One injured in carnival ride mishap in Livonia

The Detroit News

Livonia— One person was injured Tuesday night during the Livonia Spree when part of a carnival ride broke and fell.

It wasn't clear how the piece became loose about 8 p.m. in Henry Ford Field on Farmington Road, where the event is held.

A woman was struck and taken to a hospital for an evaluation, police said. She was not believed to be seriously hurt.

No other injuries were reported.

The Spree, which celebrates the anniversary of the city's founding and runs through Sunday, was expected to continue as planned.

I've often worried about the safety of rides at these sorts of events.

Does anyone else know of safety concerns regarding rides at these temporary carnivals?
