The Livonia Save Our Youth Task Force will present the findings of a student summit during a Town Hall meeting 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Livonia City Hall. The entire community is invited to “Voices and Visions from the Livonia Student Summit.”

During the student summit in February, 70 Livonia high school students and 30 adult community leaders gathered to discuss concerns and solutions around topics that matter most to teens.

The teens identified concerns like cyber and traditional bullying, ease of access to drugs and alcohol, and a lack of safe, inexpensive places for them to go for fun.

They proposed, among other solutions, a reverse-bullying social media campaign that focuses on positive, pay-it-forward messages; tougher consequences for and more education on the physical effects of illegal drug and alcohol use; and a teen advisory board to meet with Livonia Mayor Jack Kirksey and the Livonia City Council on developing a downtown.

The teens will be at the town hall to discuss their findings and how community members can help.

Katie Olex, the task force's executive director, said the summit, the first one ever held in Livonia, exceeded the task force's expectations. “We were really blown away both by the students and adults,” she said.

The town hall is open to all ages and is free of charge. No registration is necessary. There will be a question and answer session and resource tables.

Livonia City Hall is at 33000 Civic Center Drive.
