, and luckily had little love for it. Rivals from her old times...still pirates, so that meant friendly rivals, but still rivals. Hang on 'ere. Yer sayin' that you want to...roll a miner fer info on a pirate ship...then proceed to jump that pirate's stash? Are you pullin' my leg or are you actually planning some sort of suicide mission? |

Alex nodded, jerking his head toward Erideth as he sat up, leaning forward a bit. I have to say I agree. Pirates aren't folk to be trifled with. Aren't much more friendly than Reavers. I'm an antiquities procurement specialist. What you're after would be a bounty hunter. I jump derelict ships or crashed wreckage. What the hell do I know about robbing pirates? Granted, Alex had been known to steal from former clients in the past but these people didn't need such information. He didn't like the idea of taking on pirates. |

Sabastian looked askance at the others for a few minutes before resuming. "As I said, the whole job centers around this miner's description of what he saw. Details are still to be determined, but it is of my opinion that this would indeed be more of a derelict situation. Apparently, this sighting was of a ship or part of a ship cast onto an asteroid. The reason that the Black Sabre came up, is that this man says he was afraid that this might have been the Sabre as it had been reported in the system a short time before. Now, if this is the Sabre, and there is information contained within that would lead one to the pirate's hidden base, then that would be the reward. If, on the other hand, this turns out to bea simple derelict, there is always the Alliance salvage rights and any goods found and recovered would be shared equally. And as I also said, even if this is just a goose egg, there is the guarantee of 50k. " |

Alex nodded. That sounds more in our line of work. Sounds easy enough. Long as we don't go tangling with pirates. I'm just not keen on going for a float out there. He jerked a thumb toward a viewport. |

Jo had listened quietly, noting the concerns of the others which did mirror her own. Sipping from her glass, she turned away from the viewport towards the captain. "I don't suppose anyone has gone so far as to scan for the ships IFF transponders? Even pirates leave traces with those off." Her face stayed calm, collected as she spoke. She could certainly do a little digging, but given that she was on board a ship, it did up the ante so to speak. Were she planetside, or even on a station, she would have far more signals to hide in while she did a search. |

Xavier cracks his neck, staying silent for the time being until Alex agrees to the deal. A grin crosses the huge man's face as he looks down at everyone, I'll talk to the miner. he simply states while cracking his knuckles, I'm sure I could get something out of him. He reaches over and grabs himself a mug of tea while letting everyone else debate the situation, But I still dunna think messin' with a pirate's a good idea. Knew a few back in my days in prison, good scrappers, but helluva temper on 'em. he casually glances around at the group. |

Erideth raised an eyebrow towards Trina before she pointed out, Actually, pirates use multiple IFF's. You cycle depending on what yer doin'. That way it's harder t' track you. She then turned and pointed out to Alex, ...not that I'd really be knowin' too much about that. Though, I think that bein' spaced only really happens if ya let yerself get caught. |

Alex nodded once again. Exactly my point. The good Captain's got a point, too, though. Lets meet this Miner and see what we're actually dealing with. As he said. Might not even BE the Sabre. Might just be some ill fated ship. Edited by Khei, May 28 2013, 01:06 PM.

Jolene smiled flatly, watching the other woman turn away and the conversation carry on. Lapsing into silence, she decided her skills ought not yet come from her own lips. True, actual proof would do well, but she was beginning to wonder if she should even bother. In silence, she turned back towards the window, continuing to merely listen. |

Sebastian relaxed and started to fold up the papers that he had laid out. "Okay. So that looks like a plan. At least, until we get the full scoop from this miner and see where that leads." Corky, the spunky mechanic, entered the galley from the bridge and started banging around with dishes. "I'll fix up some grub here for us and then we can settle in for the run. Might be it's a bit of time 'till we get there, but no need to go hungry traveling." |

The trip to Greenleaf went remarkably well, there were no interruptions to the daily grind on board the Jenny Lynn. The team had a chance to get to know each other and to include the new member into the group, sharing each others specialties. The Captain and his ship mate would at times be quite busy and at others would be lolling about quite jovial. There was a share of some fine spirits at mid point, and all got to sharing some high tales; most of which seemed too incredible to be true. Eventually, the comm announced the entrance of the ship into Greenleaf's orbit and Sebastian set about securing permission to set down. After a gentle passage through the atmosphere, the ship skidded off toward a small landing pad just outside Deja Thoris. On disembarking, Sebastian led the party, sans Corky who stayed on ship, to a small tavern/inn called the Broken Hole. There he identified himself to the barkeep who led the gathering back into a small basement holding area. Settled into a bunk at the end of the room was a ragged old man, radiation scars on his left arm and hand, and sunburn on his face where his beard isn't. He was in the process of finishing off a beer and as the team entered, he looked over very bleary-eyed and nodded once. "You my drivers? Gott' nuff of ya, do ya?" The barkeep shrugged and left, returning to his duties. ![]() |

Erideth wasn't particularly 'open' with information about herself, but she was open enough to sit down and have a drink with the others when it came down to it. She didn't share any real stories about herself past a couple of tales from when she was flying legit runs with an older spacer. She didn't get into too much detail about the ship and crew, just the stuff that went down. On reaching the planet, she was again dressed for 'fun'...meaning her coat and guns, and extra ammo just in case. She followed the barkeep down to the holding area, looking the man inside over with a raised eyebrow, but she let the others doing the interrogating...for now. Don't mind chattin' my head off, but ya' won't hear much of int'rest if ya' don' make questions. " His head rolled to one side as he looked back over at Erideth. A letcherous smile broke his face open and he winked at her. "Least the company is pleas't t' look at." |

Jo, rather that dress for 'professional business' had opted for jeans, combat boots, red tank and a very worn looking black leather jacket. When no one else seemed all that interested in finding out what it is the old miner had seen, she opted to move to the seat next to his bunk and flagged down the bar keep. "Whiskey double." Then, she looked at their 'lead'. She gave him a far more friendly smile than she'd shared with the others thus far. "You're right. About not hearing anything of interest without asking questions. So... rumor has it you spotted something in the asteroid. True?" Edited by Trina, Jun 22 2013, 12:14 PM.

Jim Bob squinted his eyes at Jo as if to see past her. Then he finished off his beer and glanced over at Xavier. "Things 'round here mostly ores of some quality. That bein' what we mine in the Rocks. Not many o' them that's shiny in the star light. Takes somethin' metal like to flash like I saw. " He rolled his head to look up, his eyes taking on a far away look. Then he scooted back into his bunk and fished at something in the dark before coming back out and holding his hand out to show an oversized coin. "Then 'gin, there's those that find better'n just ores. This here prize was just floatin' in front of my eyes when I saw that flash. Here, look it over, just 'member it's mine." The coin can be examined. It is a relic of pre-Exodus Earth That Was. A female face on one side and a crest with an griffin and crossed swords on the back. "Now, 'course you know the Rocks are numerous. But I got a nose for where and where... " His head rolls to one side and he starts to slide sideways. |

Xavier looked at the coin, Jim Bob, then at Alex, clearing his throat, Can I give ya a word of advice? One miner to 'nother? Xavier grabbed a beer for JB and offered it to the slightly smaller man, I reckon I may be biased, but ya prolly shouldn't be flashin' that thing to just anyone, I lost my family cause of findin' something I shouldn'ta. Not sayin' it's gonna happen to ya, but rather keep a brother safe, if ya get me. He watched the others for a moment and whispered, Anyone else know where ya got that? |

Alex nodded quietly. He'd been content to allow the others to ask questions first while he sifted through his thoughts. When presented with the coin he was almost visably giddy and eager to examine it. Once he had it in his hands, he turned it over and over, brushing his fingers over every detail of the coin. It was well worn but still in good condition. Don't see many relics from Earth-that-was these days. As my friend says, you'd best keep it tucked away, safe like. I've seen folk kill for less than that bit of shine. |
