"Another dinner date, huh?", Meeka humoured to herself. She watched the young girl upload the coordinates into her PDA of some sorts. It looked heavily used, but it worked as though it was brand new. The girl had the co-ordinates in a few moments, and started to make a move on.
Kara

"Glad I wore trousers, tonight. And boots"
"You coming?"

"Right behind you, Kara..". She waited for the look of surprise in her eyes. "I know who you are. Pretty sure half the 'Verse does. I'm Meeka." She walked up next to the girl, and started into a jog just as she passed her.

"Time is of the essence! Move." she called behind her with a grin.

The revelation that Meeka knew who Kara was hit her hard. She'd noticed various looks on various ships, in stores and other places, ever since leaving Coventry but this was about the first time anyone had ever dare come and say they recognized her.

Other than that last, hopefully to be blasted, engineering works, where they had chucked her out. She swore that the next man who laid a hand on her was going to be sorry about it.

Concentrate! she berated herself and she started chasing after Meeka.

The two women moved quickly through alleyways and side streets as the echo of sirens came to a rest near the diner they had just fled. They'd been on the move for maybe five minutes, in relative silence and without bumping into anyone else on the streets, when an earth shaking explosion ignited the evening sky behind them. The diner had been blown sky high, the sound of sirens cut off as the vehicles were likely knocked out in the explosion. People could be heard screaming in the distance.

An explosion like that, Border planet or not, was going to bring one hell of a response.

Kara didn't even pause as she kept up the steady lope that the two girls had developed. Mentally though she had thought through the actions. It was just like being back in the war on Londinium. One incident, then a second. "They're escalating." She kept a low voice whilst she continued to talk to Meeka. "Whoever sat that up certainly knew the local security response times. Trigger an incident, then trigger another bomb to take out the investigators. If we're really, really lucky, they also took out any of the security footage. NO guarantee though."

The flash of light from the explosion hadn't reached them here but they were approaching a more brightly lit street junction ahead. "Slow down, Meeka." Kara asked, breathing a bit more heavily. "No need to look conspicuous. We just wander across, talking as we go. Just like the good people out there are doing." She was already hearing the constant whining, beeping and howling as assorted vehicle and building alarms sounded everywhere behind them, no doubt set off by the bombs concussion. "You do realise that the feds will get called in now, don't you?" And as she walked towards the better lighted street she smiled, anticipation lighting up her face. "I do wonder...." For a second she was back in a more murky world. "I do so ever wonder if there's a second bomb...waiting."

The pair quickly reached the junction ahead, where the small side street they were in crossed a main road to another small alley. They were making good time, on the bright side of things. On the street, a few people were rushing along with their heads down, likely heading home the shortest route possible. The main road was nearly empty of traffic. A few restaurants and stores that were still open had a customers and employees standing outside the main doors, chattering nervously as they stared at the sky for clues as to what was happening.

As the two moved ever closer to their destination, an earth shattering explosion had ignited the night sky, along with the cafe. Kara started to speak about the explosion, and who could be coming next around the corner.
Kara

"They're escalating...NO guarantee though."

As the girls came out of the dimly light alley ways, they found themselves approaching a more populated street.
Kara

"Slow down Meeka. No need to look conspicuous. We just wander across, talking as we go. Just like the good people out there are doing."

Meeka glared back at Kara when she told her to slow down. She didn't like taking orders from people, let alone ones younger then her. "Who gives a damn if we're running or walking. We got somewhere to be, and I don't want to be late for my date" She started to think of the blonde girl back at the cafe. She hoped she'd be at the next place. No one throws a grenade near her and gets away with it. "Who gives a damn about the Feds. You said the cameras may be gone? Well my bets on that, and they won't be looking for us. Well.., you maybe." she replied, with a smirk on her face. "If there is another we better get a move on. I don't want to get caught in it. Which way now girl? she asked Kara as she pulled her PDA out of her pocket. "We're doing good for time, but we don't know what else could get in out way. Lets get going."

As the two girls moved along, people had started to rush away down into small streets, probably looking for a safe place to go home. The street was almost empty, except for the few shop owners and customers coming out to look at the brightly lit sky, and chatter amongst themselves.

"Any chance the docks are close by the restaurant? I need to pick up a few things if we've got the time" Meeka asked Kara. She was starting to miss Clementine, and had the feeling she'd be needed her soon.

"Any chance the docks are close by the restaurant? I need to pick up a few things if we've got the time" Meeka asked Kara. She was starting to miss Clementine, and had the feeling she'd be needed her soon.

Kara consulted her route map. "Gonna be Chancy. I don't think there's too much of a leeway in getting to our destination," Kara started down another Alleyway, taking them back into more dimly lit (and less security tagged) streets.

"Besides, have you wondered why she threw you the gun? We may not have the opportunity to get too far off this route either. And if the feds are involved (she spat the word feds with anger) then they'll have tightened the port security cordon even more than usual. I don't have the time to make myself up to get through that. After all - you recognized me. Can't take that chance now, even if their retina scanners throw out a false ID."

Kara reflected on the fact that in the old days, even as a teenager, she would have felt this steady jog through the streets. That was what the last six years in a maximum fitness jail does for you. Jog everywhere. She felt that she could keep going for ages.
Kara looked over at Meeka wondering just how desperate the other girl was. "You want to risk it all for belongings, you go ahead."

Kara's intel was up to date - the docks district, and more precisely the safety deposit building Meeka was searching for, was a fifteen minute detour from their destination. Technically, with no difficulties, they had time for both. That thought, however, was interrupted with the high buzzing of an engine, as two low-flying airtanks zoomed over the intersection where the girls stood, headed in the direction of the explosion.

The Feds had already deployed. With that kind of response time, a station of Federal Officers must have already been on standby, or perhaps a carrier in orbit had been tipped off.

Crossing the street, and having drawn little to no attention, the girls continued off through the slums back streets, their destination not too much further ahead.

"If we stick to the shadows, they won't see us. I'm sure we can make it in due time. You don't even have to come in. Just wait around. I just need you to get me there and back to the rendevous point."

While Kara was searching her intel for Meeka's belongings, two low-flying air tanks flew over the intersection the girls stood at. The Feds. It seemed too quick of a response for them to be here already, and Mee3ka started to think this is what the Vangurad had in stall for them. That, or there was a snitch. The ships kept of their way towards the exploded cafe, and so the girls continued on their way to the waypoint.

"Looks as though they're not after us..., yet." Meeka spoke to Kara. "I need to get my things, incase they do happen to meet up with us again, and I don't want to be caught with my pants down."

Meeka did her best to try and convince Kara to go with her, but she would go without her if she had to. She waited for Kara's response, indicating that there wasn't a lot of time to think about it.

"Jeez." Kara knew she sounded exasperated. "There's a diner on the way. I'll give it 15 minutes and then I'm moving again. You see any kind of fed activity you bug out girl." She looked Meeka straight in the face. "Hide that piece on the way and pick it up again afterwards."

Kara stared at her and pointed at another intersection. "Go down there to the main street, turn left at the next major intersection - Carlysyt Road - and that will get you there faster. " Now GO."

As Meeka disapeared in the distance, Kara slowed down and sauntered out of the alleyway, deliberately making it look like she was a stranger in down, examining street signs and so made her way into the diner and sat down. The diner itself was non-standard with a single seating corner running all the way round the serving area. She called out for iced water and a toasted muffin, and sat down to while away the time until Meeka could return.

A serving girl promptly brought the small order to Kara in the diner and then went back to work. The diner was quite empty at this time of night, with a couple sitting by the front window and an elderly man sipping coffee at the counter; otherwise, the building was empty. The place seemed calm, conspicuous, dull. Surely her time here would avoid any unwanted attention.

With that thought, however, the small bell by the door rang and a man in a tidy, tailored suit walked in. He stood tall, eying off everyone in the diner as he moved to the counter. As he walked, his jacket swung from side the side, the glint of badge clipped to his belt shining ever so briefly in Kara's direction.

The diner suddenly felt very crowded.

A few blocks over, following the directions Kara had given her, Meeka rounded a corner and caught sight of the safety deposit building she had visited upon arriving earlier that day. In the small building was a large locker with all her worldy belongings in it. By the door stood a security guard, the same she'd seen there in her previous visit, and a rather constant stream of patrons going and in out of the large building. The street here was busy; it wouldn't be too hard to blend in.

The Diner

Kara looked up briefly at the well groomed man as he moved around to the far end of the Diner, where he would be able to see nearly everyone in the Diner together with the front door. Fed or local? she mused to herself, letting her eyes concentrate on the cortex display in front of her. She was tired and the warmth of the run here was bleeding off now, leaving her with a cold chill that she reacted to, shuddering slightly as a draft from the kitchen hit her.

Mostly the bulletin board was all local news, mainly offering playbacks of the latest baseball or soccer games played that day. Or in one case being waved live from Boros (not really live, she thought again as she remembered how that small delay in the relay patterns could be used to fix a sting by the bookies she'd been introduced to).

Damn the man! Was he a regular or was he trawling? She needed to ramp up her act.

After a minute, she glanced at her watch, sighed and slumped slightly and then got up and made her way into the toilets. The chill was deeper here, coming through an open back door for employee's use. A small set of what looked like old cupboard doors showed the way into the basic toilet facility. This wasn't a guaranteed safe spot but it would give her enough time to straighten herself up in the cubicle. Changing anything major would trigger an alarm, but a quick check allowed her to make sure that the dermatological hand prints were still functioning correctly. She flushed and moved to the small counter, ready to apply a little makeup. With a little luck Meeka might have enough sense to go along with Kara's come on - if she needed it. Kara wasn't at all sure that Meeka would. She wasn't trained in the same way.

From their vantage point, Harry and Jenna could see the Federal Officer - a man they'd background checked as Special Agent Martin Bolos - enter the diner that their quarry was sitting in. The other girl, the one they'd figured was Meeka Corday, had already split from her partner and headed off down the streets nearby. Everything was getting interesting.

The pair, ever watchful, also saw the female agent enter the diner from the back. When Kara got up, casually striding to the bathrooms in the back of the building, it became clear the Vanguard crew mates were about to get involved.

In the bathroom, as Kara looked up to check over her makeup, the door swung open and a tall woman strode in, suit and all. She let the door swing close, just staring at Kara in the reflection. Her face showed a smile, but her body was tense.

"Kara Leaford." It wasn't a question. Kara could see the bulge of a shoulder holster under the woman's jacket.

The girls had split and Meeka had one thing on her mind; Clementine. The docks were busy. This was a good sign, and Meeka knew to take advantage of it. She spotted the guard who was on duty when she landed, and made her way inside the building.

The lockers were just past the little office station Meeka had to sign into that. The Key-Card. Meeka started to rifle through her pocket, and a moment later she produced the small plastic card with the number 8 on it. Keeping up with her brisk pace, Meeka rounded the corner and met up with the lockers. She swiped the card, and with a quick *ting* the door was open and closed within a moment. Meeka threw her bag over her shoulder, feeling the reassuring clunk of Clem on her back, and made her way back to the office.

Meeka dropped the card onto the kiosk window and gave the man a quick nod, and pulled out a few credits and muttered to him, "Forget my face and you'll live a long life."

Meeka moved on without waiting for the man to respond.

They hadn't died yet, which was good. Now one of them was cornered, which wasn't. Harry shuffled where he stood and looked to Jenna, trying to gauge just how bad she though it was, before looking back to the diner. A hand moved to his hip, dipping under a old, dirty looking coat and feeling around for a moment. When he felt the handle, he nodded to himself and began the next step.

"Why, I do believe a guiding hand of sorts is in order." he said quietly, finally breaking the odd silence. "You have a preference?" he asked with a grin, the rest of that sentence best remaining unsaid. He raised his arm slightly and indicating from the diner to where Meeka had been headed. "No, wait." He paused, a voice interrupting itself, his eyes narrowing on an unknown face in the crowd, before opening wide and looking to Jenna. "I've got the diner." he finally added intent, a strange sound of satisfaction in his voice.

If it had been anyone else, Jenna would have given a flat refusal to the choice Harry made, but in her book, he was good. Good mostly because he didn't feel the need to chat too much while working, which generally ground on her nerves and ended up with her hitting the people working with her. Shifting her weight, Jenna let a flicker of emotion; a faint, thin smile; show on her features as she looked over at Harry.

"I think I'll let the other one ride a little longer. See how she does solo." Looking back to the diner, Jenna nodded once. Reaching up with one hand, she tapped her ear, indicating the ear piece in it. "Give me a shout if you need help."

The smile flickered back, twisting into a smirk. Harry knew her enough to know it was just part of who she was, to make jibes like that. Without waiting for an answer, Jenna started down the street at a light jog. It was a good thing they'd been watching the two long enough to know where the Meeka girl had stashed her things. And having seen the type of weapon the girl packed, Jenna didn't blame her for going back for it.

It didn't take her long to round the corner near the safety deposit building. Her timing seemed to be perfect as she could see Meeka inside, walking away from the desk. Her hand moved to her ear, opening the line.

"Have our side trip covered. May end up heading back your way, Handsome. I'll keep you posted."

The Diner

The agent who had entered through the front of the small establishment was standing by the front counter, Handsome and Jenna having a clear view of him. Once their newest companion, Kara, had moved to the back of the diner and disappeared, he'd promptly pulled out his badge and displayed it to the waitress preparing his coffee. She just nodded. The man then produced his weapon, muttering something to the patrons around the diner, and then started towards the bathrooms.

Safety Deposit Building

The clerk at the front desk was wordless as Meeka departed, moving back passed the security guard by the front door and into the cool evening air outside. Sirens were still filling the streets from a distance as the explosion was still news. After a few moments, though, guided by the odd look from the security guard, Meeka noticed that some of those sirens were actually getting closer, not the opposite.

From her distant trail, Jenna heard it, too.

"Help." he repeated melodically to himself, a small smile flashing momentarily in his eyes before he turned away with a grunt. "I had other plans." Harry added, checking his own ear piece as he spoke.

"Lets see what rules they wanna play by first." Harry smiled as he was addressed by his nickname., removing the old, worn rag of a coat, under which here wore a fancy looking suit of the day, somewhere inside of which a tag had 'rental' written on it.

Harry made his way down from their vantage point without another word spoken. There was something about this particular task which had peeked his interest. It was the whole surprise of it all. Anything could happen, and so it usually did.

This might have warmed Harrys heart as he made his way to the diner, but instead he just warmed his hands in some empty, excitement. Finally, he arrived opposite the diner and reached into his pocket, pulling out a Cortex unit, before growling at the screen angrily and attempting to remedy it.

Kara did smile. "Took you long enough!" she stated quite calmly. "I thought you would have caught me up a few streets over." She turned to the woman, lipstick still in her hand. "Can I see the badge clearly please?" she asked politely. "After all, after one attempt." She allowed a flicker of concern to briefly appear on her face. "Well I hope it was just one attempt, I have no intention of letting them have a second go at me."

The look on the others face was rather priceless. In fact it looked angry.

"You!" the other exclaimed. "You're the one who's a bomber."

Kara's voice was still calm and collected. "I never, ever, bombed civilian targets. Or police. Only legitimate military targets. Even if the collateral damage was just too much that one time."

The others eyes were widening out in what Kara was assuming was sheer disbeleif. Hardly a surprise really. Calling over 50,000 civilian deaths a bit too much was almost guaranteed to raise a reaction. And this was no exception as she saw the others face tighten and the body start to react.

"OK. I assume you want me to come along." Kara capped her lipstick and moved to put it back in her case. The 'deoderant' she pulled up with the other hand and sprayed it straight towards the female agents eyes. Kara leapt at her and with a push she attempted to knock back the female agent into the corridor beyond and so get access to the rear door.

The Diner

The woman reeled back in surprise as a fine mist shot through the air towards her face. One hand flew up in self defense while the other went back to cushion her fall against the wall. She screamed out in pain as the mist hit her eyes, a yell that the other agent and the patrons and Harry would have heard.

The push came quickly and the woman hardly had a chance to defend herself, slamming into the wall beside the door. As Kara made for the exit, however, a flailing leg came out against her knee, bringing her down to the floor also, half way through the door and into the corridor. The agent, presumably blind or near to it, started screaming at her and scrambling to pull Kara towards her.

In the front of the store, Special Agent Bolos heard the cry and held his sidearm ahead of him, moving towards the back hall.
