Well, I just don't see this issue through the prism of politics. You had a school board that acted without the proper data put in front of them. It appears board policy was violated. The new board has been made aware of the supposed error, and the President of the Board has said they are taking the issue very seriously. She is quoted in the paper as saying she is looking into concerns raised by some other board members.

I trust they will, if the allegations are true, act in a judicious manner to rectify the situation. They must act, and if they do nothing, then that is still in a sense acting. Albeit, it would be making a statement that such actions are tolerated. But, still acting.

Well, the board has decided to do nothing about it. Even though it looked obvious they didn't have the proper appraisal, the majority of the board decided it wasn't worth pursuing. I for one will do everything I can to vote down any bond proposal they try to push by the residents. They have exhibited to me that the politics of providing cover for those in the administration is rampant. Just my opinion, but I don't trust them with one more dime they are getting. !40 million dollars a year, and then they want more from me for thirty years? I don't think so.

One encouraging thing is the amount of people that come to Livonia Neighbors. If they try to put this thing through on some August day, it will surely be reported here widely !

This forum can be a valuable tool to mobilize the forces against unwanted tax increases. We have to get by on less, they can learn to do that also. Giving superintendents big raises while cutting bus drivers and janitors? Starbucks type cafeterias? Skylights? I don't think so.

Giving away our land for next to nothing because of cozy relationships. Selling to an outfit that does not pay one dime in taxes, while the rest of us only pay more and more. These decisions have consequences. They have been informed of this.

but we must get our butts, and those of our neighbors, to the voting booth - I believe apathy still reigns supreme...

It is being scheduled for the August date AS USUAL. I agree...apathy is great, and when just a small percentage of the voting population takes control it is another sad day in the the history of Livonia voting. It saddens me that a mere 5 to 7 thousand people decide what the city's fate is to be, and rest are sheep, easily fooled, and easily led down the path in the wrong direction at worst, and into a hole at best.

The pattern is set and there will be no varying from it...until voters stop it from working, which is the task at hand.

The difference is we have this forum to spread the word. We have the ability in our own neighborhoods to pass out flyers, reminding everyone what their vote, or lack of, will mean. To wring our hands and say we can't have any bearing is selling us short. A movement like this can start small, and blossom into something impressive. I, for one do not want to pay hundreds extra each year, aside from paying thousands a year. They should learn how to live within their means. Show us the dividends of your efforts in saving the district money. The only savings they have reaped is on the backs of the workers on the lower end of the scale. Certainly not in the administration. Heaven forbid they should have to take major cuts.

sjr, I see where you are coming from, but just uttering "cliche`" and "sound bites" doesn't move the discussion ahead.

You say "aside from paying thousands a year". I seriously doubt you pay "thousands" to LPS every year. My total school taxes last year were less than $900. (My sev is around 90k). You might pay over 1000, but I doubt it is thousands.

You say "They should learn to live within their means". So, you never think that there should ever be any special tax for a new facility? It is fair if you think that. I think it is short sighted, but some people think that no new or improved facilities are needed.

I don't trust Randy any more than Reformer does, but I do have a mortgage on my house. Why? Because I didn't want to wait until I had $300k to get a house. The same holds true for LPS. If you want them to save up until they have the money to get the improvements, it will never happen. That is not how anyone operates. (to clarify, I am referring to school districts)

I think we could show you a ton of savings, and efficiencies, and you would still be against anything that Randy and Lisa support. You don't trust them, never will, and won't give LPS anything as long as they are around. Unfortunatly, they have given all of us plenty of reason not to trust them. They didn't think that they would make people like you so mad that you would never support them, regardless of the need. They gambled and lost.

I think most people who know anything about the last 5 years of LPS are in agreement with you.

Fool me once.......

Yes, indeedeeee...Road Millage counldn't wait until November! Do you see a pattern here? Cannot wait to see when the School Bond gets approved for the ballot, and which ballot it will be on?!@**//. Anyone giving good odds? How political, I might add that our subdivision has been recieving mail this week on the engineering Dept. concerning the sidewalk replacement program progress, on trees, on the right of way, that have distorted sidewalk slabs. How timely. I guess it beats paying to replace them myself, when I had nothing to do with it (responsibility) in the first place.

About LPS... just because we got 2 board members who seem to show some concern and reasonableness on public input and accountability...DO NOT BE FOOLED! Slick, I mean Randy, still controls the action, and if you think he's going to leave this lovely little kingdom he has come to rule and take advantage of, without a clear vision of the future, or even a decent grasp of the reality of the present, His Highness will continue on with his program which includes, hiding some of the drug and violence going on in and near school ground, fights never reported or showing up in the blotter in the Observer, and REALLY?.... Have we never found drugs in all the school raids the police have at the schools. How did Austin White and his brother suddenly come to be criminals, or close to it...the products representing LPS in the Athletic Depts. of some colleges are not pleased, and this is not something that has developed overnight. Not the first, nor the last. Transparency??? HA...LOL

Why aren't athletes tested??? They barely check their grades...up until this year, they did not even have to check them until the seasons were almost or over already...make a lot of sense, doesn't it?

Like Sheen... likes to remind mindless folks....it is about winning (nothing else there!).

NO NO NO... There is too much going on that needs to change, and we need to look past the smoke and mirros and recruit and retain those who have the community in mind and not their own selfish agendas of power and imagined fame.

I believe I said we pay collectively like $140 million a year to the schools. I also said they should do work on one school at a time. That way the money spent could be closely watched.

When I see custodians and bus drivers giving up all kinds of pay and benefits, and then see people like this superintendent and business manager getting fat raises, you bet they will never convince me. Once these hucksters and con artists go, then we can get serious about things. Until then, I will oppose any type of bond that takes more out of my pocket. They have demonstrated they can not be trusted, and to give them even more money is stupidity in my opinion. Now, if that sounds like a cliche, well if the cliche fits LPS, then they have to wear it.
