Did he say employees currently pay 5% toward their health care and that 20% would only save $3 million?

Well, if a 15% cut saves 3,000,000. Then we must be spending $20,000,000 now.

Does that sound right?

No, he said they are only paying 5% now. Initially, the Gov said he ultimately wanted districts to be at the 80/20 ratio. However, he then layed out 5 criteria he wants districts to meet right now, one of which was the 90/10 ratio. Liepa was saying the 3 million would be saved if they meet that 90/10 figure.

As a side note though, I wish they would have questioned him about other cost saving measures, like privatization, shared administrative services, and retirement package concessions.

I didn't think that the employees were paying anything to their health care. Did this change with their last contract? I just remember Lynda making it a big deal when Randy agreed to pay $1000.00 annually towards his health care and how it made precedence for the other employees. Can anyone clarify this?

I feel like they were intentionally talking in circles to confuse the public. According to Randy, all the polls say voters want to pay more taxes to fund education.

If an additional 5% saves 3 million (assuming they are already contributing 5%), than 10% percent more would solve all their money issues. It's that simple.

If they're still short, they can cut Mr. Liepa's pay.

Programs would be saved. No tax increase needed.

It really is that simple, but I don't think they want the average citizen to know that. If they did, how much support would they get for additional funds? I think they really want people to believe that Liepa's salary bump, employee HC contributions, etc will just not be enough. If they scream it loud enough without any significant opposition(i.e., massively financed opposition), the public will believe them. Just like the recall election, remember???
