Becker hadn't thrown a second thought to getting instructions, especially when they made sense. It was acknowledgement of authority that threw him off. He held himself at the bridge console for a moment and took a breath before looking at Dom. Mike wasn't confident with his promotion, and the reminder was distracting. "Yeah," he managed weakly before making his move for the bay. There was work to be done at least. On the way, Mike had made a b-line for the engine room and grabbed the tools he felt might help with opening a door. He was no expert, but if he threw enough stuff at the wall maybe the wall would fall down and let his captain and computer specialist back on board.
Hearing that called for a c-line, and Becker brought himself to med-bay. He reasoned that there was a little time before Dom linked Glory up with Horizon again, but that didn't stop him rushing, swiftly appearing short of breath at the doorway. He looked over Cole, then turned his gaze to Trina. "How you doing?" It seemed reasonable to believe she might not be content with current circumstances. |

Khei nodded and followed Ian back to the bridge. She, too, was checking everywhere for hidden compartments, mostly along wall panels. She'd only ever seen one or two ships before that had hidden compartments. Even then her job never had her actively looking for them. The hissing sound caught her attention as she turned and joined Ian. So that's how those things open. She cautiously looked in, careful not to put herself in a position to get her head blown off in the event someone down there was armed. |

Horizon Ian took out his knofe and used it as a pry bar. He nodded to Khei and answered her as he applied the edge to the steel deck. "The old fashioned way I guess." It had not come up all the way and prying seemed to be the best way to go. Before the plate cleared the deck, Ian rapped on the surface and put his faceplate to the floor so sound would transfer in the thinning air.\ "We're here to help. We're not the bad guys. Please dont shoot." He pulled back, fitted the blade again and pryed the plate up the rest of the way. He motioned for Khei to help move it out of the way. Once it was open he looked in, over the lip of the Smuggler's Pit with caution. "Hello." |

There was no reply from under the plate, which swung up into the air before locking into place at a right angle. Below them Khei and Ian could see two men in the darkness, covered in blood and sitting at uncomfortable angles in the cramped compartment. Only one of them was apparently conscious, and he sat there in silence for a few seconds, peering up at them like a pair of aliens. After a few seconds it became clear why. In one hand at his side, he held a half empty revolver which was now carefully aimed at Khei's head. The mans gaze quickly flicked from Khei to Ian as the Captain spoke, but said nothing in reply, just sat there waiting. When nothing happened, he looked back to Khei and said "Speak your piece." an edge of anger in his voice as he kept the weapon trained on the engineer. |

Khei blinked at the man, the hairs on her neck standing up at the sight of a weapon being pointed squarely at her head. She kept her hands where the man could see that she wasn't armed. Easy there pal. Me an' th' Cap'n here came aboard t' see if we could help. |

The sudden sound of a voice directed at her made Trina jump visibly. Turning in the same instant, it was clear in her eyes she'd been focused on something very deeply. There was worry etched on her features, and echoes of past failure that flitted away the moment she realized it was Mike checking in on her. Her breath, sharply inhaled at being startled, came out slowly. "I'm worried..." Her eyes went back to Cole and to the machines monitoring him. Without realizing it, her fingers began to toy the the bottom hem of the button up shirt she had on. The sleeves, though rolled up, as well as a good portion of the front, still bore a brilliant red reminder of what she'd been doing. Whether she realized the blood was still there was questionable with her focus so narrowed. "There used to be a clock in my clinic. Shepherd Matthews put it up. It was an old thing, had to keep it wound with a key. Family heirloom from Earth that Was. No matter how busy things got, how crazy, how loud people cried in pain, I could always hear it ticking." She laughed a little and looked down at herself, her vision blurring a little. "It always seemed loudest to me when a life hung in the balance, like death itself was in the room mocking my every effort." Taking a deep breath, she started to peel off the button up outer shirt, only to realize the blood had gone through to her tank top beneath. "The clock is ticking. And I don't have the means to save him." |

The Horizon The armed man at the bottom of the smugglers pit seemed less than convinced with Khei's response, but nonetheless lowered his weapon, only to raise it a second later and bring it to bear on Ian. "Likely story." he said with a tired voice, his eyes glancing down to his unconscious friend and then back to Ian, his head resting against one of the blood stained walls. "Found us drifting and reckoned you'd help yourselves eh?" the stranger asked, his voice once again bitter as his grip tightening on the pistol. The Glory It was hard to see, to be sure, but for anyone looking hard enough it was there. A large sensor contact, not moving on a direct course as it had originally appeared. Instead it travelled on a slightly curved trajectory, methodically spiraling in toward some unknown centre point as if they were searching for something. |

Khei's brow furrowed. Fear was being replaced with annoyance. First off this place was 'bout t' blow. Second one of yer pals done blown a hole right through our crew's belly 'fore runnin' off. We was 'bout t' leave when we learned there was maybe still folk here. Agitated, she looked to Ian before meeting the armed man's gaze again. You wanna spend yer last minutes here? Fine by me. She turned and walked to the doorway and waited there, arms crossed. I'll just wait here till ya give me orders Boss but it sure don't sound much to me like they want our help. |

Becker took steps into the room and looked down on Cole. He took in the scene more than he took in Trina's words once he'd set his gaze on the state of her patient. It was a rogue thought, to think of the young man joining the ship and finding himself heading toward a demise. Death was the downside to spacer life that Mike never rightly accepted, no matter how much he'd witnessed it.
Mike looked over to Trina and saw her fiddling with her top, a mist in her eyes. Without any thought occurring, Becker found his hand on her shoulder. When he noticed it, he realised he needed to comfort her. "You've done great Trin. Don't let anyone else tell you different, not even yourself." "We'll get him the care he needs." |

Horizon Ian just shook his head and looked back at the man in the pit. "Truth is, we were lookin for ya. Well, not you in particutular, but a passenger on board. Big tall fella, has a perchant for red in his clothes and such." He paused "We found you drifiin and boarded. Like my friend says, one a ours was shot before the Hwoon Dahn jumpped ship. Then your Self destruct was activated." He looked between the man and his wounded partner. "Your friend is in a bad way. We have a good Doc on board the Glory and the air here is gettin a might bad. Your choice, but I'm leavin in a few. You wanna bring him and come along?" |

The man watched Ian intently, letting out a low sigh at the mention of the 'big tall fella'. "Knew he was trouble, moment I saw him." he muttered under his breath as the Captain continued on. He nodded along, slowly lowering his pistol, inch by inch, second by second. At the mention of his 'friend', the man looked down to his side. "Tristan." he said quietly, his weapon now resting by his side. His eyes darted back up to Ian. "Quite a story there Captain, certainly like to continue it aboard that ships of yours." he said, holstering his pistol and making his way to his feet through a series of moans and sighs. He reached down, bringing the unconscious Tristan to his feet before turning and offering his hand to Ian. "Captain here is the one who knew your buddy, all the help it did him." |

Mike's words brought a faint, weak smile to Trina's lips. The reassuring hand on her shoulder, even given her appearance or despite it, the kind, encouraging words made her tremble a little. After a couple of seconds, she looked away from Cole to Mike. Some small part of her wanted him to stay, but she wasn't sure what the situation was elsewhere on board. Finally, she spotted the tools in Mike's hands and suddenly the other events that occurred in the same seconds of Cole being shot resurfaced in her mind. Her eyes went a little wide and her smile faded. "Ian and Khei? Are they alright? The other ship didn't self destruct with them on it?" |

Her laugh, his mothers, was sunshine. The clock struck! Cole felt a pulling and he was whisked upward. The fear and pain vanished and instead he was greeted with his old friend joy. He was flying!......Well hovering over his own body in the med bay. Well this is a pickle. Time was still moving but Cole could feel his way through. Seemed like time didn't matter to him anymore and instead his concern for the rest of his crew seemed of the utmost importance. As if the mere mentioning of them to himself he found himself floating over the captain and Khei opening a hatch with some disgruntled gentleman cramped inside. One of the men were mouthing off which in their position seemed entirely too rude for words. Oh wow what sweet euphoria this is. How can I even be here? Khei shot up with such irritation that Cole barely missed her head as he swayed above. Cole smiled and touched her shoulder. They no not what they do my friend. Friend he barely knew any of them but he felt as one with them here and now. The captain offered them respite and Cole thought that maybe they should take it. Wow this is strange. I hope that I remember this to tell the others. I wonder what they're really doing. Cole went on to explore more of the wreck. It's my dream after all. Then I'll check in on the rest. I have all the time in the world here. He flew off smiling ear to incorporeal ear. I'm really REALLY flying now! |

Horizon Ian took the man's hand and pulled him out of the pit. "We'd best get to the Glory. Introductions on the way, if you'd like." He set out fro tne bridge. "We found things gathered in the bay like someone was salvaging was they could and left it where it was. We closed the eyes of the dead along the way." He too out his PDA again. "Sorry for your loss." He thumbed the access of the PDA "Glory, this is yer capt'n. What's the progress on gettin us home? Also, have Trina standby for one more injuried. Khei and I are bringing home strays." |

"Yeah they're good." It was the only slice going around at the moment. The prospect of losing the captain and the many ramifications that snowballed from that were a very intimidating prospect. With five minutes past and no explosions, there was much in the way of relief. Becker wanted to stay but his presence began to encroach on more time sensitive matters. He eyed Trina, trying to get a read on her and trying to consider some final words which might aid. He cleared his throat, "Er." He took a breath and looked down to the tools clamped by his left hand. After a little squeeze of what he hoped was reassurance, he recovered his right hand. "I need to... knock a door down." He held up the tools as he spoke, trying to indicate the blunt instrument more than any other. "We'll get moving soon. Get past this whole thing." He nodded, then reluctantly made steps towards the door before switching to a more confident and hasty approach to the cargo bay. |

The man made his way up and out of the pit, helping his wounded companion up quickly after. "Thank you." he said quietly, his voice weak and his eyes showing it. "My name's Reylan, fi…" he began before stopping suddenly as the recent facts given to him by the newcomers finally hit home. "Former first mate of the Horizon." He sighed, shaking his head from side to side. "Captain's gonna be pissed." And with that he took the mans weight and began the trip down into the cargo bay with Khei and Ian. |

A Reaver's Nightmare
|
While monitoring the docking and awaiting Ian's return, Dom took a brief reprieve from the stress of the situation to allow some relief in as Trina noted that she'd stopped the bleeding but he knew even before she said it that they needed more help. The kid had a hole the size of a baseball in him and this ship was not a medical haven by any stretch. With nothing to do but wait he stared off into space... literally. Only his eyes weren't fixated on anything as the musty ancient memories were freed from the ship by a particular smell that reminded Dom he was home. "Is he gonna be alright?' The question came from the dash with its source only popping out from underneath the panel after smacking her elbow relatively hard off something or other. "Ow! Gosh dangit!" Her attempted cussing drew a smile from Dom who reached over to help her up. "Who Ian? Probably. I couldn't kill him. Believe me I tried." Though he said it as a joke, truth was he did and Ian him and now here they were on the Corso family heirloom on the same side. Taking his joke with a roll of the eyes, the youthful engineer took back to work grabbing a pair of cross-spanners and leaned over top of the panel, rolling on her feet as she did so and began humming a tune. Dom sat on an opposing edge of the panel and watched incorrigibly sweet and upbeat girl do her work even in some fairly somber times. "Doc's real good. Shouldn't be a problem huh." She continued maybe voicing the words simply to convince herself that the deep anxiety she felt was unnecessary. "Oh look! A new T2 model. Shiny." Her face lit up as she indicated out the window into the bright, sun filled Persephone skyline. Dom's gaze followed her finger up where indeed one of those T2's flew by in all it's shiny glory. Glory Looking away from the window where that Persephone mid-noon sunshine had faded back to the cold black of reality Dom noticed too that he was once again alone on the bridge as a younger version of Reese also faded. Standing up he walked over to a section of the dash and leaned over, his fingers first then his eyes finding the inscribed initials RF crudely into it. Upon feeling the inscription he almost broke down in tears. Almost. He was not going to let that young lad fade, not if he had any say in the matter. Finally deciding to abandon his post he turned away from the panel only to have a sparkle catch the corner of his eye. Looking back over the dash he could barely make it out but whatever it was it seemed to be getting closer. His perception skills proved to be spot on as the range censor began blaring. "Ta me duh." Dom hit the comm. to the infirmary. "Mr. Becker we got some action here. Might be a good idea to get everyone on board. We might be in need of a hasty escape an' well... that ain't exactly my specialty in this particular instance." As he leaned over the control panel again to get a better view his fingers once again found the initials, his heart sank. For Cole's sake. Edited by scoro, Feb 7 2013, 01:46 AM.
