Xavier launches the grenade into the mass of spiders and not waiting for it to hit before turning to the other three, Well what in the verse are you waiting for!? Find us some shelter then. He grinned a bit and slipped the launcher back into his jacket and quickly pulled out a small parcel with wires attached to it (Pre-set mining charge), along with a radio transmitter. Throwing the parcel towards the trees and yelling, We need to make fifty yards or we'll be humped too! |

There's nothing but jungle all around save for that path and cliff back there. If you've got some plan missy now's the time to execute it. Alex didn't know what the deal was with the spiders but he was willing to assume they were poisonous by the reaction by the newest face. |

Erideth still hadn't fired, though glanced towards the cliff, and where she stashed her duffle bag just inside the tree line near there, hoping that no spiders were advancing from there yet. With a grumble she said, I'd suggest jumpin' off the cliff, but... she trailed off as she realized what the big guy did...giving a little curse. She started moving...spiders or no to go grab her bag, stepping on some if need be as she moved towards the cliff. You gorram...Over th' edge if that thing's gonna blow! That should convince 'em we're too much of a threat. |

You have any idea just how far down that is? Holstering his gun to free up a hand, Alex pulled a line of rope from his sack and threw the sack onto his back before running to the cliff and tying the rope around the nearest, sturdiest looking tree, using the rest of the rope to swat away any spiders that might already be there. Once finished he tossed the rest of the rope over the ledge. Better hope this is long enough. Everyone know how to climb down a rope? If you don't you're sure going to learn. A small explosion of light nearby blinded any looking its way. For a brief second the surrounding jungle was lit up, revealing tier upon tier of creature, huddled tightly together amongst the trees. It was hard to tell where one ended and another began. What was certain was this. They were big, they didn't look particularly friendly, and they had the adventurers surrounded. Xavier's package rolled into the tress, before floating up out of sight as if guided by some invisible wire. The rustling could now be made out for what it truly was, a low, continuous clicking noise. The rope that had been thrown over the edge disappeared into the night below, flailing wildly as it failed to make contact with anything. The few small insects from early scurried by the party and made their way over the edge. Edited by Grav, Nov 16 2012, 07:47 AM.

Erideth slung her bag over her shoulder and took a hold of the rope, slinging it around her back to support her as she slipped off the edge of the cliff...hoping that no one fell on her. She didn't care about the little spiders so much, kicking a couple off the wall as she started to slide down out of the path of the explosion that would be coming from the trees. |

Guirun pulled out her gun and slung her pack across her back. So far she hadn't seen many of the spider things, but given the noise they were making she didn't really want to. Making sure she didn't fall over the edge she backed up to nearer the rope and the others, just as Erideth lent back off the cliff and hoped the explosion wasn't to big. Why couldn't things just have gone smooth? |

Xavier looked over at his old friend with a smirk, Ready for the big boom? He held up the detonator in one hand and got down on his stomach at the very edge of the cliff and held onto the rope, wrapping it around his wrist as best he could. |

Erideth couldn't do much more but slide down the rope some to give the others room, glancing down to see what was on the bottom of the cliff...and not looking forwards to taking a dunk in the water. She stopped after giving enough room for everyone else, and then a little more...watching out for any spiders crawling too close so she could kick them away and into the water. |

Below Erideth the rope dropped down out of sight into the murky darkness, the only sound which echoed back were their own voices and the sounds of rushing water. To make matters worse, the cliff face before them grew further away with each inch. It seems they'd chosen to make their way down from a particularly dangerous ledge, lucky them. Overhead their attackers began to move. The snaps of breaking branches and groans of their trunks as the overhead canopy appeared to close in overhead. |

Xavier slips his legs over the edge, barely peeking over the ledge at the spiders, so many spiders before him. A smirk and another cackle of laughter escapes his mouth as he presses the trigger on his detonator while hanging onto the rope with a death grip. He looks down and shouts, FIRE IN THE HOLE!!!! trying to duck his head beyond the ledge as the parcel a full mining charge explodes violently and throwing flames over his head. |

The flames rushed over the cliff edge, and into the murk of night above the heads of the scavenging party. Guirun picked herself off the floor where the explosion had deposited her. Well, so much for that camp site. |

The blast from the explosion swept through the clearing and out over the adventurers, throwing a hail of dirt and arachnid limbs in every direction. Fire clung to the bark of the drier trees, burning with an unsual intensity as it mixed with the spiders blood. There was no sign of their attackers as the sounds of clicking retreated into the night. As the adventures looked over the scorched remains of their would be campsite, their attention was drawn to a large tree, around which Alex had tied their rope. As Guirun spoke, the fire slowly crept down its side toward the ground, the tree groaned in complaint. Without warning it twisted and began its long fall to ground, away from the adventurers, behind it the ground burst open, ancient roots exposing themselves for the first time in centuries and throwing any standing nearby off their feet. It fell in slow motion, tearing through anything which dared get in its way with ease. Hitting the ground with an earth shaking thud, it caused a low rumble which could be felt before it was heard. It continued for a second before stopping abruptly. What sounded like a smaller, second explosion shook the adventurers from below, as the ground split below their feet and tumbled sideways. As they fell into the unknown darkness below, grabbing at passing clumbs of dirt and broken roots, the sound of rushing water below grew more intense by each second until - silence, darkness. Fade to black. --------------------------------- A light grew overhead. The first to awake was Erideth, she lay on her back staring up at the early morning sky, the sun breaking over the horizon in the distance and helping to light her surroundings. She was soaked to the bone, sideways against her belongings in a particularly shallow stretch of water, where the river widened to fill a flood plain. Sitting up she spotted her new comrades scattered around her, unconscious. |

Erideth opened her eyes slowly at first, then sat up suddenly. She took a few deep breaths, then gave a quiet curse. She slipped her bag off her shoulder, took her pistols out and unloaded the ammo so that it would dry out, putting everything up away from the water before she looked at her downed 'colleagues'. After a minute or so, letting herself dry a little, she cursed softly. She could just leave them to whatever was out here, taking their things...but to be honest, she could use the manpower. She walked over to Alex, the one who seemed the most reasonable to her. She gave the guy a little kick in the side...not to hurt him, but to wake him up. Get up. We got away... She looked around a little, trying to get her bearings in reference to the downed ship. |

Looking around Erideth soon realized where they were. In the distance a sheer cliff ran jaggedly along the horizon, the trees thinning out as the ground disappeared below them. A huge waterfall cascaded down one side, forming a deep river below which hugged the base of the cliff until it eventually shallowed out and seeped harmlessly into the jungle. Behind them the the water lapped against a small edge of rocks, roots jutting out between the cracks as the a few trees sprouted close by, behind them the jungle loomed once more. Whatever miracle had carried them downstream also had the kindness to bring them deeper into the jungle. Overhead a formation of birds circled, eyeing up the rest of the motionless adventurers. |

Groaning, Guirun's eyelids split, letting the light flood her senses. Sitting up she glance around. Erideth was already up, well at least she hadn't run off, but the rest of the party looked like they were still out for the count. Heaving herself to her feet, Guirun checked her equipment, and pulled a bar of food from a pocket, deep inside her coat. Starting to eat, she pulled a map out of her pack to try and workout just where they had wound up. |

Erideth gave a little harumph as Guirun started checking a map, feeling a little naked with her guns pulled apart and drying on her stuff while the other girl was awake. She shook her head as she pointed out, We just followed th' river deeper into th' jungle, oddly enough th' whole explosion thing helped us out in th' end...provided these two are still alive and able to carry stuff. |

With a pained groan, Alex started pulling himself up into a sitting position. He winced and moaned, rubbing his head and face before checking if everything was still attached and in working order. Surprised to find little more than bumps, bruises, and a few minor cuts, Alex took a moment to take in the new surroundings. I'll be gorram humped if that isn't one of the luckiest falls I've had. Checking his pistol, he grumbled under his breath, following Erideth's lead by unloading and allowing it to dry out. He stood up and looked back toward the cliff they had been hanging from the night before. Well. We got down here. Maybe not by the most graceful of means but.. He trailed off as he moved to Xavier's side and gave him a bit of a shake on the shoulder. Hey Pal. Time to rise an shine. No sleeping in on the job. |

As he lay there on the ground, snoring like a chainsaw, he wakes abruptly when Alex shakes him back to reality, Damn it warden you touch me again... He looks up and gives Alex a look, Oh, right, so we're alive right? |
