I'm ok with this. Some good mentions (2 from Firefly - can you guess which 2 before looking?).

Thoughts? Comments? Your own list?

I'm not huge on sci-fi to be honest, though I was surprised there was no mention of a certain Mr Solo, though. Or anyone from that little, unknown franchise called Star Wars. Happy with the Firefly and BSG mentions, though.

I went in thinking Kirk and Picard and I got Kirk and Picard, can't figure how the latter fell that far down the list though, but my appreciation for him might be a generational thing.

Good to see the likes of Quantum Leap and Sliders mentioned but yeah, the absence of Star Wars seems really strange. If not Solo, I'd expect Vader.

That list is made of win (guessed them, weren't too hard). Fine, fine choices. Few before my time I must admit, but classic scifi is often as good as, if not better than its current versions.

Also, that list only seems to be of TV scifi characters, and despite Star Wars having a few good awful made for TV specials, it would very much be a film franchise.

Hate having to call myself a scifi fan in regards to storytelling preference, it just brings to mind aliens fighting robots on the moon, or Kirk wrestling with that ridiculous crocodile headed monster.

You'd be surprised that when you get down to it, how many stories are science fiction at their core. Hell, how many people were/are hooked on Lost? I'm not saying it's better than other genres, infact some of my favourite novels are cross genre, between science fiction and something else.

I just love the idea behind looking at something and asking 'what if'?

Oh, I concur. I'm not anti-scifi, I guess I'm just super selective when it comes to TV, and the ones I do enjoy just so happen to not be sci-fi (usually). But the genre is prime.

I'm personally more drawn to pure Fantasy but there are times when Fantasy and SciFi are hand in hand.

I've got enough of a spine to flat out admit that I did pass up Firefly when it originally aired because I HATE westerns and the whole "Cowboys in Space" theme rubbed me against the grain so I never actually gave it a chance.

When Serenity hit theaters, the previews grabbed my attention and I wanted to see it. Had no clue it was spawned from a series I passed up. I had to wait till it hit DVD but once I saw Serenity I was hooked.. Found Firefly and that was the last nail in my coffin. I learned the hard way not to trust first impressions.

I still hate westerns but the theme makes sense in the 'Verse so I can look past it.

I have to say tho I am a fan of SciFi but I guess I am a might selective.. I hate Star Trek. Star Wars is cool but I won't die without the DVDs lol. Basically there better be a good story or really fraking AWESOME aliens or it won't hold my attention.

Fantasy on the other hand.. Yeah.. I'll pretty much sit in front of the TV for anything based in fantasy. (Legend of the Seeker being my current all time fav Fantasy show)

Ah good call Grav, it's a TV show list. Can't pick much fault with it when I consider that.

I may have to convince Dugan to fire you from Glory then.

Long story. Suffice to say it's not 100% the series itself that makes me hate it.

Then again I can't stand Twilight either.. or pretty much any "Chick flick" XP

See? I have redeeming qualities.

;)

I take it back, I'll convince him to kill you off.

I'd make a similar remark about chick flicks but then I wouldn't be joking. Suffice to say I should keep quiet about my tastes, but we are all Firefly fans so this is good company.
