I actually got a ticket for driving through a parking lot in the city of Wayne a few years ago. There was a bunch of construction on my normal route and the turnabout where I would normally would make a Michigan left (onto eastbound Michigan Ave) was closed. I was unfamiliar with the area so I turned left at the next place I could find that allowed me to get onto eastbound Michigan Ave. To make matters worse, there were confusing orange signs that seemed to suggest I was supposed to turn there. That place happened to be the parking lot of a funeral home that sits right between eastbound and westbound Michigan Ave. When I turned out of the parking lot there was a Wayne cop sitting right across from me just waiting for people to take this "shortcut" (although for me I swear it was not a shortcut--I was just trying to find my way). The cop was a real A-hole and didn't care about the circumstances. He issued me a ticket with a $100 fine and 2 points on my license.I showed up in court to contest the charges, and the courtroom was filled with approximately 50 people who had all been ticketed for the same offense at the same location! Everyone was incensed about the situation since it really was quite confusing and the city of Wayne took advantage of it to generate revenue. Everyone there ended up pleading guilty to the charges to have the points erased, but the cost was $120. What a racket that was! So the moral of the story is that you can and will get a ticket for driving through a parking lot, regardless of your excuses. |

To each their own. What I am suggesting, is a quick one minute "stop" in front of one of the stores that you are going "shopping" at. Heck you could get out of your car for that minute, stretch and still be faster than going thru the light. Your trip will still be shorter and you will waste less gas than following the debacle with the lights. |

Oh I'm not disagreeing with you. I have no problem with the parking lot short cut, as long as people don't drive recklessly through it. And I agree that the cop cannot prove that you are taking a short cut, but unfortunately in my opinion it won't stop him/her from giving you a ticket. |

Better yet, go west on McNamara then south on the first street. This takes you right to Six Mile and you're not stopping at all...hence even less gas wasted. Also, you get to McNamara before you begin to get caught up in the jam, so you don't have to wait to get to the eye clinic lot or Mobile lot. As a bonus you are not dodging the constant stream of pesky customers going in and out of Mobile. Do I really need to go into why it's a bad idea to cut thru the lot of an eye clinic? Lastly, taking McNamara you don't have to worry about a ticket and those darned cops doing their job. You and I may think it's a weak ticket, but the business owner doesn't. |

So what? Who cares?
|
Yes. Just for fun watch how the cops ignore the rules when they drive aound the city. No blinkers when they change lanes, over the speed limit, etc. etc. Yes, I know....they are prob chasing a bad guy....

Now this is a pretty darn funny post. It's like F11 showed him some mystical trick that defied all logic. Cutting through a lot to avoid a light.....who would have thunk of that??? |

No one said it was a trick that would blow your mind, but it shaved off a few minutes of my commute, so i thanked him/her. Another reason why i posted it, is because everyone here acts like the cops are a bunch of bad asses........as my old friend, Ice Cube would say: F*** the police! Is that why you ended your sentence ("...and it really worked!")with an exclamation point? Of course it saves time. One only needs common sense and an I.Q. over room temperature to realize that. Based on your post, attitude, and screen name I bet you live quite comfortably in your parent's basement (at best). Now spark up that water bong and have a great holiday. BTW- If you were to take the time to read some prior posts you would realize people on this board DON'T think the police are bad asses. For the most part they just think they are asses with too much time on their hands. Edited by RU Kidding Me?, May 25 2012, 01:24 PM.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the light timing is better. No more shortcut needed! |

It's not a bunch of "hooey" if you have to sit at the light for 5-6 cycles. Certainly not a day killer, but very frustrating when Six Mile traffic is breezing through w/o delay while Farmington is at a stand still. The other day at 5:15 PM traffic N/B south of Six was backed up for a half mile, well past Bellcreek. |

No one is "excited." It's just a big difference from having to wait one cycle at best. Not a big deal. |

Perhaps you pulled in to send a text. We don't want to do that on the road. |

The schools exist to educate, not employ.
|
Now that was down right clever. Just send a quick text, and you have time stamped evidnce of the fact that you didn't stop just to avoid traffic.
