Though it rarely felt any difference on The Baroness, the station operated on planetside time. As the crew of the Glory made their final preparations for launch, it was morning on the nearby planet Verbena, and Bruno (courtesy of their new business associated, Lucian Hollows) had provided the crew with a private, gourmet breakfast. Now, in the docking bay, the small crew prepared for launch as Ian waited impatiently just outside the cargo bay for Lucian himself, who was half an hour late for their final words. |

Glory was back in tip top shape again and Mike was glad to see her again. As he walked the halls and went from room to room, he couldn't help but smile at the sight of her being whole again. Now she was in this condition, it really sunk that Becker was back and in being back, he couldn't think of anywhere else he'd rather be. Where he was now was the cargo bay, guns at his waist, keeping watch in case trouble came to Glory. Though it would have get past Ian first, still this was his job. Who knew, maybe they's get another young girl trying to sneak her way onto the ship, perhaps even the same one. When they were out in the black he'd have less to worry about. |

Lucian was true to his word. In a matter of hours, his crew had gotten what it would have taken him and his days to accomplish. He stood outside the ship and waited for the man himself and thought back to the Bar. He had left Trina at the bar of the Bar with Bruno and dashed to the bathroom. He really had to go .... Coming out he had walked to the table and found the group already in conversation and abpout to leave. He saw Khei's state of dress and noted the visibility og her underthings through her shirt. He took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. "There must be a tale in the current condition of your state of dress. You can tell us later, if you'd like. Keep this until we get back to the ship. Less likely to cause a fuss." In the hours since Lucian's repair team had left, Ian spent some of it in the Bridge, installing his own security programs and encryptions. These were to the most vital areas of the ship's command programming. He had directed Khei to add her own layer of encryption as well, leting her know that he knew a thing or two in the hacker areana as well. As he talked with her, gauging her experience and some of her ability, finding out that she probably knew more than he in some areas, he got around to the big question. "Khei, there's something I need to ask you." He looked pointedly at her "Dont answer now. Answer tomorrow, or just before we get underway, but not now." Once he was sure she understood he continued. "I ask this of everyone that wants to be crew. The answer makes the distinction between actual crew and passenger status." He paused "Would you give your life for everyone else on board? To give them a chance? Mike would. I would. That includes you and the Doc as well." He paused again. "Think it over as you finish up here." That had been hours ago. Now, he waited to be back in the Black. |

Trina had to admit, the ship was very nice compared to the last few she'd served on. Granted, the Glory had just undergone a bit of an overhaul. Still, the freshness made the ship seem brighter than all the others she'd been on over the last year. Something about it felt like... home. "Odd sentiment..." she murmured to herself as she entered the cargo hold, her usual jacket shed, long sleeves rolled up to her elbows and shoulder harness cradling her gun in place. She was in the process of pulling back her hair when she spotted Mike. Giving him a faint nod and a smile, her eyes wandered back to the ship around them rather easily. "No sign of our employer for this job?" Not that Trina knew exactly what the job was. She'd picked up enough to know that Lucian, whom she'd seen on the station more than once, was somehow involved. She wasn't exactly sure she liked that notion. |

Khei was as happy as she could be. She was finally clean and back into frwash clothes. Not that you could tell as her garb looked identical to the previous set. She was getting back to what she did best and that was enough to be content. Almost as if the whole adventure had been little more than a dream. She'd been impressed with the speed and efficientness of Lucian's team. She'd been equally impressed with Ian's own prowess with the computer systems. She had been especially tenacious about the security coding. She wanted to make sure the ship's systems couldn't be hacked into with any level of ease. She was particularly proud of the looping transfer system. It was simple enough, and simple was not something most hacker expected. Any attempt to hack into the system would send the hacker into a infinity loop. Even if thry managed to somehow get past that she still had two other systems to break through as well as Ian's. It had been especially difficult without the aid of her computer but the systems were as protected as she could make them. While she finished up with everything she'd thought back on Ian's question. A pained smile creeped across her face as she screwed the last panel back into place. If only you knew. Perhaps you will. Just not now. Get in the black first. She wandered through the ship, up to the cargo hold, wiping her hands with a small rag and took a position near Ian. Last panel's back in place. Dunno if even I could hack that system now... She looked around the hold and airlock before continuing. No sign of this Lucian guy yet, eh Boss? Edited by Khei, Sep 4 2012, 12:39 PM.

"He is."The voice was not Ians, but rather a deeper drone that came from outside the ship. Across the way, walking towards the airlock that connected the Glory to the Baroness, was Lucian and his entourage. A large man, the one who had spoken, led the way, a long black jacket trailing behind him. There were four of them in total, Lucian included, and they all appeared to be armed. Lucian gave everyone present a warm smile as he approached, stopping just in front of Ian as his small posse stood close by, giving off no signs of emotion. "Forgive my lateness, Captain. Matters needed my attention." He gestured to the cargo bay beyond their exchange. "I take it all is up to your standards? I told my people to be extra careful in their work." He didn't wait for a response, though - the man was clearly aware that Ian wasn't in a position to question to 'renovations'. "I just stopped by to bid you farewell, to check if you had any final requests before take off - that kind of thing. Or are you all set, Captain?" |

Michael perked up upon being addressed, kicked out of automatic mode and looked to the good doctor. "Ain't seen nothing as of yet." It was a little annoying in all honesty, Mike was itching to see Glory out in the black and be out in the black himself. Work to be done, a target to move towards, these were things that pleased Mike over hanging around and playing waiting games. Becker caught a glimpse of the gun held in Trina's shoulder holster, it caused him to double take then tilt his head like a curious dog. Two thoughts had struck him. The first being that she need not carry around a gun while onboard, there was an unlikelihood of trouble and he was hired to stamp out the likelihood. But some people like to be careful, and they weren't exactly safely space bound yet, so he let it slide. The second thought he aired. "A doctor with a gun." He smirked and looked away before looking back. "Don't those two kinda clash?" |

There was a conversation started just beyond the entrance to the ship, and a few more people than had been there when Trina had come into the hold. It was Mike's question that had her attention, despite her eyes lingering on the group outside the doors. "You aren't the first to ask, and I'd be willing to bet you won't be the last." She paused for a moment, her fingers tucked lightly into her pockets and her posture quite calm and relaxed. Her pale eyes finally looked to Mike as a look of quiet confidence spread across her face. "The black isn't exactly the safest place and a woman alone, as I've been before, doesn't always have a hero to save her when trouble rears its head. Luckily, it was a lesson I didn't have to learn first hand, but as a bystander. I've done my turn as a hired gun, but yes, my calling is on the healing side of the coin. I prefer it, but I'd rather not put a burden on my crewmates and always be the 'sweet damsel in distress', if you'll pardon the pun." Trina knew she wasn't a crack shot as so many in the black were. But at least, if push came to shove, she might at least be able to hold her own. Her smile grew a little as she shrugged and looked back towards the doors. "Besides, there are two sides to every coin..." she murmured softly, more to herself but loud enough for Mike to hear. |

As he waited, Ian thought back to the brackfast he had just finished. Lucian had provided them with an excellent meal to begin their day. But now ... he waited. Ian hated waiting, but he was good at it. It was better than waiting in an ambush for two days only to find out that the enemy had taken a different route. Pacing just outside the Cargo Bay in the primary Docking Bay, Ian was surprised at how clean the area was. All the boxes and cargo was loaded and still no sign of Lucian. Khei came to the airlock and looked out, rag in her hands.
He saw her look around and he nodded. He was glad to have her. "Not yet. But one thing I've learned about customers, they're never late. They're always on time. We're just a bit early is all. Now if he was here..."
Ian turned at the booming voice and saw four armed men coming out of the Primary Airlock to the cargo hold that Ian and Khei stood in. It was the presence of Lucien that stilled Ian hand from pulling both his weapons.
Ian nodded as Lucian continued.
"They did a nice job."
"Just the idenity of the passenger so we'll know we get the right person. Be a shame to go all that way and back only to find out we provided transport to the worng person. Ian smiled and waited |

"But of course, Captain. All the details needed, as well as contact details for my men here and on the planet, have been uploaded to your system. The passenger is an old associate of mine, nothing more. Tobias Hawke, his name is." The way Lucian spoke the name gave the Captains spine a sudden shiver for reasons beyond his understanding. It didn't ring a bell, but from all he had heard so far it seemed clear Lucian had details he chose to withheld. All employers did these days, it seemed. "Anything else then, Captain? Or shall I leave you to your duty?" Lucian hung on that last word, as if insinuating some premeditated expectation of Ian which he had not disclosed. |

Michael was worried as Trina began her explanation, concerned that he had invoked some troublesome memory that gave her reason to keep herself armed. He felt a quick moment of regret at mentioning it, it hadn't been his intention to bring up anything. With relief, Michael nodded as she continued and it appeared as though she had no issue with understanding the dangers of the 'verse. Mike actually found himself a little impressed, a subdued smile gracing his features as she went on. Seemed like Trina was a smart individual in terms of knew what it took to survive in the black, better then that she seemed to have what it took. Mike liked that. "Good to know," was his way of complimenting the personality she was portraying. The back of his mind asked of it was just a portrayal. The front of his mind said shut up, we're trying to talk here. "Well, If I may ask, and, feel free to hurl Chinese at me if you wanna keep it to yourself, but what knocked you on to doctoring?" He still found the medical job and the possession of a gun to be contradicting, or perhaps better described as something he hadn't often seen. |

Loading Dock "Tobias Hawke" Ian rolled the name around in his head. It didn't ring a bell, but he knew something was off based on what Lucian was not saying.
"No. I think that will cover it." He offered his hand. He'd wash the slime off later, he thought. "Thank you for getting us back in the Black, Lucian." He turned and entered his ship going to the bridge. He did not stop as he walked through the Cargo bay but spoke as he went. "Get the lead out folks, we're outta here in ten." Getting to the bridge he started the preflight check. While it was running he pulled up the information on their passenger. Seeing the face from the capture in the file of the person of interest, he started in surprise. "Bal?!" ((OOC) Made the assumption that there would be a capture of Tobias in the information. Bal, now Tobias, has a long history on the Glory with LiS and I am running with that. Will edit if need be) |

Trina couldn't help but chuckle softly at Mike's comment about hurling Chinese at him. Even as she chuckled, his question brought an onslaught of memories, all from her younger years. The images came and went rapid fire and final settled on the soft, gently smiling face of her mother, a face she'd been told by many who had know her mother, that she had inherited. "It was my mother..."
Trina moved aside as the captain swept passed she and Mike towards the nerve and control center of the ship. She started to move towards the only area she could think to be as her doctoring skills weren't needed immediately, the observation deck she'd discovered. She gave Mike another smile as she went, figuring Mike would likely need to confer with Ian over the details of the job. |

Khei remained quiet as Ian and Lucian spoke. She was crew not captain. Her job didn't include speaking to clients unless they or her boss deemed it so. That was the rule on Beylix and she couldn't think of any reason for it to be different in this case. When Ian headed for the bridge, she followed shortly behind. She didn't anticipate any problems but she thought it best to be available just in case a code went bad during launch. She got to the bridge just in time to hear Ian mutter something. Without thinking she asked about it. Somethin' wrong Boss? Edited by Khei, Sep 6 2012, 03:23 AM.

Mike watched as Dugan swept past Trina and himself, announcing that they were up, running and heading out. After barely mentioning her mother, the doctor took the opportunity to slip away. Mike couldn't help but feel that just after being concerned about bringing up troublesome memories, he'd managed to do it. With Trina out of earshot. "Yeah, that'd be the wrong question," and he followed by muttering Chinese to himself. Ian had surely closed up on his way in, but Mike double checked the doors in the cargo bay and considering anything else that would need a lookover before flight. In a moment or two he'd bring himself to the bridge, joining the conversation late and spotting a picture of an old friend. |

A faint smiled caressed his lips as Ian caught her scent again. He had not determined what that scent was. Mike's had always been a combination of Sulpher and Leather. It went with all the gun powder he had used a time or two in Ian's presence. He had once been told his scent was Sandlewood and Leather and he believed her. He wasn't sure which "her" his mind was refering to, but she had said it and he beleived. Khei was different. New and bold, almost brash, he decided. But for the life of him, he could not figure it out. Yet. Mike had entered on Khei's heels. He showed the capture. "Lucian called this man 'Tobias Hawke'. Mike and I know him as Balketh Raymon, or Bal for short. If he calls himself Tobias now, that's ok. Man needed a fresh start. Too much history, too much blood. He shook his head as if to clear his vision of just those things, then he looked around the bridge at the gathered folk and checked the screens of the ship. He saw Trina in the Observation Deck and smiled again. "Time to dust off and be away." He flipped a few switches "Baroness Control, this is the HMS Glory, ready to depart." Over the comm came the reply
"Roger Baroness. Will do. Glory ... Out!" He activated the thrusters and pulled away from the station. Being in space, it was a smooth transition, at least it was to Ian. He still remembered when he almost crashed Bernedette Station ... before they actually did blew it up. Well not them anyway, but because of them. "Ok folks, we're Free and Flyin!" |

Khei nodded silently at the explaination. She thought better of inquiring any further. Seemed most folk had things in the past that were better left covered in dust. While Ian handled their departure she had been running various passive system checks to make sure that they hadn't overlooked even one line of code. Once clear of the station, Khei heaved a sigh of relief and allowed herself to relax for the first time in weeks. She stared out the windows for a while before speaking softly, almost in a whisper. It was evident she wasn't speaking to anyone in particular. In fact, it was more likely she was only thnking out loud, her mind lost in the endless black just beyond the windows. It's so... Different. Beautiful in a way. Like.. Well like ya shed some chains ya couldn't see that was holdin' ya down. She stood like that for a few more seconds before she came out of her stupor and realized she had zoned out for a moment. She looked at Ian and Mike sheepishly. Er. Sorry about that. First time on a ship actually seein' the black lke that. |

It was a hell of a thing to take in. Mike took a deep breath then blew out a gust of air, inflating his cheeks for escaping from a balloon. The memory of the man was staggering enough, his history on this ship, moments which Michael had witnessed. But the change of name, the very fact he was now up on the view screen, that took something out of Becker. He came a little speechless and a few events passed by him. Ian calling for take off permission and then using it, and Khei's moment by the window. It was Khei's moment that brought him back, he looked to her and smiled slightly. "First time huh?" Mike could relate, having utilised many an opportunity to sit on the bridge and watch everything go by. Finally he would look back to the capture of Bal or 'Tobias' and figure it out. "Wait. Don't tell me that's the guy we're picking up." Not that he minded Bal/Tobias being back on the ship, it was just all coming around rather peculiarly. |

Well. Been on ships in the black twice b'fore. Once leavin' Ariel for Beylix. Second, from Beylix to th' Baroness. Both times, though, I was all cramped up in... She stopped herself before saying somethin' she might regret. My room didn't have no windows so I never got to actually see th' black till now. She caught on to something amiss about the guy they were hired to hitch a ride for and finally spoke up. Somethin' wrong with th' guy we're sposed t' be pickin' up? |

Ian smiled as he listened to wonder in Khei's voice as she looked out the forward port. He had not replied as his hands held the yoke and piloted the Glory away from the Baroness. He did listen as Mike asked her what Ian had wanted at say
Before he could answer.
"Nope. He thought for a second and clarified his answer. "I mean, nothing is wrong with Bal, I mean Tobias. He was crew a while back. That makes him family. It's just been a while since we've seen him." He looked over his shoulder, back at Mike and continued. "And, yes, he is the person we are picking up. It'll be good to have him around." |
