With that, Sylandra relaxed visibly. Scanning over the console to ensure that all gauges were shiny, and the ship was turning onto its predefined course, she unlocked the pilot seat and let it slide back slightly, giving her legs a chance to stretch out. As Eduardo entered the bridge, she smile up at him and gathered herself out of the seat. "All your's, boss. I'm goin' for coffee. Need any?" She left the bridge and made her way to the galley, noticing the new members milling around, getting settled in. She nodded to one as she pulled a mug out of the cupboard and filled it with hot, black liquid from the dispenser. She leaned back against the counter and took a sip. The joe felt good sliding down her throat, relieving those jitters that she knew were coming from the adrenaline overdose. |

Bottom of the ladder. Jonathan knew he was worth more, but as the newcomer he was to call everyone else sir. He'd pay his dues to change that, his years for the Vella family weren't for nothing, they brought experience to the table. He'd please them. Jon was sure to retrieve his guns. The pistol he holstered, the shotgun he gripped mid way with one hand, the safety flicked on for good measure. He then held his breath, taking stock of the ship until he was addressed and promised a tour. Raven wasn't hoe he remembered, was he perhaps mistaken, looking at a long lost twin or just a coincidental twin. His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he took her in, she on the other hand gave nothing away, staying professional or as professional a place like this allowed. The ship was taken until Jon found some semblance of haven in a bunk. He made a path for the first indicated on the left and prodded the door open to reveal nothing on the side of luxurious, but it would do. He tossed his shotgun on the bed. Turning, he could had little time to address his familiarity of Jenna, as she departed with a confirmation of her identity. In his presence instead were similar recruits, Meeka and Kara. "Did you two get the same welcome party I did?" If terrorism and evasion of half the citys police force was his duty, he wondered what theirs had amounted to. Edited by Becker, Dec 15 2012, 12:03 AM.

Kara glanced at the other new recruit, the one she hadn’t met down in the city, noting down all the details that she’d be taught to memorise; to add to the visual images she was recording too. It always seemed strange to her that the Alliance had never, apparently, tried to stop that. It would have left her blind and helpless but it never seemed right that they hadn’t. She stretched and then pulled off her jacket, folding it ever so carefully and neatly onto the bottom bunk. Standing up she looked at both of the others, her face dead pan. "Seemed that everywhere I went, people knew me."Her off hand comment was blank. "Met a jolly couple in the Diner, left them there." She shrugged, keeping her voice clipped and brusque "Our Hal, the one who came on board with me? He didn’t like leaving them alone.. A bit sloppy, I thought. I don’t care for unnecessary violence. It can waste time and resources." |

It had been a while, but Jenna could recall the night so long ago like it had been last night. Kicking her door closed behind her, she unslung her bow and ran her hand along the string before laying it carefully in its case, closing the lid and snapping it shut. As she stood from the case, she began to unstrap the quiver of arrows, noting almost absently she'd need to restock soon. The quiver was shortly followed by her guns and knives and then her clothing. Changing into a dark gray tank top and black fitted pants, she left the holstered knife on her ankle and pulled on her boots again. She was hung up mentally. Maybe a chat with Syl would sort that out, though it would probably end up happening well after the debrief and the boss talking to her. Leaving her room, she retraced her steps to the corridor junction, noted that the three new faces were already sharing stories. She shot Jonathan a solid look and a smirk before turning back to the galley. It didn't take long before she was crossing the threshold and spotted Syl. "Heyya Syl. Got interesting up here too huh?" Jen asked only because it had been Syl's voice instead of their usual pilot that had come across the intercom. |

Syl smiled as Jen walked in. "Heyya Syl. Got interesting up here too huh?" She nodded and a shadow crossed her face. "Yeah, Sawyer caught a bad case of lead poisoning. I got called off overwatch to throw my rather limited skills to keep 'er flyin'. Got a bit sticky, but " She took a moment to catch her breath. "Well, just another day, 'eh?" She turned and offered a mug to Jen with a wave. "How'd it go dirtside?" |

Shrugging as she the cup of coffee, Jenna leaned her hip against the counter near the coffee pot. "Was alright I guess. Little tame compared to my little audition." Sipping the dark liquid, she was clearly in deeper thought than usual. A grin played across her face as she looked to Syl. Of all the people on Vanguard, Syl was probably the person she'd opened up to most. "Wasn't til I got back that things got.... interesting." Here, she paused. She'd told Syl about that night for some reason. "Remember me telling you about the best night of my life?" Jenna's grin got bigger and turned a little wicked as she lifted her eyebrows slightly. |

Syl grinned. "Yes. Very intriguing, that was. You might save it for the new people as a lesson. " Seldom does Syl smile, much less giggle as she did then. The two of them had become quite close since meeting on the Vanguard. Now they seldom seemed apart. "I'll probably be on standby for flyin' for the foreseeable future. Tough. I like to get my hands dirty now and again." |

Jenna couldn't suppress the laugh. Syl had mixed up the stories by Jenna's guess. "No, Syl I meant that night with a certain someone back a few years ago." She let that statement sink in, the night resurfacing in her mind. The bar, seeing him sitting there, the trouble she'd started and they'd finished and the long night after that. "Seems we just picked up that old fling of mine." Turning her attention to her cup, Jenna took another long drink. "Guess the boys on board will be finding out why I never take any of them up on their offers to share a bed with them." Her smile stayed in place, even reaching her eyes as she looked at Syl over the edge of the cup. |

A darkness covers Syl's face as she turns sullen. "Ah, yes. I tend to forget about that one. Not you... Me. Seems I've lost too many of the men that I have let into my heart. " |

Jonathan acknowledged her words, and tilted his head slightly as he cast thought on her point. His head aligned itself properly again once he had structured a fair response. "Some people do this for work," he then looked down the halls of the ship knowing that the following applied to most aboard, "some do it for fun." Deleon's head the turned to Meeka, considering that there had been no indication as to where she lied. "I don't tend to care as long as the job is done," a pause, "and I'm not left on the floor." He knew which he held with more importance. Jonathan waited to see if there was any response to continue conversation, otherwise he would make way for the mess hall. |

Sylandra shook off the old memory and nudged Jenna. "Ok, so which one is he? I'll lay off on that one." She giggled again and took another sip from her mug. |

"Sometimes the two blend too much together for some people." Kara replied, finishing tucking in her bunk neatly. "Well, now." She turned and looked at Meeka. "I think we have the 'welcome aboard, do as I tell you and I won't hurt you too much' speech coming from the Captain." Wistfully, she cocked her head to one side. "Just wish I hadn't heard it too much already." Kara picked up her case and motioned to the others. "Lead the way." |

Harry offered Jenna a quick nod as they passed each other, another job out of the way for the time being. With a satisfied grin he turned to leave, instead finding himself turning into one of the FNGs. He hesitated, quickly looking the young woman up and down before giving her an approving smile. "Handsome, among other things." he replied with a grin, reaching out to shake her hand firmly. He narrowed his eyes on her, quickly glancing between her slung rifle then back to meet her gaze. "Another sniper." he stated simply as his hands returned to his sides. "Lets us hope we end on better terms." Harry added with a nod, smiling oddly as Meeka before taking a step to one side. "Now, if you'll excuse me...." he paused, looking over her shoulder toward one of the hatches ".....the day maybe over, but there's plenty left for the taking." He finished with a wink, before moving past her and out the door. He'd no interest in joining Jenna on the noob run through, having done it enough times himself by now. Harry quickly made his way ahead of them and into his own quarters. Sealing the door behind him, he silently removed his sidearm from its hidden holster, placing it to one side of his bed with a sigh. "Not bad at all." he replied with a wicked smile to no one in particular, then began removing his blood speckled clothing. A few minutes later, washed and appearing less psychopathic, Harry emerged from his quarters. He wore casual looking clothing, a light white shirt opened up, dark cotton trousers, but most importantly, he had his poker face on. From out of nowhere he appeared to produce a dark, aged ranchers hat. He placed it carefully on his head, adjusted its downward pitch forward a little, before continuing on into the galley. |

Eduardo's voice echoed throughout the ship as he keyed the intercom from the cockpit. "Godwin, get a bottle of the good stuff. Everyone, sit down in the mess in 5." That was all. That was the kind of formal public service announcement they were to expect on board the Vanguard. |

Sylandra jumped when Eduardo's announcement came over the intercom. She turned back to the locked cabinet and tapped in the security code. When the door popped open, she shuffled through the bottles in the rack and drew one out from the rearmost section, inspecting the seal and smiling. She took a plastic basket and filled it with champagne glasses. "Whee! We get the good stuff!" She stood up, bottle in one hand basket in the other, and saundered over to the group table. Setting the basket in the middle of the table, she took a seat to the right of the table head, leaving that chair open for Eduardo. |

Jenna took Syl's nudge with a grin and then laughed as the woman pulled champagne out. Turning to another cupboard, she dug through it til she found a dusty bottle. "Don't take this personal Syl, but I'll pass on that bubbly stuff for this." Turning back towards Syl, Jen lifted the bottle of whiskey and closed the cupboard only to open another one. From the second, she pulled a couple stacks of shot glasses and set everything on the table. Grabbing a chair, she spun it around so it was backwards against the table, sat herself down and draped her arms across the back to wait for the others. "Oh, and you'll know which one he is, seeing as he's the only 'he' in the new faces. Favors suits. And you should know better than to accuse me of letting someone get hold of my heart, Syl. Not a man yet has got that close." A smirk played across her face, though in the back of her mind, Jen recalled just how close she'd let herself get with this one. |

The crew quietly assembled in the mess and chatter died down amongst them, new faces and old, as Eduardo entered the room and shared a few quiet words with his first mate. He then turned to the rest of the crew, notably the newest blood amongst them. "Another day has gone by, my comrades, and another mission is complete. Amongst us we have fresh blood, those who were chosen specifically for their skillsets. Only time will tell where they will stand on board this ship," He gave a small, uncharacteristic smile, "but until a time when they can be more accurately judged, I suggest we all treat them as family. We are but one, after all." The large man started pouring a glass from the bottle Syl had brought forward. Ready to make the next part of his speech, Eduardo stopped mid word and cocked his head to the side. No one else had heard it, but the huge man pricked up his ears like a cat. Moments later, explosions. The ship had been hit - by what, no one could tell at this point. Clearly something explosive. The entire Vanguard shudder under the impact, chairs and glasses flying across the mess as the Captain was thrown against a wall, headfirst. The huge man went limp upon hitting the floor. A few crew mates started yelling out order, the first mate Fernandez taking point and delegating duties. Somewhere deeper in the ship, another small explosion rocked them from side to side, and an uneasy wind started to flood through the mess. They were losing oxygen. To be Continued. |
