<Continued from "The Baroness"> Sonya had disengaged Red Dawn from the Baroness as the two Federal Agents were sucked out of the Airlock and rolled along side of the ship before bouncing off into the black. After a few fancy moves she charged at the Alliance Warship, Pegasus - then came the full burn. The engine got so hot that it started to shine a red glow into the cargo bay. The noise was intense, like it was building up a heavy pitched tone ready to explode. Then... All became quiet as the engine released the full burn, activating it's sub thrusters and launching Red Dawn in a bright orange haze over the Pegasus and gone... The Pegasus faded from view as the full burn continued for several minutes before cooling off. The engine was making a loud clanking sound as smoke poured out of it, filling the ship with a thick haze. On the console Sonya could see several warning indicators. Fuel status low, Engine Overheated, Broken Turbine Coil. |

Remy looked down at the little one, tears were streaming down her face, he slowly made his way to her as she talked to him. Remy wished he had a tissue or a handkerchief or something, but he didn’t. She asked him a question, one which he didn’t know how to answer without her freaking out. It helped when Jones limped over to them and told them to hold onto something. He motioned for her to walk with him. He couldn’t find a seat for them to strap into, but he just found some railings, so he just held onto them. He then felt the ship lift off, and then suddenly sprinted into life. He felt the force of the ship moving… Fast. There was noise, lots of noise, then it silence. Then the smell hit him. Burning. Not good. |

Jenna looked up and nodded. She wasn’t sure what was about to happen but it sounded like a good piece of advice.
Jenna wiped her eyes on the back of her long sleeve and stood up. She followed Remy and stopped when he got to the railings. He reached over and grabbed a hold of one of them. Jenna stopped and gave him kind of an are you crazy look and then she took hold of the railing. Several things happened at once. The ship started moving, the hold started getting very warm and the noise started. At first Janna wasn’t sure but she thought she could smell smoke and she started to panic. Being on a docked ship on fire was one thing. Being on a ship in space that might be on fire was a whole different thing. |

The ship shook momentarily, slowly detaching itself from the space station. Joseph clung to the console with one arm, never did like space flight. Too noisy, too shaky, things tended to crash far too often. Infront of him the two poor souls who'd tried their luck at the door took their final breath of the remaining atmosphere, before it poured out into the emptiness, their flailing bodies following suit. He blinked, said nothing, and turned from the hatch, work to be done. "It's not over yet." he said, apparently to himself, and headed up toward the bridge. Joseph took a few steps up their steel staircase, re-holstering his sidearm on the way, not a lot to shoot in the vacuum, but suddenly found himself frozen where he stood, arms locked onto the handrails for dear life. "What in hell is that?" The noise started small, a mere hum at first, but quickly grew. First a low rumble, then the higher pitched screeching coming in. From where he stood the whole ship seemed to shake in time with the sounds. Out of the frying pan, into the tumble drier? And yet it grew ever louder, bright red light spilling out from the engine room and into the bay. "Frak." he stated simply, his grip on the rails loosening as he set off once again, up the steps and toward the bridge. Well, there were certainly worse ways to go. He'd seen ships go off before, and well, anyone on bored didn't exactly have to worry about finding a coffin that fitted. No, generally a small sized jar would do. Still, after getting so far, it seemed like a lackluster ending. He was certainly going to have words with the publisher. Then he clicked it, the sound as with most things, had given it away. The mechanical scream from below had plateau'd, not growing, no fading, but holding heavy pitched tone as the ship burned its way to freedom. His pace slowed, no rush to the bridge to get a final question regarding their exploding status in. Save that for tomorrow, he thought with a sigh. Even after the noise had subsided, the ship still subtly shook with reverberations, a think wave of smoking pumping out of the engine room and into the rest of the ship. Perfect, cooked alive, medium rare. Joseph shook the notion from his head, and finished the last leg of his trip to the bridge. He stepped in, briefly admired the view, then turned his attention to the pilot. "Nice flying." he offered the compliment with a smile, but gave no time for response, "Fire control systems next?" he quickly asked, voice half full of hope, the rest of it distracted as his eyes searched for the answer. A button, he thought. With flames on it. No! Flames covered by a big X. Yeah. |

Sonya watched the navigation. the warning indicators weren't entirely unexpected, there's a reason why hard burns are called hard. And burns. She couldn't make out their destination, if any. They'd need a course correction unless her random turn had been a million to one and put them in a tangent intercept to put them in an eventual orbit with some pleasant celestial body. "Nice flying." Joseph offered the compliment with a smile, but gave no time for response, "Fire control systems next?" Gulliver smiled, nodded. Seemed to become aware of the dangers. "Yeah, hopefully." and nodded her agreement to Joseph. She pointed at a panel which should have the switches under it. 'fire suppression'. "Suppression, always thought that was a bit pessimistic. Why not fire elimination, huh?" She tapped the all comm, "Everyone up to the bridge. Gan mang!" Sonya unstrapped, one eye looking at the indicators. It didn't look good, ship was on fire, damaged, and they had little fuel. It'd been full up... "Rutting hard burn." she muttered to herself before giving a useless tap to the fuel indicator. In her experience she'd never seen that help, yet she'd never known a pilot or mech that didn't do it. "Might need to pull a plug and empty the ship out." She had stepped to the bridge door, examined the seals. Gulliver tapped the comm again, "And bring my stuff." She'd lugged it all the way, gorramed if she was going to lose it out the airlock if they had to decompress the cargo deck and engine room. Of course, they might lose everything. Her face had slowly slipped from the exilleration of the flying to a blank empty. What she knew how to do was done. Now, they'd have to think. Gan mang = hurry, make haste Edited by Tojoyama, Aug 23 2012, 01:55 AM.

Now that the ship had leveled off and didn’t seem like it was going to fall out of the sky Jenna loosened her grip on the railing and looked at Remy. “Well that was fun. What do we do for an encore?
“Alright I guess we go to the bridge.” Jenna wandered towards where she figured the bridge was. Looking back towards Remy she tilted her head to one side. “You never did answer my question. Are you guys in some sort of trouble?” |

Cyrus regained his balance as the ship stopped shuddering around him and a foreboding serenity settled on the cargo bay. The comms came to life and their default pilot beckoned everyone up to the bridge - after a hard burn like that, with the smell of smoke in the air, that didn't seem to be a good sign. He stood, straightening up, his rucksack in one hand and his doctors bag still with his young friend. "Everyone's alright, yeah?" They looked it. shaken, maybe, but the adrenaline was still flowing by the looks of things, and no one had taken an unnecessary knock to the head or the like. With that diagnosis he turned his attention to Saren. What've I pulled her into. The question hadn't been directed at the old man, but he heard it nonetheless, and have the flying Companion a quick glance to see just how he was going to answer the question. Sure, the young one had been lurking around in an off limits area, perhaps with the intention of stowing away. Now she was tied to them and, almost definitely, their murder charges. Cyrus shook his head sadly, turning back to Saren. "Shall we?" He headed for the stairs leading up, scooping up Sonya's belongings on his way, assuming the rest of the group would follow. |

Saren didn't get the answer she was looking for. Yes she didn't know the man they had left behind, and in all honesty she didn't really care, it was just odd to see Cyrus with a group of people who would abandon the man who had owned this ship. What have they done? She thought to herself. Cyrus is not one to leave a man behind. How deep have they dug their own hole? The ship started to move violently about, and Saren held on to whatever she could find. She had wrapped one of her arms around the nearest crate, and held tightly onto Cyrus with her other. Smoke started to fill up the cargo bay and Saren knew straight away that smoke is never a good sign inside a ship. Saren exchanged glances with Cyrus. She noticed he had looked at her with concern. Something was up, and it kept causing her to think back to her previous thoughts. Saren was brought back to reality from the foul stench of the smoke, and the high pitch screams of the engine. She darted her eyes all around the cargo bay, and just as she had found the stairs out of the cargo bay, she had heard the pretty female, Sonya, call over the intercom.
"Time to get out of this ticking bomb" Saren mumbled under her breath. She was making her way to the stairway with Cyrus, when she was just in earshot of Jenna, and could just make out what they were talking about.
Saren noticed Cyrus take attention to the conversation and then slowly shake his head sadly. Again, her thoughts had turned to nothing but bad ones. Thinking of awful scenarios that the old man could've gotten himself into. She hoped none of them were true, and tried her best to not think of them anymore.
"Right behind you" She uttered, following him up the stairs and towards the bridge. |

Joseph turned his attention from Sonya, leaning instead toward a small selection of switches, the fading white text below read " - IRE S - - - ESSION " and above each switch a symbol, likely identifying each section it corresponded to. Unable to crack Corso's code at a glance, Joseph looked to his side nervously then back to the bank of switches, and began clicking each one in turn. Never could have too much suppression, especially in cases of fire, in space. He instinctively went to reach down toward the Comms unit, but stopped himself midway and couldn't help but bear smile, his arm returning to rest at his side. Finally, a chance to admire the view. He leaned forward against one of the consoles, looking out the front windows with a careless sigh. Something to be said for views like this. "So, we headed somewhere in particular, or just taking the scenic route?" he asked aloud, still staring out into the Black, eyes twinkling the reflections of distant stars. |

As Joseph flicked the switches the smoke from the engine room started to ventilate to the exterior vents of the ship into the black. Even by doing this, the smoke continued to flow from the engine. It was now making a loud, sharp noise now every few seconds. |

"So, we headed somewhere in particular, or just taking the scenic route?" ask Joseph. Gulliver spoke as she moved back to sit at the pilot's console. "Yes, somewhere, just not sure where yet. and they're all the scenic route." She flopped back in the seat, strapped in automatically. "Shut us up and get a seal when everyone is here." 'what to do... what to...' 'Shut off the engine.' "Good. Good idea." 'of course.' "Source, then effect." Gulliver hated to go to shut down, not without knowing where they were and where they were headed. But even putting a vacuum in the engine room and pulling out all the O2 wouldn't stop the malfunction. She shut down the main engine. Started to read the more detailed diagnostics. Didn't understand what was wrong. "Anyone an engineer?" No. Clearly not. These people would be no help. No spacers. They would have jumped in by now. 'There are slow spacers and old spacers but there are no old slow spacers.' Again a glance at the navigation, then a look to see if shutting down the busted engine was stopping the fire. Or the cause of smoke. She knew how to fight the fire, more steps. but after that...? She turned around to look at those gathered, tried to unlock her brain. If they were all present, she'd make sure the bridge was sealed up. Sonya Gulliver put on her game face, determined. They were right well humped, but she figured something would come up. Something always did. Just don't give up. Or you'll miss it. Edited by Tojoyama, Aug 24 2012, 02:48 AM.

Remy thought about doing something about the smell, but he heard over the intercom Sonya telling them to make their way to the Bridge, and fast. It was followed by a command to bring her stuff. Remy looked at the girl who had wiped her eyes of the tears and nodded and smiled at her reassuringly, she asked him the question again, and he knew he had to answer "You were hiding behind some crates, were you not? I'd ask you the same question as well" he stated nicely, he knew that sooner or later they would all have to find out about each other, but now wasn't the time, it would give them all suitable time to think about what they were doing, and how they all came to be. Jones talked to them, and Remy nodded at him, Jones scooped up Sonya’s belonging, and Remy didn’t like that, "Please, Jones, I'll take those" he stated simply, the man had looked after him when he was in need, maybe if he hadn’t they wouldn’t have been in this mess, but still, he had to repaid the favour somehow. Remy then followed them all up to the Bridge, where they met with Sonya and Val. Remy looked around, and they seemed like a ragtag bunch, and for the meantime, they were it, this was going to be the people he would be spending a while with, they were stuck with each other, whether they liked it or not. Jenna shrugged her shoulders.” Yah I guess we all have stories to tell.” Jenna followed Remy up to the bridge and stood waiting to hear what was going to happen. She wondered what could possibly be so bad that Remy didn’t want to tell her what was going on. As Jenna wandered past the crates she stopped for a second and checked out the locks. “Wonder what’s in there?” She said to no one in particular. There was no getting out of this. She had no idea of who these people were. When they figured out that she was little to no use on a ship she wondered what they were going to do. |

The old man was taken aback for a moment, but nodded and grunted a thanks as he started to climb the main stairs, struggling with his own large bag of sundries. Once he reach the bridge, after a bit for hasty searching, he stood by the door as the 'crew' assembled. They weren't the kind of spacefaring crew that he'd seen before, but nonetheless they were all he had now. There was the flying Companion, their acquaintance having been made as he'd crashed into Cyrus hours earlier. He's seemed a good man, thoughtful and caring as he looked out for the new girl the moment she was on board. Then there was Sonya. Sonya Gulliver. He knew nothing of this women who was now at the helm of their stolen ship. She was decisive, took initiative, and so far hadn't done anything he could disagree with. The way she'd torn into combat back on the station had convinced him that she would be handy to have around, too. Then there was Joseph, or Val, or whoever the man was calling himself now. His story didn't seem to check out - he was a comical, wise cracking brigand who didn't seem to have a problem dealing with death, or combat. Where he came from or what he had to offer the crew was still unknown, but there was something about him that Cyrus figured he could trust. Saren was another story. An old friend. All he could think about now, watching over her as discussion broke out on the bridge, was whether or not he'd be able to look after her after this one. For years, since the war, the the young girl had zig zagged in and out of his life, and each time the two of them had grown stronger. Now, however, the circumstances seemed only dire, and the future had never looked so cloudy. Then there was the new young girl, who's name the old man hadn't yet caught. Her story was a complete mystery, but he was keeping one eye on her just in case. He'd summarised in his head that she was a runaway, perhaps in trouble with the law, but you could never tell with strange folk in the 'Verse. Best keep an eye on her for now... He shook his head, fearing he'd missed something important, and interjected into the conversation that was forming around the bridge. "Alright. The plan?" |

The madness seemed to be coming to an end. The engine had ceased its death cries, and its attempts to kill them had at first slowed, before quickly starting to fade. Suppression, always a charm, Joseph smiled warmly at the assembling crew. Well, maybe not a crew. Not just yet anyway. Crews had order, not always fair but there, and crews had plans, plans beyond making s**t up as they went along. Fun maybe, but stupid. Finally, Cyrus had asked the million credit question, earning a nod from Joseph. Chap clearly had a head between his shoulders. "Run. Run and hide." he answered the man, his voice clear and crisp. "Between these lovely mugs..." Joseph gripped his own face, warping into a strange shape for a moment before letting go and touching an overhead support strut "....and this stolen ship, I reckon we're just a little to hot right now." He leaned his weight into the strut, it held. Sturdy ship, but it wasn't doing them much good by painting a giant gorram target on their backs. "So we disappear, let things die down a spell. Got a ship and all, we just head Rimwards a while and catch our breath." Joseph finished with a long exhale. Running and hiding would do for now, keep them alive at least. Avoid the Core, avoid the fuzz, get to cover. He looked around the assembled folks, assessing how this particular line of thinking was going down. |

As they walked, it seemed like the young one had taken his excuse, and nothing more would be said about it, for the mean time anyway. They carried on up the stairs. There was quite a bit to Sonya's stuff, but Remy could handle it. They finally made it up to the Bridge and Remy placed the stuff down. Taking a look at the people around him. There was Jones, the guy who had first saved him in the bar from the grog addled man, Val, who had accidentally killed the man, Sonya, someone he knew really nothing about, Saren, friend of Val, and the young one, nothing known about her either. It was a ragtag bunch. Jones spoke, a simple question, and one which needed to be answered. The smell of smoke started to slowly dissipate which calmed down Remy. Val was first to respond, and what he said made sense. It was the best course of action. They were on the run, they needed things to calm down before doing anything else. The Rim was the best place for them, the Rim generally wasn't controlled that much by the Alliance, and hopefully their mugshots wouldn't make it out there for a while. They had a ship, they had money, it's all they really needed. "Look I'm not used to this, this life. But I'm here now, and I'm gonna make the best out of this situation, well, as much as I can. Val's right, we need to lay low" he said not really adding much apart from his own inadequacies to the proceedings. "I may not be able to help much in the way of ideas on what to do, but I'm a quick learner, plus I managed to grab a fair bit of creds from those lockers, it should tide us over for a bit" he stated actually adding some kind of help. These people had helped him, sure, it had led to the situation, but when he needed it in that bar, they helped him, he wasn't indebted to them, but he certainly felt like he needed to return the favor, sticking with them in the meantime. Cyrus gave a nod and an affirmative grunt, stepping forward and placing one hand on Remy's shoulder as he spoke. "Aye. This is the attitude we best hold dear, 'least for now. We're in this together, we'll manage a way out of it. Together." Now that the adrenaline was wearing off, and that dull pain back in his thigh, Cyrus started to comprehend his luck. Firstly, they'd managed to escape without too many issue - no one was hurt (Although the Captain...) and they were 'free', for now at least. He probably couldn't have had a better group to watch his back during a prison break. Again Cyrus nodded at this - the man was thinking on his feet and that kind of forethought was going to pay off, literally. He'd never even considered checking the lockers back on the station for some extra Credits. It was time to start looking at the big picture. "Well. Seems we don't have a choice just yet. Indeed, we best put some distance between us and the station, then gather our bearings." He turned then to Sonya, who was still sitting at the powered down console. She seemed to be competent up until now - until proved wrong, he thought. "You can get us restarted? Moving again?" It was all they could do for now. Get flyin'. Hope for the best. Once some time had passed and they had some information to work with, maybe then a more solid plan could come together. Until then, simplicity would have to suffice. "Someone want to check the ship with me before we start going? Don't remember the... Captain... mentioning he had any crew mates, but you never know. This ship is still enemy territory until we check it's every corner, s'far as I'm concerned." He pulled out his old wartime revolver from the medical bag he'd had Saren hold for him, his eye specifically motioning to Joseph, suggesting they be exploration buddies. "Perhaps someone should jump on the horn, too. Make sure we haven't made headlines or anything." The words almost caught in his throat as he said it. |

Jenna looked around suddenly feeling out of place. She took a deep breath then paused to ask a question. "Um has anyone bothered to check inside those crates in the hold? I know they have Blue Sun markings all over them but there might be stuff we can make use of." Jenna looked down at her feet wiggling her toes in her boots. "I might be able to get them open.” "I mean I’m just a little bit curious and they aren’t really doing anyone any good just sitting there and besides I’m not going to be much help unless you need me to crawl into a small space." |
