Pieces were falling into place, Deleon just had to hope that they fit together. A repositioning from the sniper gave him a window of safety, and the second approach from the Vanguard was his only window for escape. Whatever happened, and whoever that vehicle belonged to, he had to get himself on that ship.

He adjusted himself into a crouched position while still in cover, timed up a run, then made his attempt to board the ship. If god loved him he'd find an open door to go through, in the more likely alternatively that god didn't exist he's have to latch onto that boat for dear life.

Then he'd improvise.

"Not lost." muttered Harry as he stepped over the dead agent and headed for the door. "Misplaced." he then added after a moments pause at the dinerts door. Looking out, who glanced either way before strolling out into the street like he owned the place. Lost but not forgotten he thought with a smile. No choice but to get high.

Harry quietly made his way down a nearby alley, stopping just below a ladder which hung from the odd framework of a building which looked like it should have collapsed long ago. Catching sight of his shoes he made a face, business would be closed for today. Looking back up he sighed to himself and began the silent climb up to the roof.

All across the city people came running out of their buildings, some midway through supper and others already in bed for an early start the next day. All eyes, it would seem, were on the phenomenal sight above the small city - a starship dogfight. The Vanguard, in all her outlandish glory, was far larger and bulkier than the small fighters that had been scrambled to take her down, but was still holding her own. Explosions echoed across the night sky as the three ships tumbled amongst one another, directly above a small apartment building.

Jon was pinned down and awaiting assistance, his escape route blocked either by flying jets or by snipers. To his dismay, as one of the small police jets roared overhead, shaking the foundations of the building, a second small red dot appeared just beside him on the metal grating. Another bullet pinged by, just missing his ever so slightly exposed foot. Two high calibre rifles, both clearly calibrated and manned by an expert. The clock was almost at twelve.

The man prepped for a jump, and whoever was flying the huge transport ship above clearly saw that he was doing so. A rear hatch, the kind cargo would usually be hauled in and out of, started to open. Deleon could only see the hatch from the slither of light that escaped it. the ship, still struggling for dominance in the sky, was definitely lowering. His time had come.

Across the city, a few blocks over, the loud *ping* echoed through the thirteenth floor of the office building, doors opening to reveal an empty corridor before Meeka and Jenna. Directions had already come down from the Vanguard during their elevator ride - the room they'd been directed to was only a short way down the hall. From there, hopefully, they'd have a clear shot of their mark... now marks.

Harry hauled himself up onto the roof of the diner to find Kara standing alone and back to him, staring up at the ensuing spaceship acrobats. In his years on board the Vanguard, this was the first time Handsome had seen such a display. Whether that was a good thing or bad wasn't yet clear.

"It surely is one hell of a light show, isn't it?" Kara remarked, apparantly to the open air. Her memory was pinning down ship characteristics, and just how well it was doing in comparison to what looked like a modified Bylong heavy hauler.

She could see shapes and figures assembling on nearby buildings. She could hear bitching and swearing from across the street as a mobile media crew set up and tried to capture the onging battle. Her cortex access was pinging softly over and over as the events started spreading everywhere.

[It is. Be aware.]
The text rolled across her eyes.

The single comment was enough for Kara to place the noises she'd heard in the background. It had been a long time since she'd operated but the training came back. "I know." she whispered.

She started to tense, and then more noise assailed her as the roof door opened and children rushed out, followed by some adults. They were on the other side of the roof entrance, thankfully, and she was in its shadow. They were in a party atmsophere from the sound of it, the children all exclaiming at the noise and light in the dark sky. A clinking and clattering noise seemed to indicate that the adults had brought their own bar with them as well. Kara moved to one side, hoping they'd be content where they were.

Jenna was out of the elevator before the ping finished, spot checking the direction she needed to head for the room given and went left at a run. She glanced at each room marker until finally, just a short distance from the elevators, they reached it. "323, this is our stop."

The door was open and swung wide by a determined and careless shove. She paused just inside long enough to kill the lights and then was moving again, pulling one of her hand guns smoothly from its holster. Running across the room, it was easy to spot the center of attention. Jenna stopped short and lifted her gun, fired once and watched as the window shattered and rained down both inside the room and outside. With long, strong strides, she crossed the last few feet to the window.

While there was light enough to see the room on which most of the action was happening, most coming from the dog fight above, Jenna pulled her glasses, the dark tint masking their real function. Sliding a small switch, the view before her shifted into varied shades of green and black and she started scanning the rooftops.

"We've got one pinned on that roof and a bottleneck of unfriendlies coming through the door on the roof." Jenna's attention turned to Meeka then nodded towards the roof on which she'd spotted the man they were there to cover. The face was all too familiar, but the job came first. "Start with the bottleneck. I got a hunch they brought their own long guns to the party. I'll point them out when I find them."

Returning to her rooftop scan, Jenna slid her gun home and pulled her bow. Silence wasn't exactly needed, but her hand gun wouldn't do for a long shot to the roof on which Deleon was pinned. Setting an arrow, she drew and fired at the group on the roof and watched for signs of sniper fire from the surrounding roofs.

With a final heave, Harry found himself at the top of the ladder, looking out across the roof tops. Above him the Vanguard engaged the Alliance ships with a ferocity that only Eduardo could have managed. Fighting a grin, he looked down and caught sight of Kara who was equally as enthralled. She said something aloud, apparently to herself, he didn't bother to respond. Harry moved away from the ladder and off toward the other side of the building.

In the distance a group of people made their way out onto the rooftop, brought up by the display overhead. Following Kara's suit, Harry tried his best to disappear into the shadows, a skill he'd never quite been able to master. No point in drawing attention to themselves though. Moving quietly up behind the girl, he cleared his throat from a distance and waited.

"What? Didn't I leave enough money to pay for the bar repairs?" Kara quipped as she turned to face the man, ever so briefly as she turned again to view something she had only ever seen on the cortex box at home, in safe houses and in the prison.

"Do I assume that you tracked me down the alleys and up the ladders for something more than a mere proposition." Her voice was calm and cold. "Or do you have something more interesting in mind?" This time her voice warmed, almost purring as she put a mischevious smile on the face she put on as she turned her head again. "We could always borrow a bottle or two from our noisy neighbors and find somewhere...perhaps more comfortable than a dirty rooftop?" She had already decided that this man was playing some side. But which? He hadn't made an approach earlier so was he just some low life criminal, instead of...what? she wondered yet again. The man hardly seemed like the reason she'd been chasing half way across the city now. Maybe she was getting far too paranoid.

But then. He didn't seem awed. Or particulary surprised by the overhead display, even if did seem to derive some odd satisfaction from it.

"So what do you say?"

Jenna, after a quick survey of the distant rooftop, was quickly able to conclude a few things. Some surprised her, others... not so much.

The two riflemen positioned in other buildings nearby were easy to spot - she and her new rookie would have quick, easy shots at them. The man on the roof, who had been staying low and out of sight the whole time, now looked as if he was preparing for some wild escape as the Vanguard - the hulking, familiar sight in the sky - worked her way down lower, towards him.

The door on the rooftop to the apartments was now physically vibrating as the authorities on the opposite started to smash it down. The man on the rooftop, in clear view of Jenna and Meeka, was out of time. They were his only ticket out. The authorities barging up the stairwell towards Jon smashed through the door just as Jenna's first arrow fired, landing straight in the chest of the first man to arrive on the rooftop. The rest of them, armed and armoured, went diving for cover.

The explosion from another missile issued across the sky, a bright flash illuminating the streets below as the Vanguard took a hit. The flash revealed, even if only for a moment, where Harry and Kara were standing. It didn't matter, though, as all eyes in the city were facing upwards.

As the men coming through the door started to scatter after her arrow landed, Jenna looked upwards briefly. Things were definitely getting interesting. Her attention returned to the roof tops and point first to one and then to the other for Meeka. "Two snipers. We need them gone so pickup isn't interrupted."

Pulling another arrow, she drew back and looked back to the roof. For a split second, she checked on Jonathan. The only thought that crossed her mind in regards to him in the current moment was that his presence was going to make life on Vanguard a little more interesting than it had been. Her eyes moved back to the authorities. They were now finding and trying to make use of what little cover there was on the roof. There wasn't nearly enough.

Loosing her shot, Jenna was pulling another arrow and drawing again. While the bow wasn't as fast a shot as a gun, she made good speed with her shots and was sending arrows down at a quick and steady pace. Aside from the killing shots, she was certain the authorities would be a lot more leery about sticking their heads up with a rain of arrows clearly intended to hit them.

Harry shuffled his hands silently in his pockets as Kara spoke, eyes darting from the flashes overhead back to the girl. Cute alright, didn't seem to register who he was just yet but that didn't seem to phase her much. He took a step closer toward her with a devilish grin. "Fine plan." he stated simply, taking another step forward as an explosion overhead lit the rooftops temporarily. "Was growing tired of this whole cat and mouse charade anyway." he said with a sigh, shrugging his hands out his pockets.

Placing a finger against his ear for clarity he asked "ETA?" to anyone who was still listening, then returned his attention to Kara with a warm smile. Taking a step to one side, he began strolling slowly in a circle around the woman, sidearm in hand without any seeming intention to use it. "Ms. Leaford, enjoying the show?" he asked with a muted chuckle, indicating the battling ships above with his pistol. He paused as he made his way to her side, leaning backwards and craning his neck a little, before taking another step forward with a satisfied smile.

Turning to face her, pistol in hand, he bowed his head slightly, raising it back up and offering her a wink. "My name, among others, is Harry."

Turning to face her, pistol in hand, he bowed his head slightly, raising it back up and offering her a wink. "My name, among others, is Harry."
" A fair greeting to thee Hal!" Kara intoned following it with a theatrical toss of her hair. "Or in modern parlance. Put the sodding gun away. Enough problems here without making it too obvious." She nodded over to the other roof. "Camera crew over there. They'll be panning over here soon as they hear the partying on over here. Local interest story, no doubt."

As she was talking a brief message hit her. [Amber Alert initiated. Local forces activated. If you cannot extract within 20 minutes use Epsilon-twelve protocal. Signal from 20 metres indicate direct vid feed, all other camera feeds disengaged; local uploads to cortex continuing. Unable to block].

"Bugger." was about all she could say to that, especially in front of her new playmate. She didn't know exactly what and who he was but the lack of feedback probably meant that he was 'safe' so far. And would remain so if they extracted. "I do take it that you know whats going on? Because if you do, we need to get out of here before the heavies make it here! So how do we do it? Barnswallow or bouce pack?"

Jenna's projectiles took down another two of the security officers perusing Jon, pinning down many others, by the time Deleon decided to make a run for it. A loud *boom* echoed across the city blocks as Meeka took aim and fired, humming a quiet tune to herself as she calmly put a high caliber round through the forehead of the first sniper. the second, in shock, had taken cover. Jon was free, for the time being.

No longer too high above the scene, the Vanguard started to sway slowly side to side as the large cargo bay door in its rear began to open. Gunfire issued from it the moment the gap was big enough. Take by surprise, with the Vanguards crew above them and Jenna's fire from the side, the remaining officers started to flee back into the building. Jon made his move.

Jon ran, bullets still flying around him, and launched himself from the top of the apartment building - the last thing he'd considered to have been doing that night - and towards the opening cargo bay door and half a dozen brigands he had never met before. The man had started his descent moment before a muscular arm shot out and grabbed hold of his, catching him in midair. Gunfire continued to wrack the rooftop and the ship itself as Jon was pulled aboard by his soon-to-be Captain.

A voice simultaneously popped into the ears of Harry and Jenna as the ship started to pull away from the building in the distance.

"Standby. Tap your locators. We're coming in for a firey dustoff." It was Natasha again. They were going home.

"Bout gorram time..." Jenna muttered. She paused her firing long enough to tap the device in her ear and then was pulling another arrow. Her eyes scanned the rooftop from which Deleon had just jumped. The arrow rested against the string, but she didn't draw back just yet. Unless one of the officers on the roof was stupid enough to stick their head out into view, she wasn't about to waste the energy.

Her head tilted to one side, towards Meeka. "That's our ride. Be ready to make a hasty exit." The girl beside her was a good shot, even with the singing. While Jenna found the singing a bit... unnecessary... she chalked it up to being a quirk. And she herself had her fair share of quirks, there was no denying that. So long as the new girl didn't bring down destruction on the ship, at least while Jenna was on board, Jenna figured she could overlook the quirk.

Another officer, the last to find himself still in the open, was quickly downed by Meeka as the Vanguard launched itself up into the sky and made a beeline towards the large office building that the two women were in. They were only a third of the way up, on the thirteenth floor, and the ship started to lower down to their height, the cargo bay door opening slowly.

"Coming up on next stop. All boarding for Black, hop it!" The voice was that of Sylandra, coming through the earpieces Harry and Jen were equipped with. Harry and Kara were on the opposite side of the street, well in sight, and the final stop before the great hulking pirate ship made her escape.

On the rooftop opposite, Kara stood transfixed by the sight of the Vanguard as she lowered herself down the office block.

"Tain Xiode" Kara muttered as she saw the ship descend, its thrusters distorting the glass in the tower block as it did so. She gathered herself back into her normal demenour. "So that's the Vanguard, eh?" Then she realised. "You DO want to do a barnswallow! But she can't get any lower than this!" Kara looked around. Her rooftop matched the local apartment blocks and there was no real way whoever was piloting the ship could get any lower. They'd have to jump up and out.

After being pulled up into the ship, Jon rolled onto the deck and lay on his back. There were several thoughts in his head, and prominent was a certainty that he'd seen an arrow embed itself in a pursuer. There was little time for that though. He pulled the edges of his jacket over his front to meet and be fastened again before sitting up in a great attempt at nonchalance. Finally he would look over to the man who had saved and give sincere words in his polished core accent. "Thank you."

He rose from the floor and braced himself against a wall as the ship began to maneuver in a way that was no too favourable for its passengers. "The Vanguard I take it?" If not things were still all to interesting for a days work. Deleon managed to set eyes on his guns which had scattered across the floor after making the jump ahead of him.

Harry stifled a smile and looked sideways toward his raised gun, before glancing back to Kara and offering her a shrug. "Tonight at nine, man waves gun on rooftop!" he declared to the battle overhead, followed by a hearty laugh. A message buzzed in his ear, distracting him for a moment. Turning away, he spoke quietly into the distance."Bout time, was almost gonna book us a room."

The Vanguard dropped suddenly from the sky, dipping low and hugging a building a few blocks over. As he watched, Harry dipped a hand into his coat pocket, twisting at a small, unseen device, before looking over to Kara. "You expect it to be taller?" he asked with a grin as the whine of thrusters in the distance grew. He quickly glanced back toward the hovering ship and then looked to Kara with a nod. "Might be a tight squeeze next stop." he said to both her and his listening comrades as he holstered his sidearm.

Kara couldn't help it and burst out laughing too as the thought of what they were about to do filled her with a crazy wild feeling that broke through her usual quips and cracks. "All righty then, Our Hal. Lets join hands and head into the wild blue yonder!"

The hulking Vanguard swept across the city sky, pulling a sharp one-eighty degree turn just before making impact with the apartment building. The rear end of the beast came to a halt just meters out from the window Meeka and Jenna had taken up residence by. The cargo bay ramp was down, the doors open, the bay filled with a number of familiar faces.

"Come now, we're going home." The shout came across the large gap from Eduardo. Beside him, the man looking somewhat out of place, stood Jon Delleon. The rest of the crew were repositioning, ready for the next assault

Across the dark streets, Harry and Kara saw the ship come in and take up a position beside the office building. From the brightly light cockpit windows, the pair could see a small figure plastered up against the glass, a tiny man waving manically down at them. Harry recognised him immediately as the near-insane Dia, their blades expert.

They were almost home.

Jenna looked up into the ship, spotting familiar faces and a smile quirked across her face. She waived Meeka ahead of her, eyes shifting to the rooftop on which Deleon had been pinned one last time before moving back to the ship. Sliding the bow across her body to secure it, she pulled off the shades, shutting down the night vision and tucked them into a pocket.

For a brief second, she locked eyes with a face that was beyond the boss. She lifted her eyebrows at him and then was moving to make the jump. As she landed, the boss helping secure the landing she looked him dead in the eyes. "You certainly know how to keep things interesting around here, boss..."

As she spoke, her eyes slid again to Deleon and then back to the boss. He'd ask about it, probably once they'd cleared atmo. For now, she pulled her shades again, slid them into place, flicked on night vision, prepped her bow and joined her crew mates at the cargo entrance, not affording Jon another look. For now...
