The man listened carefully, intently, calmly. Well, he tried to do so calmly. The sweat on his forehead wasn't helping. Once Biff finished, though, the man was nodding his head violently, moving it as much as he could given the weight pushing down on him and the gleaming blade staring him in the face.

"No, no... of course. You're things, they're all in the cupboard there." He eyed a large wardrobe opposite the bed, double doors closed. The man muttered something then, wincing. It wasn't English, nor Chinese, and Biff hadn't heard the language before.

"I don't know who... we never really.... I didn't ask who was in charge. 'twas just the money we wanted, man. I swear. I don't know..." He was getting desperate, breathing heavily.

Biff was shocked at how easy this was going. The adrenaline pumping though him dulled all but his worst pain. "That cupboard over there? Well that's about shiny." Biff eased his way off the troubled man and knife raised took the other hand and placed one finger to his lips. "Shhh"

Biff opened the cupboard and slung his beloved Suzanne onto his back. He grinned as he noticed the nonfunctioning cortex device and he pocketed that. Biff's gaze never left the soiled man who seemed to be gaining his composure. "I get needing the money my friend. With my gear here seemingly all present and accounted for I rightly don't give a good gorram about the who I reckon." Biff thought it over, hell there's all manor of man and woman out the in the deep black would like to see me in the dirt. Staring right into the other mans eyes Biff spoke his last peice to him,"This went both our ways today. I got my gear, you haven't grown an extra smile. You let me walk out of here and I'll find a way off this rock and your employer will be none the wiser."

The man, presumably Edgecombe, remained where he was and watched Biff collect his things and make his exit. There was no sound from his mouth, nor any movement from the living area where the four other men were still out cold. The hall beyond room 713 was deserted as ever and there was no sign that anyone was planning on following Biff. It was done.

Back out in the light of day Biff shook off the confines of the filthy atmoshere of the apartment building. He was grinning ear to ear. Finding his gear whenever he "misplaced" them always did that to him.

I need to get out of this city and just sit in the stillness of nature.

A bigger smile broke out on his face as he spoke to no one in particular,"But first I'll get some breakfast. Whata night ol' boy."

"And I hope you enjoy it, Calhoon." The voice came from beside him as Biff passed by the elevators on the ground floor again. A lone man was standing there in a suit and a rustic cowboy hat. His voice was casual, friendly, and he gave a small smile with the remark as the elevator binged open. He stepped in, before anything else could be said, and hit a button. The doors closed just as he produced a large, silenced handgun from his jacket. Still smiling. And then the doors were sealed, the elevator began to ascend, and Biff was left standing in the lobby alone and confused.

Outside the streets were bustling with activity, dozens of potential eateries within walking distance as the markets came to life around the ports district.

Biff knelt down on the side of the road to wrap Suzanne up in her cover. He then properly attached her to his pack. As he got up and began to move again he gave a moments thought to the man in the hat who seemed nice enough if a little cryptic. I'll put money on those poor fools being dead by now.

Biff knew that he would never be able to pull all these threads together and focus on what would be next for him if he didn't get a little recovery on. "Glad I was in this neighborhood", he said as he looked up at a local diner's sign. He pushed the door open thinking, After I eat I have to find me a way to make some gorram money and get out of here.

The cheery face of a young lady welcomed him, offering him a seat at one of the nearby booths that lined the front windows of the small diner. The place was rather quiet, with only a few regulars sitting at the counter finishing mugs of coffee or lighting up a cigarette. A large screen console was mounted on the far wall, broadcasting local news.

"And what can I get you this morning?" The young waitress didn't seem bothered in the slightest by Biff's appearance, nor the obvious 'equipment' strapped to his back.

"Miss I will have two eggs and a double order of whatever breakfast meat you happen to surprise me with," Biff smiled at her as best he could. starting to calm down brought the pain back. He looked out the window at the street that was just starting to come into full swing. I wonder what this new day will bring my way?

Biff closed his eyes and found his focus. One breath, in and out, he focused on only his breathing for several minutes untill he found the calm mental awearness he was looking for. He opened his eyes again and watched the passerbys again. He took note of the lazy morning conversations from the regulars in the diner. Most importantly he took note that he felt hopefull again. The depression had retreated to that dark place in his soul. What a beautiful morning it is. The skies the limit. I'm changing my luck today! That smile snuck it's way back to his face as he sat in relative peace.

The young lass nodded with a smile, recording the order and heading back to the counter. The large screen on the wall, which was cycling through local news, cut to a breaking news report and the small diner fell quiet as the majority of patrons turned their attention to it.

On the screen, Biff saw the apartment building he'd only recently left. By the front door were multiple police vehicles and the young lady on screen was commentating on an apparent murder that had been reported earlier that morning. Local police officers were walking and out the front door of the building.

In the background, Biff could see two familiar characters. The manager of the apartment building and the man in the wide brimmed hat, both talking by the front door. The focus wasn't on them, but Calhoon could tell what kind of conversation they were having. Before he could considering the implications further, the reporter had moved towards the pair and the man in the hat had stepped forward to meet her.

"Leading the investigation is Lieutenant Adrian Edgecombe." She turned to the man. "Lieutenant, is there any indication that this incident has been gang related, like the recent incidents on Persephone?" The man smiled and opened his mouth to respond. He was cut off, though, as a booming explosion blasted the building apart.

The TV report cut off immediately as the cameraman was knocked to the ground, but the echoing explosion could still be heard. Outside the diner people were yelling and pointing as a plume of smoke began to rise a few blocks over.

Biff listened as the strange man the cowboy hat suntered up to the reporter.

Biff's eyes widened, Edgecombe. So the strangly man in the lobby I passed as I left was an Edgecombe or THE Edgecombe. A morbid thought went through his head. What if the man on the bed was also an Edgecombe. Biff shuttered. Fratracide didn't sit to well in Biff's craw. Family meant too much to him mostly because it was the one thing he missed.

The explosion sent Biff under his table. He looked out the window and saw that old familiar plum of an expertly done demo job. Damn my hangover and damn my stomach! A vein in Biff's forehead was the only outside sign of his anger. I should've paid more attention to that strange bei bi shiou ren and I should've just left town instead of stoping here. Biff glanced around more trying to see if they were even cooking his food with the spectacle about. This is all I need. Getting involved with a gorram corrupt Fed. Why am I the only one I know who takes pride in their work anymore.

Biff began to secure his pack and gather what little he had out. He pulled out his side arm and filled the empty magazine up and put a spare mag from his bag in his pocket he then replaced his side arm back into his leg holster. This town just got a little too busy for my liking.

Biff looked at the waitress who was watching the smoke. "Thanks darlin', but this is more action then my tender sensabilities can handle." He put his ruck on his back dropped a couple credits on the table for a tip gave the waitress a nod and out the door he went.

The waitress hardly noticed him leaving and Biff quickly merged into the busy foot traffic outside. He was in the middle of the city, the exploded building only a block or two away. There were plenty of vehicles offering transport, taxis and buses and shuttles off planet. The docks weren't too far away, either.

Sirens echoed in the morning air.

Even after the last couple of days festivities and how his body felt Biff walked toward the docks. When he got there he would ask around about ships leaving and possible work. Distancing himself from this Edgecombe character was probably in both their best interests. Fed crooks and Biff have never mixed well.

Mid morning the docks were bustling and there were such a crowd that it would be easy to disappear at a moments notice should the need arise. Problem was someone could sneak up on you if need be.

Biff approached an old mechanic picking up tools he dropped from his bag. Biff ran over best he could and helped the old man grab his remaining tools. When the old man straightened up Biff asked, "Excuse me sir but do you know where I can find a ship captain that's gettin' off this rock? I need the work and I'm restless to be in the black again."

"Oh, thanks stranger." The old man was down on one knee, carefully placing the tools he had into his work bag. He was dressed in old grey overalls, a matching hat on his head and a fierce mustache to boot. He stared up at Biff, listening to the request.

"Docks aren't a hard place t' find a Captain. S'long as you've got coin to pay. As far as work goes..." He looked biff up and down, clearly trying to hide judgement, "... it would depend on what you've got to offer." He reach forward, taking a large wrench from Biff as it was handed to him.

"Not a man of engineering by any chance?" He smiled.

On the opposite side of the street, a teenage boy who'd been kicking a ball along through the crowd had stopped and was staring at the two men exchange words. The old mechanic didn't seem to notice.

Biff smiled at the mans scrutiny. He knew what he must look like. "I can learn to do anything as long as I have some hands on time with an experienced teacher." Biff shook his head solemnly. "Truth be told I do more of the destroying end of a job. Heh heh. Have anything in mind? I never know what I can do till I try."

Biff noticed the boy stop out of the corner of his eye and wondered if he really looked worse then he thought. God knows he was too used to looking like he did this morning.

"That so, eh?" The old man smiled weakly, and there was suddenly something odd about it. Like the expression was forced. He pulled the last few items from the ground into his bag, standing back up straight, scratching at his stubbly chin.

"I might just have someone who could give you work, friend. Do you mind...?" He gestured to the side of the road, outside a small grocer. There was a console uplink there and the man clearly needed to call his friend about it. "Won't take but a minute." He started towards the console, bag held firmly in one hand.

The young boy who had been watching them had now disappeared into the passing crowd.

Biff was nervous about the change in the old man's demeanor. It wasn't a big change but it was a change. Biff noted the boy run off and the hair on the back of his neck stood up. This paranoia wasn't healthy but it had kept him alive this long. Biff watched as the old man walked away. I need the money to move on so don't ruin this possible opportunity with over thinking. Get some money and disappear Biff. You got this.

Shifting his weight to the other leg Biff rested his right hand on his side arm as if he was just as relaxed as could be."Thank you kindly sir. I sure could use the help."

Everything happened at once.

As if the morning hadn't already been exciting enough - with Federal agents, gunrunning thugs and explosions - the loud *whistle-boom* of a vessel breaking atmo right over the docks district turned everyones head up. It wasn't unusual for ships to come and go. But at that speed? Something was happening.

A small vessel, identified as a shuttle of sorts as it got closer, came riveting down from the sky, hardly slowing down. Behind it, dozens of white chutes had been deployed, trailing in the wind as it fell. A crash landing. Right in the heart of the city.

A loud crash echoed through the streets moments after the small vessel disappeared behind the nearby cityscape. The ground shook. People started yelling and running - some tried to continue about their business, while others tried desperately to get away from the crash site that was, by Biff's estimates, only a few blocks away. A small minority started running towards the site, hoping for a gory scoop.

The old man watched the event and then continued towards the console, shaking his head and muttering something along the lines of "What a morning..." He reached the console and started tapping in his ID number as Biff lingered nearby. The young boy was nowhere to be seen.

In the next few moments, idling where he was, Biff saw two things. One, across the street, a shop window was glowing with flashy console screens. It had been the electronics store the young boy had been standing outside. On those screens, dozens of them showing the same image, was a familiar face. Biffs face. A few seconds later the screens switched back to the scene he had seen earlier, with the handsome Agent Edgecombe being interviewed by a reporter. The screens were out of earshot with all the other commotion nearby, but Biff could assume what was being said.

He glanced back at the old mechanic at the console just in time to see him staring at Biff with a nervous look in his eyes, lips moving quickly as he spoke to the person on the other end. What he was saying was also out of range for Biff, with all the shouting and running crowds nearby, but the flashy icon that said <<Police>> at the top of the screen was hard to miss.

" Can't blame ya old man." Biff muttered to himself. Times are tough and fast money talks. Biff turned tail and trotted off at a fast walk towards the crash site. Fast money talks. There might be something left of value. Plus if there's survivors then they share the kinship of having a ridiculous morning from hell. Probably a crazy night as well.

Biff also knew that the law would be converging on the site and would be particularly busy. It might be shiny to hide in plain site. Biff could hear the sirens coming and knew that soon the wreck would be swarming with Feds. Wonder if my new friend Edgecombe will show up. He seems to like the theatrics of his corrupt job.

The old man had caught sight of Biff departing, knowing full well that he had been caught out. First he looked afraid, but then, realising that Biff was simply moving away, the old man just hung his head and disconnected the call. Moments later, Biff was gone.

The crowd, still moving this way and that, and still as dense as any other morning, was like a current that took Biff towards the crash site with ease. He rounded a final corner to see the smoke rising in the distance. The vehicle, indeed a shuttle, had touched down directly in the middle of a wide intersection. People were crowding around as small pops signaled explosions from the ships electronics.

No one who looked like they belonged to the ship could be seen. Likewise, no enforcement was on the scene. Not yet.

Biff dropped his bag by the shuttle door. Looking over the wreck he was amazed at lack of damage considering the shuttle fell from the black. Good to know these things really can survive this kind of crash. Now to see if the crew can. The door only cracked open and stopped. Biff couldn't push it any further.

Looking around at the crowd Biff remembered why he disliked humanity. Am I the only one concerned that there might be people in there. Biff walked over to a vendors stall and kicked his awning down. "Sorry I'll try not to break em,"he said to the vendor as he picked the two poles up. Clearing the crowd once again Biff put the two poles into the door opening and began again to try to get the door open.
