The Diner

Kara's body flew over the counter. The agent on the floor had composed himself, noted the man standing over him and, more importantly, the gun in Harry's hand. He'd produced his firearm moments before Kara came crashing down on him. The gun went flying as the two became a huge heap on the floor, the agent yelling and struggling to get free.

Outside, as Jenna and Meeka finally made contact, more sirens echoed in the distance as they took in their surroundings. The tallest building nearby looked like some kind of office block, probably 20 stories high. Lights were still on, dotted around the building, though a security guard sat at his desk in the lobby, right in front of the elevators.

"You'll need at least 13 floors, Jen." This time it wasn't her boss, but Natasha, answering a question Jenna had yet to ask.

The Apartments

Despite Jon's expectations, the squad in the building had actually dealt with the bomb scanning. As he stood there, thinking and listening to the odd silence that had fallen over the huge stairwell, a slight whispering and then a loud *beep* echoed from below. The heavy footfalls of combat boots started up again - they'd called the bluff.

One more floor up, as he expected, Jon found the emergency exit to the roof - a thick padlock hanging from a chain on the handle.

Jonathan tested the door with a firm hand before resorting to the obvious solution. The chain was hardly worthy of a shotgun blast and so Deleon reached into the inside pocket of his jacket to claim his pistol. He flattened himself against the wall, avoiding the line of fore and reducing the chance of ricochets and shrapnel. The tip of his gun pressed against the chain and two well placed bullets were sent down the barrel before Jonathan forced the door open.

He immediately shut the door from the other side and held his shoulder against it, but he knew there would be trouble. With hopeful expectations, he then turned to investigate the roof. Some form of barricade would be helpful, an immediate evacuation would be better.

"You'll need at least 13 floors, Jen."

Jenna gritted her teeth as she got the news and surveyed the potential of the buildings around them. She wasn't really keen on locking herself into a box to get to the top of the building. Her direction shifted but her pace slowed and she looked over to Meeka and then back to the main lobby of the building. The girl had yet to do anything but run really.

"We need at least 13 floors under us and that," she pointed to the office building. "That is our way up." Jenna's pace slowed even more, despite the intensity of the situation. "So... let's see that gun of yours in action, hm?" She pointed as she spoke, indicating the security guard parked at the desk in front of the elevators.

Yeah, there was a tiny hint of a question, but it wasn't intended to be a question so much as a 'time to prove yourself' statement. Granted, Jenna wasn't the boss, but thus far, the girl Handsome was watching over seemed to be doing more to prove herself than Meeka. Meeka's records showed a great shot, but records could be manipulated. Jenna wanted to see it, especially if she was going to be sharing sniper duty with the woman.

Kara barely noticed the presence of the other man, other than to grab the bottle he was drinking from and dash it towards the agent, whilst trying to grind her knee into his bollocks and whacking wildly down at him.

Harry had waited patiently, sipping away at his beer, deep in thought. The Captain had ordered Meeka and Jenna to break off, no such order for Harry and his mark. Interrupting an initiation was strange, but only stopping half of one? Worth a moments consideration, that was for sure.

Awaking him suddenly, just as the answer seemed close, a blur of motion bore down on him, rolling across the counter before coming to rest at his feet. It was Bolos. Harry smiled down at the man, sidearm in hand, and waited for that second of recognition. Whether it came or not, Bolos clearly got spooked, moving to aim his little pea shooter at the chap.

Harry offered the man a quick wink, then turned and threw himself over the counter, landing on his feet on the other side. Returning his weapon to a hiding spot under his coat, he reached up over the counter and felt around for his beer. A quiet dripping noise off to his far left quickly put that search to an end.

He peaked over the counter to catch a view of what was happening, Kara having come down hard on the agent, fists of fury at the ready, neither of them armed. He sighed and returned to a crouch. She needed to be able to handle this. Men like Bolos were a common pain. Just enough 'smarts' with stupid levels of passion. Gorram heroes in the making, and this one needed to be put down.

In the meantime, Kara continued to lay into the Agent. Her spell in one of the harshest military prisons had taught her how to lay in blows, including exceptionally dirty ones. Her teachers had been some of the best trained, and worst disciplined soldiers that the Alliance had to offer. And she'd learned. Oh how she had learned. And now some of that repressed anger that had sustained her ever since that day back in the war started to show itself as she blocked blows from the Agent and gave him some of the payback she reckoned she was earned.

But it was almost as if she was standing aside, giving herself advice on each move. That kind of drifting world that had kept her sanity through the very worst was still there for her.

As the girls made their way towards a building, Jenna slowed her pace and started giving Meeka some direction of her initiation.

A small smile swept over Meeka's face as she turned to face Jenna. "No worries, boss."

Meeka moved towards an alleyway, crowded with trash cans and bags of rubbish, and started to hum an ol' familiar tune. As she started to assemble Clementine, a few words escaped her mouth, "Hmm hmm darlin', hmm hmm darlin'..." Clementine was ready, and so was Meeka. "Oh my darlin' Clementine..." She had the guard in her sights, "You were lost and gone..." BAM! The guard was down and shot straight through his left eye, her signature move, "...forever, oh my darlin' Clementine."

Meeka looked back at Jenna and smirked. She flung Clem over her shoulder and walked back to Jenna. "Lead the way, boss." she said to Jenna as she gestured towards the building the way a servant would bow to their master.

The Diner

The diner fell silent as a final swing from Kara landed against the agent - he stopped moving, going limp and falling flat against the floor. A quick examination of the downed man revealed that he was still breathing, just out cold. There was a cool breeze then blowing through the ajar front door of the shop, Jenna and Meeka nowhere to be seen. Harry and Kara stood alone now, facing one another.

The Office Block

The security guard by the desk, idling away his shift playing with some portable cortex system, never saw the bullet coming. His neck snapped back, a quick and painless splatter of blood hitting the wall behind him. The windows that formed up the front of the building, built to supposedly resist such bullets, remained intact - only a small hole where the projectile had cleanly flown through remained.

Behind the security desk where elevators, half a dozen of them, and the access door to the fire escape stairs that led up. The building wasn't huge, but getting to the 13th floor would only be taking the unlikely pair up half way or so.

A voice in Jen's ear. "Hurry."

The Apartments

The door to the small apartment buildings roof flew open with ease, the chain standing little chance against Jon and his arsenal. A light wind blew against his face as he slammed the door shut behind him, the echo of footsteps closely following him disappearing in the noisy dark glowing of the city at night.

The rooftop was mostly vacant, save for the usual electrical units that ran the buildings air conditioning and power systems. They weren't huge, but worthy of hiding behind. The thought had barely made its way into his mind when the voice crackled from his belt.

"Almost there, Deleon. Just stay low." As he reached for the handset on his belt, the small red dot idling around his chest caught Jon's attention.

"Hurry."
Jenna was moving long before Meeka left the alley. "My name ain't boss and you take too long. Oh, and next time... try not to let the whole gorram city know where you're at with the sound, hm?"

Between the singing and the sound of the gun, it was a wonder the whole street wasn't looking their way. Reaching up, her bow came off her shoulder, an arrow drawn and was notched. As she drew, Jenna stopped and targeted the cameras just inside the doors, aiming for the lines that connected them to the system. She let loose and was moving again.

"Hey doc," Jenna had her hand to her ear, keying up the connection to the ship. "We can ride up and be there sooner and risk being boxed in or we can run 20 flights and be late. Personally not a fan of riding in a ready made coffin. Make the call. Closing on the front doors now."

Panting, Kara looked down at the unconcious body at her feet. Keeping her eye on the man who had stayed behind, she reached down and picked up the agents gun from where it had fallen. She gently touched a finger to her lip, and then licked, tasting blood where one of his blows had caught her as she'd dived onto him.

The gun was a standard issue, one she'd been trained on, and she wasn't really wanting to keep it. But she stood, ejected the magazine, and checked that, like any well trained agent, he hadn't left a round in the chamber. Which he hadn't. She tossed the gun towards the waste bin, missed, and saw it bounce into the coffee machine.

"Not my cup of tea." she whispered. She turned her attention onto the man who had stood there. "Thanks for great help there, bozo." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a sachet. "Almost not worth the waste, but..." She threw the powder down - over the Agent first, and then onto the counter areas. "Not many of these left." She smiled grimly. "I'd stop drinking were you I or in about two minutes that drink of yours is going to make you throw up - everywhere."

The little show she'd put on, doing that had also allowed her to do something else too. "Who are you?" she asked, as she pointed the taser straight at him.

Harry had watched silently as Kara beat the agent down, taking a step backwards as she rose to her feet. "Is....is he dead?" he asked, a tremble in his voice. Looking down, he skewed his head at the man before glancing back up to Kara. "What is that? Are you...." he asked quizzically before stopping suddenly and raising his arms as the taser was pointed at him.

"Hey now, you don't wanna do that! This place, I own it." He seemed genuinely worried, but nonetheless took a moment to slowly look around the diner and the panic induced mess which now covered it. "Though eh, maybe not for long." Harry added, making a small mental note. His unimpressed gaze stopped on Kara, hands still raised on either side of his head. "Didn't even get to finish my beer." he said in a longing whisper.

Kara cocked her head to one side, considering the others movement, his stance. He was lying of course. They all did, whichever and whoever's side they were on. And this one hadn't been anywhere when she'd entered. "The owner, neh? Gohn Shi, you have a wonderful chance to redecorate courtesey of the Federal Agent, here." and she tapped the agent with the side of her foot.

Kara moved steadily away from this new object in her way, this time taking the sedate route onto the other side of the counter space, retreiving her missing taser shell along the way, feeling for where it had buried itself into an omlette. Her eyes never left his, even as she tucked the shell away and retreived her case.

"I can see why they charge up front in this part of town."
Kara didn't trust the man in front of her, the agents on the ground or anything else that had happened here today. But she didn't want to put him down here and she still needed to get out. She glanced at her time keeper - that Meeka Ma Tze, was well overdue now. Time to get out.

"di ben meng fang*" she called out as she opened the diners door. No sound of sirens or screeching tires or running boots. Was that the suggestion of a rifle in the distance? She wasn't sure about it, but it was definately the final alarm bell needed.

In a moment like the one that had just arisen, Deleon felt it best to take the first opportunity he had.

At the threat of danger, Jonathan moved to the nearest electrical unit that he had noted earlier. He had expected to be taking cover the other side of it and holding off the door but as matters often managed to, they had surprised him. He would have liked to think that there was a kid across the street playing with a laser pen, but it was more likely that the law had been very on their game and quick into action. More so than expected.

Jonathan threw himself in order to cover more distance in less time, as well as dirty a nice suit but that he could live with. Living was his main aim here. After hitting the floor behind cover he quickly whipped his legs around into safety too, and tooking a seated position against the unit. He placed his shotgun across his lap, pointing at the door for if more unwanted guest but a downer on his day. In his other hand was held a pistol as he considered how to deal with what he assumed faced him. Not even his pistol was reliable enough to pick off a sniper. Deleon would be best waiting for the cavalry.

The Office Block

As the pair entered the building, security guard silent and dead and the lobby completely empty, a response came through quite promptly from Jenna's crewmate. Her voice was calm, though in the background through the static Jenna could hear someone else shouting in anger.

"Faster is better, Jen. Our other fresh meat is in a spot of trouble. Floor 13, room 323. That should give the right view... from there, it's up to you two." The crackling ended and the communication shut off.

There were six elevators in the lobby, staircase just beyond them. Two of them, despite the hour, were moving. Both on their way down. The others sat idle at the lobby.

Outside, through the loud shuffle of the city around them, a distant boom echoed through the skies. The sound was familiar to everyone on the streets, no one giving a second glance to investigate it's source. A ship had just broken atmo.

The Apartments, Rooftop

As Jon dove for cover the rifle shot went off. It was silenced, as to be expected of the local authorities, but the loud ping of the round bouncing off one of the nearby units was clear, hanging in the air. He was pinned down, out of options and out of time. the roar of engines flew overhead as an Alliance airtank went by. Recon, for now. They were trying to figure out what kind of arsenal he had.

In the distant, through the dark night sky, a muffled boom echoed through the air as a ship broke atmo just beyond the city limits. If that wasn't Deleon's ride, a casket would be.

Harry remained hush as Kara spoke, watching her carefully from behind a worried façade Should she have bee tempted to try and rid herself of him, he was ready. Instead, he was just worried, or trying to be. Hands still raised in the air,he watching Kara make her way toward the exit. "Right. Ya'll enjoy the city now." he yelled as she left, an odd touch of local cheerfulness in is voice.

His hands slowly dropped, returning to his sides, the awkward, goofy smile from his face fading as he looked down at the unconscious agent. Now, what to do with you? Glancing up, he waited to check if Kara had truly left and made enough distance. Unable to spot her, his attention returned to Bolos.

One hand reached into his coat, removed a weapon, and aimed it down at the man. Shaking is head silently, Harry squeezed the trigger for a second, sending a handful of rounds into the man's face and neck at point blank range.

Harry looked back up, returning his weapon to its holster and wiping a few splashes of crimson blood from his face. Spots of it also dotted his once clean suit, he shoes were a whole nother mess. Placing one hand againsnt his ear he said "Diner cleared. My marks gone after yours. Sitrep?"

For anyone watching outside, it did appear that there was a smartly dressed businessman in the middle of a trashed, abandoned diner, covered in splashes of blood and gore, talking to himself.

Outside the Diner

Kara breathed out slowly once she left the well lit windows of the Diner. A quick glance through the windows showed the odd man still standing there where she'd left him. A quick glance at her watch told her everything that she needed to know. She was going to be late. Looking both ways, she could see an odd twitch of a window, a shadow that wasn't quite deep enough. People were hidng - keeping out of the way.

It didn't matter. She sprinted across the street - into the same shadows. Darted down another Alleyway until its end. Stopping, she listened carefully. What now? Her relaxed breathing brought up the map of the area back into her sight. Very well then. A saunter down the main road, a careful crossing of the street - at the pedestrian crossing and half way down another street, she turned into yet another Alleyway as she heard far too much traffic ahead. Trouble? She pondered.

---------------------------
The fire-escape descended into a locked metal cage, but its standardised lock, even in the dark, presented very little in the way of a obstacle and she was through it well within a minute, even with locking it behind her. Despite the feeling that time was crawling away, she took the metal ladder steadily and stealthily, taking care not to make a sound as she pulled herself up to the roof. This building abutted two others and she should be able to see exactly was going on at the other side of the block. With hope.

"Faster is better, Jen. Our other fresh meat is in a spot of trouble. Floor 13, room 323. That should give the right view... from there, it's up to you two."

Jenna wordlessly pointed to one of the elevators that was sitting idle, while keeping an eye on the two that were moving. "We need floor 13, room 323. We're laying cover for another newbie." As she approached the elevator, Harry's voice came across.

Grav

"Diner cleared. My marks gone after yours. Sitrep?"

"Go se..." The swear was muttered under her breath as she reached to key up the earpiece, leaving Meeka to get the elevator open. "Our third is treed. Me and mine are headed up to give cover. Yours never caught up with us, Handsome. Never saw her. Doc, be advised, we've got a stray."

When the doors to the elevator slid open, Jenna was inside and pressing the button for the needed floor, quickly followed by the button to close the doors. "Let's just hope no one wants to try and join us on this one. Could get messy. For them." For the first time in Meeka's presence, Jenna smiled, but it was no where near pretty. It was the smile of a predator, a wicked glint in her eyes. "Have that long shot ready to go."

Meeka followed Jenna into the building, keeping a mental note of the girl. She knew that they weren't going to get along off the mark. Guess few do with Meeka. You could say she has become a sort of "lone wolf", but she doesn't quite like being compared to animals.

She followed her orders from Jenna in silence, but a small laugh escaped her lips when she passed the security guard. He had no chance the moment she had her sights on him. 'Least he's in a better place. A place without the Feds. And her.

Meeka moved her way over to the elevators, pushed the button to call one down, and waited for Jenna. A low 'ting' sound rang, and as the doors opened, Meeka walked in with Jenna right behind her.
Jenna

"Have that long shot ready to go."
Meeka nodded her head and grasped Clementine's strap. She was ready, and her song started up again in her head. Nothing could keep her song quiet.

Thus came one of those moments that made Deleon's life more interesting, and that was interest on time of the interesting day he’s had so far. Pinned down and pretty much cornered, Jonathan had to get to his ride, if it was his ride and hightail from his enemies.

He leaned forward somewhat to get eyes on his vehicle, and with an open hand squashing down the air he signalled for it lower so that it would be in a position in his reach. Once he saw a friendly sign of co-operation, he'd make his move. Could have been an easy and protected move to an open door, or a danger filled run and a leap to find his grip in that ride. Jonathan just knew he couldn't hold his position for long.

The Office Block

"You've lost one of them?!" It was Eduardo's voice this time, filled with rage, that came in through the ear pieces Harry and Jenna had hooked up. In the office building, still more or less vacant, one of the elevators had hit the lobby and the doors swung open. The bright, sterile little box was clean and empty, waiting for them to proceed upwards.

"Handsome, you find the stray. If she's already gone AWOL, tie up the loose end. And get someplace HIGH!" It wasn't a shout this time, but the rage was still there.

The Apartments

Across town, pinned on the roof, Jon was able to just catch sight of the bulky ship descending on the small city. It didn't look familiar, but he could only hope it was his ride out of there. There was no sign that his signalling had caught the crews attention. As the bulk descended, coming well into sight now, the roar of engines overhead almost deafened Jon as two local jets flew by, extremely low.

The ship assumed to be the Vanguard, not quite made for atmospheric action, rolled and started evasive maneuvers further into the sky as the two security craft passed it, coming around for a second run.

Another silenced shot splattered out across the void between the two buildings, the bullet landing just beside Jon's foot, digging into the metal flooring. The sniper was relocating.

The Diner

As Kara pulled herself to the roof, two low flying jets roared overhead and screams from the streets down below echoed up to her ears. From here she had a visual on the ship that just broke atmosphere, as well as the awkward dogfight that was about the follow. The roof she was on was more or less vacant.
