Hunters.

. . .

For a living, they've killed. Or hunted down and dragged back those branded as being worthy of their talents. Reputations garnered over time,

reputations earned.

They've been watched.
Those that have use of such, have now called upon the very best.

Lists compiled have had names selected.
Plans have been made.
Bargains struck, deals brokered, promises to fulfill. Forces hope this is there time.

. . Hope is not a plan.

Those that believe they have the leashes of the dogs now put their plans into play.

====

Nearly two months since the Fall of Zuggarat.

Sylandra has been making milk runs on a small bulk carrier, Witchbreath; a Hornet Class Fast Transport. She and the contact of those that pay the bills have been setting up the premise that this little ship is just doing business.

Rose is the broker.

The other hunters gathered per instructions. They'd been give an advance, told to lay low. They'd accepted the job and to back out, well, it was made plain what that would mean. At a large commercial skyplex above Londinium - they arrived with their new forged papers and identity cards.

They were to go to the Twister Transport Company and present their papers for 'Witchbreath', a small speedy transport.

What they knew of the job was little, except it was big. Once on board would be able to transfer the bulk of their payment to other accounts. Then they'd be 'on ice'. Sealed to their fate. Only the job would remain. Only then the details revealed, the target unveiled.

It had all the making of being obviously dangerous, and certainly one in which if they were captured would mean more than a certain death. If not by those they'd be targeting, then by those paying them.

=====

Witchbreath was docked at a lower class berth. From the outside she looked like she was long overdue for a refit.

Rose, dark haired and vixen-like in her cheap tight leather garments. The whole operation looked like some sort of third class shipping outfit. If they didn't go out of business, then they'd be run out of it by Alliance Inspectors.

Sylandra was close by, flight plans to file. By all appearance another milk run rush deliver to some rich family that could afford to ship even the smallest item around the core as though it were across town.

Slade held his breath as he fired, let it out again when he realized he'd hit. He put the rifle down and looked from Rose to TK. Deciding to appease the woman who was supervising the mission, the sniper took an expensive belt from around his pants and went behind Ryobi as his other male partner held her up. The former pirate, not gently, pulled the female's wrists behind her back, and thrust them tightly together. He guessed moving her injured arm hurt the prisoner, but he didn't rightly care. She had just attacked two of his team, and had he not been as good with his rifle as he was, she would have gone after him next.

Once the hostage was secured, he nodded at TK and also took ahold of her to get her down to medical.

Medical meant Silvia's room. Ryobi's screaming stopped, "She was going to shoot me, I had to..." except when Slade bound her arm.

"AAhhh."

Ryobi offered meek protest, mumbled.

"Gorram right I was." Rose looked at the bleeding arm, looked at Slade and nodded an admiration that he'd by some miracle got off a shot. "Bind her legs too. Don't give her an inch." The boss continued to look over Ryobi. "Stop the bleeding. No painkillers, question her if you can. Or whatever. Just leave me something to question if you don't get anything out of her." Rose's disposition was cruel, there was no psychological manipulation to be observed.

The ship moved and grav shifted despite the plating.

Sylandra hailed Renwick on the comm.
"On my way." she replied after making sure T.K. and Slade were exercising the caution she demanded. "She's cyborg, some kind of supercharged adreniline nerve stimulator." Again Rose looked at Ryobi.

"They call her Bosch."

Rose turned and headed to the bridge.

"No. It's not me." said Ryobi. The horrible looking wound bled freely, bone from the foream stuck out from inside her elbow.

They only had a few minutes before Rose would interupt.

========================

on the bridge Rose got a quick understanding.

The Hover had ducked into a garage of numerous hover and quad vehicles. Witchbreath followed. The kidnappers had taken Seliator and Silvia away in one of them, down a long tunnel that would not tolerate Witchbreath.

She considered only a moment. "You go."
Sylandra was their best driver.
"Take Slade." Then she pointed, "the little red one with the sun roof I think."

Rose tapped the comm, "Slade, get your rifle and what you need for vehicle to vehicle live fire."

THE YELLOW HOVER

Silvia's eyes cleared just a little. Something else was in the mix now. Some that felt really good. Newton Devicci's face was in front of hers, pleasant and smiling. "Who sent you Silvia? The Banyon? Tangent? The Empress?"

Sylandra turned the controls over to Rose and snatched up her bag as she made her way to the airlock, picking up Slade along the way. She smiled at the sniper and tossed a quick salute as they barreled out the hatchway. She dropped to the ground in a sensuous, feline glide, landing easily on both feet with legs spread and knees flexed. A quick glance around the area, and she spotted the red sportster that Rose had pointed out. A quick dig in her bag of tricks and she had the thin jimmy in hand and made her way to the driver's door. A fast slide and jerk and the gull wing door swung up, and she was in, settled into the leather seat. A quick moment passed as she jiggled the ignition and the engine roared into action.

Slade heard the comm, made sure TK had the prisoner well in hand, then returned to his bag and rifle. He gave it look over to ensure it still worked correctly, something he tended to do though not needed given how much he fussed over the weapon. He ejected the clip, slipped a fresh round in from his supply, then slid the bullets back into place and cocked his pride and joy. Then he set it aside for a moment, and loaded spare clips as well; these he slipped into various pockets. He adjusted his hat, picked up his gun, and gave Sylandra a charming smile when she came to get him. He was ready.

When Jackson jumped down from the hatch, he didn't do so as nimbly a his fetching companion, but with the way he landed; knees bent to cushion the impact, feet apart to balance himself, it seemed clear this was not the first jump of this nature he had made. The sniper was on the other's heels, and when she got the ride unlocked he got in next to her.

"First the guard on the stairs, then three more out front of the house, and now moving target practice. Forget a flat fee, I should have charged per bullet. Bt still, a fine mode of transport, a lovely lady for company, and a chance to kill things. Guess I can't complain."

The slick talker winked at Sylandra.

TK led Ryobi to Silvia's room, which had been setup as the temporary medbay for this particular job. He kept one hand wrapped tightly around her wrists, her arms stretched out behind her, and prodded her forward with the end of his sidearm. The door before them slid open as he entered the access code, and he shoved the wounded women across the room and onto the empty bed on the other side of the room.

Glancing about, he looked for something that would do to secure her, meanwhile he continued speaking to the woman. "You just earned yourself a bullet from everyone on this gorram boat." he mused aloud, keeping one eye on the bleeding patient, mindful of Rose's warning. "That is if you don't bleed out before they get a chance." he said with a smile, eyes scanning across some discarded extension wires. That would do.

He gathered them up and turned his full attention back to Ryobi. "I let you live once, when you offered me Seliator. Seems to me like only one of us kept our word." he said quietly, making his way across the room and beginning to tie her up, all the while keeping the sidearm carefully trained on her.

Looking up at Newton she smirked a bit, rocking her head around slightly as she spoke in a slurred tone, You're firing blanks, it's not the gun in the fight, but the fight in the gun. She averted her gaze from the man before her and then leaned her head back on the headrest.

Witchbreath left the garage and took to the atmo. Finding out where that tunnel emptied was now task one for Rose Renwick.

In the meddio/Silvia room, "your BUN tyen-shung duh ee-DWAY-RO captain was going to shoot me, what would you... ah ruttin hell, watch the arm!"

Then some more moaning. The woman was in a bad way. "They'll take him to Greenleaf, or hide if they have to. Anything to keep him alive for now, or aaawaya, not ruttin tighter?"

Panic filled her eyes. "I'm not her. Not Bosch."

The HOVERS.

Clancy had a pretty easy job. Just unlock and start up the cars for the Senator and his guest. First five complete strangers came racing out of a larger hover. They moved to the Yellow Luxury vehicle. Heavy but comfortable in size. As he turned to walk the keys over the had to dive out of the way to avoid getting hit.

Then a bigger ship, looked to him like a Hornet, dropped off two more people, man and woman. They moved to the most expensive care of the Senator's. Clancy got the key and turned to walk toward them. Again he barely dove to safety.

The yellow hover's lead was quite considerable as they started. But the red sportster made fast gains. The tunnel was long and straight, smooth.

Behind them Clancy's screamed curses and shook his fist.

The Yellow Hover.
Newton leaned back and considered her words. His hand touched her face, the hard calloused fingertips found sensitive nerves endings. His hand spread and pressed harder, "I never cared for weapon metaphors."

Newton pressed a little harder, a little different. Inside Silvia her demons were freed, the drugs, the technique of the dark master of the Shaolin, and some would say; the dark power of negative Chi.

"Let me show you a little something Shan Yu tought me." The fear in check met the demons.

Travis finished securing Ryobi, tight enough despite her protests, then turned his attention to the large found. "She isn't my Captain." he muttered in reply, taking hold of some nearby bandages and laying them carefully over the wound. "It's gonna sting." he added, pressing one hand down firmly against her in an effort to stop the bleeding. "I don't care who or what you are, Bosch is a problem for Renwick, I simply need Seliator."

TK looked around, trying to take stock of the various medical supplies. He was no Doctor and tended to be doing harm rather than trying to fix it, but this wasn't the first time the occasion had called for a healing touch. "Way I hear, this Mac's a tough cookie. If they're gonna make him talk, they're gonna need something to break him." He said, returning to Ryobi with a vial of disinfectant. He lifted up the bandages and applied it vigorously. "So what was the plan?" he then asked with a smile.

Slade continued to smile cheerfully as though this were no more than a Sunday drive; inside his mind however there was a flurry of activity. He was judging distance, wind resistance, how far down in its brief flight a bullet the size of those in his gun would be pulled by gravity as it traveled between vehicles. He also pondered the best shot to take. He could of course go for the driver, but that wasn't such a good idea. First off, the guy next to him would just take over, and in the interm the hover would swerve about messing up a follow up shot plus everyone would likely hunker down and he'd never be able to get the target that paid, even if he could identify him from the back. Of course it was also possible that the men in the yellow vehicle would return fire, and he didn't know how good a shot they were or how many guns that would be. This first round had to count, and count big.

However, Jackson considered himself up for the challenge. When he decided the time was right, he opened the sun roof and pulled his hat down at an angle. The sniper rearranged himself, and pulled the top half of his body through the opening with his rifle. His form was fluid as he took aim, no matter what was done below him he adjusted himself but the weapon never moved where he didn't wish it. The position of the wide brim upon his head helped break the air current around his hover so his eyes didn't tear and mess up his shot. He drew a bead, breathed in, then as he slowly let it out he pulled the trigger. The well oiled innards knew their job as well as their master, and responded to his command. The barrel spat fire, and the round was on its way.

It was however not aimed for flesh and blood, but rather machine. Slade had decided to go for the rear anti grav unit, and hoped his first attempt would take it out. If he succeeded as he hoped, the device would be destroyed and the yellow hover would drop and drag it's back end. His prey would in effect be stranded in this tunnel, with just his driver, him, and many of his little friends for company.

"Killin's better'n bein' all stiff and morgue like." She smiled back at Slade as he dove into the seat next to her. Her fingers toggled over the thrust and vector settings on the yoke, playing them like a living thing. The car slewed around and chased after the other hover.

Sylandra drove like a demon, keeping them in line with the yellow hover, and gaining, but not getting so close as to spoil Slade's shot. As he pulled himself up through the sunroof, she settled down and maintained a steady course, matching the other hover totally.

His shot rang out and she allowed the sportster to drop back slightly and swerve to the left, allowing that the yellow vehicle might slew when it bottomed out.

Silvia's eyes went wide suddenly and she blurted out, Marsellus Wallace! she screamed a name, though no one around her had to know she never actually paid attention to who it was that hired the group, just what her objectives are, she knew it was always safer to not know who it was who wanted someone dead, it's how she kept her business going.

The Red and Yellow.

Sylandra saw it coming, a curve to the road ahead, but Slade would have time for the clean shot.

Once it was made he realized it was going to be a bit tough. The yellow hover had plating, by the simple little bump made on the rear of the yellow hover it was likely the expensive stuff they used on spaceships. A simple bullet wasn't going to go through that.

The mechanics of his weapons at hand and the materials in an armored hover went through his head: Glass, vents, openings.

And then the road veered to the left, not sharply; both cars kept their speed but now the yellow hover was just barely in line of sight.

WITCHBREATH

T.K., "So what was the plan?"

"Simple extraction." the woman groaned, forced herself to get it in check. "O.K. not so simple. We've got an interrogator with us. Old Tong master of the Dark Shaolin. True believer. Like me."

Ryobi/Bosch watched as Travis patched her up. "We're part of it. The underground. We'll get information on all its elements, unite them. We need Seliator alive. For now. There are plans in place. A new war, under the ... ouch. rut that.... where the gorrom hell did you learn to ... ouch ... O.K. O.k. ... I can ... take it..." She seemed to black out for a moment, eyes closed, the opened. Glazed.

THE YELLOW HOVER, inside:
"Marcellus Wallace." repeated Newton Devicci. "I do not know this name. But it does not matter. We will talk later." He patted Silvia's cheek. "First we must escape your most fortitude minded associates."

Seliator babbled, "I'll pay you dear. I've money. The ropes won't be too tight."

Slade swore to himself when the bullet bounced off with hardly a trace left on the yellow hover. He missed his shot, and needed to be ready for his next opening, if there was one. The sniper took one had away from his gun, and reached into a front pocket of his hand made silk shirt. He removed a bullet, but this one wasn't like the others he tended to carry; this was special Alliance grade. It was armor piercing, and the shell contained three times the kick of a normal round. He had been given a clip of these on a misson during the war, and he had killed all his targets with only four. All soldiers to a point are superstitious, and Jackson decided this last one was good luck. Since then he'd carried it with him. He slid it into the chamber of his weapon, and took aim again. He hoped this bullet had a bit of its old magic left.

She looked at Newton and mentioned, Well, you do realize we're all hired guns and if any one of us is taken out the others would get their share. If we're here to kill him, she nudged her head towards the senator, then what's stopping them from shooting this skiff down? she just grinned at Newton and leaned back.

Sylandra swore as the bullet failed to penetrate, and the two vehicles swerved into the turn. She barely managed to skin the right quarter panel against the sidewall as they finished the turn, and the distance started to open again.

"Can you punch the rear screen? " she yelled out the sun roof at Slade.

Travis looked down with a sigh, dropping the open bottle onto the womans' chest and making a fist with the other hand. He checked her pulse, turned away and moved toward the door. 'A new war' - that's what she'd said alright, with Mac providing the uniting intelligence. No wonder Hollows wanted him dead, a united front against the Alliance, especially at a time like this would just simply be bad for business. Bad for everyone. Reaching out he rested his fist against the comms unit by the door and spoke. "Your cyborg is dead, at least for the time being and unless Seliator is soon to join her, she won't be the last."

Silvia "Well, you do realize we're all hired guns and if any one of us is taken out the others would get their share. If we're here to kill him, then what's stopping them from shooting this skiff down?"

One of the others on the yellow hover leaned over and confidently said, "Well it might be the sigma nine armor plating skag, now shut your pie hole so ....."

Which was when the shot from Slade hit home and the back grav units gave a quite puff of blue smoke and the rear of the vehicle hit the road.

Just as it did the light at the end of the tunnel appeared and the yellow hover skidded out into busy late afternoon rush of a Londinium city street. Hovers dove and climbed to avoid the skidding yellow hover.

The red hover following had all it could manage to break and not crash into traffic that was now in complete disarray. They yellow hover crashed through a cafe crowd across the street; and into a small mall.

"Until next time Silvia. Back off this one little sister. The big fish are playing." said Newton before he disappeared out the door of the hover with Seliator over his shoulder. The other two followed. They moved low to avoid the line of sight of the those on the red hover and ducked into a an underground train.

An alcohol refill truck, just having topped off; then crashed into a stopped truck filled volatile chems. A huge explosion took place near the original crash site. The flaming mushroom cloud bloomed up through the street.

From the red hover Sylandra and Slade could see the Yellow hover across the street.
....

Above the city, Rose saw the explosion.

"Those must be ours."

As the sportster came out of the tunnel, hot on the heals of the limo, Sylandra saw that the traffic was going to be deadly. She slammed on the reverse altitude jets and spun sideways to careen into the curb near where the yellow hover had buried itself.

About the same time that two heavies collided and burst into flames.

" Liou coe shway duh biao-tze huh hoe-tze duh ur-tze! Can't get to them, now. "

She looked back up at Slade and shrugged.

"Your call, sniper babe. Ditch and run? On foot?"

When the bullet hit the gravs on the hover Silvia smirked at the men, Point in case. she boldly stated. When the hover started to go out of control the doctor shifted herself to brace for the impact.

After the crash she looked up at Newton with a trickle of blood running down from her scalp, Big fish make for the best catches. She took a moment to get to her feet, hopping herself up out onto the roof where Newton had taken Seliator and a pained expression came onto her face, dislocated shoulder, mild drugging, and now a tanker coming full tilt towards her, Gorram luck... and that's when the doctor tried to tuck and roll towards any kind of cover she could while her arms were still bound.

Slade was always looking to protect his most valued possess; that of course to a man with his ego was of course himself. He saw his bullet hit, just as the other hover was coming out into traffic. The sniper ducked back inside, dropping his rifle down on the back seat for the moment, then closed the sun roof with one hand and secured himself with the other. When he saw the traffic jam he'd caused, and the explosion, he was glad he had.

He chewed over his choices for a few seconds, then turned to Sylandra.

On foot? No way. Response teams will be here in minutes and I'd be grabbed in seconds hauling a gun with me, and I'd rather not answer questions about how I got my hands on Alliance tech to begin with. Also, by the size of that fire, I would say it would take too long to get around it on foot, the prey will slip off into the crowd by then, and my credits go out the window. So, I say, straight on till morning as the old saying goes. The other hover already punched a hole for us, I say we follow suit, our units still work fine and if we hit any civilians, well colateral damage happens and before you say anything about that, I learned it well from the Alliance during the War. What's good for the goose, yada yada. You driving and me shooting worked well before, I say we keep it up. We close the vents, hold our breaths, and you fly us through the heart of those flames like you were born to it. Only a few second exposure, shouldn't do more to this hover then burn the paint, the inside I don't think will heat up by much. If this crate doesn't hold up, well I was wrong in advance and someone paid way too much for this thing.

"You don't have anything to worry about, the ID of this car doesn't link back to us. Anyone you run over will be hung on the owner, not you."

Jackson reached back and retrieved his rifle. He ejected the clip that had a spent round, and slipped in a full one instead.

"You want my decision? No guts, no glory. 'Lay on McDuff, and damned be he who first cries hold, enough!'"
