I'm surprised we have any parapros left with Randy's last round of cuts. After all, someone had to sacrifice for that 50k Raise. And of course, while he was cutting parapros, he gave a 2 year contract to the teachers. |

$200 per month during the time I am paid. September through June. I assume under the governors plan plan it will go up very slightly more than the $216 quoted by F11 to cover my share for the months of July and August. I would like to know as soon as possible so our family can plan our budget and figure out if we have other options. LPS Reformer - I live in Livonia, but I don't work in Livonia. I am aware LPS has cut the Kindergarten and Technology Para pros completely, but I am not aware of any major cuts to Special Education para pros. F11 - I apologize for the insulting comment, it was uncalled for. Felt very attacked by your comments and I over-reacted. I am not complaining, if you read carefully you would have noticed that. It is very frustrating to be told you no longer have any control over what your value as an employee is. |

I am part time, and contribute well over $1200 a month for health insurance through our Section 125 plan. Let's remove the sticks and talk like civil humans, guys. Everybody has an opinion, and whether you agree or not, they are entitled to it! |

So what? Who cares?
|
Based on the info you provided, your premium would increase by $60 per month/$600 per year. In other words, you would pay $260 per month/10 months instead of $200 per month/10 months. This amounts to $15 more per week. Hope this helps! |

Broke ~ You ARE and should continued to be valued as an employee by the students and especially by the parents of the students you are kind, patient and caring to. The frustration on this thread is around people who feel they are entitled to continue to get the great pay and benefits in a market that can't support it without laying off others. I'm NOT saying you are one of them or that you get great pay...You deserve to be paid more. You and I make about the same, only I work 12 months a year (last year without a vacation) and I do not get benefits. My family pays over $500 a month for very limited coverage. In the past two years my husband has taken a 30% pay cut and a 25% pay cut, while our health insurance has gone up 10% three times. I feel your pain!! I deserved to be paid more, too. Unfortunately, there are people in your profession who are making a very good salary and not paying much at all for insurance. Some also don't think that even though the state is suffering financially they should not have to change. You should see the letter to the editor of the Observer last week! ugh. Then again, here in Livonia it is not just teachers who think that way - our own superintendent connived LPS out of $50,000 without thinking of the impact it would have on the system or relations with teachers... Anyway, good luck. |

In the end, it comes dow to the fact we don't have the money. The MEA's answer is Raise Taxes. Thus those of us in the private sector get hit twice. Once from the down turn in the economy, then once again with increased taxes to make sure The MEA does not have to face those same economic realities. And yes, that is union greed. Perhapes not on an individual basis, but it sure is coming from the union bosses. |
