Burglar steals safe, cash from Bates Hamburgers in Livonia 2:28 PM, Jun. 1, 2011 | Comments A masked man stole a safe containing cash and start-up money from the cash drawer from Bates Hamburgers at Five Mile and Farmington roads very early Sunday morning, Livonia Police Lt. Tom Goralski said. It was the first time the restaurant had been broken into since it opened in 1959, he said. The break-in was discovered by an officer on patrol, who noticed the glass on the carry-out door on the north side of the building had been smashed and pushed in. The cash register drawer had been pried open. A review of the restaurant security camera showed the suspect, who was wearing a dark cloth covering his face, jumping over the counter from the carry-out area to the kitchen, then going downstairs to the basement where he used a dolly to get the safe upstairs. He tried to pry open the safe but was unable to. He made several cell phone calls and appeared to be waiting for someone. He then left the building at 12:08 a.m. with the safe and two milk cartons. The suspect was described as 5-foot-8, with a medium to stocky build, wearing faded jeans, light-colored work boots and a blue hooded sweatshirt with a quilted black jacket over it. He was wearing gloves and holding an instrument, possibly a crowbar. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Detective Bureau at (734) 466-2314. “I’d love to hear of any tips,” Goralski said. “I have a good feeling somebody’s going to know something.” By Karen Smith http://www.hometownlife.com/article/20110601/NEWS10/110601016/Burglar-steals-safe-cash-from-Bates-Hamburgers-in-Livonia?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Livonia|p |

Hope they find the guy. Not cool to steal from an icon. Got guts breaking into a place with all those windows so close to the the police station. |
