Requiem for a Hawke
|
Tobias sighed as he tapped his finger against the trigger, eyebrow raised. Aside from being rather upset that his tactic had failed due to unforeseeable- well... Nothing was technically unforeseeable to him, if what Grimm said was true - due to uncontrollable events, the tank was bust. He was essentially still in space, too; regardless of the tank's condition, he had to wait until he was well inside atmo - if he ejected beforehand, he would freeze to death almost instantly. The song played out into another track, but Tobias switched off the music. During the interim, waiting for the sharded tank to reach a safe eject distance with another almost bored sigh, Tobias fiddled with his seatbelt, making sure it was secured, before looking around to try and find a helmet to wear. There was little doubt in his mind that an airtank wouldn't rip up entering atmo, even with damage. They're designed to do just this. He sighed a third time, waiting patiently for the tank to hopefully hit an ejectable height without exploding. |

The two men in suits and blue gloves watched the destruction unfold from their space craft. "Running a scan now." "No energy readings except the single escape pod. All on board are terminated. Prepare to close out case file and return to base. Operative will be planet side to intercept pod." The space craft did an about face and blasted off into the opposite direction. The escape pod burned through the atmosphere before crashing into a the forest on the outskirts of a populated city. The pod broke through several trees before getting stuck in the branches of a tree about 60 feet tall. TK and Slade felt the buckle from the impact as a red light blared on the console. |

Karyn let out a choked " Da-shiang bao-tza shr duh lah doo-tze! Gorram inverted Immelmann... HANG ON!!" She pulled back on the throttle and pointed the nose of the Glory straight at the upcoming ground. Letting gravity do its worse, she rode the frantically vibrating yoke until it came back under control, even as the ground soared up to greet them. One eye stayed on the red flashing WARNING light, counting the seconds until it went back off and she could put just enough power back into the thrusters to pull out of the death defying dive. " Chu2fei1 wo3 si3 le5", she whispered to herself. |

Karyn could feel the ship through the throttle and there was a moment where she thought she had lost it. That the ship was going to break apart and they were all going to die. But that moment had passed and her gamble paid off. Glory did a nose dive towards the surface as it came out of its spin. She could see an airtank in the distance losing control as well and the ground quickly approaching. The warning light turned off as the engine restarted and power came back on. The free fall gave the engine enough time to cool down. Pulling the throttle back, Karyn blasted Glory back through the atmosphere and into the black. Verbena slowly became smaller in the distance as Glory cruised towards the Baroness. They made it. |

Sonya drank best as she could from a bottle of water that she found in a reachable cupboard, though half a dozen went rolling along the floor to the front of the ship. She was with impassionate eyes, considered death; not going to put humpty back from this one. But the purple belly had good instinct, hadn't hesitated. "A chip off the ole block." she said of Karyn as Glory rose and climbed. And then they were on their way. The chair streched out. "Told you she would hold together." and then she slept. |

Becker had hooked his arm around the bed leg so that his hold required less on strength and more on his existence. His concentration went to holding onto Trina, making sure she wasn't rolled around the med bay. She returned a grip on him that only aided her security. The turbulence that occurred during the spin provided much in the way of concern. It demanded that Mike and Trina be thrown across room, but Becker held out and in return felt as though his arm was being pulled from it's socket. He clenched his eyes and mouth open in anticipation of two things. One was a return to a peaceful and gentle ride, the other was peaceful for all the wrong reasons. Soon enough, Mike felt the strain on his elbow and shoulder diminish, and the ship with a few more bumps along the way eventually managed to level out. He was left in the relative quiet of the med-bay, breathing heavily and with a hold on Trina. His eyes were wide for a moment, but as adrenaline wore off his body was sure to remind him of the bullet that had skimmed his head, the bruise on his side and the wear on his arm. He seemed to remember being punched today too. Hoping their current state was not false safety, Mike simply took a moment, leaned his head back and closed his eyes. |

When the ship shifted Biff opened his eyes to more darkness and he reach over to grab the wall. It happened to be the wrong wall and he hung out trying hard to hold on not want to fall into anyone else. then the ship leveled off and he was back on the floor. Well that's that. He chided himself for even thinking it may bring bad luck but he felt truly that it was finished. Biff looked around the med bay. "Does anyone need anything?" Glory - Bridge Ian released his white knuckled grip on the Third seat controls, breath a sigh of relief and patted his console. "Good Girl." He looked over at Karyn "That was some good flyin. Only other person I've seen do something like that was Tobias Hawke, sittin right there in that chair." He looked back at Sonya, saw her asleep and stood. He pulled out a mylar space blanket and covered her with it. "Set course to Verbena for now. I've gotta see to my new crew and passengers." He stopped at the doorway out. "Which are you? ... Let me know when you figure that out" He made his way to the Cargo Bay to check on those there. Some injuries, but no deaths. Edited by ian dugan, Apr 16 2013, 01:47 AM.

Travis held on tightly to the seat restraints as the pair were buffeted about, before stopping suddenly. He waited a few seconds, exhaling slowly. TK could feel the slightly swaying of the craft from side to side, it didn't bode well. Nor did the rather ominous looking warning light. "We're either there, or dead. Best get moving regardless." he said and began to undo his seat restraints. |

Like Jenna, Remy had only shut his eyes for a moment, when a shudder came through the ship. Jenna was up first, and Remy's eyes shot open. Had he spoken too soon? Were they really safe? Remy heard a announcement over the comm link, in order to brace for shock. Taking Jenna he quickly ran to somewhere where he they could do that, and they did. Then it seemed like the ship had righted itself, and for a moment, it was smooth sailing, but Remy waited for a bit before moving. Remy saw the one of the guys who was arguing with Corso outside the ship, Remy thought he had heard the name Ian bandied about in relation to the gentleman. Remy didn't care about the pedantics of the word "Captain", the guy had let them on and was grateful. Remy walked over to the guy, can introduced himself "Sir, my name is Remy Rokash, thank you for letting me, and my friends come aboard your ship" Edited by ribsource, Apr 16 2013, 10:48 AM.

Queen of the Lost Chapters

Fighting to hang on had gotten easier for Trina, though for several long seconds, she didn't realize why. Then the security of the arm around her and a warm body beside her. Against the force of the spin, she'd managed to turn her head to see it was Mike. She held on to him as best she could through the spinning, though her vision began to narrow and she felt herself growing weaker and weaker. Just as she felt she was going to slip away, fall into the darkness that was growing around her, the ship seemed to right itself and the ride smoothed out. Slowly, the breath she didn't realize she'd been holding was let out and with it, the last of the strength she could muster. She wanted to sleep, needed it. And now, with no further shaking or spinning and the feel of someone protecting her, her eyes began to close slowly. There were other injuries, others who needed help. And she was too tired to try to stay awake to help. Her body rested a little more heavily against Mike, her head nodding and finally dropping against his shoulder. "Just a few minutes... let me sleep a few minutes..." she murmured before the warmth of sleep wrapped around her. |

His head was left hanging back, but Mike opened his eyes and peered down as he felt warm pressure on his shoulder. A simply exhausted doctor was leaning against, murmuring with regard to her fatigue. The sight caused the corners of his lips to turn upward and the hand he had around Trina held her a little tighter. He looked over to the others in the room and held up his free hand, palm facing them in a gesture that asked for no interference. Trina was still in need of some attention, but the current moment of comfort was far too good to have it removed so quickly. "Five minutes." Becker's eyelids crawled shut again. He knew he had things to do, but first he just wanted five minutes. |

Khei had passed out during the tailspin. Now she was just coming back to reality. With a groan she removed herself from where she'd restrained herself and slumped onto the floor. On her hands and knees, she dry heaved a few times, the world still spinning within her head. Each convulsion bringing nothing but a retching pain in her gut as her stomach had nothing left to purge. Using a sleeve of the smock to wipe away saliva from her mouth she sat back against the wall, tucking her knees up to her chest, and rested her head on her folded arms. Between the nausea, dizziness, and confused emotions she was feeling, she was pretty sure this was the worst she'd ever felt in her life. Edited by Khei, Apr 16 2013, 12:19 PM.

Tobias Hawke There was no helmet in the airtank as Tobias searched. The airtank kept spinning round and round. Faster and faster. The descent was now at 10,000 feet and dropping as he broke through a cloud cluster, the flashing red warning lights creating an eerie glow in the cockpit. |

Slade undid the straps of his seat, and stood up. It took a minute for him to get his footing on the slightly shifting floor, when he had he made his way to the door. He looked out the window, and let out a whistle. He went back to his supplies, reached into his carpet bag, and took out his sniper scope. He returned to the porthole, raised the glass to his eye and looked out again. "Looks like we're resting in a tree, and I hope you're not afraid of heights because we're about sixty feet up. I'm going to have my hands full on the way down, do you think you could manage the rations and a med kit if this pod has one? Someone might find the pod and claim it before we could sell it, and I would hate to leave empty handed. Alliance grade meds would fetch a good price." " |

TK got to his feet and made his way over to the window. The whole pod shifted slightly to one side, so he risked a quick glance out before returning toward the other side. "What're the chances." he replied quietly, hands now busy packing supplies into a now tattered looking duffle bag. He threw a few bars of rations in, the final mag for the Alliance issue rifle, as well as a small med kit, then began searching for any other compartments. "Not that I don't enjoy the challenge, but jumping isn't our plan, right?" |

Slade shook his head. "Not unless you want two broken legs, minimum. I'm no expert, but I say we work our way down the branches low as we can, then slide down the trunk the rest of the way. Unless you have a different plan?" As he talked, Jackson made his way to his gear and unstrapped it. He slung the strap for the plasma sniper rifle over his shoulder and took his carpet bag in hand as he awaited a response. Edited by Devil Tongue, Apr 16 2013, 02:48 PM.

Requiem for a Hawke
|
A final sigh was followed only with a splitting grin yet again. Tobias' eyes lit up as the ticker passed ten thousand feet rapidly. A thought passed through his mind - in his own voice no less - but it was directed back at him, like another figure was present upstairs, another Hawke. You're going to regret all of this. You know that, right? After you touch down, after you get out from under the Ziggurat's shadow and fire, it's all going to collapse on you?... Hawke paused. "That's your problem - not mine! Rock and roll, baby! Pull the trigger!" He ripped the yellow handle upward as hard as he could with his single hand. A few rapid, hard breaths followed, saturating his lungs with oxygen before one final breath as he pulled. In his mind, a sick guitar riff unrolled again. SHOOT TO THRILL! WAY TO KILL! |

Karyn smiled to herself as Ian left. I figure I must be crew if I'm the one flying. I'll have to do something about a new identity. Let 'Wolverine' go down in flames as she always wanted. Dead with the rest of Ziggurat. So many faces in the 'Verse, should be able to slip by unnoticed. She eased the yoke around and left the Glory practically fly herself. Soon, to verbena's main star port. Then to settle accounts with Ian and the rest of them. Maybe for once, a life unfettered by ass holes and elbows. |

Travis returned Slade's shake of the head, quickly looking down to his feet then back up to the man. "Nope. Rather fond of my legs." Following suit, he took hand of his own gear and approached the sealed hatch. The red light flashing nearby drew his attention, and he tapped the release button. There was a slow hiss followed by the groaning and tearing of mechanical parts. The whole pod shook again as the hatch pivoted on its hinges, froze momentarily, then fell off and raced toward the ground below. "Ladies first." TK said inviting, waving toward the opening with a free hand. |
