The schools exist to educate, not employ.

Link Experience pays double for RU assistant May 29, 2011 Written by Pat Murphy Lynda Scheel leads a double life. By day she is the highly efficient executive assistant to the superintendent of Redford Union Schools. In some of her off-hours, however, Scheel is president of Livonia Board of Education. With six other trustees, Scheel helps set policy for that district which includes two preschools, 13 elementary schools, three middle schools and five high schools. “I knew she was on the Livonia school board when she interviewed for the job,” RU Supt. Ronald Stoneman said. “But it didn't matter. Since then her background has really been an asset. She knows school issues.” RU Trustee Terri Graham said Scheel's background is helpful in many ways. “When we were drafting a policy (for RU) on naming school buildings,” Graham said, “Lynda knew that Livonia already had a policy, and she provided some very helpful information for drafting ours.” Colleen Burton, vice president of the Livonia board, had a similar view. In large part because of her job in Redford, Burton said, Scheel is more up to date on issues like the state Legislature's efforts on school funding. “She's very knowledgeable,” Burton said, “and that's very helpful.” Livonia Supt. Randy Liepa agrees Scheel's background is beneficial to both school boards. “But every school board member brings something to the table,” he said. Livonia has one board member who is a lawyer, he noted, and another with a background in health insurance. Another board member is a principal of a school in Macomb County, he continued, while another teaches in Allen Park. “I'm very much aware that these are two different positions,” Scheel said. “However, I believe that holding both positions does give me some valuable insight.” If a conflict between the two positions arises, there's flexibility on both sides. On Monday, for example, the RU board scheduled a special session while Livonia's had a committee meeting. With her boss' approval, Scheel went to the committee meeting. Scheel is a 1977 graduate of Livonia Stevenson High School. She and husband Doug now live in the house in which she grew up. She's been on the Livonia board for eight years and president for four. She's also a commissioner on the Livonia Planning Commission. Her husband is a financial consultant in the private sector, and they have three children who each graduated from Livonia schools and Michigan State University. Scheel didn't graduate from college. She was an executive at a branch of Flagstaff Bank until three years ago, when she was hired for an employee benefits job at RU. |

Really? You're going to pick on where she works? There are plenty of other board members who work for other school districts as well. |

The only thing that LPS Reformer did was post the article from the Redford Observer and if you note, without comment, so who is picking on who? |

FOIA that initial application/resume and see who were references. That ought to be interesting. Five high schools in LPS? Are there 5 separate graduations? And just think how many connections these same board members have to school district employees. No wonder they don't want to cut benefits and wages. The board members are also connected to their respective unions which are the same unions in Livonia. No wonder the unions endorse who they do! |

To my this article was one big campaign advertisement. Look at how great Lynda is working all day and many nights "for the kids," She's much more valuable to RU than to Livonia. |

Don't forget Sheels' daughter, who left another disctrict to come here. We have to have more nepostism here in Livonia, there just isn't enough of it for my perverted tastes |
