Guest commentary: Increased competition is hardly the key to better schools

"Our experience in Michigan shows that further increasing competition will not produce better schools for our children."

"Schools of choice" policies have led school districts to divert money away from the classroom into glossy advertising campaigns and do not help improve struggling districts."

"Funding cuts proposed by the Snyder and the Legislature -- along with proposed concessions on salary and benefits -- will hurt, not help.

"Public schools are not private firms driven by the profit motive."

BUT.....

"There is one business approach that is absolutely essential to our public schools: investment [more taxes]. Business owners know they must invest and reinvest to grow and compete."

And I've been seeing signs on lawns and on cars that say ''stop privatization of public schools''.
How SAD!!!!
Are they afraid of the competition and the accountability?
I know that I'm quite tired of kowtowing the school teachers and their UNION thug bosses with my very hard earned tax money only to have out kids come out of school pretty undereducated and the teachers not being held unaccountable. I think most of us in the ''private sector'' (that's becoming a dirty word anymore?) are always being held accountable for our work and the results. But I guess teachers are just so special. Yeah! :X
I support Global Warming cuz nothing grows in ice!
