Glory - Cargo Bay

Khei had asked if killing a man made her a bad person.

"Well, would he have killed you had you not gotten him first? Because of that and him breakin his vow to do no harm, I think you did the right thing."

Kayrn called over the Ship's Comm that there was a riot in progress at this space port. He reached up above where he hand Khei sat and punched a comm unit.

"On the way, Bridge"

To Khei he continued.

"I gotta go, Captainy things and all. Think you can help thess two stach folk in the galley? We need ta make everyone comfortable."

He patted her on the shoulder and stood.

"You're a hero in my book."

He turned to Remy.

"Take Mr. Coroso in that door and make him comfortable. I have to check the Med Bay before I get back to the Bridge."

Glory - Med Bay

He walked across the bay and poked his head in the Med Bay. Anders was tending a wound in Trina's shoulder. Mike was near by and the other man was helping put things in order.

"We're moving the rest of the wounded into the galley. Once you two are done here, please check on the rest. I'm needed on the Bridge. Riot at the spaceport here on Verbena."

He looked between Mike and Trina and nodded once.

"Mike, stay with her until she's comfortable. You'll be needed soon, I think.

With that he turned and made his way back to the Bridge

Glory - Bridge

The cover had shifted on Sonya and face had hardened, her lips formed into a thin, pressed line.

"Easy, Sonya. Your safe here. Your home, on the Glory."

He pulled the Mylar sheet back into place and moved toward the front.

"Oh, snap! I shoulda changed the registry. Too late now."

He turned his attention to Karyn.

"Contact Port Authority and tell them the situation. We can move to another site or another port. Let them know we have wounded as well."

He looked at Dom.

"I hope it goes better than last time."

He looked out at the throng of people and shook his head.

Karyn nodded to Ian. The red stain on her right shoulder was just noticeable. "Ay, Captain. " She flipped the ship-shore intercom. "Merchantman Glory to Verbena Port Authority. We have injured on board and are requesting landing instructions. Verbana Down Port appears to be under attack by unknown forces; local police barricading perimeter. Is there an alternate landing for us near medical assistance? Over."
But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free I've got nothing but affection for all those who sailed with me

TK lay there motionless for a few moments, before carefully peeling himself off the ground with a long groan. "It looked a lot closer from up there." he said, rising up into a sitting position and looking straight up, back into the tree. "Damn." he added.

Reaching out, he took hold of his partners hand. "Should've blown the pod while we were up there. Anyone comes looking they'll know we survived." With a heavy tug, Travis rose to his feet, his body protesting with various clicking and cracking noises. "Well that's not good." he muttered to himself.

Now that he was standing, he began scanning his surroundings. The world looked very different from 60ft. "I'm with the original plan. Leave before anyone starts asking questions. Couldn't see much up there, but it looked like the mountains were to our West, leaving civilisation in the opposite direction." he said quickly, while pacing around and fitting in the odd stretch.

Finally, his eyes fell in Slade's still functioning plasma rifle. With a quick glance upward he asked "Reckon you could hit the pod from here?"

Glory

There was no response from the Verbena Port authority. Just static. The crowd became violent as some of them disarmed the Police and began firing back. A stray bullet hit the the plating just above the helm window of Glory.

Tobias Hawke

The burning wreckage behind him, Tobias approached the entrance to the Capital city. Emergency vehicles and aircraft rushed past him as they responded to the Ziggurat crash site. Up ahead he saw a mob like scene as looters began smashing windows of shops and taking what they could, nearly trampling over each other with greed in their eyes. Several buildings were in ruins and on fire from the debris of the Alliance Cruiser.

Further down near the starport he saw a gun battle taking place between the Police and a large crowd of over one hundred people. Ships could be seen flying away from the area at great speed as they blasted off world. One ship in particular caught Havoc's eye as it hovered gracefully over a platform, undecided as to land or not.

Queen of the Lost Chapters
Trina had slipped into a weak, waking consciousness as she'd been lifted. There was more the sensation of being moved to one of the beds, set down upon it, than a real comprehension of the fact. Her wounds were stitched, an antibiotic given and she felt sleep pulling at her again.

And yet her mind tried to rebel. There was that muscle memory, the learned behavior, a developed habit to keep herself awake to see to the wounded. As she was laid back on the bed, she fought against drifting, but her body was unable to resist.

Sleep engulfed her, wrapping around her as her mother had so often held her as a child. And still her mind seemed to continue to try to process what was happening around her. There were men's voices, three she recognized but couldn't place through the haze of sleep. Their mere familiarity gave her the comfort she needed to let loose the clinical desire to cling to wakefulness.

Sleep and her own healing were needed. The furrow in her brow relaxed and faded as the peaceful sleep was allowed to take over and quiet her thoughts.

Slade helped his partner up, scoffing at the other man's comment.

"Can I hit it? You saw me shoot a man, in the neck, at fifty paces, and you want to know if I can make a shot at a little more than that at a large, stationary target? I'll pretend I'm not insulted. Just tell me what part of the pod you want the round to go."

As he talked, Jackson looked up through the limbs he'd just climbed down, and moved closer to, away from, and around the truck in search of the best line of sight.

Remy did what the Captain had said, and taken Corso to the door, made him as comfortable as he could, then went back to Jenna. Biff was a big man and would be taken care off, but Jenna was only a youngling and had gone through so much in their time together, he needed to tend to her, as her 'scars' maybe psychological and not physical like Biffs.

Biff looked at Becker and said, "Names Biff and it's a pleasure. Especially since you guys saved our bacon by getting us off that ship. Yeah you could say Sonya just fell into our lives." Biff thought for a second. "Twice now that I think about it. She's quite the wild card." Biff chuckled.

After the captain popped in and spoke to Becker Biff glanced at the doc seeing Michael's concern for her. "If you need any help when the captain comes a callin' let me know. I like to earn my keep and I can see that you have other priorities. Just let me know, I'll be back towards the cargo bay checking on my friends." He nodded to Trina. "Ma'am."

Cargo Bay

Biff walked back to the cargo bay and finding Remy, Jenna, and Corso sitting just in the hallway. He checked Corso's vitals quickly and then sat down next to his friends. "It's going to be nice to rest even for a minute." He said to both his friends and closed his eyes.

Requiem for a Hawke
Hawke's brows raised at the sight of the riots going on. His face scrunched slightly.

Things went to hell quick, eh?...

Something growled, angrily, in Tobias' vicinity. His free arm dropped the duffelbag and immediately gripped the hand cannon that sat so rightly on his leg.

The growl petered out, and it dawned on Havoc that it was his own stomach growling. He smirked, ever so slightly, but it didn't last. As if wrapping itself into a vicious knot, his intestines cramped horribly, bringing the monster of a man down to a knee, arm wrapped around his midriff.

His stubbled jaw hung open, facing the ground, and he shook in pain as his body tried to decide between dry heaving and consuming itself.

"W-what?... Why?..." He hissed, groaning through a snapped-shut jaw. Moments of the last week ripped back through his mind, flashes of memories he wasn't even sure belonged to him. Through all the things he could remember - he couldn't see a single time where he last ate, and who knows how long it had been since he ate before he woke up in Eavesdown.

Rising, though not without heavy resistance from his stomach, Tobias flung the tube-shaped duffel bag over his shoulder, and looped the strap over his arm. Gripping his gun, he took off toward the masses of people.

Gotta get off this rock before they seal it! Gods only know what else could be wrong with me if I haven't noticed I'm starving...

As he approached the chaos - little of which concerned him, Havoc's breathing became more ragged, even though the short jog was not the most intensive - or... Had it always been a bit haggard?

Not far off in the chaos, Hawke spied a floating ship, perhaps the only sane thing in all the chaos. Every other ship was rocketing out of port like bats out of hell, but this one was simply idling over the platform. With little time to second guess the situation, Havoc made a beeline for the hovering ship, his empty left sleeve whipping limply in his wake.

With each thumping footfall, as he moved cautiously and quickly into the looted chaos, toward the nearby landing pad, Hawke could feel his feet barking, thumping in time with his raised heartbeat. His joints felt like they were creaking as he moved, and his own panting could easily be heard above the cacophony of looting and shooting.

What the gorram hell is my body do-

You've been running for over a hundred and twenty hours now. You know that, right?

Hawke stopped dead, gripping his pistol to the point of white knuckles.

No food, barely any sleep... You've used a lifetime's worth of adrenalin, and now there's none left, so what did you think would happen?...

His vision crossed, then sharpened painfully.

I warned you... It's all gonna come crashing down soon.

Drawing his weapon with a growl, Tobias leaned forward, ready to stomp his boot down and press on.

And I don't just mean mentally.

As if on command, it was like the strength drained from his leg. Buckling at the ankle and knee in rapid succession, Hawke was sent face first into the asphalt like a ragdoll, his metal parts scraping and clattering through the leather of his duster.

Peeling his cheek off the ground, he rose, pushing his gun-filled fist against the world just hard enough to look ahead. He hocked a throatful and spat heavily onto the ground - he saw more blood hit the pavement than he had hoped, and he couldn't taste it.

See you soon.

Wide eyed, Tobias pushed off the ground hard, boots scraping along to bring him up into a run. His eyes bore fire, but the bags under them meant it wouldn't last long. With his only arm, massive silver hand cannon gripped tight, he stretched it as far as he could into the air, waving maniacally at the hovering ship.

"HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!" He bellowed, despite the fact that he probably couldn't be heard above the crowd, let alone the ship's own engines. His body quaked and his stomach convulsed - it bucked and heaved inside him, and all manner of little pains suddenly came to life.

He waved his only arm like his life depended on it, bouncing off the ground only so high as he dared to risk another face to face with the hard tar.

Glory

Anders walked to the cargo bay and looked over at Biff. "Your going to need that wound taken care of. I'm no medic, but I've patched up holes here and there." Anders said confidently, referring to his war experience.

Corso started groaning as he held his head and began to come to. "Gor-am. Anyone got a Cig?" He held his head with his hands as he looked around.

Verbena Forest - Just Outside the Capital

A path through the forest streched to the west and the east. TK and Slade could go West to the mountains or East towards the city. As they were talking they heard something moving in the brush. They were suddenly confronted by two men, one on each end of the path. They were both wearing black cowboy hats and black dusters. They whipped their dusters back as they went for their sidearm. Any experienced hunter would know what this is. A setup.

Ian had said it. "You're safe here." That made a spark in the consciousness of Sonya Gulliver. Cards stopped shuffling and began to sort into piles. Clarity of half sleep logic, obvious lessoned learned, and free forming subconscious intuition were put in piles.

Sonya managed to move to one elbow after releasing the chair's straps around her shoulders. She looked around. Captain Naked on the bridge, she was too... not her, but her other her, the one that had the files, on her (get back to that later); and someone that should be familiar but she must have forgotten.

They were talking, riots and lions and tigers and things on fire.

Her eyes were dreamy, but Ian must see that she knew the truth. He couldn't hide it from her anymore. "Sunk a city ship, crims hate Glory from rim to core, everyone one on board is a terrorist, or branded as one, verse is going to hell in a bowling bag. Safe?"

"What could make us less safe?" Sonya let her head drift back to her curled up arm. She shuffled the cards.

A riot on Verbana. "Out of the frying pan, into another frying pan with eyes set on an other frying pan." Mike muttered, watching others take their leave as he did so. By captain's orders which coincidently crossed paths with some of his wishes, Becker was left at Trina's side. You'll be needed soon. He was left considering that comment. Would his shooting arm be required soon? Or was it perhaps reference toward him and Trina's relationship? Dugan was well 'versed when it came to women.

Michael came back around to Trina's side and looked upon her for a moment. He tilted his head to align them, so that he may imagine her standing opposite him. She'd moved to a peaceful state, one that Becker was glad to see, but that wasn't the only reason Mike managed a small smile.

Crossing the room, Becker retrieved a stool from it's knocked down position, then returned to lay the portable seat beside Trina. He took his seat and leaned his back against the counter. No one was asking him to think right now, and he welcomed the closest thing to peace and quiet he could get aboard Glory.

"Sorry, boss. No glory. I'll try... what the..."

Karyn tore off her headset and squinted at the carnage out the front plastiglass window. Her vision started to tunnel and she was surprised that at the end of that focus was a strange man jumping up and waving with one arm. Her heart beat started to pound as her left hand slid down the side of the yoke.

The ringing in her ears increased in volume as she tried to turn away, but for some reason the Glory turned its nose toward the odd scene ahead of her, and wouldn't move away. The thrusters stayed on hover and bullets spang off the side of the ship.

"If I didn't know better, I'd swear that we were under attack. Anyone got a stogie? I'm feeling a bit parched."

Her eyes started to roll back into her head.

TK's eyes fell from the tree above at the sound of movement to either side. Sure enough, there approached two locals, both dressed in black, not exactly the colour he was hoping for. "It can wait." he whispered quietly to Slade, tapping the man on the shoulder to alert him.

Before anyone had a chance to utter another word, the pair were arming themselves. Shoot first, ask questions later. Travis certainly approved of the style, but that wasn't his first thought. He dropped to one knee and reached for the sideways gear bag he'd dropped from above.

Keeping low the present a smaller target, he shielded the bag from view as he reached inside. A few seconds later, he pulled out a handheld sized length of steel. He flicked it sideways and a sharp, curved blade appeared at its tip as if from nowhere. As he then rose back to his feet, he brought his throwing arm back before fully extending it and letting the blade fly toward the man approaching from the East.

Slade heard the rustling, and played his scope in the direction of the sound out of reflex. He saw a man emerge from the West over the barrel of the plasma, and kept the gun trained just in case. When the stranger went for his gun, Jackson realized he'd played his hunch right. He had the man's head in his cross-hairs, and fired. The instant after he fired, the sniper let his left leg go dead and let his body weight lead him into a roll. His goal was the brush this figure had just come from. TK's tap let him know there was probably a second shooter behind him, and Slade had no desire to be in a cross fire, just in case he wasn't as good a shot as he remembered...

Verbena Forest

TK's blade impaled the throat of the man on the Eastern path as blood sprayed out of his neck. He fell to his knees and then to the stomach. At the same time Slade won the draw as the man on the Western path fell backwards as the the snipers bullet blew his head apart, brain matter and blood scattering the area.

A blinking light flashed in the eastern gunmans left duster pocket.

TK watched the blade impact with a satisfying crunch and immediately rose to his feet. "Forget the pod." he shouted back to Slade, confident that the single round fired had found its target. He approached the downed, bleeding target, reaching down, he pulled the blade from the mans half open neck, wiping the blood off the blade as best he could in the forrest grass. Then with a swift quick he rolled the man onto his front and removed the black duster.

Travis raised it into the air and turned, slipping it on and hiding his scarred armor underneath as best he could. He took another quick glance down at the body, a pool of blood now beginning to grow around it. "Amateurs." he muttered. It was at that point that he caught sight of the flashing, coming from the mans pocket. Letting out a low sigh, he reached in to find out what.

Slade heard the shout, and lifted his head to see out of the brush where his roll had landed him. He saw both men dead, his partner already looting one of the corpses. Not wanting to be left out of the fun, Jackson approached the other cadaver, and rolled him. He was looking for anything useful, and claimed the dead man's revolver for the creds it could be sold for later, which made it's way into his carpet bag. There was little else of interest, the former pirate liked both his hat and coat over that of his fallen prey. Barring any creds he might find, Jackson turned his attention back to TK.

"Got a revolver I might be able to sell for a few creds, other than that my stiff is pretty much a bust. You find anything good on yours?"

TK pulled a handheld cortex out of his pocket. The screen was still unlocked, the gunman failed to resecure it. A message was on the screen as a small green light blinked in the corner of the device, indicating a new message.
