For a moment Freddy considered that Khei was telling the truth. Then he shook his head. "Lies!" "I know it was you, it has to be... It has to be. They told me it was you!" He started punching himself in the head hard as he started talking to himself. "Freddy, you need to kill her. She set you up." "Are you sure?" "Yes." He then had a wicked smile on his face. "Don't worry little fox. I am not going to kill you physically. Just going to kill your life." He grabbed her portable computer and flipped it open while connecting it to his. He then cracked her password and connected to her system. "I am going to put you through the same hell I was in. I am going to send a signal to the Feds with your computer ID and location and let them know Fox has returned and will blow up the Baroness. When they get here, I will be the hero." He placed a small explosive device will a digital timer on the ground next to her and set it for 2 hours as it started counting down. |

Khei's eyes Narrowed. Of course they'd say it was me.. I was the one responsible for the mass blackout remember? They got nothin' on the other four who fled. Gorram purple bellies. She was less than surprised that Fred was loopy. She'd always figured him to be short a few screws. She paid little attention to his ease of hacking her own computer. She could build and program a new one easily enough. It would take some time but it could be done. With a more advanced security system. The explosive, however, had her full attention. She had to wait for Fred to leave but once he did she'd fold her thumbs into her palms and work at sliding her hands free if possible from the rope. |

Baroness Ian nodded to the boy as he left and slid into the booth. He signaled for a waiter
"No idea" He cringed when he understood the rest of Mike's question. "You heard that one, huh?" He figuried he had to come clean. "I had to take a deal with the Devil and rejoin the Alliance Military" He spoke sofetly and felt that he didn't need to worry about anyome evesdropping or recording what was said. Not here anyway. "I have to report back any activity I deem suspisous to the Military. Only thing I report on is slavers and drug runners. Not us law abiding common smugglers." He paused a moment. "It was either that or loose the Glory for good and go back to the Mines. Once was enough." He waited for Mike's response. He trusted him, just like he always had. Mike had never let him down. If the man did not want to fly with him anymore, there would be no hurt between them. And he just admitted to Mike what some of the jobs he was willing to do. |

As the two spoke, a few minutes past uneventfully. A watchful eye would have seent he young boy report to Bruno, the bartender, who then sent the boy into the back room, presumably the kitchen area of the bar. A few minutes later, the young boy returned, this time followed by another man. He was tall, slim, wearing the fine tailored suit and designer stubble to boot, his slick hair pulled back into a trendy ponytail and his eyes covered by a flashy pair of black shades. He followed the boy across the main room and approached the booth. Upon arrival, the boy bowed ever so slightly and then left. The tall skinny man entered the booth, smiling at the two men there with a wicked grin, and seated himself opposite Ian. Even through the sunglasses, it was clear he was staring at the Captain. He asked, nonetheless. "So, which might be Mr... er, Captain Dugan?" |

Becker's eyes kept on Dugan as the explanation was shared. His eyes were narrowed and his lips held together until he gave a response. "Hell," the expression dropped and his face returned to it's natural mold "coulda been a lot worse." Mike began looking out of the booth again, focusing on different directions and locking onto passerbys for brief moments. "And Glory's always been about forgiving sins," there was one more straight look given to his captain, his eyes speaking to Ian. "So we'll let this one slide." A small nod was instinctive, then Mike resumed his inspection of everything away from the booth. Mike locked his sight on the arrival and this time followed his target as it came towards them. He looked to the face, down to the beltline in search of any dangers, then back up to the face to read the man's eyes. A tilt of his head and a look toward Ian indicated the captain when he was asked for. |

The Bar Once the man across the table noticed Michael's gesture, he seemed to totally ignore the man, focusing on the one at the table who was clearly a 'Captain'. Mike was able to identify that the newcomer was unarmed. "Ah, yes, Captain Dugan. Of the Glory, I've been told. A fine ship, no doubt." He extended a pale hand across the table towards the Captain, four of his five slender fingers glinting with rings. "My names Lucian Hollows, though Lucian is just fine. A friend of a friend pointed you out earlier today." As he said that, he gave a nonchalant glance across to the bar where Bruno was absently watching the exchange, an over-polished glass in one hand. "Said you might be the type of man to help me out with some... business." The Engine Room With Khei bound, Freddy seemed hysterical and more or less unable to comprehend her words. He bounded around the large engine room, disappearing from sight and then reappearing again as she lay helpless. It was as if he wasn't quite sure what his next move would be. Khei wouldn't have believed that time flew so quickly if the slowly descending clock in front of her hadn't been there. 01:58:21 Finally, almost as if spur of the moment, Freddy stopped his odd dance of satisfaction and stared at Khei long and hard, his face an odd mixture of rage and amusement. "You... you did this to yourself, didn't you? You did it to us all..." And then he was gone. A few seconds ticked by before Khei was definite that she was alone. One downside to being literally insane - you can lose focus of the details. The ropes were easily slipped out of, leaving her standing there, alone, with a time bomb before her and the Feds on their way. |

Okay. Don't panic. first let's see what we're dealing with here. Then I'll deal with "dear Freddy". She pulled a screwdriver from her pocket and carefully worked to open up the housing to the explosive. She kept an eye out in case her old "friend" should choose to return so she could get back into place where he left her if need be. She allowed the thought to grip the back of her mind that it was likely she might need to kill him if it came to that. While she'd been in a few street fights back on Ariel, she'd never killed anyone. She wasn't completely sure she could do it. |

Baroness Ian had come clean and waited for Mike's reply. He didn't have to wait long because with a hard look Mike did.
His expression dropped and his face returned to it's natural mold
Ian noted that Mike began looking out of the booth again, just as he had been doing.
Ian figuried that he knew exactly what Mike meant. From the corner of his eye he saw a thin man walk their way like he owned the place. Maybe he did, thought Ian The Thin Man sat down and even with the glasses Ian could tell he was looking directly at him.
Mike nodded in Ian direction
He extended a pale hand across the table towards the Captain, four of his five slender fingers glinting with rings. Ian accepted the hand shake and promptly wanted to wipe his hands clean.
Ian followed Lucian's glance and saw a big man behind the bar, absently watching the exchange, an over-polished glass in one hand. Ian looked back just as quick
"We do all sorts a cargo. Even a pick up or two. But, at the moment, our ship is laid up for maintance. If I had a crew of techs, we could be in the Black in a few days, otherwise, it might take a few weeks with just ourselves. He had laid it all out. It was Lucian's move now. |

The BarLucian nodded, listening intently, clearly unaffected by the knowledge that Ian knew the exchange was being watched. Before he replied, he had one more, long, casual look at Michael, before turning his attention back to Ian. "I have a reputation of looking after those who look after me, Captain. If you have a ship, a crew, and a demeanor worthy of living up to your own reputation, I think something could be arranged here." The words flowed smoothly, almost rehearsed, and it became apparent that the man was quickly becoming bored with the conversation. "What say you to this: I get my folk to patch up your ship, you go to Persephone and pick me up a certain individual. All expenses paid." |

The Engine Room Khei cracked the casing of the explosion easily enough, with little effort, and revealed the complex mix of wires and flashing lights inside. It was small, yes, but it was clearly powerful enough to tear a nice hole through the station. Another minute or two had ticked away at this point. As she sat there analysing the construct in front of her, fingers gently touching the mixture of wires inside the explosives' casing, something seemed to change. Something there, in the dark, cold engine room, became 'not so right'. It took her a few seconds to realise what it was. The time had gone blank. After a few seconds, the console light flashed back on: :) A few seconds later: 00:19:59 The game had changed. |

Engine Room She could feel her face flush red with anger. She hated being toyed with. Her mind raced trying to calculate which wires were actually part of the device and which were merely decoys. Panic clawed at the back of her mind, threatening to take over. Logic could only last so long. Finally she found what she was looking for. A single cluster of wires. There, in that cluster, she was sure was the wire she would need to cut. At least she hoped she was certain. As much as she knew about electronics, explosives were unfamilure to her. She knew she could detonate it if she was wrong but if she did nothing it would detonate on it's own. The end result would remain the same. Here goes nothin' She carefully wedged her mini wire cutter through the cluster to the one she had determined must be it, said a small prayer to no particular deity, and cut the wire. The Engine Room Time seemed to slow as Khei snapped the wire open. The device took a few seconds to react - a feature she assumed her old friend had built in deliberately for dramatic flare. After a short pause, though, the console screen turned black. And then: :( Then the device switched off. |

The Bar
Ian kept his poker face, but inside he was all smiles. He could make this work. With only three people it would be rough, everyone would have to work double duty and maybe double shifts. He'd put an add for crew on the Cortex or take in a stray or two. It's always worked for him in the past. "As long as the person is a willing passenger, you got a deal. I'll make sure to get an itemized listing of material and expences once the trip is done. He had spoken matter-of-factly but inside he was shouting for joy. They were getting back in the Black. |

Khei heaved a sigh in relief. With it now disarmed she carefully cut the remaining wires to make it difficult to re-arm before getting to her feet. She held the largest screwdriver she had with her in such a way as to make a stab with it and slowly made her way toward the direction Freddy had last gone. If nothing else, she wanted her computer back if possible. She also knew he'd come after her again if she didn't do something now. She swallowed at the idea. She was careful to keep large objrcts in front of her in case he took a shot at her. If she could just sneak up from behind... |

The Bar"But of course, Captain. You provide me with a list and I'll have my people get the ship ready. I believe the engineers are already on site..." There was a tone about the mans voice, as if the entire conversation had gone exactly the way he had rehearsed. "Don't worry; my friend will most definitely want a ride back to me. You can count on it." He stood then, rising from the table gracefully, and nodded to the two men before him. He'd barely paid attention to Michael the entire time and wasn't about to start now. "Give your list to Bruno or the boy; they'll sort it out. I'll have my men come for you when work is complete. Shouldn't be but 12 hours or so, I imagine. They're... very good." The man gave a wicked smile then, shaking his hair from his face as he turned and left the booth. Instead of heading to the bar, he crossed the common area and disappeared out the main door. Bruno was still watching Mike and Ian from the bar. Engineering It didn't take long for Khei to leave the cavernous engine room she had confronted Freddy in, a labyrinth of hallways and tight catwalks opening up before her. She only wandered for a minute or so in the dim light before, rounding a corner, her computer came into sight. It was sitting in the middle of the otherwise bare hall before her. The back had been accessed and frayed wires spewed forth. There was no sign of Freddy, nor any life at all. |

Never in her life had Khei ever felt more like a rat in a maze. Part of her wanted her computer, the other part knew it would be a trap. As looney as Freddy was, he knew she'd want her computer back. Is it really that important? You can just build a new one. It would take time but you can do it. These halls might not be that place for confrontation. He's likely got the upper hand with his computer still able to access the station diagrams. Gorramit. Resigning to not fall into another trap and tempt fate again, she chose to leave the thrashed computer after all. She tried to remember which hallways went where and headed down a hallway she thought would lead her toward the bar or the docks, she was caregul to watch and listen for any sign of anyone else in the halls with her. |

Michael played third wheel, leaning back and letting the two discuss business. There was something he wanted to say, but there was also a good reason for him to keep it to himself, and he would have Dugan's ear afterwards. He took glances towards Ian, trying to read his reaction as a business deal was proposed. Mike nodded as the deal was accepted and the man departed. "So I understand we need this to get the ship up and running again. But we're accepting this as suspicious, right?" As Mike ran the situation through his head, rarely did two and two make four. He assumed Ian was aware, but was more concerned with getting Glory back on her feet. |

Engineering Khei continued along the corridors, twisting this way and that, for what seemed like forever. It couldn't have been more than ten or twenty minutes, however, until she came across an access door that seemed to lead back out to what she suspected was the public area of the space station. During the lonely venture there was no sign, nor sound, of someone else in the tunnels with her, let alone someone following her. |

"You caught that too? Yeah, it's suspicious. The whole day has been." He thought back over the day with the Fed's almost taking his ship apart and then Lucian offering to fix her back up. "Well, Bruno's been helpful since I docked the Glory. Let's play it out. Best find a Doc and a Mechanic before we ship out though. ... Let'see ... They fix the ship in 12 hours, we get it restocked and refueled, give us 24 hours afore we'd be back in the Black." He smiled his crooked smile and an old light came back into the captain's eyes. "Sounds like fun." Edited by ian dugan, Aug 31 2012, 01:14 PM.

The Bar A waitress drops by the booth now that Lucian had left, placing a few mugs down on the table between Mike and Ian. "On the house." She smiled, walking back to the bar. Bruno was now busy serving customers, no longer observing the pair in their booth. |
