IAV Ziggurat; With one hand they steady, and with the other they strike.

The massive ship floated high above the planet of Verbana, shining down on it like a beacon of civilization. Even to the well travelled spacer, the IAV Ziggurat was an impressive sight. Hundreds of decks stretching across kilometers of space and home to thousands, it was the most recently commissioned and now largest in active service of the Alliance fleet. Its presence here, while comforting to some, presented far more worries to others.

"Orders?" asked the navigation officer with a quick flick of the head. A young man leaned forward in his chair, Colonel markings on his shoulders. "Maintain orbit, establish a lockdown above all star ports, beginning scanning last known reported locations, and…" he paused, looking to his XO. "…wait for the rest of the fleet to catch up?" she suggested with a smile. A low ripple of laughter echoed around the bridge. The Colonel grinned, relaxing back into the command chair, filled with confidence. He had the best ship, personally selected the crew and was reviewing a selection of deployment options. His grin soon faded. Now this, an emergency lockdown of Verbana after a series of terrorist attacks. He fought the urge to scowl, that wasn't the way men of honour fought, and he was going to wipe them from existence. "Sir, getting reports from the planet, local forces have engaged them on several fronts." came an aged voice from across the bridge. "Good." he replied solemnly.

A trio of fighters zipped past the large, curved window of the bridge. Colonel Maru starred out in the blackness, his mind elsewhere. The Comms officer looked up from their screen and turned to him. "Sir, we've received orders to extract some ground forces." His eyes refocused, his attention jumping back to the moment at had. "Ours?" he asked calmly. "No sir, but it's flagged as priority one, further intel to follow." She said, almost managing to sound confused.

Maru rose him his chair and headed toward the window, whatever this was it was serious enough for someone at the other end of the chain to give a shit. Looking down at the surface of Verbana, he simply wondered what it was. "You heard the man, lets get 'em up here." The atmosphere on the bridge changed, as people now busied themselves at their stations.

Outside in the vacuum of space, a pair of in-atmosphere Airtanks disengaged from the underside of the ship, quickly flying toward the surface of the planet, before begin joined by a third, small, transport craft.

It seemed that the sewers were their best bet, but it seemed that the original trio were not up for that, but there was no other way, Biff seemed to make a joke, and then all hell broke loose. A flash bang happened, and the next thing he knew, apart from the ringing in his ears and the stars in his eyes, was a jab in his neck, and then darkness.

Remy woke up with a start, inhaling deeply and sharply, only to find himself, almost back where he started. A room, a cell, a prison. Remy lifted his knees to his chest, put his hands in his hands, and rested them on his knees. He didnt cry, but he was on the verge of doing it.

Remy just sat there

<Continued from Looking for a Ride>

The halls of Detention Block A remanded eerily quietly, save for the low constant hum of the giant ship around them. Suddenly a load alarm began ringing loudly and out of nowhere. It continued it's deafening whine for a straight sixty seconds before slowly fading back into nothing. Anyone who had previously been unconscious found themselves now wide awake.

They found themselves in a series of evenly spaced out cells, one per customer. Their clothing had been replaced with some standard issue prisoner gear, their equipment gone with no clue as to where. Only three plain white walls, and one transparent side which faced out onto a dimly lit hallway. If one pressed their face against the glass, they could just catch sight of the prisoner opposite.

------
<Continued from Say It Ain't So>

Travis watched with some interest as Slade tried not to squirm in their present company. He threw a glance sideways, then the other, momentary glimpses of their two new friends, before looking back to the sniper with a small grin, Alliance, sure they were bastards through and through, but there were certainly worse employers to have. It definitely helped that the person paying your wages also printed the money…. TK offered the man a quick shrug, before rising to his feet at the sound of hissing.

"We're here." he said simply and looked to the unconscious Hawke. He reached down, picking up his plasma rifle and throwing it to Slade, before taking his kit bag in hand. "Boys, if you don't mind." he said, directing the two guards to their new prisoner, before turning and walking off the transport.

Marching down the ramp and out onto the deck outside, Travis paused and took a moment to look around the massive structure. Dozens of different types of smaller craft lay scattered around the place, small knots of people around them with others drifting in-between. From out of the crowd, a charming young red haired civilian appeared. "Gentlemen, right this way. We'll take the prisoner from here. Is there anything I can get you?"

--------

Maru nearly jumped from his chair when he heard. "Two HUNTERS? We're working with gorram AMATEURS?" he yelled, to which the bridge crew looked about nervously, unsure as to whether it was an actual question. The man let out a long sigh, rubbing at his temples as he did so. He looked over his shoulder, then the other. "Where's the XO?" he asked, but nobody seemed to know the answer.

Remy shook of the feeling of uselessness and got up, but suddenly, an alarm went off, Remy covered his ears, it cushioned the noise somewhat but was still piercing nonetheless. The sound stopped, and Remy looked around.

Glass, three walls and a fourth of glass. Remy walked up to the glass, putting his face against it, he tried in vein to somehow see what was next to their cell.

Hawke's single remaining, non-shredded arm, and his unsurprisingly immense weight made him difficult for even two men to manoeuvre. Every time they touched him, he felt... Cold. Whether it was an arm, the coat, his hat, Hawke just felt cold. Not the cold of a dead body, but cold as if he had just come straight out of a freezer... Or as if he were still in it, emanating the feeling of unnerving chill ever so slightly.

Or was it just a figment of the imagination? Maybe just his reputation preceding him - after all, 'the most wanted man in the universe' lay unconscious on the flight deck... It really was hard to tell these little nuances aboard massive ships...

Slade spent the relatively short trip trying to get the two Alliance men to open up to him, more to practice his skill than any real interest in bonding. He knew he needed a mutual topic, so the sniper picked an obvious one; Tobias Hawke. One of the men jerked as though he would have spit on the outlaw if his visor hadn't been in the way, and in short order Jackson was told in a disgusted tone just all of what the captured figure had done. The smooth talker then complimented the Alliance for their attempt to capture the dangerous fellow, and said the soldier's family must be proud of him, and might even follow in his footsteps. By the time the transport docked, the former pirate had found out that the guard had a ten year old son on a core planet who'd just had a birthday, and did indeed want to be just like his dad.

Yep, he still had it.

When the hatch opened, TK threw Slade his gun. He didn't bother turning in his sidearm though, so the other figured the big man simply expected the deserter to carry the thing. So Jackson shouldered the large weapon, then did the same with the plasma sniper rifle. The tranq. version he left on the deck of the transport, favoring a more fatal approach to his targets normally. Besides the clip was partly spent and he had no fresh ammo for it. Besides, the ex-pirate didn't want to know what his companion might do if he found out his gun was left behind.

Jackson figured no one would care, not when by the looks of the ship he was outnumbered at least a thousand to one, and most if not all of those armed. Alliance snipers were deadly good, Slade knew this because he'd once trained some of them. He might beat one or two to the draw, but not a squad. Or they'd just read his file, find out he wasn't much for close quarters, and send someone in tight to take him out that way. In short, him walking aboard this ship with a few weapons wasn't going to raise any alarms, and he assumed he was being watched besides. So, with that happy though in mind, the sniper dusted himself off, rubbed the tops of his boots against the other pants leg to shine them a bit, then took his carpet bag and disembarked.

Slade took a look around as well, impressed with the sheer size of the bay. He had been on a few Alliance ships in the past, but none so large and commanding as this one. He approached TK after a minute, and saw the redhead. He strode right up to her, took her hand in his, and kissed the back of it while tipping his hat with his free hand.

"A pleasure to meet you, mi'lady. Slade Jackson at your service. I could use a place to clean up as it got a bit dusty down there, and a hot meal wouldn't hurt. I also might do with some company for the latter."

Biff woke to the alarms and the dull faculties that come with being drugged. Looking at his jumpsuit he sighed. He'd have to kill someone for his gear this time. It'll be Edgecombe.

Nothing around him and no sign of his friends but he could sense they were close. Looking out of the window he could barely see anything of import. This didn't bode well. It's harder to formulate a plan with no gorram information.

"Hey! Is anyone else out there. If it's a guard how about some water? I ain't drinking from the toilet so don't waste your breathe if that's your suggestion. Heh heh." Biff did examine the toilet and tested the flush. It worked so he relieved his strained bladder and flushed it again. He then realized that the top of the toilet had a tiny sink built in. Nice space savers you pencil pushing accountant fools. Lowest bidder grumble grumble. He took a drink to clear the drug induced cottonmouth he had and went back to the glass pressing his face to it and straining to see his extreme left and right.

"Hey Remy! Jenna! Silas! Anyone there! Like sardines in a can huh?"

As Remy looked out onto the corridor, he could see some of his friends. Biff in the one directly across, Jenna to one side and Silas on the other. He looked to either end of the hall, but it seemed strangely out of focus and appeared to stretch endlessly into the distance. "Hey, you mind keeping it down? Warden here's kind of a bitch." An unfamiliar voice echoed down the corridor at the prisoners.

Travis turned to look at Slade with an amused grin, the young woman merely offered him a giggle. "Of course, I'll show you directly to where your accommodation, and maybe after I finish my shift…" she began, glancing down toward her feet as she toyed nervously with her hair, but her train of thought was lost as the rather familiar looking PDA in her hand hummed softly. She read it quickly then looked back to the two Hunters. "…apologies, we need to be moving, follow me" she said, offering the two a quick nod, and subtle wink, before walking away. TK watched her leave, before turning to his new comrade with a low sigh. "We're here for work, not play." he stated with an un-impressed tone. "Job's not done, and she, is not what she seems." And with that he was gone and after her.

Meanwhile, Hawke shifted between different realities for what seemed like an eternity, catching the occasional glimpse of his captors, a few words here and there, nothing he could yet make sense of. A moment later he was awake, the sudden realization of consciousness. Something underneath his skin began to itch, at first a possible side effect of the tranq, but it soon became clear it was nothing physical. He opened his eyes, only to begin blinking rapidly. The world around him was drained of colour, the harsh contrast of the space in which he lay was difficult to look at. Her heard the sound of a long, drawn out scream from somewhere far away, and with that the saturation rushed back into his vision. He could see now, and found himself lying naked and paralysed in what appeared to be some sort of plastic coffin. Something must have registered in his breathing, as a calming voice then whispered to him. "Please remain calm, Mr. Hawke, this will be over shortly."

Remy could see the others, in other 'cells', it was just him, he wanted to pound the glass, but he knew it wouldn't help. Remy had been in a cell before, at the start of his journey, but he was surrounded by people who knew what to do, he was just an accessory, now, here, he was alone.

Remy looked at his friends, and couldnt help but feel totally useless.

Silas shifted slightly at the sound of his name being called. He stretched, and opened his eyes. He was locked in a glass shell. "Ooh this is bad, well good in a way seeing as I got off that rock. He rose to his feet and shook his legs a bit. He looked over at the side of the cell at where the cot lay. welded to the floor against a frigid wall. No form of blankets to keep him warm. "Oh well it would have been nice to at least have been laid on the cot."
Silas then ran his fingers through his hair, half-heartedly combing through the tangled matted mess. "My bad guys, just a minor setback!!" He called as he moved to the pane that kept him from the walkway. He maneuvered himself so he was against the wall. He began running his fingers along the edge of the glass, attempting to ascertain a weakness in his cell. He closed his eyes and let his sense of touch tell him everything he needed to know. The glass was no good, the walls, he'd keep checking.

"How are y'all being treated? Comfier than I am I'd hope?" He called a grin on his face, defying the fear held tightly in his chest. "Why can't we go... Why couldn't have we just run... Why'd they have to be waiting for us." his mind raced with a thousand questions, trapped wasn't in his vocabulary and his friends needed him. He had to get out. he felt the material under his fingertips; nooks, crannies, bumps and gouges, nothing spectacular.

"Finish the job? It's finished, the bounty has been turned in, the only thing left to do is collect my creds. Unless you know something I don't?"

Slade kept pace with TK as they both followed the red haired woman.

Glory landed successfully in one of the many large docking bays of the ship. The hissing sound slowly faded, indicating that the docking bay was now pressurized. Once Glory opened it's hatch they would be greated by a medical team with a streched and a squad of armed Alliance Feds.

Head pounding.

The alarm screaming in the hall did nothing to help the headache that was pounding in the back of Jenna's head. She began to slowly sit up and take a look at where she was.

Vision blurry.

It took her several seconds to realize where she was and then she started to panic. she didn't like being locked up and now this seemed like it was going to be a whole lot more serious then being locked up for getting caught for picking the wrong guys pocket.

"Hey Remy! Jenna! Silas! Anyone there! Like sardines in a can huh?"

“Um yeah I'm here. Jenna called back trying to keep the panic from her voice. She looked around at the cell and tried to get a look at her neighbours.

Everyone was still together and that was what was important. Now what sort of trouble had they gotten themselves into this time and how were they going to get out of it.

Ian had asked everyone to meet in the cargo bay, with Trina and Anders in the Med Bay. Telling Trina that Cole had not made it was one of the hardest things he had ever had to do.

His body was still covered by the sheet he had place

As the airlock irised open he saw the troops and Medics.

"Two for you in the Med bay with the Doc. Plus one who didn't make it."

He paused waiting for the troop leader to arrive. His guns were in plane sight and he made no move toward them.

"I'm Ian Dugan, the Captain of the ship. Thanks for the assist."

The Feds snapped to attention and saluted Ian. Ian was verified from a scan of his ident card as a high ranking Alliance Soldier. A Soldier who had the rank of Sergeant approached Ian. "Lt. Commander. We are glad to have you aboard. The Commander is expecting a full debrief of your intel. It has been a few weeks since you reported in. If you would follow me this way. The rest of your crew will be seen to." The Sergeant gestured Ian to a nearby elevator.

A small squadron of Feds entered Glory with the strecher and a pair of medics.

Trina was in no way fully recovered. She'd known, even before Ian had come to talk to her, that Cole was gone. Even so, she hadn't been able to stop the tears. Instead of staying in bed, which was where she knew she ought to be, she'd gotten herself up, fully changed her clothes and returned to the med bay. Since returning, she'd done nothing but apologize to Khei, and silently to Cole.

Her eyes were red, her skin still pale and she felt weak. To keep from repeating her previous fainting spell, she'd been careful since getting out of bed to move slowly and carefully. She now sat beside Khei, whose leg had been tended well enough by Anders. The sound of the clock had long stopped echoing in her head, but she prayed it would start back up. To her, it meant there was still a chance. All she heard was the steady, normal indicators of the medical monitors on the unconscious man in the second bed.

To anyone else, the room looked like what could be considered normal. Bloody and depressing perhaps, but normal. What Trina saw, was the myriad of faces that had passed from this life to the next, their last moments in her care. Now, among them, was the young face of Cole. None of them looked angry or even upset. They smiled faintly to her. They weren't all present at once, faces fading in and out, one replacing another, though there were two that remained constant. Cole... and behind every other face that presented itself, her mother.

And as she waited, and watched, Trina was unaware that she was humming the same tune she'd played, even sang, with everyone of them.

Michael hadn't had much to say.

When he learnt of Cole's true condition he hadn't had much to say. He'd barely acknowledged the update with more than a deep breath and a swallow of spit. He hadn't even argued when Ian insisted on disturbing Trina to inform her, despite not liking it. Protest didn't even appear for a Trina who was now keen to be on her feet and present, even thought it was against what he thought best for her.

Becker had only moved into action to allow the Alliance on board. Through the small window that looked upon the docking area, he had investigated the Alliance solider's identification before opening up the entrance. The ship should have been convincing enough, but Mike wasn't too keen on taking chances anymore.

From there he had moved back up to the med bay and hung around like a shadow for the rest of the crew. Watching for something that might require him, in silence.

Remy saw 'his people' they were all around him, Jenna, and Biff, and well, to a certain extent Silas. It seemed they had all been taken, but at least they were together. Remy was trapped, and on his own, sure his friends were there, but they weren't with him, how were they gonna get out of this? Would the Feds who took them in find out about him already busting out of prison before? Questions ran through his head, but no answers came.

Ian rolled his eyes at the Sargent as he identified him.

"Cat's out a the bag now, Soldier."

He had told Mike and would have told the rest. He believed Khei knew but never asked..

He began to walk in the direction indicated by the Sergeant but stopped and turned around when Cole's body was brought off the Glory. He snapped to attention and saluted his crewman. Cole had only just arrived and now was dead. Charon had is pay for anyone else going by way of the River Styx as far as he was concerned

They'd all paid it in blood.

Cole's blood he thought.

He dropped the salute, shook his head.

"XO, you have the Ship until I return. Obey what orders are given ye and I'll see ya soon."

He turned and entered the elevator.
