I thought I had met my soulmate in RO. And when I mean "soulmate", I am referring to the part wherein your relationship transcends to complete, spiritual, emotional and mental heights. It was PERFECT, or so I thought...

We were together for more than a year. But let me tell you something about long-distance relationships. You MUST see each other, at some point. Otherwise, the relationship crashes.

I kept asking him to come to Cebu. He never did, reasonably saying that he needed the budget for it or he couldn't get away from work. I couldn't go to Manila either, cos I had no budget for it either and no permission from parents. But we stuck it out for a long time. We had a beautiful, wonderful relationship, with e-mails, text msgs, calls and webcam sessions.

In fact, we had one of the first GM-sponsored weddings. GM Calibur (long-gone now) presided over ours, and a lot of friends (& celebrity player appearances) were there.

In due time... we started playing less RO. We still had YM, but only if we managed to meet there. He had a night shift at work, I had school. So... at some point, we drifted apart.

And in the end, I had to find out something painful. He was seeing someone in the office. They didn't have a formal relationship, but they were close. And as much as I hate to admit it about a guy I've never physically met, he broke my heart. And I was still innocent and naive about heartbreaks then, because I've never met anyone who mattered to me as much as he did.

Well, you know, that was months ago. I'm a different person. I've changed. But I never forgot what happened, and I never forgave easily...

Oh don't worry, he's still alive. I didn't send assassins after him, lol. We became good friends again, and ended up with other people.

Just wanna say that online romances will never last long if you don't see each other, even at least once every few months. People change and stuff happen, and if you're not there to see each other grow, you might end up realizing that you fell in love with someone who isn't the same as the stranger you're with now.

We all grow up, in our own ways. And I can safely say that my experience, which was both pleasant and painful, taught me a lot, especially about myself. Successes and failures are a part of LIFE, which is ever-flowing and never-constant.

True, I am also one who has fallen in love in this virtual world of RO. I know how it feels, and I would also agree with Muse. If you're not seeing each other iRL, it will never work out. No matter how devoted both of you may seem to be, it's just impossible for people not to change.

All I can say is, when you fall for someone you meet here, make sure you get to meet them personally. Only then will your relationship grow, because though how deep and intense it may seem, if its only in RO, it will never match being with each other in iRL.
Destiny is only an excuse to those who give up and lose. Only man has the power to change fate, and that is the power of choice.
