Dugan answered Khei's question before he could, but Mike still found room for explanation. "Not wrong." He lent his head to the side and shook it, finally managing a shrug. "I'm just surprised is all." "And what are the chances of us being the ones asked to pick up Bal-bius up there." There was a clear moment where he had tried to amalgamate Tobius's name in his head. "This is Suspicion City." Taking a fancy to the analogy, Becker immediately felt the need to add more. "Which has it's own little Bad News Boulevard which we're rolling into right now." And he couldn't resist. "Not to mention Trouble..." His mouth was formed for a t sound but he couldn't find a word to fit the slot. Finally defeat was admitted. "...I should have left it." Becker found himself a clear wall on the bridge, to lean his back against. His brain had whipped something up by then. "All I'm saying is we should try and stay in carefulville." He looked between Ian and Khei, judging reactions. "Too much? It's too much ain't it?" He nodded in agreement with himself. |

Khei couldn't help but chuckle a bit at Mike. Well suspicious, I can understand. 'Verse is a big place so prolly a might too convenient t' be a co-winki-dink but how much trouble can come from hitchin' a ride for a guy y'all know? As soon as she finished her sentance, she regretted it. Memories of the day before flooded back. Freddy had always been a might loose in the brainpan but she had considered him a friend before she had thought he was dead. The entire team were friends back then. So much could change in just a small span of time. Er. Um. Anyways. Looks like everything's shiny here. If y'all dun need me to do anythin' I think I otta head to my bunk for a spell. Need to get t' buildin' a new computer anyway. |

Observation Deck There had always been something about watching the field of stars move and change as a ship moved in the black. It had always captured Trina's attention and held it. Having discovered the observation deck in her short exploration of the Glory, Trina had well before departure determined she would be here to watch, barring the captain or crew needing her for something else. Even before coming down, she'd placed her guitar in the room. Now that the ship was underway, she sat, relaxed and fingers idly pulling a tune from the battered guitar. The song was exceptionally soft, so quiet that one might even have to be in the room to hear it. Mentally, Trina was going through a mental checklist of her personal stores of supplies. She'd spot checked the medbay and had found it well stocked. As the stars moved in her field of view, a thought struck Trina and her fingers stopped playing. Although she wasn't exactly a master chef, she could definitely manage a decent meal, assuming there were the supplies needed. Standing, she put away her guitar and made a quick pass by her room to drop it off before finally making her way to the kitchen. |

Mike didn't have to say anything, from the expression on her face she knew that those words could betray her. Becker came away from the wall. "Well I'm here to put a stop on any trouble that comes down this road." Becker was still loosely hanging onto his analogy. He moved to the front of the bridge by Ian. "And Ian's right. Ba... Tobias... is a handy man to have around, especially in cases of trouble." When he's not causing trouble. "Bet we've gotta a hella lot of catchin' up to do." He spoke while gazing at the picture on the view screen once more. Becker turned back to hear Khei take her leave. "Alright. Take it easy." He subsequently planted himself in a free chair on the bridge. |

Ian listened and smiled as the talk of a town became the metaphor of the day. As Mike sat down he looked over at him "Do we ever get ta travel down the Free and Easy highway" His smiled glinted in his eyes and then turned serious. "You remember that question I asked you when you first came on board?" It was a retorical question, Ian knew that Mike did. "I finally got around ta askin it again. It's been awhile. Most crew I've had hadn't stayed with me long enough ta ask." |

Khei made her way down to the room she'd chosen and flopped onto the bunk, pulling her pack onto it as well, and began rummaging through it, pulling out the parts, wires, and circuit boards she needed. During the repairs, many things had just been removed and replaced rather than repaired. Seemed to her that was a sorry waste of electronics so she sifted through and saved what she thought would be useful in building herself a new computer. Now she had some spare time to do so. She began laying out the parts she was going to use for the moment and left a space in the event someone paid her a visit. She knew that sooner or later Ian would want her answer. Not that she really had to think about it. If it hadn't been for them, she'd still be back on the station starving to death. Or worse. She set into work, disconnecting bad circuits and soddering in new ones, connecting wires where she needed them, and finding a way to implement the larger processor without making the computer too unweildy. Anyone looking in on her would swear she looked almost like an artist at work on a painting, almost as if working with electronics was an art form in of itself. |

Mike released a content chuckle as Dugan mentioned the famous question. "I always loved that. I mean you gotta hand it to Corso, the whole thing was right on the money." Becker couldn't help but glide back to his being asked the question, then to the many others he'd seen tackle the question over the years. "So did she answer straight away, or did she actually wait?" It was a point on a common occurrence with the question. Even when Dugan had added the modifier, most people were keen to put down an answer before they had time to really consider what it asked of them. |

Bridge Ian smiled back. "She hasn't answered yet. She's a smart one. She'll answer right. Even if she answeres that she cant yet, I'll still treat her fair. Just like I have all the others. ..." He paused of a moment as he looked back to the stars ahead. "I think only Tyler Lyndon answered that he couldn't or wouldn't for the crew. I named him 'passenger' and he didn't cotton ta that too much. Next thing I know Reese has her throat slit with Tyler slinkin off like the Feh-Feh Pi-Gu he is ..." Dark thoughts came to him for a few moments. Memories of marking Tyler and of hearing how part of him ended up in some other man's body Poor fellow having ta care part of Lyndon like that. "Wont let that happen ta Khei though. It was a promise he intended to keep. |

Mike was staring out into the black with content for his current situation, the softest of smiles on his face as he did so. That all ended when he heard the name Tyler Lyndon. It was like an alarm bell in his head that sent a hot flush through his body. His chest tightened at the thought and he couldn't held but hold his breath. Dugan recited the highlights of that event, not that Becker needed a reminder. He continued staring ahead, images running through his head. First on the scene was a tough place to be, supporting her back to med-bay was a poignant memory too. How feelings had then developed for Reese made his dislike for Tyler even stronger. And with Reese departing due to the danger she saw on Glory, a constant reminder at her throat, he could stick the blame of losing her squarely on Lyndon's shoulders. Finally Michael looked down, his memories defeating him. Sitting on the bridge with nothing but his thoughts was an uncomfortable situation, he felt a need to busy himself. "Doesn't bare thinking about." A slight of anger resided in his tone. He then quickly raised from the seat and removed himself from the bridge, searching for an activity to consume him onboard. |

Ian nodded in agreement as Mike got up and left. He was left alone, but smiled anyway. On a ship like the Glory, one was never alone. He glimpsed a female figure with gleeming red hair, bright green eyes and a wonderful smile. He knew she was not there in the flesh, having died almost a decade ago, but he accepted her presence anyway. Soon, Death herself arrived and set to his right, the red haired beauty on his left. Next came the personifacation of the Glory in all her splinder. She stood behind them. All four of the current occupants of the bridge looked out on the stars, each lost in their own thoughts for a time. The quiet was comfortable to all. It was broken only once. "I smell some'um good. I wonder who's cookin?" |

The rest of the trip to Peresphone, one that took the majority of the coming fortnight, went by uneventfully. The new, makeshift crew of the Glory got to knowing one enough, ironing out the ships kinks as they went. Lucian's crew had pulled the old girl from retirement with style, but she wasn't top of the line just yet. Only time would tell what she would be capable of this time around. Ian and his crew found themselves in the dining area almost two weeks later. Ship time put them during the 'night' time of their cycle, and dinner was to be served. On the planet, though, which was only five or six hours away, they would be arriving in the early AM. |

"Just one sleep away." Mike was looking at Ian, but everyone in the room could hear him and anyone would know by now that he was friendly enough to let anyone in the conversation. With regards to one sleep away, Becker was referencing their arrival and the pick up of an old friend. "Think it'll be simple." Becker was cradling a beer as he spoke, fidgeting with the bottle. He put a tilt on the container, and rolled it back and forth on it's bottom edge. "Think he'll waltz on this ship the second we land with greatest of ease." His tone was clear, it spoke his thought on the subject, it said I doubt it. Bal may have changed his name, but if he still got into half as much trouble as he used to, then the party they were heading was sure to be interesting. Real interesting. |

It had been two weeks since they had dusted off from the Baroness. Two weeks and they had all taken turns at cooking. He still thought that he was best at breakfast, not sayin that his breakfast was the best ... In the two weeks with his crew, he had thought about mentioning his visions, delusions more like it, of seeing these ... embodiments. Death and the Glory herself. LurLean was the only person he kept seeing. LurLean Jorgensen had been a passenger on the Glory a time or two. She had a thing for the captain. She had told him that on the last cruise she had been on before she died. It was like something out of a holovid drama. The first time Ian had spoken to her was to ask for a higher fare as she weighed more than three hundred and seventy pounds and fuel was at a primeum. He had felt bad doing it and he told her so. At first she was angry and was about to protest, until she looked at Ian. He had told her that to make up for the trouble he had just caused, her next trip would be at half price, no matter what. She smiled, but the smile did not reach her eyes. She thanked Ian and said that it would not be necessary and paid the extra fare. She was about to put it all from her mind when Ian had told her that is was necessary and that it would give him more time to make that polite smile she had just given him a real one. Ian remembered that she had only lifted an eye brow in her expansive face and accepted his challenge. He had spent the whole of that trip and the next trying to make her smile. He was unsuccessful, but he kept trying and she kept coming back. The friendship that grew from that moment became a strong one. In two years time LurLean had lost two hundred pounds because she had felt like it. Her face was no longer expansive but had retained its expressiveness, helpped by her green eyes. Her frame became more solid than just thin. she had gone from overweight to fit and firm. She had also fallen for the good captain. On her last trip with them, on the catwalk above the main Cargo bay, she had managed to get Ian alone and give him a hug. She would have kissed him had Ian not stopped her. She professed her love for him and he said that he could not love her. That he could not love anyone as he had felt that he was nothing but trouble. She left the ship half way through her paid trip, getting off on Persephone. She was killed later that evening, on her way back to the ship. The Glory had broke atmo just minutes before. Ian found out about it years later when her diary had been found and his name was in it. He had been seeing her ever since. He was brought back to the here and now by Mike's statement.
Ian smiled. "Knowing Bal ... prolly not. He paused a moment "We'll have to call him Tobias so we might as well get used to it, until he says otherwise, anyway." He took a bite and looked over to Kehi "You never did tell us how you got so wet on a space station, back on that first day. Edited by ian dugan, Sep 13 2012, 04:03 PM.

Khei smiled a forced smile. She had almost forgotten about the events on the Baroness. She rolled the subject around in her head a bit to figure out the best way to tackle it. Once she'd made up her mind she sighed, her eyes seemed to glaze over, recounting the memory as if it weren't her own. It'd be hard to tell it without startin' at the beginin' so I spose I otta do jus' that. Years back, I was a member of a group of hackers. Best of the best. Dunno if y'all ever heard 'bout the mass blackout on Ariel, but that was us. Anyway. There was this one kid, Freddy. Bit loose in the brainpan but he was one of us. Alliance planted a mole in our lil' team an' mucked us up good. Most never knew what hit em. Me an' four others managed to escape with our lives. We all figured everyone else fer dead. Well Evidently Ol' Freddy turned up not so dead back on the Baroness. Had me figured for dead couple times. trappex me in th' compactors an' when I got outta that mess he tried t' drown me. An' that's how I got all wet. Finally got outta that an' found myself on th' business end of Freddy's gun. Tied me up, took my computer, and set a gorram bomb, the loon. Managed t' get loose and disarm the piece of gos se but never saw Freddy again. Found my way back t' the bar an' y'all know th' rest. Her eyes regained thrir sharpness, like a cat having spotted a mouse after waking from a nap, and spoke directly to Ian, not in an aggressive or intimidating manner but with an air of hardened resolve. So to answer yer question from before, Boss, I can tell you yes. Unquestionably, yes. I only hope that I'll never need t' prove it. Or that anyone else'd have t' prove it neither. |

Michael listened. to Khei's tale, eyes wide and his mouth agape at times. In what had thought to be a short and innocent adventure, in spite of a little wetness, Khei had found an interesting experience. He was surprised by the hazard she had encountered, not expecting such activties to be in Khei's life, not from the look of her. Just like most people in the 'verse, she was more than meets the eye. "I bet Bal beats it," Mike remarked and, like a robot being turned on, he began moving and showing more life again. He held himself for a second, holding his finger up to indicate a realisation, before he corrected himself. "Tobias." Feeling slightly guilty for giving Bal a bashing in the conversation, Becker moved on. He took a chuck of food on his fork and lent over to Trina. He whispered, "you know, Ian think he's got it down on his cooking front, but I've much preferred your meals. I'm thinking we get another doctor and push you for ship's cook." He grinned at her before leaning back, taking a bit of his meal. |

Trina was quiet, listening to the talk of someone by the name of Tobias and had come up more than once since the ship had departed from the Baroness. However, the story Khei had to tell was an eye opener to say the least. She'd heard about the business on Ariel Khei made reference too, but never in a million years had she expected to be sitting in the same room with one of the 'culprits'.The sudden whispered suggestion from Mike made a smile try to spread over Trina's face and she looked first to Mike and then glanced to Ian. Her attempt at taming the smile was a poor one, and it was the first smile that actually reached her eyes since coming on board. "I think I'd be a bit overpaid for a cook, don't you?" she whispered back, chuckling softly. |

Ian listened to the tale as it unfolded before him. He nodded his head at the end of it. "Welcome Aboard Khei. Next time you have a bomb to disarm, contact me. I was Demolitions during the war. He took another bite "Thanks for not lettin us go boom on the Baroness. Ian smiled back in Trina's direction at her comment on being overpaid as a cook "I think we're all a mite underpaid as it is. And for a fact, this is the best ... whatever it is ..." He winked and continued. "... that I've ever had. What is it anyway." He tipped his fork this way and that in an exagerated manner as it to look at the food on it from all directions to examin it better, smiling all the while. The quiet chuckle that Trina had been trying to hide grew more audible, her smile growing with it. The way Ian looked at the forkful he had almost had her wondering he was being facetious or serious. "It's a simple casserole is all. Nothing all that fancy. I could probably teach it to any of you, but I'd wager we'd get tired of the same meal over and over." Her own plate was empty save for one last bite, which she finished off. Had anyone paid much attention, the serving she'd given herself was less than half of what the others ate, but having cooked the meal, she'd done a little sampling for taste, so she truly hadn't been all that hungry. "As to being underpaid, if there aren't any injuries on board, I can say without a doubt I'm overpaid. Which is why, I don't mind picking up more duties, such as the cooking and clearing of the dishes afterwards." Pushing her plate back, Trina laced her fingers together and then propped her chin up on her joined hands. "Though I wonder if that luck will hold. You do talk of this Tobias as if he's a bit of a handful. The somewhat hushed, reverent tones and all." Her smile grew a little cheeky, but there was a serious undertone that she was already planning ahead. "Should I look into overstocking the medical bay, sir?" |

"Casserole. That's what I thought it was." He took the bite in an over the top manner that he almost choked as he laughed at himself. He thought a moment or two about her question on over stocking the Med Bay. "Might not be such a bad idea. We do have a history I'm afraid." He finished his plate, stood, and as had been his practice these last two weeks of travel, washed up his dishes. "Folks, I'm gonna check things on the bridge and do a tour. Mike, relieve me in an hour's time. I still think it best to keep someone awake at all times ... just in case." Just before he left then room he added, "Get as much rest as you can, tomorrow comes early and with it, Tobias Hawke." He left the room and made his way to the bridge first. |

The dull glow of lights on the bridge offered no spectacular change of affairs. The flight log read as to be expected: time of arrival was just over four and half hours away. The time flew by quickly, though - the Captain had barely checked over the instruments when Becker relieved him. A couple of hours later, the Glory was approaching Persephone. Port control contacted them, guiding the ship in without fuss, and the planet of Persephone engulfed their view as the Glory slowly descended down to the Eavesdown Docks. |
