Requiem for a Hawke
|
The gunslinger strode back into the wrecked bar, right as a skiff rushed past nearby. He moved straight for the bar, with little concern to the others nearby. A heavy thunk rang out as he placed down the now silent death dealer on the bartop, and disappeared behind it for a moment, rummaging around in the rubble and wreck. In a moment, he returned, and in his hand, a bottle of some amber rotgut, neither top nor bottom shelf. In one smooth motion, he cracked the top off it, sending the lid spinning across the room without a care. He took a long draw from it before the lid even it the floor, and came away with a high-pitched sigh and scrunched face. "Pfffffhaaaaaaaaaa..." He groaned, grabbing the LMG with his left arm, and slinging it over his shoulder like it may as well have been a bag of feathers. The imposingly tall man strode back around the bar, and straight past Biff, stepping over the bodies and people on the floor without a glance. He gave Biff no word or recognition as he passed. He did pause, however. Over the body of Joseph. He crouched immediately over the body of the man, boots resting just side the still-spreading pool of blood. Observing the figure, he pondered the man's still-warm, dead face for a moment, and a small downward turn came to the gunslinger's own lips. On instinct, he placed both the bottle and the LMG down on blood-free floor, and dug into his coat, fishing for something he wasn't quite sure of. In a smooth motion, one he had clearly done before, the hunched, crouched figure produced a platinum coin. He gazed at it curiously as he rolled it between his fingers, a kind of dexterity he didn't know he had. Tobias took the dead man's hand, pressing the coin gently into it, before folding the fingers closed over it. He then laid the arm on the man's chest, with the fist against his heart. "Spiritus tuus in aeternum vagari sidera liberum..." He spoke, with a gravel in his voice. He lingered a moment, as he took a long, hard look at his own hands, eyes widening as if they were covered in something... Terrible. He rose slowly, taking the drink and gun with him, and strode straight out past Jenna. He stood in the doorway, taking another quick draw from the bottle. Raising the fancy looking machine gun skyward, he spied an eye into the clip, making a note of how many rounds were left - the number surprised him as it seemed familiar, as if he already knew that was how many were in there. Letting the gun slump back onto his shoulder, it gave a loud clunk, as if hitting metal on metal, even through his thick duster. He glanced down, just behind himself, to see Jenna kneeling next to the door, and spoke back in the general direction of the others. "Already saved yer asses once, means y'each owe me one..." Turning ever so slightly, the amber-eyed killer made direct eye contact with Biff. "'Cept you." The tiniest smirk played across his scarred-to-hell face. "Move on yer own credit - I don't do favours fer people who owe me." Turning back, Hawke made his way out the back door with power in his step, a quick jog coming on as he made for some path out of that hellhole, before questions could be asked; before they could kick up a fuss. Before reality could set in on him. Blood dripped from his hands, covering the bottle he carried, the gun he wielded, his face... Blood only he could see. Spiritus tuus in aeternum vagari sidera liberum = "May your spirit ever roam free stars." In Latin. |

Jenna watched as Tobias left out the back door. As she moved to the door she watched looking right and left keeping her eyes out for anything or anyone heading towards the bar she quickly made her way back inside. “Everything is alright in the alley if we want to get out that way.” She called out the called back through the door as she came back inside. Once inside Jenna sat with her back against the wall watching the door in case anyone or anything came through it waiting for someone to tell her they were leaving. Now that all of the craziness was over she could feel herself start to shake and suddenly tears began to run down her face. After several seconds she could hear the law getting closer and closer. Jenna then got up and wiped her face on the back of her sleeve looking at Remy and then moving towards where Biff had gone. “Come on we need to get moving.” She said speaking to whoever was listening. Jenna stopped as Biff came back inside. “So any idea where we can go maybe some place where there are no people shooting at us?” Edited by browncoat _pinky, Jan 21 2013, 05:09 AM.

Remy wasn't paying attention to what was going on around him, he was just paying attention to making sure that he and his were okay. Remy had been paired with Jenna pretty much from the moment she had appeared to them, it wasn't a sexual thing, but it was a brotherly type of thing now. There was a lot of commotion around him, people were shouting, windows were being smashed, but Jenna was all he cared about at the moment. Biff asked them if they were okay, Remy nodded, and Jenna seemed to be fine, until she got up, she was a little stumbley, but it wasn't really a surprising thing, they had just 'survived' a mini blast. Things seemed to have died down a little bit. Remy started to take stock, where was everybody, and who was this gunslinger with them? The guy was a little... deranged to say the least. Then Remy looked down at Jenna, she had tears down her face, and Remy put his arm around her, and pulled her into him. |

Tobias had spoken his piece, made peace with Joseph, and then made for the back door. The signs of impending arrest were getting louder, in the sky and in the streets. With such chaos here, the scene an absolute battlefield, the Feds were likely going to be in a 'shoot first, ask later' mindframe. Biff, Jenna and Remy all prepared to move out and Saren remained silent, teary and strewn across the old man's unmoving body. Outside, the roar of engines issued overhead, and half a dozen thick ziplines fell down from the sky at the front of the bar, the kind soldiers would use to make an entrance to such a scene. The only place to run was the back door. Outside in the alley, heading away from the carnage, a huge billboard came into sight ahead of Tobias as he briskly moved along. It was a large electronic board that was advertising some new body care solutions from Phoenix Corp. The sign flickered for a moment, high up above the city, and then a message displayed on it. "TH. Nashfield Hotel. 3pm. Friends welcome." The message remained on the screen for only a second, perhaps even less, and then the advertisement returned. Long enough for Toby to read it, though. |

Looking at Saren Biff's heart broke. He barely knew her but they had all been through so much in such a short time. She was a battle buddy and she was shutting down. Biff went over to the booby-trapped merc and disarmed her. If the Feds got caught with his trap they would surely blame her or Cyrus. He returned the pin wrapped the spoon for safety and stowed the grenade in a pouch on his ruck. He walked over to Cyrus and Saren as the sirens got louder. "Be strong darlin'. They're going to take you both, but they will be able to help him. I understand what you're doing. We will see each other again." He placed a hand momentarily on her shoulder. Then he was gone. With a nod to the others that said I've chosen now you he walked out the back as the Feds closed in out front. His pursuit of Tobias completely took him over and he couldn't answer Jenna's question now if he wanted to. Besides he knew almost no one on this rock and had chosen this particular city for his depression binge for that very reason. Those men were there for me. Some of the grunts I recognize from Edgecombe's press conference after he blew up that apartment building. It's my fault these people have more problems then they started with, and I only meant to help them. Seeing Hawke was close enough to call he began to speak as the billboard over head flashed too fast for him to catch the whole message but he got the meat and potatoes of it. Nashfield Hotel. 3pm. Tobias would be stuck with him for a bit longer. Shooting a whisper towards the gunslinger Biff laid it all out for him. "Look Hawke, Havoc, whatever you want to be called now those asshats back there were after me. Now I realize that their mind might be changed after your dramatic entrance so if I'm to get answers and a little revenge I'm going to have to travel with you a spell. I've no right idea what my friends are going to do but if they choose to come with me you'll have to deal with that." He was riddled with guilt for bringing the very attention these people were looking to avoid from corrupt Feds like Edgecombe and his ilk. "They are good people and are good in a pinch which with our luck you'll soon see." Shooting a glance at the billboard again he spoke, "What do you think the Nashfield holds for us?" The message flicked on screen, and Tobias wondered, briefly, if he had been seeing things. It wouldn't surprise him, given the blood dripping from his hands... Biff, however, suddenly spoke. He spoke a lot, in a short amount of time. The only thing Tobias was thankful for was that Biff had confirmed the message was real. Immediately, and with a notable growl, the stupifyingly tall gunslinger turned on Biff as he spoke, not even bothering so much as to raise a hand to him. Instead, the audible click of a revolver hammer locking back could be heard. Already drawn and aimed straight at Biff's gut was Tobias' massive block-like six-shooter. "Did you read that message? Said T.H. That's... ME." He hesitated on the last word, but spoke it with a dark conviction. "You seem ta have it in your head that I'm any kinda interested in carryin' you OR yours. We ain't partners, we ain't brothers, we ain't anythin'! I did y'all a BIG favour - they got bigger fish to fry now, and I'm the one with the gills! Y'got a free pass to WALK AWAY, so WALK." He boomed, before dropping to a low, deep growl. "I've got half a mind to put a round in each and every one o' ya and move on - save me the pains in my ass down the line...." A tense, but brief moment passed, but the hammer clicked back slowly, the long revolver holstered in the blink of an eye. An internal conflict raged inside the man, but he gave Biff no quarter. Immediately, Tobias lashed out, grabbing Biff by the collar and pulling him close. "Stay the HELL away from me, or you'll wind up another body in the street, by their bullet... Or mine." Shoving the man he held back suddenly, Tobias stepped off in a hurry, toward the end of the alley. |

Remy looked around them, it was only them, where were the rest of the guys he had broken out with. Saren, Val, Jones? From where he was standing, Remy could see them, inside, Val was on the ground, riddled with holes, and Saren was there, kneeling over a downed Jones. Remy had been to busy protecting himself and Jenna that he hadn't even noticed the people who had helped him escape from jail. The guys who had pretty much stood up for him when he was attacked on the Space Station. Remy hardly knew them, but they had all been through so much. The conversation between Biff and the Psycho pretty much went in through one ear and out through the other. Remy just stood there, looking at the carnage that had been left behind. Why had they been attacked? One minute it was all good at the contacts place, the next, all hell had broken loose. Remy looked at them both "Lets go help Jones back inside, he needs help, this guy doesnt want us" Remy said simply. Edited by ribsource, Jan 23 2013, 03:54 AM.

As the exchange in the back alley took place, the group huddled not too far away from the bar's back door, the sound of footsteps and yelling came from the ruined building. "Hands where we can see them! Down on the floor! GET DOWN!" The Feds were already there, the sirens that echoed all around them an assurance that more were on the way. There was no turning around, and it would only be a matter of seconds before the back alley was checked. |

When the hand cannon came up Biff didn't even flinch his eyes lost all emotion except the red rage that curtains his very being. "You did US a favor!!? I saved you from several bullets of theirs that might not have killed you but your chwen* didn't even see them coming! Reckless ungrateful welp!" Let the man get himself killed. Our luck he'd get hurt and we'd be the one carrying him. The thought brought a smile back to Biff's face which he mentally wiped away. Sirens, Remy speaking and the voice on the loud speaker broke Biff's tirade and he turned paying the newcomer no more mind. Coming back to what remained of their broken group Biff finally registered Remy's statement. "It's too late guys we have to go. Cyrus will get the treatment he needs and Saren will be there to watch his back. We only have each other now." Biff looked at his two friends and said, "Somehow this is my fault and I have every intention of taking that bull by the tale and facing that situation but I have to at least make sure you two make it to someplace safe. After that we can all decide what path we're treading and what the next best strategy is for all of us but for now we have to move." With that he moved off into the darkness hoping they would come away to "safety" whatever that meant. *Dumbass |

That when it happened, voice behind them, authoritative voice. It was the Feds, and Remy couldnt be caught with them, it seemed that Remy was getting caught from one situation to another one, never resolving any. There were two choices, either get caught, or carry on running, and Remy knew instantly what he had to do. Taking one look back at Saren and Jones, Remy made peace with what he had to do, and that when he followed Biff. Remy had no idea where they were going, but Biff seemed to know, and that was good enough for him. Even though Biff had got him into this situation, by his own admission, Remy knew that the guy was shiny. |

Jenna looked back at the bar and then back towards Remy. She knew what she had to do. She looked back at where Biff had disappeared. She was conflicted she wanted to run but she wasn't going to leave without Remy. It was then that he looked towards where Biff had disappeared and made a move to leave. Jenna let out a sigh of relief. Right now she felt a lot safer knowing that Biff was around. She started running hopping that they could find someplace to hide and figure out what they were going to do from there. |

Their footfalls behind him gladdened his exhausted heart. He didn't know what direction the gunslinger went and he was so mad at him right now that he didn't care. I may give the man another chance someday, after all he did just crash an escape pod. Stressful situation, but you only point a gun a me once and live. Shaking the thought away Biff ran through scenarios. His anger at Tobias would only cloud his judgment and his friends were depending on him to get them out of this mess. The Feds were so close behind them and arresting Saren and Cyrus would only slow them down for a couple of minutes. Biff needed to throw them off the trail. Looking back to Remy and Jenna he stopped momentarily. "Remy, Jenna I need you two to keep going five more blocks or so in the direction we're already heading. I'm going to break off and lead them off our trail." With that he darted off the left hand path running full tilt three blocks till he found what he was looking for. These people want to accuse me of blowing things up, maybe it's time I start doing just that. Running past a parking lot by a night club he took the grenade from his ruck and without stopping he pulled the pin, released the spoon, and rolled the grenade under the nicest hovercar that he found. Smiling at the irony of Edgecombe’s framing Biff changed direction and headed to where he estimated Remy and Jenna would have made it too. You brought me to this Edgecombe. Hope you can handle the consequences. |

It was time to stop thinking and just to start doing. Remy had been in his head since the prison break, and now, it was just time to survive. He and Jenna started to follow Biff, he had been planetside longer, so knew more about the place than they would. Remy was carrying his stuff still as well as the big of mystery vials they had, but his adrenaline now was going into overtime, and probably stopping would make it worse, so he just went with it. Then Biff stopped and told them to carry on. Remy didn't want to break away from him, as he was kind of their guide, but Biff was going to try and draw the rest of the trouble away from them, so Remy didnt really have much of a problem with it. Remy looked at Jenna, nodded, then back at biff "Once we're there, we'll wait for you as long as we can, but if all else fails, we'll meet you back by the place where your camp was. Take care of yourself, see you on the otherside" Remy said thinking on his feet, and not really knowing anywhere else of note that they all knew Remy then looked at Jenna "Lets go" Remy then started running, it seemed like all he was doing at the moment. |

And almsot as quickly as they had (literally) fallen together, the group split once again - old friends now gone, taken or killed, and new friends far more aggressive than expected. Tobias Hawke, the most wanted man alive, disappeared in one direction. Remy, Jenna and Biff - the opposite. <<Remy, Jenna and Biff leave to "Looking for a Ride">> <<Tobias leaves to "Say It Isn't So">> |
