I've lived in the northwest part of Livonia (between 7 and 8 Mile and Newburgh and Farmington) since June of 2010, and every summer our water pressure becomes unbearably low. This year it seems to have started already with the relatively warm and dry weather we've been experiencing. It's to the point where it feels like I can barely get clean in the shower and our sprinkler system doesn't function properly. I believe it's related to homes and businesses running their sprinkler systems, because when it rains during the summer we have very good pressure. I called the city last year to complain and they sent someone out, but it was just my luck that it had rained that morning and pressure was within normal range when he measured it. He told me that even if it had measured low, there was nothing he could do. I've spoken with some of our neighbors, and they also suffer from low water pressure. I've been told that we're in the highest part of Livonia and the new housing developments along 8 Mile have made the situation worse over the past few years. I'd like to know if the city or county (not sure who is responsible) plans to do anything about it. Edited by KillrBuckeye, May 23 2012, 03:31 PM.

For those who are interested, I found out from the head of our neighborhood association that the city has approved the project plans and funding for an extension of the 8 Mile water main that would bring us relief from the terrible water pressure in the warm months. Unfortunately, the Golf Ridge subdivision on 8 Mile so far has not agreed to allow a segment of the main to be buried on their property. They are the last remaining obstacle before this project can proceed. |
