Meeka made her way out of the building and everything seemed the same when she entered it. Except for one thing; the sound of ever growing sirens moving towards the building. "Wong ba dunh" she muttered under her breath. They must've seen the footage. Meeka quickly looked to the streets to find her exit route and noticed it was fairly clear, and that the people coming in and out of the building started to chat amongst themselves about the sirens. Now was the time to make her escape.

Meeka started a brisk walk back the way she came, and pulled her hood up over her head, not wanting to look too obvious. She kept to the sides of the street and taking any back alley she could, trying to make it back to Kara as quick as she could. She better not have gorram left yet! she thought to herself.

She glanced at her watch and noticed she had taken a little longer than she had expected, and broke into a quick run to make it back to the small diner in time.

Harry's attention seemed to continually shift. The melodic ringing of the sirens, the patterns of letters on the screen which he held, and finally to the ever developing scene in the diner before him. From within, a scream was heard, to which there was no reaction from himself.

Young Bolos on the other hand, had differing opinions on the matter. Pistol aimed firmly at the source of the commotion, the Agent headed toward the back of the diner intently. Harry watched intently, shifting his neck a little to satisfy a nerve or two. The Cortex unit was returned to his pocket, as was his other hand.

He glanced about, nothing daring to meet his gaze, then smiled contentedly at the diner, before walking in the front door, just another cheery customer, head down and hands in his pockets.

The Diner

The agent, presumably blind or near to it, started screaming at her and scrambling to pull Kara towards her.

In the front of the store, Special Agent Bolos heard the cry and held his sidearm ahead of him, moving towards the back hall.

"Na" Kara brought up her knee sharply into the others face. "fang" she did it again. "le" she finished as this time she brought her reinforced case squarely down on the agents temple. "Just leave me alone" Kara spat. "You're going to get me killed, jei jei!"

Kara hadn't forgotten that there was another agent out there, one who wouldn't have missed this. 'Better safe than sorry.' She grabbed the spray dispenser, activated it for continual dispersion and threw it into the open doorway to the diner. "chengbaizaiciyiju"*" she muttered as she started to untangle herself.

Jenna muttered to herself as her 'target' headed off into back alleys. So long as the girl didn't get into one that was a dead end, she was good. Otherwise, Jenna was going to have to play eyes in the sky. "Headed back your way, covering the retreat. Looks like company might show up from our direction."

Occasionally, Jenna canted her head to listen for anyone coming behind them. She was also trying to stay close enough to Meeka so as not to lose the girl, but far enough back she was turned on and shot. Peeking around corners, she was just keeping up with Meeka, seeing just enough of the woman disappearing around the next corner. Just in case, Jenna pulled one of her hand guns, but as long as Meeka didn't do anything crazy, or in the boss' eyes: stupid; Jenna wouldn't being using it on those headed for the Vanguard

Harry quietly made his way up to the counter, Agent Bolos unaware of his entrance. His eyes focused on the man for a moment, then quickly flicked to another table, before running the length of the counter and settling on a slightly worried looking attendant. "Just a beer." he said simply through his odd smile.

From the back room, the source of the yelling, came the clear sounds of a struggle, or possibly the end of one as a sort of blunt object meets cranium crack could be felt. Bolos froze where he stood, his shock clear, and Harry's smile grew by an inch. At the same time, Jenna chattered away in his ear.. Things were about to kick off. "And make it quick." he then added, settling into one of the nearby seats.

Before the idea of comfort even had a moment to set in, the door to the back entrance was flung open, and from it came a small cloud of gas which seemed to grow by the second. Well, that would certainly do. He turned from the door and moved back. "My ones using chemical warfare on the Feds. Can't say I'm not a little pleased."

Out on the street, the alleys and back streets of the city were quiet enough and the sirens didn't seem to follow Meeka - nor Jenna. They were likely headed to the safety deposit building where a red flag had probably been raised, but the pair of felons were already well on their way back to their respective companions, one unaware of the other. The trip back to the diner didn't take long, Meeka arriving just in time to see another customer walk into the place and order something at the counter. Jenna, of course, caught sight of her partner. there was no sign of Kara.

Inside the diner, Agent Bolos disappeared into the back of the establishment. Another few shouts came form the bathroom, this time cursing in Chinese, and some patrons looked towards the commotion in confusion and fear. The waitress behind the counter tried to keep everyone calm with a warm smile and a fresh pot of coffee she started to circulate.

In the bathroom, midway through the door into the corridor, one final knee jutting into the face of her pursuer left Kara with the sound of a loud cracking in her ears. The agent on the floor beside her stopped moving, unconscious. Out in the hall she had two directions to take - one, that led to the kitchens, and the other that led back to the store front.

In or Out? That was the question. This was getting very real, far too quickly for her liking. In a film, or even in her previous existence, she could dive out of the door, go to ground, find cover and use hidden backups. Truth is, she knew next to nothing about this planet. Only the fact that someone set up an interview for her, got her a ticket to this benighted and bedamned moon and then guided her to a bar where ...

"Too much thought" Kara thought aloud. The gun she had packed away earlier was ready to hand. But another butt was next to it. Another phrase came to her. At the same time another text message flashed across her retina's. 'Death is not an option.' Her hand fell to the second gun and drew it out. She activated the weapon and a low whine told her ears that it was ready, its barrels blue light barely showing in the bright lights inside the diner.

Taking a deep breath, she dove through the door of the diner and fired the taser shell straight at the dark suited agent on the other side. As the second chamber revolved around she fired at him again, hoping it would be enough.

The Slums

It was the kind of opportunity that only came about once in a lifetime. Unfortunately, that didn't make it any less mundane.

"You haven't got any options left. We've covered the exits. Come out unarmed..." There was a pause, one that Jon Deleon recognised blatantly as
'I'm lying', before the police chief finished, "... and you'll go unharmed. Nobody wants any more bloodshed tonight." They'd spun that line a few times already, like it was going to convince him to stop.

But he had orders.

Jon had been called in on the job only a few days earlier - it'd been pure coincidence that he'd already been on the right planet, in the right city. That being said, after his dealings with the revolutionary leader Eduardo so far, Deleon was started to wonder if coincidence played a role in it at all. More than once he'd felt like everything was out of his control, like he was merely a cat chasing after a string. But he couldn't stop chasing.

Now he was surrounded. He'd blown up the diner and stuck to the plan thus far, but the Feds had been far quicker than expected. The small apartment building he was in now did indeed seem surrounded, the heavy footfall of boots down the stairwell only confirming that the enforcement officers had already entered the building. The only direction left was up. A dozen or more stories tall, the roof of the small building was unlikely to offer him any escape. But what else was there?

The Diner

The agent in the hall ducked for cover as soon as there was any sign of movement. He caught sight of his downed companion, however, before disappearing behind a table which he promptly overturned. The shell from Kara rocketed through the diner, narrowly missing her target and instead slamming into a young woman sitting by the front window. The impact and the taser blast knocked her from her seat, unconcious and sprawled across the floor with a loud slump.

The agent still hadn't noticed Harry.

Let's keep them invested.

It was rare that Deleon got to use his prize shotgun, customized for performance and rightly won from a dueling contest. It all came to be worth when Jon opened his apartment door, threw his gun toting arm over the balcony and fired off a shell. The shot didn't just sound loud, it felt loud sending a visible wave of energy through his arm that jilted in response. It wasn't a weapon designed to be used one handed but he certainly didn't fancy introducing many other body parts into the line of fire. The bullers showering down the stairway would slow the feds down, but it would also keep them coming - the perfect mix of what he needed to invoke right now. Pulling his gun back, Deleon took up a sprint to the higher levels.

He ran through escape routes in his head. Was there anything adjoining that he could reach through an apartment window? Did the roof offer his salvation? If nothing came to mind he would simply have to continue to ascend and improvise. When the time was right, he employed his shotgun again and gave his pursuers another speed bump.

Damnit, Harry quietly cursed to himself. With this kind or racket he was never getting that beer. What ever happened to perks of the job eh? Being a, whatever they were calling themselves these days, sure did suck sometimes. He watched the door patiently as the agent moved to enter, the hand in his jacket moving, his fingers tracing along the handle of a concealed weapon. No, he stopped himself, the urge coming from nowhere but holding its own. Ah yes, his original plan, see what they were capable of first.

As if to answer his silent request, Kara burst through the door, guns literally blazing. Not fast enough for the target though, as Bolos went to ground and quickly found cover. With reflexes like that….the idea began, but soon trailed off as Harry watched with a degree of amusement the consequence of the mis-aimed shots. A little collateral damage to weight on the soul, he mused with a sombre stare.

The diner crowd was in that second long silence between shock and fear, the very idea of screaming of running having not quite clicked yet, the calm before the storm. As his eyes did a quick scan of the room, keen to spot any potential heroes in the making, a flicker of recognition jumped to the front of his mind, as the distinct outline of Jenna stood, watching the scene from a distance. At least if shit really did hit the fan, he'd have that level of backup. It also meant that Meeka must be close by.

With that, it was settled. His hand relaxed on the grip of his sidearm, and as an undercover member of the general public witnessing a shoot out, he tried to seem as panicked as possible without looking like a complete and utter twat.

Jenna couldn't keep back the grin at Handsome's description of his charge's methods. "Why, Handsome, you sound impressed."

At this distance, the handgun wasn't going to be of much use unless the Feds showed up in vehicles. Thus far, it didn't sound as if they were following from the direction of the building in which Meeka had stored her things. Yet. If the little twerp minding the counter didn't point in the right direction, they'd be alright for a bit. At least until someone inside the diner made a call.

Cutting communication wasn't her strong suit, and while she could physically cut any direct lines running into the diner, it was likely the Fed inside had wireless options in his employ. She had eyes on the man, til he took cover. That would make shooting him a little more difficult. Sliding the hand gun back into its holster, Jenna moved into the street a little more, drawing closer to the diner.

The Diner

Seconds later, reacting to the gunshots and the woman hitting the floor, the patrons and workers of the small diner broke their calm and started running for the door. There were only a handful of them, but the chaos was enough to disrupt the peace. Outside, people were catching on that something was up.

The agent fired a few blind shots over the improvised cover, all of them missing Kara by a mile, and with his spare hand keyed his hand held radio in the hopes of calling in backup.

The Apartments

Shouting from downstairs echoed up as the shotgun blasts pinged off the balustrades below. A cry came from one of the officers pursing Jon - a hit. The calls for peace from outside came to a halt, too. They'd finally realised that he wasn't giving in.

Every time Deleon came to a floor landing, the hallways that stretched in either direction offered little assistance. sure, the abundance of apartments that were likely empty was staggering, but how they could help him was unknown. Windows at either end of the hall offered escape, too, but unless he got hold of a rope or a ladder or some kind of jetpack, they were only an express ticket to the solid street below.

The rooftop, it would seem, was his only true option. Of course, there was always the "gun'n'run" route back down the stairs.

The rapidly decreasing possibility of outs was not a welcome situation, and if Jonathan found nothing on the roof he knew there were bad odds for the way down. That'd please the Vellas, losing him in a blaze of glory. He was spurred on by the chance of not giving them the satisfaction, plus he had a lot more to give before he fell.

Employing another tactic, Jonathan stopped on one level, took a deep breath before screaming towards the open stairwell in his best maniacal voice. "If you don't stop comin', I'm gonna blow this place sky high." A cliched thing to say, but with the evidence that he'd taken out the diner, he would expect the feds to take him seriously and give him some breathing room. He held is ground for a moment so that he could listen intently for signs of whether his words had affected their tact, or whether they will still coming strong.

Whatever the result, his path for the top would quickly resume.

"Hey, there!" Kara shouted over to the agent, whilst her hand fumbled for the ice box near to hand. "I'd appreciate it if you didn't try to call anyone. You'll find it won't work anyway so you might as well give it up. That way, you don't get a hole in you!"

Kara was hoping that the short range jammer still worked the same way it did back in the war. It should have activated as soon as the gas jet did, but she wasn't that sure of anything. Too many things going on here. "Hey, you hear me?" she shouted again. This time though she followed it up with an unhurried throw of the icebox. "Time for a cold shower" she chuckled as she readied her taser again.

If someone had been watching the crowd that fled, they may have noticed one particular member who, despite appearing distressed, calmly moved away from the door and instead moved behind the counter.

Harry quietly made his way up to one of the fridges and took a moment to check its contents. A few seconds later he opened the door and looted a dark, longneck bottle from it. Closing the door, he then paused, looking over toward the exchange between Kara and the Fed.

"You seeing this?" he seemingly asked himself with a small grin, moving toward the counter. With one quick movement, the bottle was open, its top spinning quietly on the floor. Harry took a mouthful, sighed, then leaned against the counter. Not bad he quietly thought, but needs a kick.

The Diner

The agent taking cover in the front of the diner seemed to see Kara's next move coming, diving out of cover as her next shots - and the icebox - came her way. Missing him again, only narrowly, the young lady forced the agent into a careless div e across the front counter, the only other cover he had to take. He manage to clear the bench, coming down in an awkward landing right at Harry's feet.

Outside, with view of the commotion, static crackled in Jenna's ear as she peared towards her quarry, Meeka. A familiar voice cut through - familiar, but unexpected. The same message came through the Harry, agent at his feet.

"Raven, you need to make contact now. Things have escalated. You and the new girl need to get some place high." It was Eduardo Escuela.

The Apartments

Jon's words seemed to echo down the cavernous vertical tunnel that was the stairwell. He was only a few floors away from the rooftop now and the heavy clatter of boots on metal framework was coming from below. As the enforcers heard his threat, though, a short silence fell over the place. No doubt they were scanning the building for explosives. A few minutes later, they'd be coming again, and with more rage.

"Deleon. Get to the roof. Extraction will go as planned. But keep your head low." The sound came from a walkie talkie clipped to Jon's belt, the only item he'd been given for this task. He hadn't heard the voice before, but could only guess who it was. Deep, his accent thick, and commanding. His new boss.

(OOC: Eduardo, despite the fact most of you might have guessed, has a thick South American/Mexcian accent. I never know how to describe such things in the 'Verse.)

The boss' voice in her ear was the last thing Jenna had been expecting. It meant things were bad. Instantly, a memory reared its head. A white sheet, bloody as all hell and next to it a rifle, dark grey and red camouflage. Shaking her head once to clear the memory, Jenna was already looking for a way up as she came around the corner and headed straight for Meeka.

"Understood, boss." Letting out a sharp, shrill whistle in hopes of getting Meeka's attention, Jenna reholstered her gun. A quick sprint and she was closing in on the girl. When she was within a couple steps, Jenna called out to her. "Sorry sweetheart, the diner ain't a good idea. I know where you're headed and we need to be on the roof, ASAP."

Jonathan was brought to a skidding halt by the sound of the walkie talkie coming to life. Quickly he plucked the device from his beltline and held it to his ear to listen closely. Contact was a good asset in his current predicament, and the talk of extraction was warmly received in Deleon's mind. He promptly offered confirmation. “Received,” his clean accent returned, in polished tone one associated with presenting the news. Jonathan clipped the unit back on his belt line and continued his move to the roof.

Jonathan saw two possible obstacles in his future. Finding an entry and securing that entry. His shotgun could deal with any locks on offer, but that didn’t do much for securing the way or keeping the feds cautious. He couldn’t see much alternative if the issue arose, and could only hope for a swift extraction.

Hope only went so far though, he’d hold his position whatever waiting time existed.

Meeka saw the commotion in the diner the moment it was in her sights. Was she going to do anything about it? Hell no. This was the girls fight, she needed to prove her worth, not "teamwork".

Patrons came screaming out of the diner a few moments later, things had heated up a bit quicker than expected. "Kids good..." she muttered to herself.

Just as Meeka was starting to enjoy the show, a sharp, shrill whistle caught her attention. A woman sprinted towards Meeka and called out towards her.

A tail?! How could she not've noticed her! Then again, I guess it was her job not to be noticed. Boy was she good at her job. Meeka gave her an assuring nod and followed her, keeping up with her fast sprint. She has got to lead to the Vanguard, why else would she be helping Meeka? A small smile overcame Meeka's face, and she was excited to see what would happen next.

Kara wasn't far behind the agent, throwing herself fully onto the top of the counter which she leapt off in a flying jump with barely a pause, aiming to come down fully on the agent. She had passed that mystical moment that always seemed to kick in. She was annoyed!
