Wheel of Teachers at Randolph; Help me understand..

Hello all,

My kid is at Randolph in the 4th grade and is on her 3rd teacher so far this year. The original teacher got cancer and decided that she was ready to retire after her treatment. I can totally understand why she retired and there are instances that teachers get too sick to teach. This happens at all employers and is not unique to schools.

After many subs, Randolph settled on a new teacher. She had a "meet and greet" night for the parents and we all got used to her. From what we can tell, she was doing a good job with the students and they were learning from her. I had no complaints and it seemed that the school handled the problem the best they could.

Now we get a letter home that yet another teacher will be taking over the class and is due to start March 1st. My only question is, why couldn't the second teacher finish the school year and not cause a disruption in my kid's education? My kid was very upset that the teacher is not staying and she was crying about it. All of this uncertainty is not good for the young students and causes all sorts of distractions. We all know that 4th graders are still a creature of habit and it doesn't take much to bring them off track. Now we are having another "meet and greet" session with the newest teacher next week.

Is this a MEA rule that the 2nd teacher could not continue to teach the class? If it is, SHAME ON THEM. I am sure the newest teacher will be fine, but I really don't like how it was handled.

Anybody have ideas on why this happens?

I just got a reply from Dr. Daniels regarding this matter. She said that "HR made the decision, not her". Someone there doesn't give too hoots about our kids education.

Where should I go with this? I know the decision has already been made, but someone should know that this isn't right.

If HR had to fire the teacher then did you really want them teaching to your child?

I appreciate the concern for the revolving door of teachers because its disruptive to the learning process but I dont think i would be complaining that HR is brooming out bad apples.

I don't think she was a bad apple at all. They also said that she will be back to sub in other classes and they had a staff reception for her for being a "Team Player".

Oh well, maybe there isn't an answer.

My kid at a different school had two teachers one year then three teachers the next school year.

Only once was it clear that the teacher was ill. The other switches were done without explanation.

IMO, Danielle Daniels is part of the LPS Friends and Family Plan, starting as an elementary teacher for approximately two years at Roosevelt, in central office for a short time, and then being christened a principal at Randolph, if my feeble memory serves.

Hello, people, do you not think it odd that your child(ren) have at least FOUR transitions (elementary, upper elementary, middle, high school) in their school careers, complete with so many teachers, friends to keep and make? Does this seem right to you?

Interesting..

I went to Plymouth-Canton from 1983 (K) - 1995 (12) and I NEVER had a teacher replacement for reasons other then illness.

The schools exist to educate, not employ.

Hello Purple,

Yes, I think it's pretty darn stupid for my kid to transition four or five times, depending on when their school was shuttered.

It makes no sense, especially when the experts say K-8 is the way to go. I know, I know the "experts" don't mean anything to LPS, but they do to me.
