With Alex leading the way, the party of adventurers made they onward with haste. The jungle was once again quiet, no prelude to attack this time, but it seemed to be holding it's breath, waiting to see what would happen next. They weren't long into their journey when a single gunshot was heard nearby, followed by a series of cheers and rhymes. Glancing about, nobody had been hit. Clearly they weren't the targets. Erideth carefully made her way up the side of a ridge, which slowly rose up to one side as the the rest of them followed the terrain as it cut down into the valley. She was the first to see it. The titanic wreckage of the ship they were hunting was well camouflaged between the tangled mess of jungle which had begun to grow over it, and the soil it had thrown up on impact. Still, its shape was just too massive to remain unseen. The vessel lay on its belly, large sections of hull plating missing and a trail of rusting debris scattered behind it. She'd been through hell and come down hard. If that wasn't enough, the competition had already setup shop. Another ship sat silently nearby the wreckage, tiny by comparison, and clearly the one which had passed them earlier. Surrounding it were a dozen meandering dots, one of which seemed to be celebrating around the lifeless remains of a large beast. She was too far out to make them or hear anything, but she did spot four of them moving off and into the wreckage. |

Alex was careful about sneaking through the treeline until he found a fallen tree to kneel behind and watch the group of people who were trespassing on his turf as far as he was concerned. He whispered to Xavier once he was close enough. We don't want to damage the hull of the ship. She's an old bird and she's already going to be fragile enough. How many you think you can nail with a few grenades? |

Xavier peeked his head over the fallen tree and counted off, One grenade? Probably a half dozen... A few grenades probably a couple of dozen. He reaches his hand into his backpack and pulls out a rounded off explosive charge, I might be able to get this far enough to do damage to their ship though. The large man grinning ear to ear and rolling his shoulders, trying his hardest to hold back diabolical laughter. |

Alex grinned and nodded. I like how you think pal. Enough of a panic and we can pick 'em off in the confusion. He pulled his pistol clear of it's holster and checked to make sure it was loaded and cocked. Ready when you are. Let's given 'em hell. |

Erideth smiled to herself and waved down the two conversing men as she looked down at the group around the ship, shaking her head and saying, Don't hurt their ship. That's prime...we could sell it for a good penny, and we could haul more stuff with it to. That is, unless I decide to keep the ship. She looked like she was a kid in a candy shop...even as she pulled out her guns and hefted them for weight in an idle manner. |

The large man nodded to the small woman, Sure thing little lady, I'll do what I can. He handed Alex the detonator and smirked, You remember the drill? Without waiting for an answer the large man wound up and threw the ball of explosives down the hill towards the ship in a large arc, but before it hand the chance to land he lifted up his grenade launcher and fired a flash-bang grenade into the most crowded section of the insurgents on their prize. |

Alex accepted the detonator with a nod and a smirk. You know I do! He was less than surprised by Xavier's use of the grenade launcher. He waited just long enough for the package to reach the spot he thought would cause the most damage and pushed the trigger button. Without waiting for the explosion itself to go off he brought his pistol up and leveled it, taking aim at his targets before opening fire himself. |

Erideth grumbled something about Gorram long range fighting...rather be in there... as she lifted her guns as well and closed her eyes...waiting for the explosions to go off so that she could open them and begin firing without her eyesight being compromised. |

Dillon finished his odd victory dance around the beast he had downed. "Ya see? Ain't dirtside half an hour on this rock 'an already we're shown' 'em who's boss." he declared triumphantly, receiving a howl of approval from his fellow mercenaries. He opened his mouth to continue, but was cut off my a buzz in his ear. "When the hunter is nice and finished, maybe he can help out with some actual work?" asked a voice over the radio. "Roger." replied Dillon timidly over his headset before waving to a few of the others nearby. "Hey grunts, get your assess over…." Xavier's improvised ball of explosives sailed effortlessly through the air, bouncing once or twice before rolling to a stop close to the patrolling mercies. Two of them turned to look, just in time for the explosive to throw them backwards through the air and against the hull of the crashed ship with a bone cracking thud. The valley briefly shook, and flocks of resting birds took off into the air. A second explosion of light and disorientation landed closer, blinding those remaining who had turned to see the source of the explosion. Alex rose above the cover of the tree and sent a few carefully aimed shots at the mercies below as the milled around aimlessly, and in response two faceless men fell to the ground. The other Alex followed suit but wasn't so lucky, as his shots just drove the men to cover. One of them steady their rifle and popped out from cover, only for the side of helmet to explode as a carefully timed shot from Erideth found its home. DIllon dived for cover behind their ship, panic ripping though every bone in his body. "Sagre, we're under fire, unknown contacts, got men down, rockets and snipers and…" he paused, catching his breath as the high pitched whine of small arms fire whizzed nearby. ",,,,,hell I dunno what else." He ended the transmission and waited, but there was no reply. |

Xavier rose over the tree and exclaimed, Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. as he fired another flash grenade into the scattering mercenaries with a cackle of delight. He looked over his shoulder at the other three, Alright Ladies! Let us take what we came for! he shouted in a tone meant only to be heard to those he's with while rushing down the side of the hill repeatedly launching grenades at their enemies, not caring which of his arsenal he is using to take down those who would go for his friends payout. |

Alex was quick to follow suit, launching himself over the trunk of the tree, firing shots now and then when his footing was stable enough to at least attempt to aim. Upon reaching the valley floor he'd launched himself at the nearest, still standing, mercenary ramming his fist squarely into the man's face. Mow 'em down! I am NOT losing my contract over a bunch of dumb thugs! |

Now this was Erideth's time to shine. She smiled a happy smile and hopped from her cover, keeping her own jacket protecting her most vulnerable bits as she quickly closed the distance with the men. One gun slipped away only to be replaced with a knife...then she gleefully entered the fray herself. Erideth didn't mind shooting people, or stabbing. What she did do mostly was shoot for kneecaps, or cut up gun arms...that way there'd be prisoners to question after. |

Grinning at how excited Erideth was about charging into the fray like that, Xavier laughed, slipping his brass knuckles on and slipping his goggles over his eyes before charging in to join the small woman, I like the way you work! The big man tackling a mercenary that was trying to sneak up on Erideth and pummelling his foe across the ribs, once that foe is subdued the big man moving to the next person to fear the wrath of his brute force. |

Feeling the man's nose crunch wetly from the force of the blow, Alex watched with a satisfied grin as the man landed on the ground, out cold. Xavier and Erideth seemed to have everything well under control outside so Alex seized the chance and made for the breach in the wrecked ship's hull where the other men had entered. I'm going in! You two finish up out here! Without waiting for a response he ducked inside, weapon drawn. Edited by Khei, Dec 27 2012, 02:23 PM.

Erideth gave a little grumble at Alex slipping inside the downed ship, but didn't want to leave a potential 'getaway vehicle' manned by people she couldn't at lease have a say with. She let him slip past and into the ship as she turned and shot a man in the hand for lifting a gun towards the man's back. Leave some of these Go tsao de purple-bellys alive, we need someone to question. |

A fist flies towards the face of one of the men that Erideth and Xavier were fighting as he looks at the smaller woman and tenses at her words, NIEN MOHN!? The large man nearly foaming at the mouth as he grabs a man by the face for reaching for a gun to aim at Erideth and squeezed tightly, then throwing the smaller man towards one of the men that Xavier had just recently pummelled that was trying to get back to his feet. In a fit of blood thirsty rage the bald bear of a man started throwing anything, or anyone he could around, fists, barrels, crates, people, he didn't care, just as long as he wasn't aiming at the small woman that was with him he was fine with the results. Grunts and snarls escaping his lips as he slammed one of the insurgents towards the haul of the downed ship and repeatedly punched the man in the face with his brass knuckles on under his gloves, KUH WU CHWEN G’EN HO TZE BI DIO SE DA SHING LA SE LA CH'WOHN TIAN!!! Fist smashing skull against metal with hard blows right to the face and barely leaving the man recognizable when the enraged Xavier finally let him drop. "Alliance!?" Outside the wreckage, Erideth and Xavier cut a swath through the unprepared mercenaries. Bursts of gunfire danced along the ground as the soldiers turned on each other and opened fire on where their targets had just been. As another fell to friendly fire, a particularly large fellow thudded forward, a huge, automatic machine gun in both hands. Before him Xavier dodged the swing of a bayonet before returning the favour with a round to the back of the offenders head. The large man growled with pleasure and raised the weapon, following his target carefully as the man moved around him in a large circle. He smiled again, a little dribble of blood running from his mouth. Glancing down he saw nothing, but nonetheless dropped the rifle to the ground before falling to his knees. Behind him stood the outline of Erideth, bloodied knife in hand, the mans back now filled with a flurry of knife wounds. Job done, she moved away and after Alex, into the wreckage of the ship. Behind them all, the other Alex continued to give them some cover fire. It only took a minute or so, but by the time they were finished not a single merc remained standing, just a collection of bloody, crumpled, armoured bodies, their weapons strewn about the place. The plan had worked, and the landing craft sat nearby, undamaged. Meanwhile, Alex strode past the chaos outside, straight through the gunfire and into the wreckage unfazed. The mercs had torched a large hole into the side of the vessel, which after passing through a metre or so of severed pipes and wires, joined up with a large corridor at an odd angle. The ship was on its belly, but at a bit of angle, with the aft of the corridor appearing lower than the other side. The effect mixed with the general lack of indoor lighting was a little disconcerting at first. As he made his way down the corridor, following the dusty trail of boot prints, Alex came to a split in the hall. To one side a blocked doorway, debris had collapsed from overhead to block any progress forward. He leaned forward to check the other direction, only to have his curiosity rewarded with gunfire. Missing him by inches, the shots briefly echoed around the empty ship as he popped back into cover. "Nah ah ah. You sit your ass back down." came a chuckling, aged voice from down the corridor. His voice dropped off as he muttered something into a hand held radio strapped to his chest with an excited smile. He leaned out once more and fired blindly down the corridor with a wild hearty laugh. Edited by Grav, Jan 1 2013, 03:47 AM.

Outside the wreckage, Xavier turned around and let out a roar no oppoenents wear left standing. He turned to the other Alex and waved. "Do try and keep up." he said with a grin and headed moved quickly into the opening in the side of the ship. Further inside Alex waved over to an approaching Erideth, motioning to indicate there was someone up ahead. The pair of them raised their pistols slowly before stepping out and levelling at....nothing. The mercenary had vanished, the distant echoes of combat boots on deck plating could be heard for a moment before the much louder sound of approaching boots could be heard. Xavier and Alex appeared behind them, quickly lowering their weapons as they recognised their companions. "They're pulling back." said Erideth with a grin. Alex pulled out his GPS unit, consulting it for a moment. "Less than fifty metres away?." he asked, looking up with a smile. "Let 'em." He turned on the spot, making his way further down the long corridor. The rest of the adventurers followed him, down the corridor and through a wide set of unsealed, cargo bay doors. What they stepped into was a huge open room with dozens of large columns stretching from floor to ceiling. Attached to these was thousands of dark grey crates, no two the same size. Alex was a few metres ahead of them, looking up and around before letting a low whistle. Xavier stepped up behind him and sniffed the air. Erideth approached one of the columns, looking up its length before glancing over to Alex. "Is this going to take long?" But Alex wasn't even listening. His mind was lost in the thought of what other mysteries these sealed crates might have. The jars? For sure. But if the rest of this old ships cargo was still intact, who knew what other treasures she had in store. It was almost too good to be true. In the background Xavier took a few steps away and toward one of the other columns. "Do we even know which one it is?" asked Alex, pushing against one of the magnetically locked crates. His reply was low, Xavier couldn't quite hear as he moved off and around one of the large columns of crates. Following its straight angles, he turned right with it and paused. Glancing right, he spotted the unmistakeable figures of a digital clock face. It appeared to be paused, lucky he mused. Suddenly the normal flow of time resumed, and the seconds began ticking down again. Fuck. 212 quickly turned to 211. Looking sideways at the device, Xavier smiled knowingly, reaching out and swiftly pulling one of the wires out. The countdown continued. This however was fine, as it would now have no effect whatsoever on the explosives. Pulling the now lifeless charge from the side of a crate, Xavier quickly turned around and headed back to his companions. Their now raised voices could be heard as he turned around the column to the three of them arguing. "You've got..." Xavier paused, glancing down to what was in his hand "....193 seconds." he said loudly, interrupting the passionate conversation. The three of them turned to him, giving him an unimpressed glare as he approached. "Hey, I'm no miracle worker." began Alex, raising his hands with a grin before trailing off suddenly as Xavier raised the disarmed charge into sight. "It's safe." he said quickly as Erideth and the other Alex glanced toward the large doorway they'd entered from. One of them let out a quick sigh. "At least, this one is." he then added, pointing to a large crudely drawn figure 8 on the front of it. The clock on it's face ticked to 175." The party of adventurers quickly glanced to the entrance, then to one another, before looking to the charge once more. Erideth was the first to begin running toward the exit, Alex Guirnan was next to follow, briefly stopping to turn and shout back to them "C'mon!" before continuing on. Alex however, remained where he'd been standing, with a grim look on his face. "But..." he offered his friend, looking up at the rows of sealed crates. Placing the dud charge on a crate, Xavier took a step toward Alex and shook his head. "Not worth it." he said simply. Erideth was already halfway down the corridor when she heard the echo of following footsteps. She quickly excited the wreckage, carefully making her way back outside where the scene remained as gruesome as they'd left it. A few hundreds metres off sat the light transport craft the mercs had used to get there. She took a few steps toward it before turning to spot Alex running after her, full tilt. The young woman sped past her and continued sprinting away from the wreckage. Probably a good idea she thought to herself, and continued off after her. They were at least a hundreds metres out when the spotted Alex and Xavier making their way out of the hole on the side of the wreckage, and running toward them. Inside the ship, three other screens reached 0. Three low thumps followed, the wreckage behind them whined for a few long seconds before silencing again. Alex and Xavier turned while running and looked back, slightly unimpressed. Their pace slowed a little as they continued on toward the small ship. Moments later, four more screens inside the ship reached 0. Back outside two points on either side of the rear of the ship disappeared into brilliant flashes of white, as whatever remained of the ships fuel tanks detonated. The blast wave through the two running adventurers off their feat, as Erideth and Alex turned away and shielded their eyes from the explosion. When next they looked, everything from the midsection of the ship down was now tangle of twisted, melted steel and burning jungle. TO BE CONTINUED |
